Skyler's new diary

Girl, c'mon, you NEVER EVER EVER step on scales in the afternoon. That's the heaviest weight thoughout the day, and its all just water, part of normal fluctuation. Just please don't pay attention to it, the number on the scale is not a big deal. You had an AWESOME day, based on your description, you achieved your goals in terms of doing everything you can - walk at lunch, pilates class, you ate well, you drank your water - there is nothing else you can do except for doing it several days and then weeks and then months, and your weight will adjust! Remember, no comparing yourself to a month before. You're starting from the beginning as well as your new married life!

Just concentrate on your healthy lifestyle, because you are doing a lot, and be proud of it! Just be patient, and you're not allowed to see the evel scale until next week! LOL! :)

Hi Skyler,

Hope you feel better tomorrow. I agree w/NTL. Lay off the scales for awhile. Maybe even a month or somehting. Concentrate on each day and doing the best you can and you will be surprised. Everyone has ebs and flows with their weight, especially women. Be patient.

Hey skyler to answer the question you posted on my diary I'm not too sure what I was taking in before but I imagine it wasn't consistent. Sorry to hear about your frustrations with the scale. I always find that from day to day there's not much difference but give it a couple of weeks and you'll see the pounds dropping off.;)

i know, i know, i know, NTL - i really need a smack!! i dont know what i was thinking....i may really lay off the scale (if i can) for a couple weeks...have days like yesterday and see what happens. Also seriously consideirng buying a body fat tester.....a caliper...wonder if they are expensive, i heard not too much. but, i am gaining muscle and that scale is surely my worst enemy! and you are right, new beginning, just like the marriage...so, new results, slow results as always, new starting point. Thanks julia, you lifted my spirits, once again!

Hi, glad I could help. I think the calipers is a good idea. I think they have them at GNC for like $15 or smth. I kept thinking of buying those myself, because it is really the most accurate measure of progress.

Skyler. You have done so well on losing 21lbs so far. do yourself a favor. Go to the supermarket and get 4 -5lb cans of Tenderflake Lard. Lift up those cans all together and compare the weight of those cans to the weight that you have lost. That weight loss is so much a milestone. You have done a totally incredible job. I agree with everyone else to stay off the scales for a while. I have to literally hide mine and refrain from looking for it until Friday's. I don't need that scale. When I put on my jeans in the morning and find that the are fitting slightly different, now that matters. That makes me feel so good inside. Like I have really accomplished my goal for the day. Promise yourself that there are no more negative thoughts to hinder your goals. You are so worth it Skyler. :D

skyler, NEVER EVER weigh in the afternoon. Are you trying to give yourself a heartache. Repeat after me, morning, naked, pee first!!!!

Do you realize you've lost 60% of your goal? That is outstanding and you deserve a pat on the back!!!

oh wow. so much support!! thank you!!!!!!!!!!! What a great way to start the week.

HH- no worries on the challenge - just bad timing for me I guess...

Pineola - yes, you are right and not the first one to say so - to stay off the scales for a month or so...harder to do than say but i am seriously considering it, at least maybe a couple weeks rather than weekly....i dont want that thing to get me discouraged!! thanks so much for coming by my diary!!!!

NTL - I bought a caliper. Well, ordered one. Hasn't shown up yet but I am excited to monitor that way vs. the scale b/c I HATE that stupid thing ;).

Crunchie - thanks for coming by and answering the question...I appreciate it!

Jodee - THANK YOU. I know, I know, I know, no more negative thoughts....and funny (well, in a weird way) but i have told so many people the same thing (regarding finding something that is the weight they have lost), guess I should listen to my own advice sometimes...lol..thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Scarlett - i will never ever weigh in the afternoon/evenign again. i dont know what crossed my mind. absolutely crazy!! and no, when you put it that way of losing 60%, that is pretty cool. THANKS!!!!!!!!

I guess overall, I have lost sight of my accomplishments and I do this in EVERYTHING in my life...I dont take a minute to step back and see how far I've come but what is left to do.....AND, this is a lesson that I need to learn and master b/c I know that it is healthy to "pat yourself on the back". I think what happened was i lost a great deal and changed my clothes size to back where i was (YEAH!!) and so I wasnt feeling the every day, "wow,my pants dont fit feeling" anymore b/c I went out and bought clothes in the smaller size....BUT, I should be saying "yeah, these clothes fit and REMEMBER that I was able to drop a size already"....the brain is truly a powerful thing.

Onto this past weekend...not too bad - weekends are hard for me but I went grocery shopping and bot tons of fresh fruits and veggies for the week, healhty proteins and am ready for a SUPERB week!! Friday night I went out with friends, probably drank a few too many drinks but danced my butt off for about 2 hours, sweating up a storm so that is good. Saturday was day off instead of friday but walked the dogs some and hung with my husband (who NEVER has saturdays off - he is a chef) and consumed a few too many calories (1700) but that is okay b/c they were healthy calories and probably good to do that every so often. Sunday was great - had just under 1500 calories, ran 4.5 miles in 85 degree heat - my dogs weren't as happy as me - but we stopped frequently to wet them off!! - did some weight training, cleaned the house and drank about 96 oz of water. whoo.

anybody know how long - again, probably different for everyone - that it takes for the water to "flush" out the system? for example, when i had SO much yesterday, i can FEEL water logged this morning and just keep drinking it and it will help me lose more, right???

thanks again for all the support and checking in...gonna hit some of yalls diaries...and then get some work done! :)

Skyler, sounds like you had an awesome weekend. That's great. As far as water retention goes - I think it normally takes couple of days for water to go down, but you're right, it depends on the body. I think you should monitor yourself and feel when you're retaining water, that bloated feeling, and see how long before you let go of it through drinking more water. So watch yourself a couple of times, take a note, and that's about the time you'll expect next cycle.

