Nightporter... To the point of no return.

Thanks!

Yeah, those things can be your best friend, or worst enemy. I am just going to keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully the stick will darken!

Thank you,

Ask at the Y if they have the PFP - Personal Fitness Program. They have that here. It is a 12 week program for beginners that helps you really get focused and get into an exercise routine. I am starting that tomorrow. I have done weight training and cardio both before, but out Y got all new equipment, and it has been a while for me, so I can use the refresher. Plus, there is a lot of accountability in this program from what I understand.

Oh yeah - and here the PFP is free with your membership - not a big bunch of money like personal trainers.

Hi Nightporter,
It sounds like you have a good plan in place and know what you need to do to reach your goals, I know coming here to this forum has made losing weight almost painless to me ;) I hope it will be the same for you!

Good job resisting that temptation! That choice put you in control!

Keep up the good work and drink your water :)

Hi Nightporter, glad to see you posting in your own diary!! We want to hear what's going on with you each day, how your feeling, etc. :)

Getting over caffeine is probably the worst  ...once you get past that you'll be fine. And I believe caffeine is an appetite stimulant so getting that out of your system is such a positive step. So good for you and just stick with it.

As for the exercise, how about just starting with walking on a treadmill. That's one of the best and lowest impact exercises for when you are first starting out. It will help get you into a groove until you decide what other exercises to add. And make sure you drink tons of water, throughout the day and especially when you are exercising.

You are going to do great and we are all going to be right here beside you each baby step of the way. Just think about tackling this pound by pound. It seems much more manageable looking at it that way.

There is a challenge starting Monday...why don't you join? We'd love to have you and it could be a good kickstart two weeks...you can read about it here....

Have a great weekend!! :D :D :D

Hey, great to see you have diary... well done on peeing moderate... golly that sounds strange... :)

Sounds like you're doing great... the first week or so on atkins is supposed to be the roughest.. but you'redoing it- well done... :)

Hello!

Sorry no posts yesterday- My internet crashed an wasn't supposed to be fixed until this Tuesday but luckily it came back today!

Anyway, I'm starting to go crazy. Dr. Atkins suggests a supplement called Glutamine that's supposed to curb your sugar cravings, So far I haven't been able to find it anywhere! I also find that I have been gnawing on my pens all day!

But other than that I am feeling a ton better then before. I did some excersize at home a few days ago- and boy do my muscles ache! But I like the feeling. Tomorrow I'm going to try going to a new YMCA- Granted, it's 6 miles farther then my other one, but at the other one I felt very uncomforatable. The whole place is just one giant room with mirrors and I always felt that all eyes were on me. I'm hoping this Y will be different. I also plan to work out longer too, before I used to just go an hour a day, but this time I'm going to stay longer... Hey, I'm payin' for it! ;-)

With that being said I better type up what I ate today- I am totaly unable to remember what I had yesterday, though!

Breakfast
-3 egg omlet with bacon and cheese inside
-AdvantEDGE shake with 6 carbs

Lunch
-None because I woke up at 1:30 today!

Dinner
-2 Hamburgers in lettuce with ketchup, cheese, and bacon.

Snack
-AdvantEDGE shake

So far my father claims to have lost 8 pounds- But our scale is very unreliable- So I'm not very sure! Also, when is the best time to weight yourself? Morning or evening I forget!

Thank you again,

-K-

hey night. Glutamine is found in health and vitamin shops something like GNC. Sometimes you will see it as L-Glutamine. It will have a description something like this

Provides an Anti-Catabolic Effect
Involved in Protein Synthesis
1000mg of Glutamine Per Capsule

Its normally by the bodybuilding or creatine products. I have even seen it by the diet supplements.

Ok, thanks so much! So far I have tried Walgreens, CVS, and the grocery store and none of them have it... Maybe I can order it off ebay... j/k!

Hey Night! Morning is the best time to weigh yourself. Hey, are you going to join us in that challenge today? Scarlett posted the link for yah already. I'm glad you're feeling a lot better! I understand what you mean by feeling like everyone is watching you. Specially with all those mirrors... I hope you like it at the other gym better! Isn't it a great feeling when your muscles ache from exercise?

