Omega's journey

Omega your loss never ceases to amaze me when I see your ticker!! Literally being far less than HALF what you weighed to begin with!! I'm only starting at 193lbs and the thought of reaching my 140lbs target seems impossibly far away let alone reaching your tiny 126lbs.

Anyway congrats on a good week so far, enjoy your weekend. :)

Interestingly enough, it was not an aversion to pain that led me away from weight loss surgery. It was an inherent feeling that it would be "cheating" to do it that way, and that I felt as though I was failing by not being able to take care of this myself. Additionally, I felt that surgery would take away my ability to consume enough to support the lengthy cycling trips I take. I'd be concerned that I would dehydrate or "bonk" (run out of fuel).

My attitude has changed somewhat with my wife going through the surgery. Regardless of how you lose weight, there is still work involved! She now has to pay as much attention to her diet as I do, but for different reasons. She needs to look into all the micro and macronutrients and pay very careful attention to calcium, protein etc. She even goes in for monthly B-12 shots now.

No matter how you lose it, losing it is the important part.

LOL - I think that I would have been quite happy to cheat - but am a huge coward regarding pain and life risk. Did you read about how San nearly died when she had weight loss surgery some time back - and now she is doing so well using the old fashioned method that we chose ourselves.

It is great that your wife is dealing with her weight issues (whatever way she has chosen). It always entails hard work. I understand that a lot of these methods can be tricked (e.g. any high calorie food/sweet can be liquidised and consumed after that). Hunger always comes into the equation - as does self control. Many people eat because of emotional reasons - it can for instance be a reaction to stress.

I would honestly be scared of Rod opting for the surgery - he has never shown any inclination to do so and I havent guided him either way with that. If anyone is heavy enough to really require the surgery there is a huge element of risk in any surgery that they have. Your wife is making progress now. I certainly wish that he would make greater efforts regarding his weight. It is over a year since he has been on the treadmill.

Thanks for your supportive comment. Since you are in England did you see that my avatar is my Slimming World book cover with my high awards on. The whole thing plus my weighings to goal under 9 stone are in my album here.

I will admit that my goal weight seemed an impossible dream for a very long time. I originally thought of an even lower weight until I realised that the loose skin that I carry means that I would be too thin if I tried for a lower weight and BMI.

Stick with the project - eating healthily and doing regular exercise and you will drop that weight. Nearly 4 stone can sound a lot and a daunting task - but consistant hard work will get you there. Many people on the forum have managed it and you will too.

omega:
Do you have a before and after thread?!?! id love to see it if so!!! your weightloss is incredible girl!!! Way to go!

keep up the good work... you are such a strong woman!!

I havent done a before and after thread - but if you look at page 190 of my diary I did show a before picture and a picture where I wasnt a lot heavier than I am now in answer to another query.

Thanks for your supportive comment. We all have weak moments at times...

Margaret, after posting in my diary, I came here next, because I knew that you, of all people would be happy for me today. I officially hit 299 on the scale today. I broke the 300 barrier (albeit by a whisker), and dropped to under 33 BMI in one shot.
My god this seems like it has taken forever, but I have to say, people like you along the way have made it easier to deal with.

On to the next goal, I have a mini goal of 289 now, because this represents an even 100 lbs loss from the top.

Thank you so much for being a friend to me.

Karl - I dived straight over to your diary the moment that I read your wonderful news. What an amazing milestone. I am so overjoyed for you.

You will soon be at that unbelievable 100 pounds lost milestone too. The rewards are zooming in your direction thick and fast. Firm nutritional control and consistent exercise is the magic key and you have it all working wonderfully. I just love forum parties and you are giving us loads of cause to have them...

Very well done my good friend.