Good for you Skyler. It's great that you had a good weekend. Keep you chin up girl. :D You can and will meet your goal. Have a great day Sky.;)

Skyler, Youre doing awesome! You have already lost 21 lbs! thats a lot! Sounds like youre prepped with groceries for the week too. I ran into that problem this weekend, and ended up eating a fudgesickle and other junk food since I didnt have any healthy food around. You exercised a lot too it sounds like. Thats great that you have pets to walk, it doesnt even seem like exercise when you do fun things like that. Keep your motivation going, you have gone way too far to give up now.

Hey Skyler sounds like you had a great time at the dancing at the weekend and your shopping will help you out this week!

I've never been able to disco dance, I just tend to stand and wobble!

Skyler sounds like you had a great weekend so lets make this an even better week!!! Well done with the loss so far, keep up the great work!! Hope you are having a great day!!

mal - thanks!! and thanks for stopping by! having healthy groceries ready definitely helps with the eatlng part of this whole weight loss thing!

jodee- thanks for the kind words. chin is up! just need to get some lbs down!!

ella- hello!! thanks for checking in....the weekend was awesome in terms of exercise and yes, it defintiely helps to "have to" walk the dogs to get in those little spurts of movement...as we know, every little bit counts!

crunchie- i wouldnt say i m a good dancer, but i enjoy it so i just go for it!! whatever anybody else thinks- i just dont care!! lol.

ntl- thanks for being so consistent on checking in on me!! i bought (ordered) a caliper to test my bf% - not sure if i told you that. i think that will be interesting and a good way to judge as you said b/c of building muscle and endurance, the scale cant read that!

yesterday wasnt the greatest...i was fine during the day....kashi golean crunch, skim milk, raspberries (yum!), turkey wrap, cottage cheese & plum for snack...but then...ta da....

we went to a ball game and it fell apart....i got zero exercise so yesterday was my day off for the week - friday is now ON -- drank too many beers so I am OFF alcohol for a little while til my body gets back to "normal". I feel bloated and gross....b/c along with the beer, i had salty peanuts. How can you not at a ballgame!?!?! :( oops. So, that was my indulgence day, cheat day, whatever you call it, but i am back ON today and ready to fight this good fight and lose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lose inches, pounds, BF%......any and all of the above! tonight is tough b/c i have class but I am going to have to fit in exercise somehow. i did just go for a 40 minute walk for lunch but i would like to try and get some more cardio in and sweat out the salt/beer if possible...hope so!! also, tryign to drink lots of water as i even feel dehydrated..

whoops.

No worries about last night, skyler. We all do it. But you're doing the right thing today by drinking loads of water. Doing fine, chickie!!!! Hope you are having a great day so far.

Hey Skyler. How is your day going??? Well it is night now. LOL. Anyways, I was just checking up on you to see how you are doing. Have a great night and I will stop by again tomorrow sometime. Take care of yourself.

thanks Jodee. yesterday was pretty good. my calories came in kind of low at 1210 but that is actually okay b/c the day before i was a couple hundred too high so i figure the average, puts me right where i need to be! i ended up walking a lot yesterday and then had class so i couldnt do any other exercising....tonight, i am free after work so i have an evening planned of exercising - cardio & weights, dog walking, and some major house cleaning...thinking i'll burn some calories that way!

I read somewhere that some people hold onto the fat even if they are being "perfect" with their plan and then all the sudden the body is finally like "OK!" and you drop a few.....shoot, i really really really hope that happens to me. I'd like to see some progress. None seen (on the scale) since I've been back from my honeymoon. I havent been PERFECT but i have been mostly good....so, hopefully one of these days, i'll get rewarded with some more success and a loss.

not sure if i am plateau-ed (again) or if my body is ultimately confused. I know you have to eat more to lose more if you exercise a lot (which is me) and it is harder to come off when you have less to lose but there is plenty to lose - love handles, etc - so i dont know why my body would be at a plateau. i have been cycling my calories - not on purpose - but i looked back at my food journal and it ranges from 1200 to 1700 some days so it cant think "starvation mode" (which happened when i only at 1200-1300 caloreis). I dont know. i also know that it takes MORE to lose and our bodies readjust as you do so, so maybe it is trying to figure out a new set point & is confused on what i am doing? I dont know...but i hope my metabolism and whatever else figures it out soon........it can get really frustrating! But, am keeping a positive attitude & hoping, one of these days i see some actual success....i've also been SUPER bloated lately....anybody have a good cure for that??????????????
