Phoenyx's Final 10 & Journey to Fitness

Hey Phoenyx, thanks fo rthe rep this morning! I'm assuming it was about the "dumb shit" comment LOL?

Some pretty cool stuff going on in your part of the world here. I'll have to swing by more often. Have a good one!

oooo, want to start a yoga class myself soon! I just don't seem to be able to stick to it alone :/

Hope you enjoy!!

Yeah, it was the 'dumb shit' comment. Totally caught me off guard, made me laugh.

So the first yoga class was pretty good. Seems like the instructor had to keep certain aspects of the yoga practice constrained because, well, it was at the Rec Center... deep in the outskirts of BeigeLand.

You're probably wondering... What is BeigeLand? It is an area of the East Bay known as the 680 corridor, or at least part of it. I call it BeigeLand because, well, it is quite Beige. I noticed this driving down the street in one of the neighborhoods one day. The newer McMansions, all in varying shades of Beige. The cars and SUVs parked out front... the predominant color was Beige, then silver. The women... dressed in Beige. Mom jeans as far as the eye can see. (Who designed those things, anyway? ) Beige people in their Beige houses, driving their Beige cars throughout their Beige lives...

This traumatizes me... I'm a black truck drivin', dyed red hair and red lipstick wearin' type of gal. My tattoo on my arm has more color than can be found in a whole block of beige suburbia.

But I digress.

I guess if the instructor were to start talking about the more spiritual aspects associated with yoga, I am pretty sure it would upset the delicate sensibilities of some of the other students, who looked to be denizens of BeigeLand. Hell, I managed to offend one of the women today just by being who I am. Didn't even need to say anything to her... but somehow I offended her. Must've been the tattoos. Wait! I've only begun to offend! :biggrinjester:

I didn't do too badly in the class. Managed to get the postures correct relatively quickly. Saw what I was doing right and wrong while I did certain things at home. And the way she told us to move in certain ways translated a lot better in person than thru a dvd. I'm kinda looking forward to next week's class.

And these classes will only get more interesting in Beigeland...

BTW, thanks for the visual, I can only imagine dyed hair, lipstick and tattoos in a yoga class full of perfect little soccer moms with plastic smiles and silicone boobs.

 Yep, you nailed it! I see that every single day. I saw more diverse and colorful neighborhoods in Lawrence Kansas than some of the 'burbs out here.

There's a few of the non-beige set in there... it was just funny the reaction of this one woman. Guess it doesn't help that I generally wear all black when I am in my workout classes. Hmmm, pity all my pagan oriented shirts are way too big now. :reddevil: She makes me want to push buttons. :reddevil::reddevil:

Ok, weekly weigh in!!!

I'm down to 162, so I LOST 3.1 pounds! Yeah!!! Once again the scale going the right direction! :willy_nilly:

I think part of the gain must have been water weight due to TOM, so that came off and then a pound.

Other good news is the body fat is down to 23.7%.

Guess that power walking during lunch is paying off. One of my coworkers did manage to join me... thankfully the one that is pretty athletic so we were able to do a pretty grueling pace. I told her my goal was to be able to run the circuit we walk. She says she's up for it too... hopefully I'll have a running buddy. Be nice to have somebody to help me push myself.

I can't believe I just typed that. Why do I have the desire to run?

I crave Mexican food! :biggrinjester::biggrinjester:

I have friends that make t shirts like you mentioned. It's all original art work. I have dozens that no longer fit me. Lucky me they are having a show near me next weekend. I plan on stocking up on the smaller sizes. :D

hmmm, all those cool pics and designs on fabric??? sounds like an AWESOME idea for making yourself some handbags!!!! or anything really!

Now that's a good idea! I have this plain black canvas messenger bag that I could applique some of those old t-shirts on to. That would be unique and cool.

Got some devil costume shots, but I need to process them and put big ol' watermarks on 'em before I post them.

I like my sister in law's scale... it says I weigh 5 pounds less than the one at my doctor's.

My job situation is looking pretty damn scary right now thanks to the economy. I was freaking out until talking to my welding instructor yesterday. So I'll be focusing on getting certified in TIG welding for the rest of the semester and I'll have a chance of getting a job in a fab shop or something like that. Nice to know that I have the possibility of other options. If this job goes away, I'm taking as a sign to get out of the graphic design/publishing industry. I had already told my 'boss' a while back that if I left the company it was because I'm leaving the industry.

