Skyler's new diary

158? Hell yeah! You went so far, and you will go even further! Be proud of your success and of keeping it!

Latte- ummm... Even though latte is not a breakfast, calorie -wise it is almost like one, so you can count as having breakfast... LOL...

I'm actually very proud of myself - I have not succumbed to starbucks yet, even though I had many desires for it... But, I know it will happen sooner or later... I'm just waiting for the really bad craving to strike, that I absolutely cannot refuse - want to make sure I get the most satisfaction for the calories it packs... Weird thinking, I know.

sorry for rambling... Have a good Friday, and I hope you really enjoyed the Latte! :)

Not really weird thinking b/c I felt the same way. We have a starbucks in our building so it is hard to pass up, but I needed that pick me up this morning and i dont regret it at all!

Lunch is a yummy salad with tofu and lots of green veggies..

And you are right, even though coffee drink is not breakfast, it sure has calories to fill in some!!

At least you went for a non-fat latte.. ahh.. but the cinnamon dolce latte was great.. too bad our Starbucks near my office had the most incompetent workers this morning! :) I swear they were all new!!!

I Am So Glad You Are Doing So Good! I Know You Can Reach Your Goal Soon!

Hi, Skyler,

How are things going so far? Are you taking off like NL this weekend or staying on track with diet/exercise?

Hope you're having a good one! I lost bunch of water weight over the weekend (2 lbs), but I'm sure it'll all come back, so I'm not celebrating yet. :)

hey! my internet connection was down all weekend so I havent had a chance to post in here. Friday/Saturday turned into my cheat days (1400 calories each, some comprised of empty liquor calories  ). yesterday, back on track and came in at about 1100 calories. I had pilates on Saturday which was really awesome and took Friday off as my rest day as usual.

However, Saturday night, i re-sprained my ankle. (i have super weak ankles due to dancing my whole life, etc -they roll often, blah blah blah). It was terrible. Sunday I could barely walk (same ankle i sprained before so i re-aggravated it - that time it lasted 6 wks but i think was WAY worse b/c I remember not beign able to put any pressure at all on it! So, I'm bummed as I couldn't exercise yesterday but I did spend most of the day, elevating it, off of it and icing regularly so this morning it feels a little better. Luckily, I was smart enough to keep my aircast but it just stinks. Now I'm out of cardio for who knows how long? Hopefully it just lasts a few days...

Question of the day: I know I am not supposed to go under 1200 calories, and I generally burn 300 calories /day through exercise- if I CAN'T exercise - what do I do???? Eat less or will that screw me up? HELP, please??! I need to lose something with all this effort!!!!!!!

Morning Sarah!! AGH So sorry about the ankle! I used to roll mine ALL the time when I was in elementary school. Twisted it once, that was bad enough!! Hope it improves quickly for ya!!

Regarding the exercise... well, if you're not doing ANY cardio, then I think you can cut back under 1200, but Paula would know more efficiently. Honestly I'm trying to stay under 1200 to make up for my bad weekend eating. And I think if you don't persist for weeks going under 1200 your body won't uqite hit starvation mode.

Another question.. could you ride a bike with your ankle that way? Mentally picturing that I wouldn't imagine you'd put too much stress on your ankle, but I don't really know. I guess anotehr thing is to focus on your weight lifting etc during this time. Upperbody & so on. grr.. it is frustrating when you have your cardo taken away! We're rootin for ya!

Skyler, so sorry to hear about your ankle! I hope it feels better soon!
Keep icing it and elevating as you can. Even putting your leg up on something underneath your desk helps (like trash can or computer). Especially because legs tend to always be down, and its natural for blood to collect there b/c of gravity. I'm routing for your leg to heal! BTW, do you have it wrapped with elastic bandage for stability and support? I find wrapping helps speeding up recovery and prevents further stress/reinjury.

I had a bit of small muscle injury myself over the weekend - had old case of tendonitis flair up in my right forarm, so I'm doing the same - ice and support. :)

As far as calories - if you stay around 1100-1200, you should be ok, especially since you had a few cheat days recently, going a little lower then that would be fine for a few days, but I would not keep it up. Remember, you still have all these muscles you're building and they need protein. If you don't eat enough, your body will break down those muscles that you worked so hard to build, and will deminish benefit of your workout.

Even though you cannot do eliptical, you can still do upper body workout and crunches/situps, right? That means you will still stay active, just change your routine a bit.

Thanks NTL. Yes, I have an aircast from the time I did this to myself a little while back..so, that is helping a lot. I will have to get creative with cardio of some sort as I need to sweat and de-stress, etc...

I'm just trying to figure out a cardio exercise that I can do with one bum-ankle!

Sorry About Your Ankle And I Know It Has To Be Aggrivating! Hope You Can Figure Somthing Out! Keep Up The Good Work! She Is Right Paula May Know Something!

You can skip rope on one leg! :) You can do squats on one leg (those are hard!) You can do kickboxing (only with hands though)... You can do some of the pilates exercises on the mat...

Thanks guys. Yeah, I guess I am going to go home and go through my stack of VHS/DVD's for workouts and see what is in there that isn't high impact or non-ankle friendly. Unfortunately, I think a lot of them are aerobic type but I'm sure I have others as well or could modify carefully, i suppose. I just can't imagine doing NO cardio. Life is stressful. I use it as a de-stressor as well as a hope for a loss on that scale!

any other suggestions as to how to lift my heart rate w/o killing myself with a bum-ankle would be highly appreciated!!!!

I think she doesn't believe me about the upper body punching... I swear it had me SWEATING!! :) No leg movements involved. ;) Ooooh well! ;)

If I think of anything else of course I will post it here girl! Be sure to drink plenty of water. Paula's got me on green tea now.

As for de-stressing, try some meditation for it too. May sound corny, bt I think I'll be taking that up soon myself, I really find when I participated in that during my yoga classes I felt much more relaxed!

Hi Skyler. Sorry to hear about your ankle. I know what you mean about being frustrated because you can't go all out on cardio. I would agree that arm punching is good exercise, we do it in karate and it gets me going.

Also, if you have one of those ab balls, the big ones, you can sit on that and bounce up and down doing jumping jacks without lifting your feet off the ground. It looks funny but its something I had a personal trainer show me and I got a good workout from it. Hope you have a good day and your ankle heals up quick.
