Yeah, it was the 'dumb shit' comment. Totally caught me off guard, made me laugh.
So the first yoga class was pretty good. Seems like the instructor had to keep certain aspects of the yoga practice constrained because, well, it was at the Rec Center... deep in the outskirts of BeigeLand.
You're probably wondering... What is BeigeLand? It is an area of the East Bay known as the 680 corridor, or at least part of it. I call it BeigeLand because, well, it is quite Beige. I noticed this driving down the street in one of the neighborhoods one day. The newer McMansions, all in varying shades of Beige. The cars and SUVs parked out front... the predominant color was Beige, then silver. The women... dressed in Beige. Mom jeans as far as the eye can see. (Who designed those things, anyway? ) Beige people in their Beige houses, driving their Beige cars throughout their Beige lives...
This traumatizes me... I'm a black truck drivin', dyed red hair and red lipstick wearin' type of gal. My tattoo on my arm has more color than can be found in a whole block of beige suburbia.
But I digress.
I guess if the instructor were to start talking about the more spiritual aspects associated with yoga, I am pretty sure it would upset the delicate sensibilities of some of the other students, who looked to be denizens of BeigeLand. Hell, I managed to offend one of the women today just by being who I am. Didn't even need to say anything to her... but somehow I offended her. Must've been the tattoos. Wait! I've only begun to offend!
I didn't do too badly in the class. Managed to get the postures correct relatively quickly. Saw what I was doing right and wrong while I did certain things at home. And the way she told us to move in certain ways translated a lot better in person than thru a dvd. I'm kinda looking forward to next week's class.
