Omega's journey

YOU TRULY ARE A WEIGHT LOSS GODDESS!!!!!!

Great job on reaching 150lb Margaret. You are very inspirational to me. I don't know you other than, from WLF and I am very proud of your lifestyle change and its results. So every time I think to myself, (oh, I still got 39lb to go) I will think of you and your achievement. It is true, slow and steady wins the race. Not that your weight loss has been slow, not by far. From what I can see of your diary, you have been very consistent and that is part of your success.

Thank you for sharing your journey, it has helped me to stay on my path to health.

GO BLUE!!!!

Conrats on another new low!

I'm surprised that your calories were so low in general. With as much walking as you do, I would think you could get away with eating more than that. I thought your calories were averaging more like 1800 a day.

Good to see you're getting all your vitamins and minerals. :)

Thanks for the congratulations.

I'm sure that my calories were averaging at that when I worked it out a while back. As you know - I hardly ever work them out. The last time that I did was when you made me work them out across a week for the challenge in February just after I changed my food plan. I have just checked and the result then was:

Calorie range for week 7: 11,340 to 12,340
Min average daily calories = 1620
Fri=1554,Sat=1656,Sun=1603, Mon=1664, Tues=1635, Wed=1659, Thurs=1584 TOTAL= 11,355 This is within the range.

I know that I went into that week weighing 162 pounds and since I did not know how many calories I had been having (and was changing things about anyway) I basically came up with the notion of 10 times weight being a reasonable multiplier a year into a weight loss project. They always say about the rule of thumb multiplier being between 8 and 12.

I found it really interesting to see that I had naturally brought things down as my weight had dropped whilst still getting a pretty good level of nutrients. I found that quite encouraging.

In fact - I notice that - if I remove Rod's birthday from the equation - and average of the other six days is 1459. Since my weight varied between 147.6 and 143 during the week - I could hardly have thought of a better amount of calories to shoot for if still aiming for a 10 times weight multiple.

Also - my protein level was pretty much on target!

I do a lot of walking - but I suppose my PCOS works against me. Across the last challenge I got a rate that averaged 1.5 pounds a week - and I am happy with that - but I wouldnt be too pleased for it to drop so that I can have more calories or walk less. Indeed - I am not too keen on the notion of monitoring my calories on an ongoing basis so that I can tinker with them.

I find it interesting how much food that I can eat and come in on those calories while hitting all the nutrient levels.

Kelly
Thanks. I'm pleased that you liked the photos.

Hi Becky

Thanks for the congratulations on the 150 pounds milestone. I just love milestones and I am hitting some great ones at the minute.

My BMI is getting really close to normal now. Today's weight of 10st1.8 i.e. 141.8 pounds gives a BMI of 25.1. It seems so strange to think that soon I will not even be classed as overweight.

Take care

Margaret

I'm sure that by the time we meet up, you'll no longer be considered overweight. :hurray:

I worry that even with the PCOS considered, your cals are rather low for all the exercise that you do--maybe not atm with the restrictions, but once you start your classes again, and get back to your normal walking pace, I think an increase in cals is a good idea. I'd just hate to see you plateau and have no where to go. :)

Oh, and I think it was in my diary where you said there was no way you could walk 40 miles on one day--well, I disagree. :D Once you are fully recovered from your surgery, I would bet a lot of money that you could. You already walk about a third of that every day. :)

And is that another new low I detect? Wow! You are nearly to 155lbs lost!! Incredible! That's all I can say. You truly are amazing. :hug2:

Thanks for visiting.

Thanks for your congratulations on my new low. I like this part of the month when I get any new lows that I am going to get.

If I know the way my body loses and then goes into gain mode I have plenty of time to become normal and go back to being overweight by the time we meet up. I am always aware of the way that I retain water. Thank goodness I see a trend whereby I get weightloss though - I cannot complain too much.

I dont see me doing any more classes until September now - since I miss the whole of this term and then the adult education centre will be closed over the summer. Rest assured - I will recalculate calories (much as I hate to do so) and either increase the calories or decrease my walking when I bring my aerobics back in. I have no wish to get stuck on a plateau if I can help it.

My collarbone is quite visible and bony these days - and there are so many variables (the situation with my boobs, loose skin on my tummy) it really is hard to work out how far away from goal I am. I will know when I get there because I want my wedding ring to fit me (it doesnt yet - although I can get it just to the right side of the knuckle now). I also have four skirts from my youth that I would really love to be able to get into - unfashionable as I know they would be. I might be nearer to my goal than my ticker would imply. It is a worst case scenario because I felt comfortable at that weight when I was young (but I didnt have bits of me that needed to be chopped off then!)

I really am not sure that I could walk 40 miles in one day. For one thing - I need my sleep too much. I could do it spread over a number of days - certainly over four days. I could maybe cope with 80 miles spread over a week - but I really think that I couldnt do it. You have beaten me in a walking contest!

Kelly
I tend to celebrate my milestones by simply dropping them into every conversation that I have - either physically in person or virtually over the forum. I dont promise myself a new outfit or a special night out or anything associated with hitting a milestone. I can get plenty of pleasure in hitting the milestone itself - it's achievement alone is more than enough reward for me.

Take care
Love
Margaret

I have little doubt you will be into the 130s by the time we meet, so no talk of you being "overweight" again...lol

Even if you won't wear those old skirts out in public, it will be very satisfying just to know that you could wear them if you wanted to. :D

I still think you could do the 40 miles--you needn't walk for 24hrs to do it. If you did a 3mph pace, it would only take a little over 13hrs to walk it. :)

I will really need to lose quite a lot of weight in the next week or so for me to not drift back up into the 140s next month. Obviously I would prefer to be down for good - but I know what I am like. It seems too much to hope for about 5 pounds loss from here to have a chance of that. If only I can be good with my honey shreddies - it will help.

