Omega's journey

Tuesday 29/04/08

Ate far too many honey shreddies. I just couldnt take control and kept going back for more. In addition - too much protein. I had more pork loin steaks than I should have had too. They were healthy food - but I know that it would be far too many calories. Not a great day from a food perspective.

Sorry team!

Hi Claudia

It is tricky at times trying not to nibble your way through tons of food - just because it is there and tastes nice. Nothing to do with hunger! I had a bad day Tuesday - much better yesterday. Who knows how today will pan out!

Some days I just cannot keep a lid on things.

I was really pleased that I managed to do so Wednesday - because I managed to get a new low today (10st5.6 or 145.6 pounds).

I am currently feeling astonishingly well thanks! I really feel great and full of energy. It is quite annoying that I have so many limitations on what I can do - as I feel like I could do anything and have to keep reminding myself that I have strict instructions regarding my stitches. They warned me up front that hernias have a tendency to repeat - in other words it is a bit like a repaired air-bed. There is an inherent weakness at a point and that weak point could tear in the future. Since I really dont fancy being opened up too often - I definitely have something to gain by giving things a chance to properly heal. I am walking - but doing absolutely nothing else!

Take care
Love
Margaret

Glad to hear you're mending well and that YOU HIT A NEW LOW! How exciting for you :). And for the bulge update, hopefully it is decreasing as we speak?

Thanks for your congratulations. I must admit that the new low is perfect timing as today is a challenge weighing day - so today's weight counts and has been filled in on the scoresheet already. It is my first new low since 13th April.

The bulge is funny! I must admit that both Rod and I would have expected the bulge to look more "normal" by now than it does. It is one thing that I plan on raising with my GP when I see her tomorrow. Neither of us can believe that they would have opened me up, untangled my bowel, sorted out the hernia and left the bowel in the wrong place. Maybe it is waiting for some fat to disappear so that it sits right in its proper place (as I still have a definite spare tyre of fat) - or maybe there is still some swelling that makes it difficult to see exactly what is happening. As it is my waist is still a funny shape.

Margaret,
How are you feeling in general? Does the area cause any discomfort still? You have had one heck of a comeback...congrats on the new low!!!!! After a day like today, I needed to see your ticker saying you lost 148 pounds, it's so...comforting to know that it IS possible.
On one of the threads, you asked me why I took Flax Oil...I take it because my mom keeps mentioning what fabulous things it does for the cardiovascular and immune system. But beyond that, I'm clueless...any advice?

Hi Carrie

I am honestly feeling better than anyone would expect that I would be feeling. I get absolutely no discomfort from my stitches (except an occasional mild itchiness that I put down to the feel of things healing) and have to keep reminding myself not to do anything that could affect my stitches. It is easy to forget that it happened and want to jump or kick my height or something. I should explain that since my weightloss got really underway - I feel so light and bouncy - I sometimes describe myself as a human jumping bean. I am like Tigger in the cartoons! I just want to bounce about.

I spent many years not believing that this level of weightloss was truly possible especially for people like me. The fact is that it is if you work really hard. You have to stay focused though. It is all too easy to give in to temptation. On Tuesday I did not have a good day foodwise - but yesterday I got my act together again. Stay focused and eat healthily and in a controlled way and do lots of regular exercise and it will happen for you too.

I must admit that whenever I see myself undressed in a full length mirror - I find that my size is a surprise for me. Also whenever I am in a shop and try on clothes - I keep thinking that things look like childrens clothes when I see them on the hanger and then being amazed when they fit around me!

As far as I am aware Flax Oil basically is like a substitute for Omega-3 fish oils that vegetarians opt for that are unwilling to have something derived from fish. I have been led to understand that the flax oil is not quite as good as the Omega-3 fish oil. If I were you - I would continue with the flax oil that you have until you run out of your current supplies. When you replace - try Omega-3 fish oil instead.

Take care

Hi Kotki

Thanks for visiting. I do hope that the bulge sorts itself out as I am sick of being an odd shape. I imagine that your Nan was less than impressed at a funny shape! I will see what my GP says when I see her tomorrow.

You have set yourself a difficult target - to be a size 8!!! I will be happy if I can fit comfortably into size 12.

Take care

yes she wasnt to pleased with the weird shape but she was glad the hurnia was gone as it was starting to come out of her belly button!
i know my targets going to be hard to reach but its a dream i would love to be a size 8 and share clothes with my cousins and friends!

Congrats on the new low of 145.6!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently the shreddies did no damage. :D

That is odd the bulge has not disappeared, but it could be swelling still. I'm sure that takes some time to subside. It is great news that you are recovering so well from your surgery. My cousin had rotator cuff surgery a week ago, and she is still in a lot of pain, and very limited in what she can do--just going to the bathroom or getting dressed takes forever b/c she only has one good arm.