If that's the case... good thing I've lost weight and I'm in relatively good shape now... I'm gonna need it.

So I don't think any part of tonight's MMA class didn't involve ending up on the ground with the exception of kicking practice. We did some boxing that ended in a takedown, then practiced some of the different Judo style flips, and on to the Brazilian ju jitsu grappling.

At least I'm getting better at falling. :smilielol5:

And VERY glad I'm about 1/3 lighter than when I was doing this at the beginning. And stronger. And more flexible. Knee's still giving me a little grief though.

Hmmm, been eating kinda crappy the past few days. Better get that back under control.

I started taking a glucosamine supplement because my knees pop so much. Figure see if it works, get a quicker jump on it so I can stay active.

Tomorrow I do my lunchtime quick walk. Maybe I'll try to run part of it. Keep working on getting the butt firmed up.

I KNEW there had to be another MMA junkie on here! You're so lucky that it's legal in your state...For some reason it isn't in Ontario. No clubs, no classes, nothing! But our various martial arts teachers tend to stray into the MMA side quite often :). All i'm saying is that I would save a lot of time and money by having it all in one class, dangit!

Good job on the 3.1lb loss this week!! Keep it up!

I read a fair amount of your journal while lurking tonight. Thanks for taking the time to keep posting in it, its pretty inspiring. :D

Heh... gotta love MMA. The classes I take are more geared towards JKD (Jeet Kune Do) but on watching a UFC match, what they do in the octagon ring is very similar to what we've been learning in the class. I'm thinking of adding Tai Chi to the mix next year.

Weird that it isn't legal in Ontario. I wonder why.

I was pretty happy to get that 3.1 off of there. I've pretty much decided my range is going to fall between 155-160. The closer I can get to 155 before the holidays, the better.

Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it.:hurray:

I have never really looked for running shoes before. I have no idea what to look for. They all look so space age nowadays.

Go to Fleet Feet Pleasant Hill--I dunno if the staff is as cool as the Aptos F.F., but best store EVER for running shoes. Tom measured my feet, watched me walk, and gave me soles, socks, and shoes, and I ran 13.1 miles in them and did not get ONE blister :eek2: The shoes were like, $90 though. Ask for sales.

GAWD the East/North Bay is so boring *yawn* Beigeland indeed!

Glad you enjoyed your Yoga class and I hope your knee gets better--sometimes Yoga can be bad on a bad knee, so no Lotus for you!

Hope you get a stiff grip on eating and feel better!!!

Hmmm, not as stiff as I feared I'd be after last night's class. That's a good thing! Especially after all the throwing & grappling. One more week of focusing on these methods, and next session we'll start on escrima again. Yay!!!

I'm debating on signing up for the seminar on Russian martial arts & knife fighting on Dec. 13. If I weren't so uncertain of my job, I'd probably do it, but I may have to use that date for the welding certification test. If Andy thinks I'm ready to do it. It'd be easier if I had a TIG welder at home, but I don't. Yet. I want one though.

Oh that sounds fun! :drooling:

Chris knows how to knife fight, was gonna teach me soon....

Yep, boring as hell at times.

I'm making sure I don't overdo it on the knee. I noticed it twinging a bit last night when I would get up after getting flipped or thrown so I modified how I got up. Knee's not doing too bad today.

I'll have to check out Fleet Feet... thanks for the tip!

Knife fight.

Good god.

Note to self: Keep this one on my good side.

I've taken a few different ones so far... its pretty wild. Something I hope to NEVER have to encounter.

Though I'd love to learn Krav Maga. The taste I got during one seminar was intense!

you're welcome--I had to check out the locations and noticed P.H. was closest to Concord!

Was in Oakland on Sunday.....sure do love THAT part of the East Bay :(

Aw, mouse farts!! I have to go in to jury duty tomorrow. :banghead:

Last several times I've just had to call in and they tell me I didn't have to go. This time I'm not so lucky. Dammit.

Oh well, I'll grab my sketch book, my plastic skull, and start working on some designs I want to paint on my husband's truck while I sit around and wait.

That's what drives me nuts... the waiting. I hate having my time wasted. I'm very bitter and jaundiced towards the whole jury duty thing because last time I had to go in what should have taken a couple days ended up taking longer than a week. That was just for the selection process.

We've got a magazine shipping to the printer tomorrow too, which means I'm leaving my boss shorthanded in the prepress area. :banghead::banghead::banghead:
