Weight-Loss ~Pedometer Buddies~

Weight-Loss
Hi everyone, those of you who have been reading my diary are already aware that it's been difficult for me to get into a proper routine this past week or so as I was away.
But I'm back now, with avengence!

Except... I'm wondering if my pedometre isn't playing up. I've been doing between 6,000 and 9,000 per day and suddenly, this evening, it's showing me 2,982 :banghead: I know this is going to seem like a silly question - after all it's not called a pedometre for nothing - but does everyone wear it around their ankle? Do you ever have dodgy readings? Is it better to wear it on the inside of the ankle or the outside? (Sorry for these daft questions, but I don't have the instruction booklet). Thanks for your advice.

I clip mine to my waistband of my trousers in a line up from my knee and this is where it was recommended to be placed.

My hubby has a pedometer that he clips to his pocket - and I know that is where his is supposed to be placed.

I know that Amber said (I think in Allyphoe's diary) that she sometimes clips hers to a little pocket on her bra (there may have been padding there once)!

Is there a make or model number that you could search on the internet?

If not - conduct little experiments.

Wear it, walk say 200 steps and check and see if it has gone up by roughly 200. If not - try wearing it somewhere else.

Make sure that it is not having the count suppressed because of clothing getting bundled up around it. I had a problem once with my boobs hanging low and acting as shock absorbers. When I put on a more supportive bra it all went fine.

Good luck.

Thanks, Margaret, that makes far more sense. It seemed a little awkward clipping it on to my sock!!!

I'll do a bit of experimenting, but I think I'll try to buy another one anyway - with bells and all! Hopefully tomorrow's reading will make more sense.
:seeya:

you can set your stride length on most of them, so on mine I set it to what I think, then walk 100 steps and then see what it says and adjust from there, if you dont have the adjustment you can still see how close it is. That way you know if it says 80 steps and you have done 100 that you can always take the # you get and multiple by 1.2 to get your 'true' number of steps.

Thanks Mom2! I'll try and find a moment today to see exactly how accurate (inaccurate!) it is, but in any case I think I'll pick up another one sometime this week. They don't really cost too much and I can see that those of you who use a pedometre regularly seem to swear by them. Thanks anyway for all the tips!

1/7/2008 10681 4.14miles (and this was home with a sick kid so I am pround of that, I went to the gym and walked/jogged on treadmill)

Well done Mom2. :hurray: It will be very difficult doing exercise with a sick child.

My stepcount was boosted by my aerobics class.

Reading this has made me want to dust off my pretty pink pedometer! I just have to find it now! lol

Tabitha - dig out that pedometer and wear it all day long. With two small children it will be hard for you to go out on formal walks - but you may as well monitor and feel good about the steps that you do manage. Every step helps to keep us healthy.

Pedometer reading:

Been searching I think the pedometer fairy stole it and has taken it to the big pedometer in the sky... off to ebay I go!:auto:

Problem solved, somehow pedometer had made into the bottom of a bag of crochet! It would appear that the bag had done 11,586 steps! but I can't be sure over how long!

Tomorrow will be a full pedometre reading day!:willy_nilly:

Tabitha-hurry back from ebay its fun seeing everyone posting their #'s!!!

1/09/2008 16,178 6.28mi Yeah!

MOM2

ebay shmebay! I found it at the bottom of a bag of crochet and wool! the bag had done nearly 20,000 steps!

Had it on since breakfast and so far, 1,400 but then it wasn't on in the right place so hasn't registered as much as it should (probably should be closer to 5,000 which would be better considering it is now 2pm GMT)

Best get off my bum as it's only 3.5 hours to weigh in and every second counts!

Margaret

Tell me about it! It must have a secret life I've not noticed! I blame the housework fairies.

This afternoon I appear to have hit the 5,000 mark after zeroing it at 2pm... which is a bit more of a respectable number.

Tomorrow we will try again!

Mom2 - well done!

Tabitha - a nice busy afternoon - well done. It can be awkward to get them to count properly at times. You have to get it positioned just right!

Just catching up... Had an extra busy day today....
