Hello everyone,

Well I've just introduced myself on the newcomers forum, so sorry if I repeat myself for anyone who has read that...

My name is Pip, I live in an agricultural town in England (well technically it's a city) where I'm surrounded by cows and apples. I am 22yrs old, 5ft 10 and currently weigh 255llbs. At my heaviest I was 270llbs so even with my limited maths skills, I've lost 15llbs and counting. My ultimate goal would be about 180llbs, but I'm gonna break that down into bitesize (pun absolutely intended) goals so I don't get distracted. My first goal will be 230llbs, hence 25llbs away from what I am now.

I have been going to the gym 2-3 times a week, with the occasional 'Body Pump' group class which, by the way, really really hurts for days after :rotflmao:

On top of this I am drinking lots of water and watching what I'm eating. I know I have a tendency to become a tad obsessed with things, and have already found that some days I am undereating. I know at the end of the day this will actually hinder my weight loss, but it's a mental battle I need to overcome. Does anyone else do this??

I'm feeling really motivated at the moment and can't wait to continue on my weight loss journey with the support of all you guys. Please do introduce yourself, I don't bite...hard. Good luck to everyone else and I hope you keep up with my diary.

Here we go.............:seeya:

Hi Lochmond,

Aww thank you, I definitely feel better for it, but I have a long way to go yet. I'm at work, so shouldn't really be on here but shhhh lol. What are your goals?

p.s nice to have some brits on here. X

I know I have a tendency to become a tad obsessed with things, and have already found that some days I am undereating.
I'm the same as you in that I tend to obsess about things so all I did was start to obsess about losing weight the healthy way. :)
Good luck

:D I go on here all the time during work! I've kinda got a bit addicted to all the motivation that's on here! My main goal is to get down to 140lbs for my 5ft7" height which is measly compared to your 5"10. (sigh) I always wanted to be taller... When I get down to 140 I plan to see what shape I'm in... I'd like to be toned and fit, and that is when I'll have reached the ULTIMATE goal!!! I found this really good online recipe book the other day that us Brits can use - have you heard of the BBC good food website? You can choose low calorie options to make and there are thousands of recipes from all types of different cuisines!!!

eyckmans - you're like a celebrity on this forum hehe, I see your name everywhere and feel like I've gotten to know you in a weird way. Very pleased you've commented on my diary, you always have valuable input. Yeah, it's weird isn't it, that we spend years overeating and being totally ignorant to the damage we are doing, then overnight you get obsessive with calories and sweating haha (as in the gym, not just randomly sweating ewww). I've been a bit naughty again today, not eaten a lot as I've been very busy, but have drunk loads of water, so hopefully I'm not putting myself in any danger. I feel fine anyway! I will definitely try and see it the way you do, rather than getting obsessed with 'eating less'. Thanks for the words of wisdom, yoda of WLF!! lol

Hi again Lochmond - your goal sounds very healthy...really what the scales say is irrelevent if you're slim, toned and feeling good. That should realy be everyone's goal, but we get fixated with the numbers don't we? Grrr to us! I have been on that website, there's some lovely things on there, Channel4 website is also good, check it out. I like the recipes from 'Cook yourself Thin' because they make normal lush food, just in a healthier way. Do you mind me asking what weight you're at now and how far you've come so far?

Well in general today has been okay. I work in a children's home, arrived at 8am, it's now midnight and I've just finished. I'll sleep in and leave at 9am. LONG DAYS. I don't eat enough and drink too much black coffee, but no sugar so not too bad hehe. Today I've had some toast, a yoghurt and 2 small slices of pizza. I know it's not enough. I'll do better tomorrow, promise hehe. Night all x

Lol that made me laugh I didn't realize that I was such a chatterbox that people would notice. Whatever you do don't take everything I say as true:) 6 months ago I was a fat couch potato and had never exercised in my life. I have learnt so much and had so much support from the people here that it's great to be able to pay some of it back in anyway I can. The encouragement from the people in this forum has been invaluable to me. They have done what I never thought possible and got me to run and actually enjoy it :)

PS yep nothing like a good sweat to make you feel as if you are doing some good.

PPS for the clicker go to tickerfactory.com make your sticker, copy the first code that they give you. Click on userCP at top of this page and then on edit signature at the side of the page. Paste code into box and you are done. To edit it just click on clicker to take you back to the page and go through whole process again.

Thanks eyckmans, I'll do that when I get home. Yep, still at work. Had to stay up till 2am because one of our little buggers ran off. All safe and sound now though so don't fret. I'm super tired this morning though so may have to put off going to the gym until later. On my next post I;ll talk about what it is I do at the gym etc. For now though I really need to drive home, so YODA (new nickname hehe) I'll catch you later, have a good day x

Now now, no promises to bite - you'll get me all excited. heheh :)

As for the ticker and food diary - my favorite is from MyFitnessPal.com (I'm not affiliated with that site, I just use it and really like it). The tickers are good and the food diary helps me so much! There are also a lot of other tickers out there if you don't find one you like, just google "weight loss ticker". :)

Awww nice to see you so soon stacy, I think I'm talking to you on two threads simultaneously! Thanks for the info on tickers, but I'd already made this one by the time I'd seen your post.

So I said I was going to talk a little about what I do when I'm at the gym. I normally go 2-3 times a week, maybe with one or two classes also. I do Body Pump regularly and am starting fitball and pilates. None of which are aerobic type classes, but I figure I get my aerobic exercise when I work out at the gym. When I go to the gym, I stay for 45mins. This includes:

15min jog 5 min cool down walk OR
20min interval training on cross trainer

1000m rowing

20mins of weight training, targeting abs, arms and shoulders.

How does this sound? I think maybe I'm not doing enough cardio, but I get so bored doing it, I'd rather pick up a cardio class...what do you lot think? x

p.s. weighed myself this morning, 1llb down, 29 to go

Ohhh Pilates! I think you'll enjoy that! It's a great low-impact workout!

For now it sounds like you're doing awesome on the weight loss front. I wouldn't worry too much about more aerobic exercise as you do jogging/cross trainer and rowing. Just do what you feel is challenging to you as long as it isn't making you feel like you can't breath. Pushing yourself too hard can do more harm than good, finding a balance is important. :) If you feel like you aren't being challenged enough with your aerobics then maybe stepping it up would be a good idea. I know it can be boring - what I do while on the treadmill is either watch TV, a movie, or read. If you still find that boring or you can't do any of those things you can get some great aerobic exercise by doing some aerobic dancing. It's a lot of fun and not at all boring (at least not to me).

For me the key is to find exercise that I enjoy. If it feels too much like a big chore then I know I won't stick with it long. Find what you like and that's what is going to work for you. :)

It's now almost 4 in the morning here... I better get to bed. Talk to you later! :D And congrats again on the weight loss! You're doing awesome!

Thanks Stacy, yes hun get some sleep...night owl indeed!

Yeah I'm thinking I'd love to do a team sport, you know, that way you have an in-built social life too and you'd be letting people down if you didn't turn up. I just don't know what sport I'd want to play, and would feel too embarrassed at the moment as I'm sure they take it quite seriously. I'll keep an eye out for any adverts or anything and in the mean time, perhaps I could take one of the dance classes at my gym. I just need to get over the embarrassment factor...plus, I have less than no co-ordination haha.

At the moment, I quite enjoy the gym and the classes I do (my friends come with me) so I'll stick with what I know, but as I get fitter and slimmer maybe I'll get braver. Pip...coming to a sports team near you hahahaha x

You might try Volley Ball once you get to the point where you feel a little more comfortable and fit. Volley Ball requites quick spurts of energy and isn't quite as intense as some others sports in which you are moving non-stop.

We don't really do volleyball this side of the pond. But thanks for the suggestion!! I'm sure I'll think of something, if not, I have access to tennis courts and adore tennis, so maybe I'll have a few games with some friends in the near future. For me, it's one thing to go to the gym, where people sorta will you on to sweat and being in the great outdoors with the public, getting sweaty. I'm making no sense, but there's a point in there possibly hehe x

Hi Pip, I'm just like you with the zero coordination. We've got a WII and the Just Dance game. My daughter thinks it's hilarious when I do it.:) I can do hands and feet but not both. It totally puts me off of doing a dance class which would be a fun way of exercising.
You seem to be doing a nice mixture of exercising so shouldn't get bored.
I told my son that somebody had nicknamed me Yoda and he called me it all day :D

Hahahahaha, that's amazing!!! Well, you're stuck with it now Yoda. I think at the moment, I'm at Jedi level but that's my knowledge of starwars exhausted hehe.

Yes I think I'll stay clear of dance classes for now. Don't want to cause myself an injury, or anyone else as is more likely. Funnily enough I dance well in a night club, but when a routine is involved, it's like my limbs aren't linked to my brain.

How are you doing with your weight loss, you're so near goal, you must be thrilled x

My weight loss has slowed up to virtually nothing over the last month or so but I am concentrating more on getting fit now. I don't look too bad but have a bit too much fat on my stomach still but I think it will eventually go. I have started running and absolutely love it as it was something that I have never done in my life and never expected to start in my 50s. :)

Well I started losing weight because of a desire to run. I'm moving to London next September and realise I will be totally poor. So the idea was, instead of having a gym membership etc, I would jog in Regent's Park. The first time I ran, about a month ago, I could only manage 5mins, which at 22yrs old is pretty shocking. But, over time I've built it up to 15mins non stop. I reckon once I can do 20mins without stopping, I can officially be called a runner hahahaha. I'm terribly slow, but speed comes with time, and weight loss I would imagine.

Well done on your loss, so what if it's slowed down. You'll be putting muscle on and that tummy will disappear with no effort to lose weight. Congratulations x

I think you're probably at Padawan level, most of us are. Once you reach goal weight you'll be a Jedi! heheh :) :hurray: Once you get to the point where you can help train others you'll be a Jedi Master! lol That's what I'm shooting for. David Smith lost 400 lbs in 4 years and is now a personal trainer! He started out at 630 lbs and is now fit and training others! Talking about going from Padawan to Jedi Master! Amazing!
