Phoenyx's Final 10 & Journey to Fitness

Because the PCOS makes weight loss super difficult (long complicated BS involving hormones/insulin/other crap), my doctor is pulling out all the stops. I have always eaten a healthy diet, and even after I started gaining weight about 4 years ago I still eat approximately 1500-1600 of healthy food. I exercise regularly for at least an hour 6 days a week. The doc has me on 1200 calories a day with 2 shakes (the kind they give bariatric patients after surgery), and 5 mg of Meridia. I also got taken OFF my birth control to see if my hormones can stabilize without meds. It hasn't quite been a month, but I weighed myself this morning and I'm down to 173 again (6 pounds in 22 days). I go back to the doctor on Monday... so we'll see...

I don't know how often you get to the bay area, but there's a great herbalist in Berkeley that does wonders with female troubles. She may even be able to help in conjunction with your doc with the PCOS. At least in balancing the hormones. PM me if you want her info. I got off the Pill a few years ago after being on it for way too long, and my hormones were out of whack because of it. She helped me get them back in line.

So I noticed this morning that my upper body strength has really improved. Thanks to yoga. I popped in the Rachel Brice Tribal Fusion DVD this morning for a bit of a workout to get me going. Her workouts start with a 10 minute yoga warmup. I was rather shocked to discover that lowering to the ground from plank position was a LOT easier than it used to be. Not 'easy' but easier. And controlled instead of plunking down I could control how slow I lowered down! Must be that chatturanga (spelling?) that I do repeatedly with one of the yoga dvds. (chatturanga to upward facing dog to downward facing dog... great series of moves!)

Holding steady at 159!

Didn't go on my walk yesterday because it was too bloody grey and cold. I didn't want to chance getting sick again. But since its sunny and a touch warmer I'll do it today.

YAY FOR RACHEL BRICE!! Daaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmn her belly is AMAZING when she's doing the rib rolls--WOWZA it's like a SNAKE! :eek2:

YAY for Chaturanga! :hurray: Word, I feel you, and it made my back and upper arms leaner and toned, wow!

In her "Arms & Posture" DVD there's a move she goes through called 'serpentine'... is amazing. Kind of a bitch to do, but its amazing.

I can feel it in my upper chest too.

For me its a matter of the coordination and control rather than the strength that is challenging. But yeah, she's buff! She also has very little body fat so its easy to see how all her muscles move. I think she's awesome.

Funny, I was looking back to the first post of my journal. At that point I had lost 65 pounds, and my goal was to lose another 10. Looks like I've lost nearly 17 since I joined WLF back in July.

Went on my lunchtime walk today. Felt good to get out there and move.

Oh, that woman is AMAZING!!!! I SERIOUSLY need to get me one of her DVDs!

I'm about ready to start a serious belly dancing practise regime... I wanna go PRO!!! :hurray:

That's awesome! I'd like to pursue it some more, but no time for more lessons right now. So I practice at home.

ok i'm gonna try and find this rachel woman. now you all got me interested lol :)

hope you enjoy the walk :)

Thank you, the walk was great. The one coworker that can keep up a quick pace came with me, so it wasn't a solo effort this time.

I have a couple of Rachel Brice's DVDs. They are:

Tribal Fusion - Yoga Isolations & Drills for Bellydance

and

Bellydance Arms and Posture

Both are really good, but my warning about the Tribal one is be careful with the yoga warmups if you aren't used to doing yoga. Doing a warm up beforehand is definitely recommended so you don't pull something. The warmups on the Arms & Posture DVD are a little kinder but I'd still do a warmup just because.

Holding at 159.

I think I'm going to focus on staying at this weight through the holidays, and kick in losing the final 4 afterwards. Now, if I happen to lose more weight through the holidays, I'll not complain. Nosiree.

So today we're doing our holiday party at work. They're having this fantastic Italian deli cater it. I fear the lasagna. No, not really... but I know I'm gonna have to have some. Just a couple bites, then I'll stick to the meats & veggies.

Thank goodness I'll have yoga tonight, and I'll have a light dinner when I get home. Probably a salad with some shrimp on it.

This morning's weigh-in:

Weight: 159.4
% body fat: 23.3
BMI: 23.5

Sweet!

Last night's yoga class felt great! Enjoyed our holiday party at work yesterday, and while I behaved myself overall... I still couldn't resist having a couple bites of the cream cheese pesto dip, some chips & salsa and a brownie. Had some of the lasagna too... a small piece. But hey! I didn't overdo it like so many times in the fat past.

I'm kinda sad to hear that Betty Page died. I know she was 85, and it sounds like she was having health problems... but she was an icon, a phenomenon. And she had a fantastic figure. Lovely, lovely curves on that woman when she was in her era of fame.

Speaking of lovely curves, another icon of the era was Lili St. Cyr... she was absolutely stunning!

I would love to have a physique like either of those women. Yowza!

Oh no, Betty Page died? She WAS an icon, wow!!!!

Nice with the Yoga!!! Hey we're a lot a like in our workouts it seems :)

My belly dancing style is traditional 1970s Egyptian but my homegirl is gonna get me into more American Triball :D

What, yoga, belly dance, martial arts? Yeah, pretty similar. I don't run at this point except for a bit of a jog on my walks now and then. That may or may not change, you never know.

Well... I went from "I don't run" to "you never know" so that's saying something. :smilielol5:

Egyptian style is cool. When I was taking classes a lot of it was focused on Egyptian, but she threw in other styles as well. I kinda gravitated towards tribal on my own. I love the sinuosity of it.

I popped in the Rachel Brice arms & posture dvd this morning... man I love that girl's style! One of these days I WILL get the Sidewinder move down. Dangit!!

No kidding, I love her too! She's epic :eek2:

LOL on the running--I have NOT been running, the last time was.....shit a long time ago, weeks even? That's OK, I'll be back

Hey baby--whaddup??? :)

Heya, Doll! :seeya:

I'm bloody freezing!!! That's what's up! :ack2: The ONLY drawback to losing all that weight is I lost my insulation. I didn't do that well in the cold to begin with, now its worse.

And yeah, I know its colder in other parts of the world, but I am used to the SF Bay Area weather... I've been here almost all my life.

Overslept so I didn't get to do any yoga this morning. Yeah, lovely day here. :ack2::ack2:

Seriously, can I just go hibernate until mid-February? That's when Speed Week starts up, and that would be worth being awake for.

Ok, I'm whining, and I know I am. :nopity:

Ah well, I'll go do some Xmess shopping tonight, the do some yoga when I get home to get the tension out of my neck.
