No Pain, No Loss?

Well mum-dear, at least I care about your son's health, even if you don't.

It's strange to me how bad some people fight a healthier lifestyle. It's like sometimes they just want you to fail. You get the just one bite...... It's like they just don't like it but I think what mostly bother them is your doing something they haven't been able to do or just insist on not doing.....

Well thats just my two cents and I usually have change coming lol. :)

I think you're right on that. According to my BF, his mom was heavily over-weight and didn't do much to take care of herself. It wasn't until her divorce popped up that she started shedding major pounds (by not eating at all).

Whenever she comes over, she puts out junk food in bowls and sets them in front of us. Candies, chips, chocolates.. You name it and she's probably tried putting it under our noses. She has a lot of destructive behaviors and I wouldn't be surprised if this is just another one of them.

one of my friends is like that. we will go out to dinner and she will ask what I want and I tell her someplace that has good salads or something half way healthy like that and she digs in her heels and we end up at a Chinese buffet.

Hahahah, I'm totally using that one at some point!
I'm told I have "that look" down to a science. Ya know the one that will make any man cringe and wonder what he just did wrong? Thats what I usually use but I'm going to have to switch it up and keep the BF on his toes.

Oh I hate that look lol. Although I have learned a good teacher look and voice that makes a pretty decent counter when necessary. Its not fair when the women talk strategy though :)

At age 24, I'm already battling malignant tissue that could potentially turn into breast cancer. Its a pretty serious thing for me, considering there's a history of breast cancer in the family. The BF's mom knows this (if she was listening to me) and she thinks that the careful choosing of foods, regular exercise, and cutting out the crap is stupid.

Damnitt, Sunny.... you must be my long lost sister or something, because I'm doing the same thing (wanting to lose weight) due to breast cancer history in my family. A couple years back I had a lump... which scared the hell out of me, but later found it was calcium deposits. As a result, I have to keep getting checked. In the mean time, it just makes sense to take care of myself by watching what I eat and getting in my exercise. As for bf's mum... no offense, but bugger her. Let her talk out of her ass all she wants. It's your life (and bf's) not hers... Nuff said. :hug2:

(More Ranting Below)

Last night the BF and I had a "stern" talk about health. I kind of felt like he was brushing me off when I said I'd rather us not eat deli meats soaked in nitrates. It turns out he wasn't brushing me off. He was just off in mental-la-la land and I was ready to jump all over him for not taking me seriously. No idea why. I feel kinda bad for it.

Anyhow, after the talk, he mentioned that his mother thinks what we're doing is total crap. The summary of what we're doing is: losing weight (yea, we're both overweight), eating right (healthy foods), absolutely NO HFCS, we've cut out most diaries that could contain rBST (I let the ice cream slide 'cause he eats it and I don't really), and we're careful to select meats that aren't saturated in solutions of flavorings, etc.

She thinks its total crap that we're doing this. Can you believe it?

What a cow - good on you tryign to get some control over your life now when you are young and before anyhting major happens...

Congrats on 180:):):)

Sunny, this is awful that someone so close to you is sort of trying to poison your mind with bad habits, out of what? Misery? I don't get it, this lady must not be very educated (I think you mentioned that she can't hold down a job and didn't go to school). WHATEVER you do, Pleas please please stay stubborn about the choice to keep on the healthy track--seems like you are determined to, and I'm happy and proud. Cause people can wear on us!! We're here for support!!!! :D

Sorry about the breast comcerns. i like to drink, and even though I run and eat well, part of me is fearful that drinking will increase my chances. but I also heard it's very much genetic. Mom's mom had it, she survived though just fine.

hillbillylee, I feel for ya on the pressures of destructive friends. If I were in your shoes, I'd have a hard time saying no to the Chinese food. I :beating: all kinds of food and its hard for me to say, "Yea, I just want some light food that satisfies my body's need for sustenance but I know I won't be really satisfied." Having someone to push me over the line is usually my downfall. I've been stubborn about it from time to time but one of my favorite things in life is eating food. Its not about survival for me. Its about enjoying food.
Val is right, by the way. Thai is delicious and I tend to prefer that over Chinese. But, maybe thats because Chinese food up here is really Chinese and sometimes there's stuff that stares back at ya. I'm a little unnerved by food that looks at me while I'm eating it. Kills the appetite immediately. :rotflmao:

Val, I just can't get away from the curry dishes. That sweet coconut milk with the extra curry spice. Yum! I know its not the best for me, so I try not to get curry too often. I'd eat curry every week on Friday if I could.
By the way, I held 180 for a short time this weekend. Its now "That time of the month" and there's no point in me worrying over the 182 I saw on the scale this morning. At least I saw the number I wanted! :D

Cannon, I'm working on the "Librarian Look". I recently got very librarian-esque glasses and I have my mother's skill in looking over them at people. I happen to work in a library so I get lots of practice! :D

