My Second Shot

5-5-09 (Tuesday)

So far today:

Breakfast - Mega Monster Energy Drink (Yeah, that's healthy, lol...)
Lunch - ~2 cups of beef stroganoff hamburger helper (cousin's leftovers...I'm on a dietary roll today...to be honest, I am losing my taste for this kind of gak and only ate enough to be polite...I really just wanted a sandwich on wheat or something...)

Not so great on the diet today, and I have been dragging all day long from staying up until three this morning packing up my library; I'm moving out of my apartment in a few weeks to stay with my folks while I save money to do one of three things 1) buy land in the country and get a construction loan to build a "green" house, 2) move to New York City to edit fiction, or 3) join the military at last, and I'll just start with a little $10,000 nest egg or so. I am undecided at this point, but we'll see where my head is in about a year and a half. That year and a half is going to decide a lot of things.

Oh yeah, and just to clarify; I stayed up until three packing nothing but books. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of books of every shape, size, and topic. I own more books than any other possession. After packing the library, I am finished packing over half of my stuff.

English major say what?

I will definitely try to get to the gym this afternoon for a workout. I feel like it would give me an energy boost.

Thanks Matt!! :D

So I didn't eat dinner last night because I honestly wasn't hungry, and I am trying harder to listen to my body and only eat when I reach the point of true hunger (and even then, I try to drink a glass of water first just to make sure it's not dehydration). Probably not a bad idea to skip dinner anyway, considering the junk food I ate for lunch yesterday.

Dinner: None. (Except a strawberry Fruitista from Taco Bell, lol...)
Exercise: 33 min. treadclimber, 500 calories burned.

And it seems to have paid off too, because I am down to 197.4 lbs this morning! Woot!!!

It has been awhile since I have been below 200 lbs, so I felt pretty good with myself when I saw the scale. I tried on my favorite swimsuit because I am going to Florida next Wednesday, and to my surprise, instead of being disgusted with myself (I am VERY self-conscious about swimsuits...) I was actually pretty pleased with that too. I have always carried my weight well because I have an hourglass figure, and I'm sure it helps that the swimsuit is very flattering, but I could DEFINITELY tell that I have lost weight in all the right places. It makes me feel like all of my hard work and sacrifice for the last two weeks has been worth it.

Since last Monday, I have lost eight pounds. That is eating three square healthy meals a day (minus yesterday), drinking lots of water, and seven hard workouts. I'm sure a bunch of it is water weight, but it is still extremely satisfying nevertheless.

And I didn't go out and drink for Cinco de Mayo yesterday either, even though I was jeered soundly for it. But I had no intentions of going out drinking anyway, for several reasons: a) I don't like to drink during the week, at least not liquor of any kind, and b) Cinco de Mayo is a tequila holiday, and tequila is the devil.

The only kind of drinks I really like are beer, wine, and fruity mixed drinks. None of which are particularly diet-friendly. So I am proud that I resisted peer pressure!

Viva la independencia! Si, se puede!!

5-6-09

Breakfast:
- medium black coffee (unsweetened)
- large unsweetened tea
- large bowl of mixed fruit

5-6-09

Lunch:
- Plain chargrilled chicken sandwich on wheat
- Small bowl of chicken noodle soup (half-finished...)
- Water

Exercise:
- 20 min. treadclimber (300 calories), 25 min. weight-lifting (abdominals, legs, arms)

I'm starving! :D Can't wait for dinner!!!!!

I think my stomach has shrunk (either that or low blood sugar made me ill) because after a very small breakfast and lunch yesterday, I was starved and wolfed down half a big ribeye steak, fries, sweet iced tea, and a roll for dinner at my folks' house. And I ate fast too; barely chewed anything I was so ravenous.

Well, I immediately started to get nauseous, like I had eaten so much I had made myself sick (even though this was easily half or less than the portions I would have eaten three years ago...) and I threw it all up (against my will, because I cannot STAND to vomit).

I think I am going to have to be more careful and eat small portions more frequently throughout the day, because by the time dinner actually rolled around at about 8:30, I was definitely feeling sick. But still starving.

So...

Dinner: None (that stayed down...)

5-7-09

Not off to a good start. The drive-through girl left my order of fruit off, so I got no food, only unsweetened tea and coffee...now that my body has gotten used to having breakfast (and now that my metabolism has started revving up again from all the workouts) it actually causes me hunger pains not to eat anything. Luckily I have a few packets of saltines left over from yesterday's soup, so I have been munching those...but after not getting any dinner yesterday and no breakfast this morning, my stomach is killing me. My whole cubicle farm can hear my tummy growling "NEED. FOOD."

