Sparrows Experiment

thanks everyone! It ended up a pretty good day.
Today I did a 4 mile tempo run under my marathon pace. It was a half mile warm up at 8:25 pace and then 3 miles at 8:00 pace and then another half mile at 8:25. It felt great. Even greater when I was getting off the thing at 4 miles. Thats so short. Had a big piece of birthday cake with custard in it. I HAD to :)... you know....carbing up and all. lol

Taper week. FINALLY.
I'm starting the week a bit beat up. After my long run and then that fast tempo run I pulled something :( Its like in my butt/hip area but it goes down the side of my hamstring to my knee. Its not enough to make me STOP but its noticeable to make me slow down quite a bit. Good thing its a taper week. I did a 4 mile easy (10 min miles) jog..it was more like a very fast walk. lol. 6.0 is hard to jog to. its almost harder to go slow than fast. I was a little discouraged because of how tired I am today and then that pain so I'm just trying to take it easy and be wise. I'm increasing carbs this week and being smart with water and vitamins. I hope this all comes together in a week.

Well I've been kinda discouraged at the way my week is going but I'm trying to remain more positive than "poopy" as my son calls a bad attitude (any reason to say the word right? haha). Yesterday my leg was really painful and I coudln't walk right. I had to modify chores and really try to keep off of it. Last night I stretched for a good half hour, which I never do. I guess I've relied on the fountain of youth to keep me limber and flexible but reality is, we all need to stretch before and after workouts! I just don't. so dumb. so I did that and it felt FABULOUS. I'm going to do that all week. this morning the leg felt better. Still had to baby it quite a bit. I went and got the bengay patches that radiate heat into the muscle when you stick them on (WONDERFUL) and some aleve. I think with all the elements it will be OK by race day> i just don't think I'll be able to run on it before that. thats the hard part, so I'm not sure how that will affect me. I plan to swim tomorrow. I still need to do SOMEthing. So those of you who pray, PRAY for me! and those of you who practice "wishful thinking"...wishfully think happy things for that day for me. lol. I need all the help I can get.

Sparrow, I am a little behind in reading, but happy belated birthday! I am so impressed that you are attempting a marathon, I am ure you will do well! Hang in there and look for the the glasses that are "half full". Perspective is everything and in marathons you need to think positive thoughts! Will say a prayer you beat your time !

3 1/2 days to go! OMG!

Well this might be TMI but I got an awesome massage last night for my pulled butt muscle. lol. I found out what muscle it is. Its the piriformis muscle. Anyone know that one? lol. I guess it can mess with the sciatic nerve but so far I don't think thats happening. I'd probably know it :)
SO along with the massage I've been taking the anti inflamatory stuff and putting the patches on and stretching. Today I went to the gym to swim. POOL WAS CLOSED! nooooo! that never happens. I felt like I was being punished for something! lol. I ended up doing 45 min on the eliptical and some core exercises with the stability ball and you know, I had NO pain the entire time. In fact my leg feels somewhat better after doing all that! So I hope its on the up and up. I'm still not going to run till race day. If I bum it out on race day who cares. I can keep running on it, adrenaline and endorphins (my daughter calls them "dolphins" :) ) will cover my pain. I just can't afford to take any steps backwards and be really hurting BEFORE I start the race. This week I've been downing this jug with 70 oz of water each day, and eating pretty clean (cept for a 'treat' at night). I've also been getting 8-9 hours of sleep each night this week. I'm dong all I can!

Glad the butt massage felt good. Wish I could get one of those.

LOL yer so funny She. HEY today is your birthday right????? HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

...hey its a good day to ask for a butt massage. LOL

I'd take ANY kind of massage! LOL But a BUTT massage....hmmm...only by a nice looking man. LMAO

Good luck with the race, hon! Take care of yourself! I started running again last week. So far so good. I hope to run in the morning. :)

AHH well I got that hurdle jumped 9 years ago :p ahh yeah baby:cool:
Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I know it'll be fine. I need to stop being so paranoid and just trust.

Swam 2000 easy yards today which was very refreshing. Ate more junk today than normal. Leg hurt upon waking up but is doing well at this point in my day. I'm just going to have to hit the stretching hard and EARLY race day. Tomorrow is my LAST day of activity for this training period! What an awesome ride it has been! I may attempt 1-2 miles. I'm still very nervous about it though. I just need to FEEL my running legs before the race. 2 1/4 days to go...and counting :D

Got another great massage last night. Too bad it has to take an injury to get one. lol
Leg felt much better this morning. I had to take something to sleep last night. Too much anxiety. This morning I did half a mile walk then 1 mile run at my goal pace and half mile cool down. It was lame and I was actualy sweating quite a bit with my heartrate getting up to 145 but dropping to 98 within 2 minutes. The one mile didn't feel EASY like I hoped it would but I'm trying not to read too much into things. Its not worth it. My body feels heavy and blobby but I think thats the gallon of water a day I've been downing all week paired with increased carbs. Today I go get my "goody" bag at Fleet Feet. Exciting :) I am officially done training.

Aye a good massage is a wonderful thing - work subsidizes chair massages where you can get a great upper body/back massage in 15-30 minutes. I've added it as a weekly treat for all the exercising.

Best wishes for you in your race tomorrow. Take care of yourself and do your best. Let us know how things turn out.