Sheryl, where have you been my whole life?! I always wanted a sister. Hahaha... Yea, at this point I've warned the BF that I will no longer go out of my way to be nice to his mom. He froze when I told him that and said, "Uh oh." :rotflmao: I think he thought I was going to bring down my wrath on his mother. No no, I'll save my temper for more justified people. So I told him, "Your mother hasn't been exceedingly warm to me, so I won't be exceedingly warm to her anymore. And if she even so much as hints at being mean, I'll tell her that she hasn't ever been very nice and I'm going to treat her as such." :p
I don't think she'll push the issue after that... If she does, I'll give her a scolding and send her packing. I have NO trouble telling a woman over twice my age what I think and that she needs to get the hell out of my house if she won't respect me, my BF, or my space.

cinderelly, thanks! I can't wait to see the 170's! It'll have to wait tho.. I never lose weight when its "that time of the month". At least not weight that the scale will recognize until after its all over.

Hey Sunny, I hope things are going well. I do know from experience that relationships can survive crazy or just downright evil mothers.

Hey cannon,
I'm not too worried about the relationship I have with my BF. He doesn't even get along with his mother very well. Now I know why! He told me that he would never put me in a position where he'd be "siding with his mother" against me. I don't think there will be a time where he'd have to make a choice like that, but it was nice to know he wouldn't do that.

I don't even know if she's currently pissed at me. I doubt it. I think I was just the audience for the unfolding drama.. and when sh*t started to fly, I caught a little.

Thanks for checkin' in on me, darlin'. I'm trying to hop around to everyone's diaries but my ISP is having fun dropping me left and right today. They must be working on the lines..

I need to get back on track with counting up what I eat. I know I've really been slacking off on it. I've been sort of keeping a mental idea of about how much I've eaten, but thats it.

Today's start was 3 cups of tea and 1 Cup of plain low fat, large curd cottage cheese. 215 Calories

Snack: Two rice crackers. 28 calories

Lunch was a bowl of Whole Wheat Rotini with some nice chunky pasta sauce over the top. 360 Calories

Dinner tonight will be some sort of salad of mixed baby greens and what ever I find in the fridge. Plus I'll be adding some more cottage cheese. Yum!

- Sunny

I'm having that same problem Sunny. I am eating far too much, even gaining actually . Good luck getting back on track :).

If only food weren't tasty...
If sawdust were packed full of nutritional goodness, I might switch out all my food for that in order to discourage eating. Hahaha... I know I wouldn't starve. I couldn't ever do that. I like eating too much!

I'm really excited for this week. I've been planning a day-trip into the mountains and finally the time is here. This week I'll be hiking up the side of Mt. Rainier, the largest mountain in the Cascades. I'm excited because I'm going to be hiking all the way up to one of the largest remaining glaciers in the contiguous USA and seeing one of the best wildflower displays in the state. The wildflowers are in full bloom! :D

I'm glad to be going to see a glacier before they're all gone. Given the increasing amount of rainfall that the mountain has been seeing, its probably a good idea to go now, while I can. Last year, Mount Rainier National Forest suffered 18" of water in 36 hours. Most of the roads were gone.

I tried planning the trip to go up the East side of the mountain, but the road there is still washed out (almost a year later). Too bad for me.. that was the road that took people to the highest elevation by vehicle and thats where the trails to the best view of the glacier started. So instead of hiking from 5900' in elevation up to over 7000', I'll only be going to about 6300' from a much lower 5300'. Still exciting!

Fitday thinks I'll be burning over 1200 calories along the way. Yay! Beautiful view, fresh air, and burning my buns off! :D

I'm really excited. :jump:

I love hiking, though sadly I haven't done it in so long. Hiking really does burn tons and tons of calories. I used to be down a pound after doing a 10 miler. Take some pics of the wild flowers if you can and have a wonderful time. Be safe and tell us all about it when you return!

Hey that sounds like a fun and really healthy trip. I really want to walk the Appalachain Trail some Summer for much the same reasons.

Hey sunny sounds like a blast but take bunches of pictures......

Hey Cannon,
The Appalachian is wonderful! The beauty of that one is that once you're up on the ridge-line, you rarely have to make a seriously steep ascent again. I've hiked nearly a third of the trail in total now with the longest stretch lasting one week. I've always wanted to do the whole thing, but that takes months, not including the training time.
If you can get up there this fall, I highly recommend it. Particularly in the area of West Virginia since I really believe that has the most impressive color display of the trees. Simply beautiful!!

hillbillylee and blancita, I intend to take as many pics as my camera battery will allow. So... around 400 pics? I hope to get a few good ones out of that. :D With any luck, the weather will be wonderful and I'll get some impressive shots. If the weather isn't pretty, my little point-and-shoot camera won't do nearly as well.

I'm gonna have to learn how to post pics on here.

Side note, I went to the gym and had a wonderful experience with a trainer! Exciting! :D He was actually able to help me with my problem of doing squats that don't hurt my knees. (Thanks for your help Steve! I've got a solution for the problem :D) Tight buns, here I come. :rotflmao:

Well, I'm gonna go finish some posts over some tea and hit the sack. I'm pooped.
