On my way to 63kgs

Just got back from the gym. My daughter came with me. She tried to get out of it by saying that she had a headache but I told her that exercise will do it good :)
I ran for 3.1 kms without stopping which is a personal record.:D I didn't plan on doing that much but didn't even have a twinge out of my knee so carried on. I could have done more but didn't want to risk my knee starting to hurt so stopped once I beat my record. I feel so great now. :)
I'm doing a bit more with the machines. The leg ones are ok but I really struggle with the arm ones so I'm taking them very slow.

Very impressive. You're motivating me to work hard today! :)

Did your daughter actually feel better after she went? I'm sure she did, but I'm curious anyway. :)

I'm so happy for you. I know what you mean about feeling great. Sometimes you can feel so worn out but also as if your entire body has come vibrantly alive. The body and the mind like the challenge, I think. :)

You have already caught up by the sounds of it. I think we will both be running that 5k by the end of summer and then we can officially join Jjjay at being runny. :)

No...far from it. I can't run for more than a couple of minutes at a time still. But I repeat the run walk as much as I can hoping to build my running stamina. If it doesnt pour here tonite, I'm going to go running again :)

Sometimes we need a little push to get motivated. Specially when it comes to our kids! lol ;)

Nice 3.1 km run! WITHOUT STOPPING !!!!!! WOW! Fantastic Eycky!!!

Keep it up ....you'll be running off that island soon! lol

Her head ache went completely and she felt much better afterwards and pleased that she had done it and now she wants to come again tomorrow. I think that for her the thought of doing it is actually worse than doing it.
My body and mind definitely like a challenge. I really enjoy beating my own records but I'm not a bit competitive with other people and am really happy for anybody that can do more than me and really inspired to do better. I love to be able to come here and write my achievements down as I get such great response and encouragement from people that understand what a difference it is to go from couch potato to somebody that loves to run :)

Are you sure that you aren't running too fast? When I put the treadmill on too fast I can only do a few minutes and the same happened with my husband yesterday. He put the speed at 11 kms an hour and could only manage a few minutes and he's quite sporty.

Hi eyckmans, I have been meaning to catch up with yours & Stacy's diaries & decided it was about time. There are so many detours on this forum & it's great to know that there are so many people out there with similar aims, similar problems & almost all with the desire to improve their health & fitness. You are going great guns. All this talk of running is inspiring me. I love my walking but I can feel the urge to run coming on. At 57 I'm a little bit scared, but only a little bit... Catch up again soon, xo Cate

Hi ya, Val! Looks like your gym workouts are going great! Keep breaking your own records! :D I totally get what you mean by that now! The hotel where I'm at for the next three days has a really great fitness center with some good equiptment. I worked out for an hour and kept track of how far I went on the treadmill, and how fast I went. As soon as I was done, dripping sweat, high on endorphins, and the only thing I could think of was "I can't wait to get back in here tomorrow to see how much farther I can push myself!". That to me nearly had me laughing with joy - I was like WHAO! I'm catching the fitnes bug! lol

Oh - So guess what? I'm writing you from HOLLYWOOD! lol I can't believe I'm sitting in Hollywood, this like so cool/weird. heheh. People around here are pretty nuts, but it's a lot of fun.

Anyway, I just wanted to pop on and give you a digital hug. *hug*

You're one of my favorite inspirations!

Hi Cate, nice to see you here :)
Give running a try. I love it. I'm 53 so not far behind you. Just make sure that you start off slowly and stop as soon as anything starts to hurt. I've never in my life been sporty so it's never too late. Have fun :D

Hi Stacy, I am so jealous. As I just said in your thread I have been 3 times to Orlando which I love but we had decided that next time we go to the USA we would do Las Vegas and California and obviously Hollywood is on our list of places to visit. My sister and her family who usually go on holiday with my family are going in November and I'm really sad that I can't go with them. I now have my dad living with us so we can't go on holiday together any more as when I go she has to stay at my house to look after Dad.
I'm glad that you are getting the exercise high :) It's such a great feeling especially after being a couch potato for a large part of my life. I really get excited about going to the gym. I can't leave my dad for too long at a time so I get really frustrated if I have to do other things out of the home and then can't get to the gym. It doesn't happen often as my daughter is very good about looking after her grandad.
:hug2: Hugs back to you and have a wonderful time and tell us a bit about what you are doing :)

Woohoo, I ran 3.5 kms today beating my previous record of 3.1
My daughter came with me even though she has arranged to go again later with her friend. The air con was broken so it was extremely hot and we came out of there looking like we'd just got out of the shower and had to drink over a litre of water afterwards.
I should have our little pool up by the weekend so it will be nice to come back and relax in there after a workout.

I know right!? I can't believe I'm one o those people who actually enjoys working out! W00T! :D First I find out I don't like cupcakes anymore and now I am becoming an exercise addict, what's going on with me? LOL

I'll see if I can post some pictures in my diary once I get back. I'll keep you guys posted. Now we're off to go try a Raw Food reseraunt. I've never had an entire meal made of raw food before.

Oh my gosh! Congratulations!! :hurray::hurray::hurray: 3.5 kms is great progress! I hope that I can eventually be able to run that far! My goal is to be able to run a 5k... but that will probably take a few years to get to that point where my body can do that.

NO AC? Oh my! That sucks, hopefully they get that fixed soon.

I'm totally jealous about the pool! That would be NICE! Have fun! :D

WOOOOOOOOO

3.5km!!! I'm so excited for you!!!