LOL@ Karl and his "shoe" size. :biggrinjester:

I also have big feet and it made finding women's shoes in Korea very difficult--if not impossible. I usually just waited until I came back to the US for a visit to buy them. Once I was in a Korean dept store and saw a pair of women's shoes I really liked. The salesman asked me what size I wore and when I told him, he shook his head and said that was a man's size, not a woman's. Korean sizes are measured in mm and are the same for both sexes. I just hung my head in shame and walked away. :biggrinjester: I wear a US women's size 11, but then it was a 10.

Kimberly - there is nothing wrong with tall ladies having big feet. You wouldnt be in proportion otherwise. It sounds like Korea is a nation of small people. As you know - I am far from tall. Believe it or not - I actually tower over my mother and my cousins on her side of the family. Last time I was in Newcastle my mother was in cloud cuckoo land insisting that my shoe size is bigger than it was when I was young. It isnt! I take UK size 6 - she takes a 4 - she is convinced that I used to take a 4. I didnt. I was wearing a 6 before I started senior school. I probably take a wider fitting - I am not sure - I dont like fancy shoes much. I normally go for walking shoes or sandals and I am always wearing those out and having to buy more (bought 2 more pairs of walking sandals this month in Clark's sale).

I have long said that I dont run anywhere - but that is not now completely true... Over the past week or so I have been doing an occasional minute at 5.5mph when on my treadmill. I am not sure whether I class that as jogging or running since I cannot see me dare to go faster than that... Since most days I do at least part of my walk on there if not all of it - that is a little burst of different activity every day.

====

Yesterday was the most wierd day ever! I have over the last week or two been doing a bit of research into surgery in the UK and I came across this computer forum that is UK based. They had precious little information on weight loss and people really struggling. They also had sections on all the diets that I would not fancy doing from Lighter Life, Cambridge Diet (same "no food at all" diet - different brand), Lipotrim - you name it - it was there. They also had a section on surgery after weight loss with some interesting bits.

I felt a bit guilty having got info from them for not having put anything in. I spent a bit of time there yesterday posting on there. I was sensitive to the notion that they seemed to support wierd diets and didnt go out to "convert" anyone.

I did make a few postings in the PCOS section (and was actually thanked / given rep for them). I then went on to the calorie counting section. There were people asking how to count calories or know how many to have. One had even been told in a reply the day previously to use a website (full link given) costing £8 per month with a 5 day free trial. I quoted that reply and said that there was no need to pay £8 as you could get a free account from fitday and do it there, see your calorie balance and evaluate your nutrition. I didnt even type in the whole link - just said "fitday". I then replied in a similar manner to one or two similar queries in the calorie counting section and introductions section when people didnt know how to lose weight.

I then got permanently banned for spamming fitday LOL.

They have since deleted all my postings - at least half of them didnt mention fitday or anything like it... I had previously acquired rep from at least 2 of their mods... Wierd or what...

Now you know why you didnt see me here much yesterday....

It's a shame that bad information is being given out to people who have legitimate needs for real solutions. An even bigger shame that someone whoo might be giving out good information is given the boot so that others can profit by said bad information.

Personally, I'd love to to beat up that forum in other forms of cyber media in an attempt to prevent more people from falling prey...

Anyway, How are you my amazing friend? Still holding the line I hope? You are an inspiration, at least for me anyway.

LOL - that is the most unusual sentence with bonk in it that I have ever seen!!!!

:rotflmao::biggrinjester::rotflmao:

.... maybe your slang is different to ours....

Ha, ha I hadn't seen this before I posted!!! Yes "bonk" is a term used by cyclists, at least in the U.S. for when you run out of fuel on a long ride. Runners call it hitting the wall I think. Basically it's that point where you've used up all your energy reseerves and now you legs suddenly start feeling like stone.

The other kind of bonking I believe would be much more fun...:smilielol5:

Omega, I am back! And I am glad to see that so are you (I know you were always around but not actively posting it seems).
I am full of renewed energy and new goals in life (weight loss and otherwise) and I always think of you when I feel I need motivation. You are so awesome.

Have you set a date for your surgeries? Breasts and skin I guess from your last few posts, huh? You will feel so amazing afterwards! I cannot wait to be your size (just a few more pounds to go), but once you have surgery I will have to work hard to catch up with you again ;)!

Also bonk sounds dirty to me too! Must be the britishness. A friend of mine was talking about fanny packs the other day and I kept thinking, what on earth could fanny packs be... I thought along the lines of big tampons of something. Then found out in the US a fanny is a bottom :D! Fanny packs are bumbags! Oh these americans! same for pussy... I was singing "the owl and the pussy cat" to one of my babysit kids and a (american) mom apporached me on the playground (as I was singing loudly: oh lovely pussy oh pussy my love what a lovely pussy you are) and asked me not to sing dirty lyrics in her children's vicinity! :) :)

Have a great week, Camy

Karl - I'm fine. Weight drifting a little higher than I would like but nothing to get worried about. I think that I know what it is and am ok with it. I hope that you are fine too.

It's a shame that bad information is being given out to people who have legitimate needs for real solutions. An even bigger shame that someone whoo might be giving out good information is given the boot so that others can profit by said bad information.
You just wonder about the logic of it all... The silly thing is that I had already copied out the best bits of info from there into my own files and was just hanging around to repay them in a way. It wasnt like they could help me further. I was just going to hang around for a few days to put some of them in the right direction. I am far too busy to suddenly start spending as long there as I have spent here. I really have things to do at home instead of spending as much time as I spend here already.

Personally, I'd love to to beat up that forum in other forms of cyber media in an attempt to prevent more people from falling prey...
I know what you mean. I just feel so sorry for people there who think that it is as good as it gets...

LOL - Their loss is this forum's gain because I decided that I felt a whole lot more comfortable about posting some of the stuff (in a definite act of plagarism) here - so there is shiny brand new thread in the weight loss surgery section...

I have an extra PCOS bit of info so I might start a PCOS club and post a couple of bits that I have collected over the years plus that all together there too.

Have a great week, Camy

Good to see that you are ok and doing well too Camy. I rarely get into my own diary let alone any one else's these days. Sometimes people have things in here for weeks before I twig and put a reply in... I sometimes pop into a maintenance club here or answer a question posted - but am not nearly as active as I was. I cannot even enter most challenges these days either as I am not really looking for weight loss.

My breast application is being sent to PCT with surgeon approval so hope that will all come together. I am holding off on the abdominoplasty request until I have the breast reduction agreed as I dont want to be asking for too many things at once. It might cause them to view the breasts as purely cosmetic...

I have had to get a new GP as my old GP has just retired this week which in itself causes problems.

Hey Camy - I have a query for you... If your PCT refuses and you appeal and get nowhere - can you apply to another PCT? What are the rules with that - is it any other PCT or just neighbouring areas? I saw someone on another forum say that her doctor had applied to another PCT after the first one turned her down...

I am trying to get my head around the whole process and it's different paths...

That is so funny about the Owl and the Pussycat....

I know that one for my friends is Canadian and she works in a kitchen. She got some flour on her trousers once and didnt understand why we laughed when she said "I've dirtied my pants!"...

Well - I have finally done a before / after thread showing the main of my weight loss. It hasnt got a picture quite at goal - but it does show the start and some of the steps along the way.

The most recent picture is between half a stone and a stone from goal (it was taken on holiday and I know what I weighed at the start and end of the holiday as I gained weight - but I dont know what I weighed that day)...

Margaret, I know you have probably heard this a million times, but i need to say it for myself... 1million and one, you are an inspiration. I see your amazing transformation and growth and Ijust know i can do it. Not only that, you freely give your support to those who really need to see a true success story. :) ~Thank You ~ Michelle

Margaret, that is just beyond my power to describe in words. You're an inspiration to us all. And I don't even mean that in a hokey Hallmark way. I mean, that is craziness. You look absolutely fantastic - go girl go!!!!!!!!!!
