SaturdaySaint! Part 3, This time...it's personal!

They are the loveliest pictures SS - and the video is amazing. How wonderful for your little boy to be able to see that later and know how cherished his first days were.

Monday, August 20, 2007. Cardio X. Phase 2 of p90x

I'm not waking up as early
I've forgotten how off my schedule gets with a new baby

So this morning, I did Cardio X. I didn't get up at 4:30 like I normally have been. Having this baby in the house is changing my schedule drastically. Doing the cardio has gotten mondo tolerable. Not quiet "easy" per se, but it's good none the less. My 4 year old daughter is now wanting to do it with me. It's kinda cute, but she occasionally ventures dangerously close to where my foot lands. Tomorrow is a new exercise. I'm a little intimidated. Chest, arms and tri's. Gonna be sick. But can't wait!

I'm still working so... not much time to post! will try to post more tomorrow!

Tuesday, August 21, 2007. Chest, Arms, & Tricepts...+ Ab Ripper X.

I feel like I let myself down
I think I fatigue easy
I did 40 MASON TWISTS!!!

So, I planned on 4:30 a.m. I slept through my alarm. I think I need to trust my body. I really need to trust my body to know that it knows when I need rest, it will make me rest. I've been so tired, going to bed late because of the baby. But it's all good. So I did a new routine this morning..which was part of Phase 2. Chest, Arms & Tri's. To be honest, I feel that I underwhelmed myself with my performance.

Okay..scratch what I just said in that last sentence. I just stood up to bring something to the wife..and my arms are SO tight...holy CRAP i'm gonna be sore later. My shoulders the most. Tight tight muscles. Thing is, when you look at my fitness guide where I marked down my reps and man...it seems I didn't do much...but I think I ended up doing more than I originally thought. Cause I can already feel where it's gonna kick in and hurt...real bad. IcyHot Dreams coming!

Ab Ripper X, again, same thing. I wasn't able to do the same amount that I normally do...EXECPT at the end. I did all of the Mason Twists. I didn't make the bonus 10 mason twists, but I atleast did the initial 40!!! That's huge for me! Well..I need to do some work...I'll be on a little later!

If you are helping with the new baby and keeping on with your program at all, I take my hat off to you.

For sure you still need to take notice of what your body is telling you. Keep yourself safe and moving. :)

Thursday, August 23, 2007. Legs & Back + Ab Ripper X

Now that's what I'm talking about!

Okay, this morning went quite well. Felt the burn like you wouldn't believe. I actually was up at 4:40 to exercise...getting close to being back on schedule. Lately, because I'm working from home, and there's a bigger chance for me to snack at random. THere's too much good food here. Plus I'm not walking around the office like I used to. bad bad bad. So I need to watch myself...get plenty of exercise during the day. Hmmm...wondering if there were short burst exercises I could do throughout the day. Anyway,
I didn't do yoga yesterday because the little one was up WAY too late for his own good. I just couldn't muster the strength for the life of me to actually wake up. But I'm again, back on track. THanks for all your support!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Congratulations to you both!! He's so gorgeous (as is the rest of the family:) ) So makes me want another one. :rotflmao:

Friday, August 24, 2007. Kenpo X.

I need to getup earlier.
Still went good.

So.... My new son, wow he's throwing my schedule off! LOL. Joys of being a father of a newborn eh? Now granted, my wife is getting less sleep than I, but I am having a hard time keeping up! Especially with me having towork at 8:00 a.m. after being up for 2 feedings over night. Then getting up to exercise..it's just been incredibly tough! Some mornings I can't even get to my exercise until later on in the day...if that. I know i've skipped Yoga X alot..but to be honest, something always ends up messing up WEdnesday'sall together! It's very frustrating. But I'm going to try my best to keep up with it.

Okay. I just got back from the mechanic and my truck is going to cost over 1000 to repair....to which I replied, thanks but no thanks. This is a third opinion, not even a first. And this mechanic is one of the most trusted in the area! He even gave me a discount on my diagnostic. Sooooo....not sure what i'm gonna do about that one. We'll see...

