Risty's Diary (Christina)

However if your goal is fitness the elliptical doesn't do anything to improve your fitness because you don't do that motion in anything (so it doesn't help you with stairs, biking, walking, running).

The elliptical WILL help with with fitness (like the stairs bike etc..), I noticed a HUGE improvement in my fitness level and life and i mostly use the elliptical. Any cardio will strengthen your heart which will make EVERYTHING easier to do when you have better cardiovascular health.

I mean if you are on a rowing team then use the row machine to condition, if you are a cyclist, a spin class is a good choice - if you are training for it. But the elliptical will help in the big picture too.

My trainer says it's best to not do that same cardio activity everyday because your body will get use to it, so no matter, switching it up always is the best choice. And always include some High Intensity Interval Training...everyone can benefit from that no matter what sport or life activity you do.

Obscure - I know it's best not to do the same type of stuff everyday, hence why I want all three types of equipment. But the elliptical will not help with walking like if you were walking, or with stairs as if you were doing stairs, or with biking as if you were actually biking... that's what I meant. I mean it's obviously helping improve your cardio in ways, but if you want to improve your fitness for example with running or biking then you need to run or bike to do it. Doing the actual activity will help you improve so much more. Trust me, I used the elliptical a lot, but when I went to run or bike, I was horrible! So I had to run to improve my running. That's all I was meaning.

Muzic_lover - I love your attitude, you'll definitely reach your goals with an attitude like that!

MJB - I agree with you, I'm not going to buy anymore, so I'll just use up what I have and leave it at that! Though some of the flavours I'll miss like raspberry ice, cherry pomegranate and tangerine... YUM...lol

Exercise - Mon, Tues, Weds - Biking on hills level 4 for an hour.

I'm getting my cardio in now, but I haven't done any strength training... AH! So I'll have to start adding that back in for sure.

The weather was so nice yesterday I wanted to start running again, but I was at my grandma's with my hubby and sister's hubby watching them load stuff in the trailer. I went to help, but.... I would have just been in the way, lol.

I should really start running again though, the weather has been consistently getting better. I want to join the learn to run group because it's more fun that way, I just don't know if I should spend the money on it when I know what to do.

Risty - you live in Beautiful B.C.!!! Don't buy a treadmill! Save your $ - walking and running is free! And you've got the scenery to enjoy it! (unless you live down town Vancouver or something..lol! Then yeah - get a treadmill!

You are really doing AWESOME! Biking for an hour is great...I get bored after 30min of any cardio!! Do you bike in the mountains ever? I love visiting BC and hiking through the mountains (not to good at biking through them..lol)

hehehe I lived in Vancouver for three years and it rains ... a LOT. So jogging in the rain isn't always fun. Re: spending money when you already know what to do, you know what, it's about how best can I have success. And if you can best succeed by being around other people .. DO it. That's how I operate anyway. I did a running group with The Running Room and it was fun.

Wish I had you weather ... i wanna start walking but there is still snow on the ground here in germany. Take advantage of nice weather :) Just curious .. and this question is kinda for all the woman ... for exersize that bra or sports bra do you use ... sorry if its too personal ... I just have no idea .. Thanks :)

muzic_lover: I usually fins shirts with built in bra's. I'm fairly flat chested so i don't need crazy support, so just basic sport bras work fine (wire is annoying @ the gym :) I highly recommend getting a good one though if ur bigger up top. Not enough support can cause premature sagging, plus it can cause back problems.

Great job on the cardio effort Risty :)

And you're really lucky the weather is improving where you live!

I live in Arizona, and its supposed to be in the 80s next week, which is a drastic difference than the 60s this week. HATE it when it starts heating back up in MARCH!

Anyways, keep it up! :smash:

Obscure - LOL, that's too funny! I don't live in Van so I know I should be outside. I mostly want a treadmill for the winter months, or when it's just crappy outside. I don't have room for one now anyways. Actually I'm thinking about starting to learn to run again (and that would be outside for sure). About the biking, I'm not outside I'm using my recumbent bike...I keep myself entertained by watching tv at the same time otherwise I'd be bored too. Actually sometimes I watch tv and have music playing in one ear to have a good beat! OY! Yeah I hate cardio so whatever it takes to keep me going right? I'm just really bad at a real bike, it scares the crap out of me, so for exercise I'll use the recumbent and then slowly try to get used to a real bike, lol.