Seriously, once you are running these kinds of distances without stopping....5km...10km...hills...rain...whatever...you'll be able to do it, just a matter of building up to it. A big thing for me once I was regularly running 5km was all the hills in my town - I knew I could do 5km on the flat, just round and round the park outside my house but it was getting boring!! So one day I just went "sod it" and ran into town, up the massive hill (hill hill hill for at least 1-2km) back down again and home. Sure, it was tough, but I didn't consider stopping at any point. I guess my point is, from here on in, its how you decide to train and what to work on...increasing by 0.5km every few runs, running fast and slow pace alternated, running in the heat or a hilly route, or just keeping on running your route until your body just goes "yep, no problem...another run...". Anyhows, HUGE HUGE HUGE achivement Val - and from your diary, looks like YOU are the INSPIRATION for others to consider starting to run :)

Big runny HUGZ from me!

He didn't really have a goal as he didn't even realize that he was eating much lower calories but he is enjoying the weight loss so far and is going much easier on what he eats at work which on a typical day could include a packet of donuts, a family pack of crisps, and a couple of bars of choclate. He is very fit. He doesn't drive so he walks everywhere and he plays padel at least 4 times a week.

Isn't it great to have a partner who doesn't just sit around watching TV? :)

My latest beau's got some extra fat but he's fit, plays rugby, always on the move, 64" tall and six years younger than me. I have to stay fit to keep up with him :). And we don't have a TV ;)

The knee seems fine this morning. It was my fault that I hurt it before as I knew that I was overdoing it but just wanted to get to 3 1/2 without stopping.

You did it later though :) Quite brilliant. I'm still nervous of running on osteoarthritic knees at my current weight, but may try it out when I'm closer to goal.

I am constantly amazed that I actually enjoy exercise and healthy eating more than I did being lazy and eating badly. That raw food restaurant sounds great.
Looking forward to the photos. :)

That's my goal as well although I can't see me stopping there :)

I'm really looking forward to the autumn when I can go back outdoors. Where I live it is all up and down hills, some of them very steep so it will be quite a challenge.

My husband has always been a bit overweight but very active so now that I am feeding him healthier meals the weight is dropping off him with no effort at all on his part.

I went out on a girls night out last night to an Irish bar that plays live music. We walked there and back which was about 3 miles each way. We had a great night and were there until 3.30 in the morning. I actually got chatted up for the first time in years. When we go out usually the men make a bee line for my blonde vivacious friend so I was quite surprised when he sat down next to me and started flirting. My daughter thought that it was hilarious as she could see how uncomfortable I was. It was a good ego boost though. :)
I drank diet coke all night but on the way home wrecked it as my friends were hungry so I ate half a chicken baguette and some of my friends chips. First of all I said that I didn't want anything and then I thought what the hell I don't get out often.
I'm not going to the gym today as I think my legs need a rest but have arranged to go down to the sea with some friends. We'll float around and chat for a couple of hours but keep kicking and exercising the whole time.
I mentioned in another thread that I never have an afternoon nap now but this afternoon will be the exception. 4 hours sleep is not enough!!!!!
Eta. Just got back from our swim. I cut my foot in the water on what I thought was a sharp rock but turned out to be a metal bed that somebody had thrown into the water. It's a beautiful rocky bay and I can't imagine what sort of idiot had put it there. It hurt at the time and then I forgot about it but when I got out of the water an hour and a half later it was still bleeding and is quite deep. Anyway I've got it all disinfected and covered up but will be really annoyed if it stops me running tomorrow.
I've decided that as I actually ate the baguette at 4 oclock this morning I have counted it as today's allowance so it won't matter that I ate it. I'll just have to go careful for the rest of the day. :)

You're very right! Eating healthier and exercising is LOADS more enjoyable than when I used to eat more junk and not exercise much. I actually get a strange kind of "high" from the healthy food and I REALLY feel it after I work out! I feel SO GOOD!

Good to hear you enjoyed a bit of the craic :) And also for enjoying the chicken baguette and chips as I think our metabolisms need a bit of a shock now and again in order to get them into gear.

Do take a really careful look at your wound this morning and go straight to a doc at the slightest sign of infection. I'm sure you already know that, but I'm fussing anyway :)

I've been so self-conscious about my weight for years that I haven't socialised at all. Beau is encouraging me to and I will when I feel comfortable about it. One of the worst things about being very overweight is that you can lose two or three stone before friends notice you've lost anything at all. The first time anyone chats me up in public again will be a milestone :)

It sure sounds like you are doing awesome Eycky! Hope your foot heals fast. I had a blister on my toe from a new pair of heels that I wore to work yesterday, and when I ran I must have been kind of favoring that foot and it made my stride uneven. Today one leg is a lot more sore than the other one and hurts in weird places. Just be careful if you decide to run with a cut that you don't stress out the good foot by babying the bad one too much.

Oh yeah, I hear you!! I felt invisible socially for years and would walk down the street feeling like men just didn't even register that I existed. It doesn't take long though...the smiles, winks, eyes across a crowded room - more to do with HOW you feel about yourself and project yourself as happy and confident :)

Val, I hope your foot it ok - do get it checked out - are you up to date with your tetanus injection? Rusty old metal bed does not sound healthy!!

Thanks for everybodies concern over the foot. I just had a look and it looks and feels fine :)
I know that feeling of being invisible Jjjay even amongst women. I agree though that it is more to do with confidence than anything else.
Amazing how the attention of a drunk can do your ego good. I suppose it's the fact that before nobody was ever drunk enough to pay attention to me :)

LOL! Don't men wear beer goggles where you're from? Or is that only in my small town? Sometimes it never ceases to amaze me who ends up with who at the end of a night out at the local bar. Bad thing is that in a small town, everyone knows and talks about it!