Breakfast:
- medium black coffee (unsweetened)
- unsweetened iced tea
- 4 saltine crackers (pitiful...)

Luckily, we have a luncheon meeting at work, where there will be pizza. And I am going to be on that pizza like white on rice. I will just have to eat slowly so I don't shock my system like I did yesterday.

As for some positive news, I am into a size 14 pants and down to 195.6 lbs this morning. Yay!!!

Update:

Lunch: (I didn't pig out as badly as I thought I would, given how hungry I was...)
- medium-sized slice of cheese pizza
- 3 bites of a small-sized slice of hamburger pizza
- two small breadsticks
- few bites of pasta w/ marinara and cheese
- unsweetened tea

Dinner:
- 1/2 light beer
- glass of sweet iced tea
- 1/2 pint house special lo mein

Exercise: Bellydancing class (kicked my a**!!!) 1 hour.

hey mav

your journaling is great...it helps so much.

i tried to do a bellydancing tape and it kicked my legs ass more than anything...wow...

sorry about your purse. i had my wallet stolen in March from where I work..there was no money in it so those F'ers just got well ZERO!!! They did find the wallet not far from where it was stolen (some kid found it in the woods by a creek), my pics were there but the CC's gone.

anyway...i want to say your journaling is wonderful i think it is a great key to success. holds us accountable.

This is my first day back to work after a wild impromptu weekend in New Orleans (I love that city, by the way; head-over-heels in love). I overdid it a bit since I considered myself on vacation, but I needed a dietary break anyway.

Here's the rundown of what I had to eat/drink over the weekend (Note: You'll notice there's a lot of liquor listed...that's 'cause I was in New Orleans!!!!):

- 1/2 of a shrimp po' boy
- 1/2 of a fresh baguette
- 1 Bloody Mary
- 1 strawberry daquiri
- several fish sticks
- double handful of homemade French fries
- 1 Hand Grenade
- 2 Bud Light beers
- 1 large raspberry slushy
- a few sips of Midnight Potion
- 1 and 1/4 cranberry-and-vodka
- medium fries
- 9 piece chicken tenders
- 1/2 toffee coffee milkshake
- 1 Kamikaze shooter

However, I'm fairly certain that I burned a lot of calories while I was down there, because a) I can almost get into my size 12 pants now, b) touring around in the French Quarter was like being in a sauna, and c) here is what I did for exercise during that time:

Exercise: Walking (10 hours)

Here's my intake for today...

5-11-09

Breakfast:
- bowl of mixed fruit
- unsweetened iced tea
- 1/3 of a medium black coffee

Lunch:
- 1/2 chicken teriyaki sub from Subway

I am going to force myself to go to the gym tonight, just so my little mini-vacation doesn't screw up the good habits I've established.

i tried to do a bellydancing tape and it kicked my legs ass more than anything...wow...

Yeah, I didn't mention the legs, but between the belly-dancing class and walking around New Orleans all weekend, I am not really that surprised that the size 14 pants I just bought are already baggy in the legs...

sorry about your purse. i had my wallet stolen in March from where I work..there was no money in it so those F'ers just got well ZERO!!! They did find the wallet not far from where it was stolen (some kid found it in the woods by a creek), my pics were there but the CC's gone.

My biggest issue with my purse was the keycard stolen out of it. I work on a military base and that keycard was the only way I could access the military networks, so...it was a pain in the ass.

anyway...i want to say your journaling is wonderful i think it is a great key to success. holds us accountable.

Thanks for stopping by!

No gym last night, mostly because I am trying to get ready to go out of state tomorrow to Florida. I feel guilty for not going though. Also did not make a good dinner choice (McDonald's chicken nugget meal) and generally I am feeling pretty frustrated with myself, despite my new pants size. I am avoiding the scale until May 24th, which is exactly a week after I get back from vacation. That will give me a week to get back into my good habits, since leaving town will definitely play hell with both diet AND exercise.

Update: Found out the condo has a fitness center. Yay! So I might overindulge a bit at the restaurants, but I will be able to make it up on the treadmill. :D

Breakfast:
- unsweetened tea
- black coffee
- buttered biscuit (MUCH worse on calories and fat content than I figured it would be...will not be eating one of those again, no matter how sick I get of fruit...)

Lunch:
- None