Muzic_Lover - I definitely use a sports bra, especially for things like running, anything that involves jumping, etc. The only time I use an exercise shirt with a built in bra is if I'm on my bike) because the upper body isn't bouncing in anyway! lol... But yeah, if you're going to do any exercises that make the girls bounce and if you have a big enough chest, then get a sports bra. I got mine at the running room, it was a little expensive but it works really really well.

Andy - The winter is usually worse here but this year was weird, it barely snowed! I'm bad though and have not been taking advantage of it!

2skinny - Yeah the running room learn to run was sooo awesome. I had a lot of fun. I also like it because I don't have to watch the time you just keep going until they tell you to walk or run!

Today - I haven't exercised yet but all this posting in all the diaries makes me want to, so as soon as I'm done I'm going to get on my recumbent bike.

For lunch I think I made one of the healthiest things I've ever made ever... lol. I made a smoothie and in it I put skim milk, protein powder, some banana, mixed berries, spirulina, phyto power and flaxseed oil. Now, it doesn't taste like the yummiest smoothie ever but it's so good for me! LOL.. If anyone is wondering what the hell is phyto power, it's a green powder of tons of different vegetables, sea vegetables, etc. Below I'll post what's in it:

Green Phyto-Power Contains
• Organic barley and wheat grass – Two of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, yet they are not common in our diet. The grasses
harvested for Green Phyto-Powder are grown in chemical-free, nutrient-rich soil to yield a nutritionally dense food.

Last night had too much temptation. My hubby's dad came over for a movie and we ordered pizza, too much pizza and with them eating a lot it made me want to eat a lot and I gave in. I feel bad about it, but I must move on from it.

I will definitely go on my bike today. I have all week, which I'm proud of.

I made a smoothie and in it I put skim milk, protein powder, some banana, mixed berries, spirulina, phyto power and flaxseed oil.

WOW that's an INSANE drink!!! I should try something like that! I just drink protein isolate after my work outs. I bet that would be like a female Popeye drink!

I've heard really good things about flaxseed oil.

If you like that stuff you should use hemp seeds too - you can get hemp seed butter too. It has lots of good stuff in it. It's rather pricey though.

I bet that was hard watching them all eat pizza ... I LOVE PIZZA .... I could prolly eat a whole one ... might take me sometime but I could lol. but dont feel bad about it ... as far as I can remember you havent cheated at all ... so this pizza is fine ... and u worked out more so thats great ! Not sure if this is true ... but I rememeber hearing once a girl talked about eating a candy bar and she was dieting ... and she said since she hadnt had one in a while that when she ate it her body just burned it right up .... I wonder if this is with everything we eat ... maybe you pizza was all burnt up :)

Hey Risty,

So you had some pizza - I had chocolate fingers last night, we all eat things we shouldn't. Doing plenty of exercise means you needn't feel so guilty about it though, and you're definately doing that!! Nice one on using the bike every day. :hurray:

Are you doing something nice for Mother's Day? xx

Scoot over to my diary and you'll see I did the 'ol pizza thing on the weekend also. lol

Monday is a new day, the beginning of a whole new dedicated week. And it's going to feel so good to have looser clothes. YAY!!

I had 3 huge slices of pizza this weekend, and I still lost weight when I weighed in at my weight loss class! Maybe I was just lucky, but don't let a splurge discourage you. I had a gain one week but kept on trying and it paid off.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having temptations! Though your pizza and chocolate fingers don't add up to the 5.... count them .... 5 slices of pizza I had! I haven't eaten that much pizza in so long. I mean I would do it a lot before I started trying to lose weight, but not while trying! Ah well, it's done and over with! At least I went on the bike.

I went on my bike all week, haven't gone on yet today since I worked all day. I'll go on it once my hubby leaves to go shooting. I said I would start up shooting too, but I'd rather focus my extra time on weight loss right now... I'll join in the shooting later!

Hay Girl!!! Mmmm did someone say Pizza?? lol

Way to keep it moving on the bike! Nice job! You always seem to have so much energy to workout! Pass some of that over here. hehe