Best of luck for another new low tomorrow!! :)

because I managed to get a new low today (10st5.6 or 145.6 pounds).

Wow, congratulations!!! You are totally rockin it.

After reading some of your posts, you seem to let NOTHING get in your way. I dunno if you get tired of hearing this, but I can't tell you how inspiring you are.

Thanks for visiting.

Kotki
My hernia was just the same way in that my bowel got right under my tummy button and it was very painful because it was all tangled up in there. I can well understand that she would be pleased that the hernia was sorted out because I am too - it was very painful. I have no pain - but before surgery I was glad of the morphine injection.

I can understand your wish to be the same size as your cousins and friends - but just as it would have been unhealthy for them to gain weight to be your size if that were suddenly fashionable - you have to be sure that you are wanting to have a healthy shape at the end of your project. Do not try to become too thin as that is just as unhealthy too.

Just because you care for people - it doesnt mean that they have a healthy shape that we should aspire towards. They care for you but would be better not to aspire towards your shape.

It can be a good idea to set up a ticker with your start weight and goal weight. You can put BMI on it - which basically attributes a number to your shape. A healthy BMI is between 20 and 25.

On the forum you will see a lot of people say that they want a size 8 figure - but you should remember that they are generally talking American clothes sizes which are different from ours.

Kimberly
Thanks for your congratulations for hitting a new low. I was pretty good Thursday - but I doubt from my initial weighing that I will get lower again than yesterday after my walk.

I will see what the quack has to say about the bulge.

I am sorry to hear that your cousin is in so much pain. I hope that it eases soon for her. I generally have a high pain threshold (which is why it really phased Rod when I was asking for morphine before the op after I had other intravenous painkillers).

I think that good things that I have done is move as much as I could pretty much straight away and look into homeopathic remedies.

The bottom line is that I have been really really lucky - because if the pain level is too high you cannot get moving in the first place.

Take care

Hi Kelly

Things went as well as I could hope for at the doctors.

She was pleased with how everything is healing up.
She said that the bulge looks like she would have anticipated this long after surgery and I should wait and see how things settle down.
She said that she is willing to put me forward for a boob job on the NHS - but she wants me to heal for one to two months before she refers me.
She said that there is no chance of me getting a tummy tuck on the NHS - but if she were me she would seriously consider paying to get one done privately. She was the one who first raised the subject of a tummy tuck. She has had patients pay 10K for one done in London and she has had one patient pay 4K for one done in Vancouver and she said that even with flights and hotel / nursing home fees that patient was able to make quite a saving.

Interestingly, although I cannot complain about the treatment that I had when I had my op because all the staff were really nice and when it got urgent I had immediate treatment, there are definite flaws in the system.

She still has not been notified of the results of the ultrasound scan that I had nearly three weeks ago. I told her what had happened and what the person who did the test told me.

She still has not been notified that I have had an operation. The first that she heard was when I made the appointment to see her I chatted to the receptionist. I told the receptionist about the operation and the receptionist had told the doctor in passing. Before leaving hospital - I had asked them about the process for notifying my GP and was told that they would inform her. I checked that they had her name and address right. I took my hospital release letter with me to the appointment and she made notes from that.

Take care

glad it all went well and that she thinks you are making progress! good news on being put forward for the boob job! :)

Thanks Kelly. My boobs are my worst bit. The started off really big and when I lost weight they simply turned into two big huge bags with next to no contents. There is nothing to do but bundle them all up into big bra cups. I have such a lot of skin bundled up there that my bra size is now 36J. I have known for some time that they just were never going to reduce in a normal manner.

poor you i can see why you want the boob job now! how does it affect your back? a similar thing happened to my mum when she went from 21stone to 11stone she just has skin hanging everywhere, she also had what we called wings underneath her arms and she managed to have those removed on the nhs!

That is good news that things are healing as they should. :hurray:

Strange that your gp was not notified of your surgery. I know my parents and gran's docs always here about everything tout de suit. I guess that is one good thing about our system.

Fantastic news about the boob job!! :hurray: I'm sure that will be most welcome. You might be able to buy bras from normal shops--even Tescos?? :biggrinjester:

I would say that you could definitely save money by going to Canada for the tummy tuck surgery. I can't imagine that plane tickets etc would run more than 6k pounds. :D I wonder how much it would cost in the U.S. We have very good hospitals here where I live, and you could stay with me while you recovered. I'd be your personal nurse, and I'd even don my naughty nurse uniform on Wednesdays.

Well done hitting another new low today. :hurray: I was hoping for a better loss for myself, but it didn't happen. :cuss:
