Sophies diary

yes i must resist the urge to splurge.
salad all the wayyyyyy :D
i will think of all yous guys when i get to the cake section - in fact i wont even go to the cake section
i will just watch other people eat it and imagine all the fat dripping onto their hips
:]

The best thing about buffets is that you can actually have only a spoonful of something you really want to taste. In restaurants it's so stupid to order a dessert and eat 1/20 of it, that you just have to skip the whole dessert. But in buffet you can JUST TASTE!! So if you really really want something out of the cake section, choose ONE and find yourself a tea spoon. That's what I'd call Eat your cake and have it too! :D
Juliette

PS. I find that I often eat less when there are interesting people around me and good conversation going on. I don't want to leave the table to go get seconds...

I love buffets! I get to taste a bit of this and that from the main entrees, then I go make myself a big ugly salad with carrot sticks, broccoli, cucumber slices, LOTS of green peas, and cottage cheese (usually there's no lettuce, just spinach and veggies) and I munch on it as finger food until I am full. I do the small bits of dessert, too; they always have such tiny pieces anyhow, it's easy to just clip a bite or two from a couple of different kinds and call it a serving. :D
Don't get me wrong, I still load up my plate with roast beef or baked chicken or fish, I love the protein foods, but I try to get healthy pieces instead of fried or covered in gravy.
Oh, and I can have a spoonfull of mashed taters or some rice pilaf without having a huge serving! Always nice...

there was no salad :(
so then i had two brown bread sandwiches.
and that was it. and i drank two bottles of water.
my calories are pretty high though for today because i had eggs for breakfast and i have eatn a lot of butter.
also feeling a bif down because mum is cooking a load of absolute rubbish for tea and i know that she will guilt me into eating it and it will take my calories up to about 50 gazillion and then make my day a lot worse. parents
grrrrrrrrrrr

ran off 650 calories on the treadmill tonight.
persuaded mum to make me just cauliflower instead of the acuilflour cheese (absolutely dripping in fat - butter - milk - cheese etal) also makes me feel pretty queezy due to dairy intolerance lolzz
so ive got out of that sticky situation. apart from she says i still have to have some chips (i think you call them fries in us im not sure) :| but hey. i will have fruit for breakfast.
calories consumed today (have already put in my dinner totals into fitday - this helps me stick to portion sizes!)
1756 IN
2915 OUT
so im happy with that i guess
apart from i had to eat cacky processed bread at the buffet today
but i did really well on the will power front of things
i resisted all the little volauvents and pizza and quiche and sausage rolls and then i thought phew its over when theyd all gone. BUT THEN THEY BROUGHT OUT THE CREAM CAKES.and my tummy was like yumyumyum but i practically pinned my self to my chair and didnt eat any - i drank a bottle of water instead. i felt ever so proud.
hope everybody has had a successful day!!!!

can anybody name me a drink that tastes amazing and is very low cal
and isnt water
or anything to do with milk/soya - bleugh
thankyou :)
just when im craving sweet stuff id like to have something to drink that puts a taste in my mouth but doesnt fill me with about 72zillion calories

Don't ever let anyone "guilt" you into eating more or what you don't want to eat.

You're in charge of what you put in your body - it can be done politely (or not) ;) but you have final say!

"Mom, I appreciate this Cheesy Cauliflower you made, however, I'll pass today thanks."

And be done.

It's OK to say no ;)

Great job on resisting the urge for the cream cakes. I'm not sure I would have been able to resist them.

I am lucky, I almost never go to buffets, because I don't eat nearly enough when I go to them. Most of the time, I don't even get a full plate of food.. maybe the places I have been just have terrible buffets. Plus I have this aversion to buffets, but I digress.

I know you said a drink that ISN'T water, but what about flavored water? Or a fitness water? I really enjoy drinking water, but get tired of the humdrum of the plain stuff and absolutely love a new item Target has out in the Supercenter here in VA. It's a fitness packet that you empty into a 16.9 oz or .5L bottle of water and shake it up and it's REALLY good!

There is a version of Light Grape Juice that's about 60 cals and gives you some great antioxidants.

There is a Lipton Diet Green Tea that's quite good. .. which reminds me, I haven't had in a while. ... Um, other teas??

I'm not sure what options are available to you...

P.S. Great Job on your weight loss thus far!

Well, this is the one time you're allowed to out distance your mom in the stubborn department.

"Mom, I know you love me, you don't have to show it with food."
"Mom, I know you went to a lot of trouble fixing that for tonight's dinner, but I am really making an effort to eat healthier - perhaps we could find some alternative ways of fixing it."

Or, just.
No.
;)

Hi Sophie :)
Sounds like you did great on the buffet today. Brown bread is better for you than white and you sound like you deserve an award for restraining yourself over the cream cakes! A couple of eggs for breakfast isn't bad - the yolks have cholesterol so you shouldn't eat too many but your body needs some cholesterol! You can always separate the whites and eat those, they are good for protein. Oh and fries are what Americans call chips, when they say chips they mean crisps :)
Wow - sounds like you had a great workout! 650 calories is great. I hope I can burn that many when I go for my workout later!
Rachie

thankyou :]
i might try the low cal green tea thing - i have never tried that stuff before and green tea is supposed to do wonders for boosting the metabolism!
ohh yeah i totally forgot about flavoured water
i was an avid squash drinker for a while but recently discovered how many extra calories per day i was consuming just from drinking alone
so now i try to stick to watermostly
haha im totally the oppostie - jeees buffets are so good. i wouldnt mind if you could only have one helping but its the fact that you can go back as many times as you want. absolute nightmare. same with all you can eats too.
i strictly try and avoid both - just todays was unavoidable

Wow, it sounds like you were really between a rock and a hard place today and came through it all with flying colors! I know what you mean about the perfectly good veggies, covered in cheese, and the guilt from mom. Every once in awhile, I have to be really mean to my mom to get her to back off about the unhealthy foods. She brings freaking CANDY over to my house, sometimes! She has gotten a lot better about it in the past several months, but it still gets extremely frustrating, from time to time.

Just continue doing what you are doing, and don't let other people mess you up. Perhaps if you are going to get stuck at a meal you don't want to eat, you could find a way to grab a healthy snack on your way over, or even eat a good-for-you meal before you get to the bad-for-you meal, and then you can just have a little bit of this and that.
It feels wasteful when I do it, but it's better than NOT doing it.

Edit: a tasty drink that is not water? I like Peppermint, Lemon Blossom, Chai, or Licorice spice teas. I'm trying out some apple spice tea, as well. They are cheap, especially compared to soda, have no calories, taste very sweet, and are good iced or hot. The expensive ones are about $3.50 for a box of 20 teabags or 17.5 cents a serving. You can't beat that deal, and most of them are a LOT less.

Yeah i totally agree. people can get soo obsessed about it though - as if they know that they should also be watching what they eat - they kind of get defensive. like today when i took brown bread sandwiches and most of the garnish off the trays (lol was the only sald i could find) this lady was like ooh are you on a diet and i said well kind of but not really im just watching what i eat. and then she got all huffy puffy about it. and then everybody kind of ganged up against me trying to get me to eat a piece of cake. it was pretty awful
and mothers with food aswell ohgosh. at least you dont live with yours. i usually supervise her shopping trips now. we were at tescos the o ther day and we were doing so well and had all totally healthy stuff in the trolley and then i went to go get some nuts from the front of the store and left her for about two minutes and i came back and there were bags of crisps, cake bars, pastries and wine all in the trolley :|

Oh and fries are what Americans call chips, when they say chips they mean crisps :)

Maybe some Americans, but I would think that the majority call them Fries.. Hmm.. wonder if there has ever been a study on this?!

At any rate, I love fries and have never been a chip fan (potato chips). I don't like fresh potatoes hunks that are fried and called fries either. I guess I'm weird.
I love raw potatoes though. Nevermind.. I'm rambling. :D

mehh im not a big fan of alcohol unless its sugarry sweet and doesnt taste like alcohol at all. except i do like some sweet white wines.
its just for her benefit too - i worry about what she eats sometimes because she eats quite a bit of rubbish most of the time and doesnt do much exercise.
i really dont want to see her slide :[

Oops - backwards! Mean that us Brits call them chips and Americans tend to say fries.... then we have crisps which you call (potato) chips - is that the right way round?! bleh - too much coffee sends brain backwards!! :) I probably messed up again
