My Recovery from Obesity

Thank you Megan Mandy and Justina for stopping by and encouraging me! I really appreciate your help. Mandy, I think it's critical to NOT feel deprived in the long run... sacrificing a good meal typically is fine, but occasionally we have to deviate from the healthy norm to satisfy our need to be bad.... :)

Yesterday was pretty good... maybe a 7 on a scale of 1-10. I ate too many proteins and not enough complex carbs. I didn't drink enough water, but better than the previous couple of days. I did manage an 8-mile, 30-minute bike workout... which made me sweat like I haven't in a long while. I believe that shows that most of the extra weight I'm carrying since this weekend is water from eating too much sodium. Hopefully today will improve that.

Weighed in down 1.4 pounds from yesterday's monstrosity. I'm STILL up 2 pounds since Saturday, though. Slowly but surely, it'll come back this week.

My Vitamix didn't arrive as scheduled yesterday, but it'll be here this afternoon. I am VERY excited for this baby. I'll practice with it for a few days, then I'll begin incorporating a juice meal 1X per day for awhile after that. In time, I'll try a juice fast (of sorts) where I'll eat one healthy regular meal per day and use juice for the other meals/snacks. I need to research more to understand the best way to do this, but I presume it'll be a week long venture the first time. Any other Vitamix (or similar) users out there with any good tips/recipes? I'm open to help as I know little about juicing... I know I'll be leaning on Justina occasionally. :)

8 miles is pretty dang good. And I think you'll lose those 2 pounds quickly. Just keep at it.

Yay for the juicer!!! I suggest experimenting a bit before going for recipies: try apple, try cucumber, then mix them.
Try carrot, try beetroot, try kale...mix....etc...you ll find what you like. I do a pretty complex one - i sent you the recipe in an email already.
But one you d defo like is: simple carrot & apple with a dash of lemon - add a drop or 2 olive oil (so fat soluble vitamins can absorb) ! :) Enjoy!

Thanks Cory! I feel pretty good hitting that mileage considering a month ago 4miles was hard.

Justina, the Vitamix is here! I haven't tried anything simple yet... I made a green smoothy (spinach, kale, carrot, apple, banana and orange) and it was good. Also made my dinner, a chicken soup using roasted chicken and vegetables (all leftovers), water, and leftover curried cauliflower. That was my dinner. Yum! I think I'm going to like this thing.

Tomorrow I'll practice with individual vegetables, like you suggested... then I'll blend. Also, will be trying the recipes you've suggested so far.

Thanks, Jen!

I ate an omelet yesterday morning, then had juices and a soup made from the Vitamix for the rest of the day. I am LOVING this kitchen gadget. Oh, I guess I have been mistaken in calling it "juicing" as the Vitamix is just a big, ass-kickin' blender. As opposed to a juicer that removes most of the solids/pulps, mine just grinds everything up in a creamy, smoothy-like texture. I like that I can run veg and broth and add meat late to a 5 minute cycle and out comes piping hot soup.

Weighed 402.2 today, down 1.8 pounds. That's good. I've almost recovered from the weekend. I did another 8 miles last night and woke HUNGRY, likely a result of juicing/soup for the 2nd half of the day. I'll eat big this morning, then repeat with juices/soups for at least some the day after that.

Check you out - you are already turning into an expert on juicing/blending! I m sooo happy you are enjoying it!!!
Way to go Don!! :D

Glad to see you are enjoying your monster blender. :p

You are SO CLOSE to 399. Can't wait to see it. :D

Justina & Laura, I am LOVING the vitamix. I am using the recipe book for some things, like soups. But I am also just winging it sometimes too. Everything has been edible, some have been better than others. The kids are eating fruit/veg smoothies every day so far. red cabbage, spinach, kale and carrots are part of their daily intake.

Cory, thanks for support! I weighed in today at 400.4, down another 1.8 pounds. Technically, I weighed less than 400 on half my weigh-ins (I do about 6-10 and take the middle reading) and 400.4 was my highest, but I just didn't want to claim 399 today and have a bounce back day tomorrow and be above 400 again. When I drop below 400, it will be the last time I'm in the 4's.

I had smoothies and soups 2 days ago and NONE yesterday... because it turns out all that fiber has a direct impact on your .... um.... "movements"... if you know what I mean. Starting today, I'll do just one green smoothie per day. :)

Did just under 8 miles on the bike again last night. I'm not sweating as much, so I may bump up the pace tonight.

Had an eggplant, mushroom, onion, Serrano pepper, and spinach omelet this morning. Yum. I really like eggplant in some things. Salad is scheduled for lunch and a green smoothie tonight, if all goes to plan.

Well, I'm calling it good today....

:smash: 399.4 pounds
:smash:

I am out of the 400's for good.... unless I bounce around this weekend again... :)
Goodbye 400s, I wish I could say it was nice knowing ya... but that would be a lie.

Enjoy the moment Don, you earned it. If you feel anything like I did on my 299 day, this is a very good day indeed.

Congrats, congrats, congrats.

299 down the road will feel just as good. :)

Thank you very much, everybody! You're an awesome support network.

Sorry I haven't been by your diaries yet this last day or so, but I've been very busy....and will be today as well. But I will swing by very soon and see how you're doing as well.

Quick weigh-in: Ate pizza (!!!!) last night! First time since December. It was brought home for everyone else, it looked SO good, and I convinced myself I deserved it... HAH! Anyway, I ate two pieces about 3 inches across the back and did NOT finish the crust. It was garlic chicken w/feta (SALT!) on whole wheat, so it could have been worse. I ate well otherwise yesterday, but also did NOT exercise. Weighed 398.8 this morning, down 0.6! It'll probably show tomorrow morning, but c'est la vie.

On the road today, so wish me luck. Water, water, water. Then some more water.

You earned the pizza, man (definitely need a comma between those last two words).

Wanted pizza a few weeks ago, and so I went to Domino's site and looked up their calorie information by weight for extra cheese pizza (Chicago style thin crusts have lotsa cheese). According to Domino's, 200 grams of their pizza is around 544 calories. So even though I didn't want to eat Domino's, I figured weight to calories it should probably be pretty close to the same ratio as the stuff from the transplanted Chicago place.

So now, every now and then I can have pizza if I want and still not go over my calories just by weighing it on my kitchen scale.

Congrats again on all the progress, and keep up the great work.

Mmmmm... that's tempting...but I'm hoping this weekend will be enough "sin" to keep me on the straight and narrow for the next 2.5 months. We'll see. Thanks for the kudos, MrVee.

Ate a terribly salty snack last night! Argh! I must have a diet death wish. But I ate well and still managed to exercise (7.3 miles at 30' on bike). But God smiled on me and kept the ball moving. I weighed in at 397.8, down 1.0 pounds. That's about 59 pounds since starting about 72 days ago.

On the road again, so hopefully will have time to visit many of you tonight.

Have a great Sunday!
