Omega's journey

Howdy, Margaret
I hadn't realized that you'd been so tiny prior to the onset of evil PCOS. What changes you have gone thru over the last couple of decades! I am SO HAPPY that you are winning this war!

Just want to encourage you to post another pic so we can see what you look like as you shrink.

:grouphug:

Hi Janice

Yes - pre-PCOS I did not really have a weight problem in the way that suddenly happened.

I will get round to posting a new photo soon. Here are some ones from my youth to be going on with.

Take care

Margaret

Look at you all young and skinny, Miss Thang! :biggrinjester: You'll be there again, I know it. :)

Thank you for the compliaments re my challenges. I think I've got the next one sussed out. Just a few minor details to work out. :)

Thanks Kimberly.

It really does remove any doubt that I have a large or medium frame and can get away with a weight at the upper end or middle of the BMI and really convince myself that the task is complete.

Janice and Tammy will both be able to be at the perfect size for their frame at a much higher weight. That is why we are similar heights and BMIs but I am so much further away from goal than them. It isnt like I have anorexic ambitions or anything!

My face is beginning to look more like people would imagine the young me would age into. It sounds a strange idea - but the excessive weight had made my face change shape so dramatically that I looked like a different person entirely.

I will get a new photo taken soon and will put it in my diary when I do. I asked hubby if he wanted to do it last night - but he said that he was too busy.

I am sure that a lot of people are eagerly awaiting your new challenge. You are very good at coming up with really good challenges.

Take care
Love
Margaret

What!? No exercise/food/weight update?? Come on now, no slacking. :D

I'm looking forward to new pics. And I don't think you're shooting for too low a weight. If you are small framed, being under 130 isn't too thin. I have a small framed friend who's 5'5" and her ideal weight is around 115-120.

Happy TLD. :D

Managed to get my new (UK size 14) jogging pants taken up. My pedometer works better with them (I was losing steps galore) and they are more comfortable – but they are not so baggy so my tummy looks bigger in them.

Hey there - just wanted to drop in and take a peak at you.Im still impressed with your every morning 6 mile walk and your exercise calsses:):):)Your a great example/role modle for older wmn and being healthy...I think it is great!!!

I hd no problem with the strength training sesisons challenege either as I do a fair amount of Yoga adn also switch it up with weights and the ball and resistance bands:)

The sodium challenge scares me - Im gonna have to learn how to read it and monitor it ... reacord it and all that jazz but it is good for me.Sodium was the next thing on my list to be more aware of and tackle...im not ready to go yet - so hopefully I will make it to the next round..

Hope you ahve a great day and good luck with weight in and moving on to the next phase:)

Thanks for the updates. :D I'm glad to see your weight is going down again. Was it the salmon?? :sifone:

I have to admire your consistancy and determination. You do so well with your food and exercise. I'm sure I could not be that good. Well done! :cheers2:

Thanks for visiting.

You are saying some very kind things - but I often think that I am more of an example of how not to do things. You have no idea how often I wish that I had seen a way to deal with the morbid obesity thing when I was in my twenties or thirties. The fact that I never managed it and am only getting somewhere with it at 48 really gets to me. Make sure that you learn from my mistakes and get your weight sorted out while you are young. Stick with it. I often think that so many things could have gone differently or better if I had dealt with it some years ago.

The reason I do so much exercise is that I really want to get it sorted out this time around. I know that the PCOS works against me and I have to try extra hard just to get anywhere. Life isnt always fair - all that we can do is deal with the hand that we get dealt.

I think that I have hit really lucky with sodium. I had never really thought much about sodium but do tend to stick to a very monotonous balanced diet -I eat almost the same thing every day but have got used to it and am quite happy with it. I have been working through all my food and it all seems to be ok so far. It kind of means that I can eat what I was going to eat anyway and get my bonus points just by adding up the numbers and not changing a thing.

Some of the newbies may be able to guarantee a weight loss by virtue of the fact that they stuck to a diet - but all of us that are deep into a long term project need some luck at the scales. We can work hard and keep firm control of our food - but the weight will not come off until it is ready to. I hope that the scales are good to you too. Do as I do - weigh both days and pick the best one.

Kimberly

I certainly think that the salmon plays a part. Can you guess who got some salmon out of the freezer when deciding what to have for dinner tonight? Hubby decided that he was going to have marinaded chicken wings - we just got some for him because there is no way that I would have that (chicken skin galore and spicy marinade tends to send my weight up). That meant that I had an open choice of food and a challenge weighing tomorrow morning. The decision of what to eat was simple.

I think that we all have to stick with things and be consistent for us to get the end result that we really want. I dont think that I will be at my goal weight for my 49th birthday this July - but I certainly intend to be at my goal weight long before my 50th birthday.

