My Recovery from Obesity

I agree with Justina... slow and steady wins the race. I know what you mean about the weekends though, they are tough for me too. I hope you're having a good one. Also, you are doing great! The amount you have lost so far is awesome! :)

Thank you Justina and Jen! I know, I know. Patience....
NOT something I have mastered, yet, but I am working on it.. :)

Today's weigh-in was GREAT. I am down 1.6 pounds from yesterday for a total of 49.6 pounds. I currently weigh 407.4... which means (.......drum roll.........) if I lose another 0.4 pounds I'll be down 50 total. Obviously, this number has some weird significance to me. I couldn't explain why, though.

Yesterday I had only two meals: Huge breakfast omelet w/ spinach and mushrooms at 10 am, then a huge dinner salad w/ chopped chicken at 7 pm. In between I had a banana, an apple, some raw almonds, a pack of roasted seaweed (love that stuff), and a couple of bites of my wife's enchiladas...mmm. I drank water OK, but had too much coffee... which badly affects my body's water balance.

Best part of yesterday was that I finally hit 8 miles in my 30 minute stationary bike exercise. I've been building up to it all week: 6.72, 7.45, 7.53, 7.69, 7.24, 7.93 and then last night's 8.19 miles. That was a goal this week.

:party:You blew past 10% and didn't even announce your victory!

Granted I didn't make much of a challenge out of it, but you slayed it. Nice work and enjoy my sig!

I am NOT a talker, Q. ;)
Thanks very much for the kudos and thanks also for the challenge. That was a good motivator for me.
If you feel up to starting another one sometime... exercise, eating, weight loss, etc, let me know.

Well, I was on the road yesterday and just didn't feel like staying on point all day, so I slid a bit. Up 0.2 pounds to 407.6. I have ONE DAY left (Monday morning weigh-in) to drop the last 0.6 pounds to make a 50 lb loss in 60 days. I'm making a run at it (2X exercise) with good food and water all day. Win or lose, I'm pleased with the month.

hey - you can do it just for the sake of it - but it might not stay...
you could totally get a kick out if it! & could motivate you more!!
But as you said win or lose you are still a winnnnnnnnner!!!!! :D

Sooooooo?? I'm waiting in anticipation to hear if you hit the 50lbs mark!!! C'mon don't leave us hanging!

And congrats on the 8 mile bike ride!!! Thats awesome!

So eager to hear your progress, Don. And I loved how you said - whether or not you reach the 50 lb mark, you are still pleased with your progress!!! Way to go! I've lost 33 lbs so far and have been maintaining that for the past month which I am very pleased about. I big help for me has been drinking lemon squeezed into a cup of warm water each morning before I eat or drink anything else. Have you ever heard of that? I wrote a blog post about it on my blog. Anyway, seems to really help. Watching for your next post! Blessings, Amy

Hi Justina, Mands and Amy! Thanks very much for checking in on me... I really do appreciate the support.

OK, after getting to 49.6 pounds lost on Saturday, I had two, count'em TWO, gain days. Saturdays gain of 0.2 I've already mentioned, but Sunday's weigh-in was worse... I gained 0.9 pounds (and I was being nice to myself saying it was only 0.9). These gains were NOT due to overeating or eating junk, but rather due to being on the road where I ate light and untimely (too little food early in the day and too much food later in the day) and drank too little water.

So the result is that my second (30-day) month on this new plan ended UP a bit, finishing at -48.5 pounds. Slightly disappointing, but still very good for me. This means I lost 28.8 pounds in Month 1 and 19.7 pounds in Month 2.

Here is a chart showing my daily weight changes since starting on Jan 5th. What I like that it shows, is a consistent trend of losing days vs. holding/gaining days. I'm not losing as MUCH per day as time passes, but that's to be expected. The trend is what matters to me.

Month 3 Starts Today! My goal is to average about 0.5 lbs per day, or a total loss of 15 pounds this month. I'll do this by following my same plan, but adding more strength and abdominal exercises to the cardio I've been doing.

I've started the new month off well, by weighing in at 406.8 pounds today, which is down 1.7 pounds from yesterday. This means I have now lost 50.2 pounds!

Can you tell I was retaining some water from this weekend??

Congrats on reaching the 50 pounds! I sincerely hope month 3 is as good as months 1 and 2 were.

ehem.....so you think losing 48.5 lbs is slightly disappointing....hmmm *raises eyebrow* LOL - you should celebrate!!

Well done on the new low btw! Super Don Keykong! You defo had water retention!

Bring on the next month!!!

Oh damn, do I sound that bad? Ugh. Sorry about that!

I am REALLY happy to have lost the weight that I have so far.... REALLY!

My slight disappointment was about the stall I hit right at the end of the month... with only a half pound between me and my FIFTY pound loss. I am an unrelenting perfectionist once I tackle a project.... I may be a little OCD... may be... :)

Thanks ladies, for the support!

Congrats, my man. Fitty Cent is very proud of you.

399 is almost here!

Woohoo! If Fitty's happy, then I'm happy. Thanks, MrVee.

Today's weigh-in was good, down 0.8 pounds to 406 even.... I can smell 399!

To make life interesting, I joined a challenge on DietBet dot com. It costs $35 US to join, and I must lose 4% of my current body weight in 28 days. At the end of the 28 days, all those who ponied up the join fee AND who have lost at least 4% of their starting weight get to share the total pot. Nobody gets rich doing this, but it's a good way to put your money where your mouth is and be held accountable.

So, my plan for today is the same as yesterday. Eat, drink, and get sweaty... ok, that sounds gross... but you get what I mean. I started off well by making myself a giant 2 egg omelet filled with mushrooms, peppers, spinach, and squash, then topped with a quarter cup of cheese. This will be the biggest meal I eat today. As you can see, I am still eating well. :)

HAHA you are getting all the fun stuff from the guys.

ps/ Your omelet looks yum - i gonna include it on my menu next week!! :)

I just joined DietBet after reading your post above....I joined 2 games! Let's see how this goes!! one is $35 and the other one is $25!

Quercus: Niiice! The Queen is a handsome woman, isn't she? Hope you're hanging in there, buddy. Keep posting.

Justina: I've said before, you and I would get along really well eating together. Your food always looks good to me, too.

Laura: Good luck on the bets! I'm only in the one right now, but may do more afterward. I think you're in the same one I am... I'm Don G. Let me know your login there and I'll cheer you on.

-----------------------------------

I ate like a champion yesterday. Timed my meals well, ate biggest earliest then tapered off until my last meal was at 6pm: Omelet @ 9, Large Salad @ 1, bowl of Yellow Pea Soup (homemade) @6. Snacked on a banana, some raw almonds and some carrots between the meals. Drank moderately.... didn't float away, but kept hydrated. Biked 5.5 miles in 20 minutes (16.5 mph speed) then did some abs work.

Weighed 404.8 today, down 1.2 pounds! Yeah, baby! That's 3.7 pounds in three days... more than I lost in the six previous days combined.

Just doin' it, as Nike keeps telling me.