Ugh! Bad news about the truck. That must be exercising your mind considerably right now, and I'm sure that's not something you need.

Good on you for all the helping with the little one and for your continuing attempts to find ways that you can keep exercising regardless of the extra constraints. That was a challenge I didn't cope with and though my memories of specifics from when my kids were little are blurred due to the constant lack of sleep back then, my memories of the feelings associated with all the work and the awkwardness of trying to cope, are quite sharp! Well done SS. You can get all the way to where you want to be and you are making that happen. This is a rare thing and worth taking pride in.

Yeah... well, I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason. Even if we had the truck fixed, it wouldn't work with our family size now. Can't fit 3 car seats and two adults. Soooo, on our current limited budget, I'm on the hunt for a van.

I'm apart of Beach Bodies' forums as well, and I'm getting alot of grief for missing Yoga. And its not that I'm deliberately skipping it. Well..maybe earlier in the program I was, but for the past 2 to 3 weeks, I'm sorry...things have just been a tad out of my control! I'm doing my best, and working my schedule around it, PLUS trying to work from home. It's a tad bit stressful...specially with the occasional ridicule! lol. This is how I feel most days at the end of the day :drooling:

Sunday, August 26, 2007 Week 2, Phase 2. Core Synergistics

Time to up the ante!
Increase the weight, increase the burn

So, today begins week two of Phase 2. I've decided to increase the weight set that I use during my workouts. I don't have many, but I thought it would be good to bring it a tad harder than before. This morning during Core, it was definitely a struggle with the increased weight. But damn did it ever feel good. I've showered and had my breakfast and my muscles are still vibrating. My only question is, with Core, should my arms be humming this much? Shouldn't my "core" be humming? I tighten my core during all of the exercises yet, don't feel the tightness or even a cramp when done..but my arms are still feeling it, and feeling it nicely. I wonder if I'm not doing it right.

I wonder if I do have some wrist problems though, cause after a while inplank position...I really start hurting in my wrists. Then again, it's from prolonged use..so maybe I just need to get over it. LOL

lol sore arms and wrists? <deleted rude comment> :p

Naw, id say your core is pretty strong then and the weights are on your arms more than the core.

Vans are an awesome investment - my personal vote is for Toyota - good reliability room and features, and if you can find diesel they are cheap as chips to run.

Monday, August 27, 2007. Week 2. Phase 2. Cardio X

Woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
p90x Kicked me back onto the bed and I rolled off on the Right side!

So, stayed up way too late working again, but hey, whatareya gonna do? Got up at 6:45 to exercise and Cardio X is onl y 45 min, not too bad at all. My stomach was feeling a tad "off" when exercising, and my son decided that it'd be fun to run around/by me during my exersices. I felt so bad because during my ball kicks, I almost kicked my 3 year old because he wanted to play "indiana jones". Boys will be boys. Also wondered why I had more sweat coming off today. Then I realize that the living room fan was off. Which isn't normal as it gets really stuffy in here over night. No biggie thoug.

I realized that most people do several rounds of p90x. Getting more and more toned as each session goes on. So I'm thinking that I may just have to do a round 2 myself.

Tomorrow is chest, shoulders, and Tri's, plus abripper. somebody shoot my arms now. They JUST stopped being really really sore. So much for that one! Looking for vans today. Hope something turns up!

Hey man, you're doing really well! I haven't been around much - super busy and not in front of my computer too often. Hope to catch up soon!

Tuesday, August 28, 2007. Week 2, Phase 2. Chest, Arms, Shoulders + Ab Ripper X.

I only have 3 words.
50. Mason. Twists.

This moring, I really really rocked it out... worked it hard. More on that later. My real proud moment, though, was when I was doing ab ripper x. I didn't get through all of the reps...but that is partially due to my 3 and 4 year old. It's cute at first seeing them try to do the exercises, but then, when they end up bumping into you while you're trying to do some core exercises, or one has to go to the bathroom... you lose your concentration/patience/count and it can get very frustrating. Anyway, I successfully deter them and they are off in their rooms playing just in time for some Mason Twists. Now, mind you, I normally collapse in a pile of goo right around 38-40 twists. But not today...I hit the grand total of 50! Which, for those that haven't encountered p90x is 40 twists with a bonus 10! w00t!!!! Wow that hurt..but damn did it feel good!

