Omega's journey

Angel

I think that you are going to have a very busy couple of terms. Just think - not only are we going to be so thin for our birthdays - but you will be for your graduation too.

I must admit - I do not anticipate any problems for next week's bonus (assuming I am still there).

lol yeh very busy especially with my habit of procrastinating...i have a whole years worth of work to do in about 3 months. i dunno whats gonna teach me to stop procrastinating...but i've come this far soo...hmmm...

i can't wait for graduation. i am hoping i will be near my goal by then...also my birthday...i don't think i'll reach my goal...the pounds just don't want to come of but if i'm in 10 by my birthday i will be reaaly excited!

i don't think you need to worry about not being here...you are probably one of the few people who are definitley through!

Hello Margaret~
Sorry I have not popped in on you lately. Know that I am keeping my eye on you just that I don't always have the time to drop you a line. :Angel_anim:
The snow here is finally all melted away and now the surrounding areas are in flood stages. Really bad in some areas. In fact a women who had no better sense tried to drive thru one of the flooded over roads a few counties away and had her vehicle with herself and her 5 kids in it swept down the river. Luckily she was able to save 3 of the kids but unfortunately 2 did not make it. People should never never never try to drive thru flood waters. You just never know how fast the water is moving and your not able to see if the road has been washed away. I feel really bad for her as I am sure that she is being consumed by the guilt of making a bad decision. How much better it would have been for her to have just turned around and taken another route.
With all the melt and then all the rain it has been to muddy to even consider walking outside.
Though it has finally started to "dry" up here in my area.
I think that this afternoon perhaps if I can find the time I may take my puppy for a short walk.
As she needs to be getting exercise as well. And it is just like you told Stacey. I am sure that Snickers would enjoy a good walk rather than watch me on the elliptical.
Hope that your day goes well for you!
Until next time.........

Hi Angel

I have suggested that putting things off doesnt always work out well. We all have to come to that conclusion for ourselves though. I have done more than my fair share of putting things off over the years.

I am confident that if you keep up with your walking the pounds will come off - and come off early and you will be at goal early. It is easy to say that there is not enough time to do it consistently - but often when I have said this there has been time but I have been unwilling to make the degree of effort necessary to use the time for purposes other than leisure. I know that you can do it.

I have just put something in your diary. Baked beans will be the answer to any fibre concerns that people may have. That and pears.

Take care

Hi Dawn

Thanks for dropping by. I do not get around to visiting everyone's diaries nearly as often as I would like. Little things like home, family and exercise gets in the way for us all! It is truly amazing how busy we all are - and I really appreciate you taking the time to visit me today.

That certainly is a tragedy that you mentioned. I cannot imagine the depths of that poor lady's despair. We all make decisions all the time - and some can have the most tragic of consequences.

I am pleased that things have started to dry up - I am sure that both you and Snickers will enjoy a walk together. I do hope that you manage to get a walk together today - and the bonus will be that it will be good exercise for you both.

Take care

Hi Margaret,
Just wanted to pop in before you went to bed. :) Another great day, I see. I thought of you while I was out walking in a strong wind this afternoon. Now it's raining.

Most men lose weight pretty easily--at least easier than most women in my experience. So if Rod continues his walks with you and keeps an eye on his food, he should drop some lbs w/out a great deal of effort. How far is one lap around the block?

I hope the salmon works its magic for you. :)

Thanks for visiting. Hubby has been playing with the computer all night - but just got it back for a few minutes before bed.

Angel

I am convinced that walking would be great for you. You have a treadmill - you lucky girl. Janice (abbagirl) gets on the treadmill when certain tv programs are on and watches them from the treadmill. She gets loads of walking done that way in what is like invisible time. It is a shame that you dont like baked beans because basically a tin of baked beans, a pear and some weetabix or an apple and you are sorted.

Kimberly

I have my pedometer set to count one lap round the block as just over 0.6 miles - it may be a little more (it certainly isnt less) as I like my pedometer to understate rather than overstate. I certainly am pleased if he will come out and go round twice as that is about a mile and a quarter that he wouldnt have done. It rained here this afternoon - so I got quite wet when I did my 6 laps in it. When he got home he thought that it was raining too heavily - but after a while the rain got lighter so we went round twice together.

I would like to think that he would lose weight. He normally has healthy main meals but is still snacking his way through the back end of Christmas excess. He has been having some Spanish sweet treats tonight that a friend who lives in Spain gave us for Christmas. He doesnt drink alcohol at all but has a definite sweet tooth and cannot resist something sweet. We all have our little foibles.

We will wait and see about the salmon. I have a new keep fit class during my walk in the morning (this class starts at 9 a.m. so I will have to be out walking earlier than I like at this time of year) so I will have done tons of exercise before I weigh myself in the morning. Only time will tell whether I have also drank lots of water and eaten my banana by then. It all depends on how hungry and thirsty I get. I may have to use my pre-walk weight which is normally higher - I normally discard it when I get one that I like better after the walk. See the lengths that I go to because I like to think of my weight as being the lowest one that I can get for the day! That is vanity for you!

Take care

Margaret

Lol@your deviousness!

1.25 miles is good exercise for your hubby. As big as he is, I'm sure he burns a lot of calories doing it--so it might make him lose. At the very least, it should allow him to eat some sweets and not gain from it.

Best of luck in the weigh in tomorrow--I think you'll be satisfied. :)

Hi Margaret!

I haven't been making my way around diaries this week, so I apologize! It's report card time for my students, which means tons of work for me!

I just wanted to pop in and say hello! You are still a huge inspiration to me, and I am considering getting a pedometer the next time I am at the store! A friend's cell phone has one built in, and in 1 school day (while at school) she walked over 7,000 steps! I am really curious to see just how much walking I do at school, because I know it is a lot!

:D

AAHHH!!! My pedometer batteries died today! (i knew you would appreciate the emotional pain this caused me.)

Margaret, you are an inspiration to me. I love how you set priorities and stick to them (my house can be messy until I lose weight).

Thank you for visiting.

Kimberly

Thanks. I am really sneaky in the way that I weigh - not because I am trying to cheat but because I really get such a buzz from seeing a lower weight. I have just weighed and managed to scrape a new low by a matter of about 3 ounces. Not a big deal - but a fifth of a pound is a fifth of a pound (below previous lowest). It is definitely worth weighing after walking!

Tyly

I am not visiting nearly the amount of people that I want to either. You are doing better than me at that. Definitely get a pedometer. I am sure that you will love it like I do. It is so nice to be able to quantify exercise - especially if it is spread through the day. I am sure that you would feel really good about what you get done during the working day. It encourages you to add a few extra steps here and there into your routine and these all add up. All the experts say that we would be healthier if we all did 10,000 steps a day. I know that the UK national average is 5,000 steps. You can start to feel good about things therefore if you do more that 5,000.

Amber

I can feel your pain regarding the pedometer battery. It is stupid really because we all know that our body knows exactly how many steps we have done and the eventual truth will be there for all to see in pounds, inches and better health. Having said that - I will admit something really stupid and slightly embarrassing to you (I havent mentioned it at all on the forum yet!) Anyway - my pedometer was causing me problems last week. There were a couple of days when I knew with absolute certainty that it was counting me low. I do very similar walks every day and know absolutely what to expect as a minimum because I have checked the distances in the car and walked the basic main streets so many times. I was even adding extra bits in. Well the pedometer was not even saying that in the entire day I had walked as far as the basic exercise walks that I had done. I felt robbed. That is why I am currently wearing two pedometers - one over each leg. So you now see me for the true eccentric that I am!

For me - losing this weight is so much more important than having a tidy house.

Take care
Love
Margaret

You are doing fantastic Margaret, very inspirational to me personally.

How fast do you walk? I've been power walking every day for the past week. Although I have been a walker much of my life, only the past week I've been walking for the sake of walking and putting more energy into it to boost my heart rate. I bought a pedometer on eBay (as well as accurate scales) so expect some (minor) results.

Cheers. :)

Hi Geovicsha

Thanks for visiting. Welcome to my diary.

I dont really know how fast I walk. I keep a good steady pace. In the morning I do at least 6.3 miles but sometimes 6.5 or 6.7 by the time I have done what I want to do and it normally takes about two and a quarter hours. In the afternoon I do laps that are slightly over 0.6 miles and they tend to take about 10 to 11 minutes. I go more for distance and a steady determined pace than for speed as such.

I am sure that a lot of people can go faster than me - and I am happy with the results that I am getting. I am a bit of a coward and am too nervous to jog or anything.

I am sure that you will get brilliant results with your pedometer and scales. My pedometer and scales were the best things that I bought last year.

If only I had been a walker most of my life - I would not have been morbidly obese for so many years. Congratulate yourself for having adopted a very good behaviour.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret

Sorry that made me laugh i do something similar check what the pedometer says then double check to the one on my phone at least im not the only one!

I found a coco-butter cream in the body shop and my friend is having a body shop party on Saturday so i will buy some from there and rub those strechmarks away LOL
I also have got a good cleanser toner and mositoriser for my face used it 2ce and feel great so will keep up with that (when i remember)

Good to see your still walking and getting hubby out on a few trips round the block is great company for you and great for him as well

Hi Sarah

I knew that everyone would be amused by my total eccentricity. You most certainly are not the only one! We all hate for the pedometer to rob us.

I am pleased that the moisturising seems to be working nicely for you - it certainly helps skin feel soft and nice. As far as the stretchmarks go - I think that the creaming helps to prevent new ones from forming as you shrink and helps the existing ones become less noticeable. I believe that the old ones never completely go away - just get less noticeable.

I certainly need to lose at least another 3 stone and will only do that by walking. On one level I still surprise myself every day that I go out and do it. I am pleased whenever my hubby will come out walking with me. I love him - but know that he would be so much more healthy if he could bring his weight down. We all know only too well how the drive and determination to do that has to come from within. All that I can do (other than suggesting ideas and encouraging him) is wait and see.

Take care

Have A Great Friday/Weekend!

Hi Stacy

Thanks. I note however that you lost more weight than me though - so well done yourself! Losing weight is after all the reason why we are all here.

I decided against posting my actual minutes exercised during the week incase it gave strangers a shock. All my friends know that I have to walk a lot in order to lose anything - but there are a lot of newbies in the challenge that I hardly know. I think that they would just think that I was wierd. Rounding the hours down - I still reckon that I did 23 hours in week 1. As we said in the last challenge - it is a shame that I cannot distribute my surplus hours among the rest of the team. This week will be more exercise again because term is back after Christmas and I had a keep fit class today that was not on last week.

Take care

Friday 11/01/08

It rained heavily all morning so I got drenched. New keep fit class was lots of fun. There was a great aerobics section which included some salsa. Also mat work.

Did lots of steps. Not only did the aerobics add lots but we went grocery shopping at Tescos and that increased things.

Hubby wore a pedometer all day and actually got over 10,000 steps.