I weigh the minute I wake up....nekkid!!! Oh. but after I pee because that could be like 4 ounces. I know, too much information!!!

You're doing great, you've just got to get past this initial break in period and the cravings will go away. Keep it up!!

Thanks so much you guys... I'm about to head down to the new Y right now... I'm really nervous but I like going to new places. Listening to music while excersizing really helps though, so I'm hoping it wont be too bad!

PS: I don't mean to sound like a dummy- but I once tried an Elliptical (??) Machine and I had to get off in 2 minuts. Are there settings on those to make it less... Strenuous for beginners?

PSS: Sorry I haven't posted in you guy's diarys yesterday- I'll be sure to do it when I get back!

Hey there- just wanted to check in on you and let you know you're doing a great job! I wouldn't worry too much about the other people at the gym- it may seem uncomfortable the first couple of times, but if you start showing up consistently I am sure the other "regulars" will start to respect you and you might even find some new friends!

ahhhh the torture machines lol...... yea there is normally a low setting but it varies from one machine to the next. Even level 1 on those things is rough. mostly you just have to build up an endurance on them.

Big Daddy stopping in to see if you're still jumping through hoops.

You're doing a fine job and I'm proud of that 5 lb loss.

No Twiny Stick needed here.

Carry on -N-

Yay you're going to the gym! Man elipticals suck... I'm sure there's a setting on there to turn it down! I hope you like it. Try not to worry about everyone, just get into the music. Anyways, they were beginners once. Plus, I'm sure there are other beginners there as well! When you get back you'll be really happy you went. ^^

re: elliptical machines...

YES! UGH! You poor thing!!! If they are like the ones at my Y, you have to adjust them off the default kill-em-all setting. :)

The machines at my gym are the Precor brand, and they have a default setting of the highest cross ramp (incline) and the lowest resistance. The trainer that did my equipment orientation this weekend said that this makes it really hard, because you get on and you are going really fast and uphill. You need to lower the cross ramp all the way down, and increase the resistance to maybe 4 or 5. As you get stronger, you can adjust them accordingly, but you have to remember to reset them each time you get on!

Hey guys!

Just got in... Tried the other Y- Hated it! It was full of Thugs who stared at me and laughed at me, and if it wasn't thugs it was "Hey, look at me and my perfect bod" People- I am so glad though because that makes me appreciate my old Y even more! Plus it's so close to my house- Less gas milage! HAHA! I'm going to try the death machine tomorrow- But usually I would get tired about before I could even work the thing!! Maybe I'll figure out how to work it before i turn it on!

Also, I had some massive sugar cravings today- But my appetite faded away as quick as it came when I got news of that astroid that passed very close to earth a few days ago... And the scientists new about it for 8 months! That stuff freaks me out!! At least I didn't have any cravings....

It's 1 am and I apologize again about not getting on you guy's diary's! Tomorrow morning I promise!

Hey nightporter :) Sounds like your doing great, good job on passing up the bad stuff... its flippin hard- i went to a movie tonight and had bunches of popcorn and chocolate... baddddd.
About the eliptical- there are 2 different kinds- theres the crossramp that Twinmom talked about(I hate those... they make me wanna cry :) ) and then the other ones just have swinging arms- those ones are my favorite. If you jump on, you should be able to do just a manual workout and then pick your levels from there. It gets easier, trust me :D The first time I did one I was ready to cry after about 4.5minutes lol... I can go over an hour now, but it took me a while. My next challenge is the scary big stairsteppers.. ug...
anyways- congrats on joining here, I love it- I probably would still be sittin on my butt gaining weight if not for everyone here :) Looking forward to trackin your progress!

Hey!

Thanks Jess393- I'm going back to my old Y today- And I'm going to try one... Now that I know they have settings I'll be able to do it without falling off, shriveling up, and dying after 2 seconds.

This mornin' I got on the scale and it said 208.6 I rubbed my eyes and figures it must be broken (Even though I just got it yesterday) So I did it 2 more times, and it said 208.8!! wOOt!! I hope it isn't lying to me! Welp, I'm going to eat and go to the Y now... Tootles!