Now back to the first part of the work out. Being that this is a new exercises (well...for my second week atleast), I did atleast half of every exercises. Most I actually completed, but I went to muscle failure on everything else. All day my arms have felt tight, taut, and ready to flex. I LOVE the feeling and can't wait for yoga tomorrow to stretch it out! btw..did I mention that I did 50 mason twists?

Thurdsay (plus wednesday) August 30, 2007, (Yoga), Legs & Back + Ab Ripper X.

Yesterday was BUUUUUSSSSSY (translated: Busy) but I actually got Yoga in.
Today was Legs & Back..and I wasn't all that ambitious today :(.

And today has been equally as busy. Case in point. I started this at 10:34a.m. It is now 4:41pm and I JUST typed this sentence. Pathetic I know. All in all, I'm feeling better than I was this morning (totally wiped out, fatigued, and tired) and I didn't feel like I gave my all. But I figured I'd still workout. And I still felt a burn..but with midnight and 4 am feedings... I feel drugged beyond belief! Then with working until the wee hours... this first little bit is a BIG transition. And then, on the 19th, I have to travel for a few days..not sure how I"m going to work it into my schedule...THOUGH the office I"m moving too has a gym in it, and the p90x dvd's there..so I probably won't have an excuse at all.

So...I give up... it's now 5:11 and I just typed all that out. Maybe tomorrow or the day after I'll actually get to put in a quality post. Kenpo tomorrow! w00t! Hopefully I'll feel better! ugh...

HI SS,

I was directed to stop by here. I had a question about p90x - I saw the infomercial this morning.

How is it working for you? Do you think a person who has in the past really pushed it to the limits, but is now just at a medium level (me) could do the p90x system? I have quite a bit of tummy flab too.

I used to work out like 3 hrs a day and never had gotten super toned like I wanted, but was getting lighter and "meaner". Ha! But, then my life took a virtual spin on a tornado and exercise wasn't my top priority. It still isn't my top priority, but it's making it's way back up the ladder. It will probably stick somewhere in the middle though.

So, what's the verdict - is the program too mean for a whimp like me?

You were directed to my diary? I don't know whether to be flattered or frightened. LOL. So..the verdict of p90x on me eh? Lets see. If you haven't read my full diary, I started loosing weight back in October. I started out at 255. I did a number of different things, thought I was really up to a good fitness level. I thought wrong. I started p90x a little over a month ago and let me tell you, I've never been more fit in my life. And the good thing about it is, there's three different schedules you can do. The first is the Lean, which I am doing. It's intense...but not as intense as the two other schedules. You have the Classic program... which is the middle one. Now, the biggest difference with that one I do believe is that it includes the Plyometric routine. Until I loose all the unwanted weight and really start toning, I will try the plyometric. It's intense. and last but not least...is the Double! You do two of the exercise routines each day. You're pretty much asking for doublemint pain flavored gum right there! But if you're really REALLY looking for an intense, kick your ass to the wall, no mercy work out.. Do p90x.

The main ingredient to this work out is what the creator calls Muscle Confusion. Each week, you do a set of exercises. On week 4, there's a "recoverey week" in which, atleat for the first week, all weight training is removed and you get an extra day of stretching thrown in for good measure. I've never had ab's before. and now, my abs are starting to develop. I actually have definition...which is nuts for me. The confusion part that happens is a biproduct of the constant switching of routines from month to month. You're body doesn't get used to it...so it doesn't have a chance to adapt and you're constantly burning, sweating, and getting fit!

My stomach flab has gone down tremendously, and now i have a nice set of lose skin. hurray for me! Anywho... it all comes down to... it's severely kicks you in your butt. I need to take another picture soon. I want to do it at the end of 60 days, but that's 2 weeks off. I didn't exercise today because..well... this is my post for today:

Good morning you guys! I'm a zombie. Bonafide, George Romero, slow moving zombie! Grade F, last choice, bottom shelf meat. We're going through a major server migration at work...I'm doing my share all remotely (the server is in Tampa, I'm about 3 hours away.). I was up until 2 a.m. preparing it for the migration today. Just got up about a half an hour ago. I'm beat. Today is Kenpo X for me. I work from home, so perhaps when the kids go down for a nap, I will really quick change and give it a whirl! And I agree...just because it's the holiday (and my wedding anniversary to boot) doesn't mean I get a break! Did I mention I was working till 2?

I will try to do the Kenpo set today... It's not a long one..and it's a fun one to boot. I'm just beat... hope that helps! let me know if you have any other questions. And if you have any that you don't want in the public forum, either PM me or email me at saturdaysaint@gmail.com.

SS,

Thanks for the run down, it sounds like px90 really kicks bootie! Just what I need. Now if only I had the motivation to get it ordered....LOL

Good morning all.

I know..this is a break from the norm... but it's a different kind of morning. I don't know if I'm going to continue posting in the same way that I have been. So much has been going on in the past 2 to 3 weeks. My life has just been flipped on its ear, and it's now my schedule is completely off as well. Ever since my wonderful son came into the world, things have just been loopy. I no longer have the stamina to get up at 4:30 a.m. like I normally do. And now that I'm working from home (which is an incredibly sweet gig, btw), I find myself snacking more than when I was at the office. It's not bad snacking. But my consumption levels are up. I'm not gaining weight, and I am still exercising everyday, it's just...I like change, but I hate change at the same time. When it comes to exercising... I like a routine.

Yesterday was my Sixth Wedding Anniversary. It also marked the first day of Week 3, Phase 2 for p90x for me. Last week, I don't feel like I gave my all... this week is going to be different. Core Synergistic was yesterday, and I beat it's ass! Well... it didn't get away without getting some blows in on me either. I sweated like no body's business. I really threw myself into the exercise. It was a beautiful thing! My only thing is, reading some messages while doing p90x, veterans of the program have told me that you don't really see a difference until day 50 or beyond. Well..I'm on day 44 and to be honest, I'm not sure of just how much of a difference I'm seeing. Maybe it's because I scrutinize my body every damn day... Maybe I'll see the major changes when I start round two of p90x. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment and have decided I'm probably gonna start the whole program over again from the beginning... And instead of doing the lean program, doing the Classic. Which includes Plyometrics... which from what I can see, will royally put a damper on my personal comfort LOL. I don't know, maybe I'm borderline disapointed in myself. I know I don't have all the tools that I would like to have for this (chin up bar, push up stands, etc), but I'm doing the best I can. I wanted to be ripped by the end of this... we'll see. I still have one month and 2 weeks left. But when it comes to food, I don't have "cheat days" normally like most say it's good to have... but yesterday, I got up and made french toast for everyone. Made with wheat bread and egg whites. It was yummy..didn't over do it. Because of everything going on (scheduling my sister in law to fly down from Canada later this month and a few other things), I didn't get to have lunch (I know..so bad). But for dinner, I found a recipe. Here's what it is: Chicken and Portobello Rollups - Allrecipes
It was SOOOO good. We added a side salad and mashed cauliflower and it was HEAVENLY! Now granted, I did have just one bottle of bacardi (it's an us thing... memories *le sigh*) and a small...very thin slice of tuxedo cake...which I'm sorry... slam me all you want but that was freakin awesome! It was a special day! I love her more than I ever have... and she's just plain wonderful! Oh..and since having the baby, she's lost 18lbs already. She now weighs less than she did pre pregnancy. She's stoked. Hasn't even started exercising. Once she's completely healed, she's going to start her actual weight loss plan. Anyway, I have a hungry little boy to feed, and Cardio X to do today... Have a good one all. (though, it doesn't seem to many people come by anymore )