My sodium levels are going to be fine - but the calculations are going to have a hidden inaccuracy. Clearly your packaging shows xxx mg per whatever. I have been going through all the things that I eat and my packaging all has 0.x g per whatever. That means that it says 0.3 g per 100 g. It is all shown to 1 decimal place so effectively rounded to 100mg. It is simple enough to convert to the unit that I serve which may mean that I come up with 105mg per handful - but since it is based on a rounded figure there will be a hidden inaccuracy. I anticipate the daily total being well inside the maximum so do not think that it gives me a major advantage against other people.

It is easier for me to stick to a repetitive diet that have treats one day and not the next. I would just want them again the next day.

Take care

Out of interest I checked the sodium content of the chicken wings that hubby had for his meal. There were 3.045g in his chicken wings alone! That means that they were 3045mg on that plate. No wonder I have seen my weight go up if I have had anything in a spicy marinade. I havent given up eating stuff that is in a spicy marinade - but I have been timing it and anticipating a weight gain.

General Data:

Morning walk = 6.3 miles
Round the block = 6 times

For challenge - need 2 ST sessions of min 30 mins.
Did 30 minutes of ST (a mixture of pilates, sit-ups, similar - e.g. wall press-ups, exercises with weights)

Extra exercises = 30 minutes ST
Weight = 11st 9.6lbs (i.e. 163.6 pounds)
Steps = 29,119
Distance = 11.25 miles
Remembered to take normal vitamin / supplements
Continued my creaming regime – missed one bio-oil massage.
Continued ankle exercises

My Food / Drink:

For practise - decided to work out my sodium. My food is repetitive so I know that the info will be useful next week.

1 banana (1mg sodium)
3 weetabix (150mg sodium) , sweetener (0 sodium), 350 ml skimmed milk (175mg)
1 large handfuls honey Shreddies (105mg sodium)
1 large handfuls honey Shreddies (105mg sodium)
Salmon fillet (100mg sodium), 3 new potatoes (6mg sodium), sweetcorn (200mg sodium)
1 large handfuls of raisins (140mg sodium)
1 large handfuls of raisins (140mg sodium)
2 litres of cold water (well below standard)
some diet cola (trace 1mg sodium)

My water company says that the water that they deliver is well below the standard which is set by the Drinking Water Inspectorate. This standard is 200mg / litre.
Not sure how to count that next week!

I find it strange that your water has sodium in it. Is it flavored? Anyway, it doesn't matter b/c your other calories are well below 2500mg, so you can easily drink 2 litres of water and still be under. Not to worry.

How about I make a salmon eating bonus in the next challenge? :D I think you might actually cry tears of joy...lol. Well, only if I added raisins and shreddies to the mix.

Glad to see the scale going down still further. I believe you are nearly back to your low. :)

The water is not flavoured - it is plain tap water. I checked out the website for the company that pipes the water to our house. I do try to be thorough!

A quick search of the internet shows that it is there in tap water in parts of USA too:

I must eat the most predictable food on this forum!

By the way - I was being cheeky when I said about coffee. I have not drank coffee since I was about 3 years old. Avoiding it for a week would cause me no distress!

You rock Omega! And you were so pretty as a young lady that I cannot immagine that any amount of weight would take that from you!
Camy

Hmm...very interesting. We have well water, so I'm not sure how much sodium is in that. The well is in our front yard. Our water is really good--not hard, rusty or full of minerals. We don't even need a water softener. I love our water. :cheers2:

Thanks for visiting.

Camy

Thankyou for saying such a sweet thing. In reality in my youth I was more attractive than ever pretty - but I was more than happy with that. I am afraid that obesity certainly took it's toll - and the years have certainly had a major impact too. My appearance is certainly not a great asset now - but I am hoping that things can improve dramatically with a bit of a major overhawl.

Kimberly

I suspect that I will not be the only one dealing with inaccuracies when totalling my sodium for the week (I bet the majority of people assume that there is none in tap water). I nearly did that because from the years of calorie counting I got used to thinking that plain water was free and therefore that there was nothing in it.

You may be amused to hear that I mentioned to hubby this morning that he should not weigh himself for a few days because of the sodium content of his chicken wings. I told him how far over the limit they had been and he said - that explains a lot. I asked why. He said "I have been feeling thirsty today, maybe I should not have put so much salt on it before eating". Thank goodness that I buy low sodium salt for the table - even though I rarely use it for my own meal.

Take care

Hello Margaret,
I thought I'd visit your diary. You've done so brilliantly: I find the amount of walking you manage quite incredible. I've only just started walking after three years in which I've barely left the house. When I first set out to walk for 15 minutes, turn round and then walk back, it didn't sound terribly taxing; but I was completely exhausted by the time I hit the 15-minute mark and I wasn't even walking very fast. Quite horrific, really!
Has your husband lost weight since you started this? (I'm afraid I haven't read all 76 pages of your diary, sorry if you've mentioned it before.) My husband needs to lose weight, too, but not nearly as much as I do. He is a naturally thin person who has been fattened up by my unhealthy influence!
Anyway, congratulations on having taken such firm control of your situation and thanks for your encouragement!
