No Pain, No Loss?

That sounds SO GREAT, Sunny...ah I can picture the wild flowers now! What a great activity, and you know you probably won't be eating much since you'll be too busy hiking. But get some trail mix in there, woman!! :D I really am looking forward to you getting into the 170s, I can feel it coming and you're doing such a wonderful job with eating right, exercising, and drinking tea! Have a fantastic time!

I'm glad your trainer experience went well and you can do squats sans the pain!!!

Back to 180 this morning. I can almost taste 179! :D
I'll be taking lots of easy to eat munchies (healthy stuff) with me, including some trail mix and some peanut butter with apples for sure. I'll need to refuel a lot since I think most of this hike is uphill. Well at least I have to come back downhill at some point.

I woke up feeling pretty awful this morning with lower back ache and cramps. I never have both. Its always one or the other. I'm also super tired... need tea. I'm going to go make some and then check people's journals, I think.

woohoo... only a pound away from the 170s, girl. :D By the way, I'm so jealous... I've been wanting to go hiking for some time, but unfortunately it's difficult to do so with my husband's schedule at the moment. Bah... And yes, do take pictures! Have fun, little miss shrinking sunny.. haha

PS Hope you start feeling better.

I am so glad that this trainer worked out better. I discussed the first trainer I talked to with my trainer today. I'll say this for her, she's darn hard to read. Anyway, I think its different strokes for different folks. Finding the right one makes a huge difference though. I'd love to do the trail in the Fall, but as a teacher I'd limited to time off in summer. Its two months so I'm not complaining, but I can't take a week off in October or something.

I guess thanksgiving would be a little late to go hiking unless you wanted to deal with snow... Hmmm.. I think if you go north, the leaves start turning in August. Not sure entirely, but I kind of remember them turning before fall was in full swing. I guess school starts in August for you though, doesn't it?

Hmmm... any way you could get a sub in for two days and take a four day weekend?

At the very least, the day you retire, you should start making plans to hike the trail, even if its just a day hike. I firmly believe that everyone should visit the Appalachian trail at least once in the fall before they die. Its just so beautiful!

I wonder when I'll finally fit into a size 10. My jeans are snug on my hips and thighs at size 12 and 180lbs. Think 10lbs will make a size difference? I sure hope so. *pray* I'd really like to have an easier time finding pants in life.

- Sunny

Hey Sunny!

Thought I would stop in! So you are down to a size 12, good work ..
Size 10 is on its way!

Anyway the glacier hike sounds great. I love hiking small hikes. Can't quite work up the gumption to do Pine Mtn. Every time my mom says we are going to go, I shrink out of it..lmao ..its rather sad actually .. Cause I was able to do Mtn Bluejob.. the blueberry fields and up to the tower, so I should be able to do Pine Mtn. Very hard, but I should be able to... Just not feeling it I guess!

But I will just kick myself in the butt soon ..hopefully one of these days.. like this week ... lol maybe with a little inspiration from you and the others I will get up the gumption to do more ..

but anyway ...
Best wishes on the hike! Enjoy!

My father always said, "There's no time like the present," and its so true. I think he told me that a lot when I was a child because I was notorious for procrastinating. I'm trying to incorporate that age old saying into my life. I think I can probably blame a few of the lost lbs to telling myself "there's no time like now."

No one can make you do it but you. :D
Climb that mountain and say no to sugar cookies. You'll be miles ahead of lots of people at that point and you'll feel really good about yourself.

I believe in you, Natalie. I know you can do it. :D

- Sunny

My trip up the mountain was a lot of fun but I didn't lose a single
pound! In fact, I managed to gain one over the weekend. *sigh*
Oh well. Thats life. :D

My trip started at waking up around 4:30am to beat the Seattle traffic
down south and get to Mount Rainier's visitor center before the very
few parking spots filled up. The drive there was gorgeous and the
weather seemed absolutely perfect along the way.

Time for some mount rainier facts before I continue:
1. Mount Rainier is so big, it has three separate climate
zones, each with different flora and fauna and its large enough to
create its own weather.
2. Mount Rainier is an active volcano and has an elevation of
14,411 feet. That's really really high!
3. Mount Rainier is where the first Mount Everest training was done
due to the similar climates at the top.
4. Mount Rainier has some of the largest glaciers within the
contiguous 48 states.
5. Where I was hiking averages 630 inches of snowfall in a year and
the snow never melts away completely.
6. Every year thousands of people attempt a summit climb. Less than
half make it to the top.

That being said, I'd like to start out letting you all know that the
weather was indeed, incredible. There was a cloud layer on the upper
portion of the mountain all day and thats what I got to walk through!
There were places I was hiking where I couldn't see more than 6 or 7
feet ahead of me because the cloud was so thick. You could literally
wave through it and see it swirl. Even though the experience of
spending most of my day in a cloud was impressive, it meant that I
couldn't see much around me and there wasn't much to take for
pictures.

At 5800 feet in the meadows, the cloud mass was thin enough to see a
good 25-30 feet ahead. At 6200 feet that shortened to about 15-20
feet. At 7150 feet (about half way to the summit), the cloud was so
thick that I couldn't see far beyond my boots. :D

Overall, the hike kicked my butt. I was so stiff and tired afterwards!
I can't wait to go again. The plan is to make it to camp Muir (maybe
next spring) which is at 10,100 feet. If I can make it that far, the
summit is only a day's hike away. Woot!

I hear the fastest/easiest way down from the summit is to sit on your
but and slide down a glacier. Kinda scary when there are cracks in it
the size of mac trucks. :rotflmao:

Ok... gotta figure out how to add the pics.

Pictures in order left to right:
1. Wildflowers are everywhere up there. At least until you hit higher than about 6500 feet.
2. Thats what the path looked like a lot. If the cloud were any denser, my camera wouldn't take a pic of anything focused.
3. I think there were about 6 Marmots along the way, including one baby. He was adorable!
4. Glacier meltoff. This is a chunk of glacier that has broken away from the terminus and is slowly sliding down the mountain. It makes the prettiest little brooks! :D
5. Notice the cloud sitting on the mountain? This picture was taken from the decent after walking through that high point thick with cloud.

It was fun!

Catching a glimpse of Mt. Rainier

I wanted to post this pic and apparently there's a limit of pics per post.

The clouds managed to separate a little after I came back down a bit from where I was on the mountain. I couldn't get a complete summit view at all since that gap in the clouds lasted no more than 30 seconds.

I'm excited to go back.

What a beautiful place to get married. :D
And how does a mail order church work, anyway? :rotflmao:

Just the idea of sliding down a glacier seems a bit scary. With my luck, I'd fall through the crack and find Megatron. (If you watched Transformers The Movie, you'd understand.. haha! loved it!) Thank you so much for sharing your pix, Sunny. The hike looked absolutely beautiful! Good on you for getting out there and hiking it, girl!

theres a bunch of mail order churches out there - where for a small fee, you can become a minister in said church -and you are allowed to marry people (the couple still needs a marriage licence and all that crap but it's no different than going to a churchy church and getting a reverend to do the deed.

I've wondered how it is that a bunch of people I knew got married by what seemed like "random people".

And can you still get married by a ship's captain or did that one die along with chivalry? lol