The fact that I really liked the skirts when I was young is obvious by the fact that I didnt part with them when I parted with so many of my clothes. If I can lose the weight and get into them I will know that I dont need to lose any more weight. The good thing about using skirts is that my boobs have no impact. Then all that I need to do is hope that the skirts come back into fashion and I am sorted!

The really funny thing is that when I was checking clothes at my parents house I found some others from when I was in my early twenties - that had just gone into boxes and kept by accident. Among them were two playsuits (i.e. all-in-one outfits that consist of shorts and a shirt - that you put on like overalls). I could just squeeze into them (weighing 155) - but they looked very very very tight and very young for a woman my age. It was fun - like a child playing at dressing up. Anyway - I was looking into our local paper and they said that playsuits were top fashion this summer. They had photos of models wearing three playsuits - and one (being sold on the highstreets for £50) looked identical to one of mine. They made a thing of this one having a vibrant colour - the funny thing is that mine is red. If I lose a little more weight I have the perfect thing to be mutton dressed as lamb in later this summer. I have just tried on again and the red one is still too tight!

It is true what they say about fashions coming round again!

You havent convinced my on my ability to do the 40 miles. We will just have to agree to disagree.

Wowwwwwwwwwww Margaret. I would absolutely love to see a photo of these skirts and playsuits of yours..and you dont even need to be in them. But how retro! Circa what are we talking here? 1980's? That's when I recall those outfits, we called them "jumpsuits" back then. Anyway, you will be STYLIN this summer in that red suit!! I have no doubt you'll be wearing it before August.

Guess the vibrant colors are certainly back in style, I just bought myself a pair of cute flats (with such comfortable rubber soles that are compact so they still look dainty) in a bright yellow color. I wore them yesterday on the train (what we call the subway here) and I looked around at the hundreds of feet and noted I was the only one wearing bright colored shoes, while everyone else had on the usual black, brown or creme. I felt very high fashion knowing I was the only one HAHA.

They were from the early 80s. Next time I play dressing up in the jumpsuits I will get Rod to take a photo and will PM it to you because it will certainly still be too tight to wear properly so I wont put it on the forum as such.

The skirts are in Newcastle and were too tight to even try to put on when I last tried.

I remember I had some great yellow sandals and clutch bag in my youth that I definitely sent to the charity shops 8 years ago as I got rid of loads of the yellow clothes. I really regret parting with tons of stuff then (we were moving house). If I had known that I would get down to this size I would have kept them just in case.

Margaret it certainly sounds to me like you will very well be into your old clothes before you know it.
Unfortunately for me none of my things were ever in fashion to start with for it to be "cool" to wear again! LOL
To many t-shirts and jeans I guess.
I am just having alot of fun buying new smaller fashionable styles now.
I love the thought of wearing bright colors but in reality it would scare the tar right outta me being that "out there".
Ciao

I fully intend to be into my old clothes if I can. Why let things like maturity and current fashions not being what they were in the late 70s / early 80s get in the way! There will be enough problems with getting my boobs and other loose skin sorted!

Then we just have to wait for rah-rah skirts to come back in! I have some of those too! (Found in the boxes in Newcastle).

I have to say that they are not the skirts that I am really solidly hoping to get into - but if I can get into the others I should be able to do the rah-rah skirts.

Bright colours never phased me in my youth so if I get my figure back I will have no problem with them. If I am locally classed as an eccentric walking lady now - just wait until I am the one that is stuck in a time-warp.

It doesnt matter how odd it is - if it is quirky enough to motivate ourselves it is worth going for. We are moving mountains here - we need every incentive we can get.

Dont get me started on the lovely tshirts and jeans that I had that I gave away to the charity shop.......

Not sure exactly what a rah-rah skirt is. In my imagination I think it must be very similiar to a cheerleaders skirt. Short with lots of large pleats.

LOL
I can see you now! Walking in bright colored shoes, with bright colored jumpers and rah rah skirts. You will certainly fit the eccentric catagory that way.
But who cares! You will most certainly have earned it.

Watch out Harper's Bizarre here comes M!
We'll be looking for you in between the pages.

Short and more gathered than pleated - generally a two tiered thing - where you get more gathers half way down. Fashionable in England about 1982. Probably an English take on what people thought that American cheerleeder wore - which is not necessarily the same thing!

Anyway - I have some in Newcastle. All I need is the figure and them to be back in fashion!

Hi Margaret :)

Loving the posts abt the ra-ra skirts! I think they were fashionable here a couple of seasons ago :D wait a few months and then they'll be back again! You will have such a fun time dressing up in your old clothes! And you will def be able to wear loads of them and feel really fashionable cos all the influences are coming from the 70s and 80s at the mo:hurray:

Im so jealous! Have fun dressing up!!

Apparently the 80s fashions have come back. However, when I'm at the store, they all look very 70s to me--especially the tops. How's your 70s collection? :D

Either way, imo, they are preferable to the baby doll tops popular right now that make you look pregnant..lol. Certainly after one has lost as much weight as you have, you would want to show off that new figure. :)

Thanks for visiting.

Allie
I certainly have to lose some more weight to get into the rah-rah skirts. I am certainly not going to allow any of my very old clothes to be discarded now. I want to get into them.

Kimberly
I suspect that a lot of 70s stuff went to charity shops years ago. My mother's house is so big that it is always possible that there will be more boxes of clothes there somewhere. There should be as she swears blind that she never sent anything that I knitted to a charity shop and I know that I didnt. There should be some 70s knitted stuff somewhere that I distinctly remember knitting and wearing.

If clothes that make you look pregnant are fashionable - you will look so fashion-conscious if you get pregnant - not that you need that kind of added incentive.

Take care
Love
Margaret
