My Journey to surf Again

BTW Fox, loving your little graphic design images. I'm assuming this is something you either do for a living or aspire to do for a living?

Quite nifty. I may have to commission something... :)

Sure I can make you a banner or something. It's something I was inspiring to do (went to school for graphic design but I need to get back into it).

Hey fox. Looks like your doing great. Keep it up.

Thanks! :D

Yikes! I'm 168.8lbs this morning, and that would probably be because of all the junk food I've been eating over the last couple of days. My birthday was yesterday and I ate two huge slices of pizza, it was delicious, but now I gotta get back on track to losing the weight and getting into the 50s. :D

View attachment 20810 163.8lbs! I guess it really was just water weight. I've been eating salad, all day long. A banana for breakfast, a huge Italian salad with potato salad for lunch and got a salad from Wendy's (Chicken BLT Cobb salad). :D

Also, I'm going surfing tomorrow. The waves look like they're gonna be rough and only waist high. I'm taking a 9ft out... and I'm really, really nervous. I'm still not in the best of shape but I hope I can at least get one wave in. Wish me luck!

well done dropping a little more, you don't need luck, your hard work will pay off for both your weight loss and your surfing !

I know, I say luck a lot. Hard work is definitely key to my success, but keeping myself motivated is the thing that keeps me going.

So, how did the surfing go?! I hope you enjoyed it! :)
It was tough, there were two times where I almost got up and either the wave died on me, or I was too far back on the board and the board sunk.
But there was that moment where the wave was good enough, I paddled enough and I got up. It wasn't a straight "pop-to-my-feet," I sort-of wobbled a little and was leaning too far back. I adjusted my weight forward to speed it up and found the "sweet spot," and road the white water a good 15 seconds to shore. When I hopped off I almost started crying with how happy I felt. It's been over 2 years since I've been up riding and it felt awesome to be back up again!

I still have a waaaaaaays to go though. I really, really gotta get myself in shape now. The waves were chest high, and trying to paddle out on The Foil was a hassle. I couldn't get past the breaks (even turtle roll'n and trying to paddle over) and I just ended up paddling in the white water. I need to think of a new challenge... hmm. How about this:

Starting tomorrow, my goal is to do at least 5 push-ups throughout the day. And than increase it by a little more each week.

So it will look something like this:

1st Week: 5 push-ups.
2nd Week: 6-10 push ups.
3rd Week: 10-15 push ups.
4th Week: 15 - 25 push ups.
5th Week: 25 - 35 push ups.
And than I'll see what I will do from there.

Also, as soon as I came in a guy who was body-boarding with fins came in and talked to me about my board. He immediately noted that it was a 70s board and it felt really good about how much he liked it. It reminded me when I was surfing in the past and I got strangers walking up to me asking about it or saying what a cool-looking board it was.
He mentioned a little shop down the street called Core Surf (used to be Cape Surf before the guy running it screwed things up) and said I should take it down there to be looked at. When I did bring it over there, the guy said it wouldn't be worth making it "new new," again. To professionally fix the dings/holes on it would run me 60.00 dollars... which isn't really worth it. I could fix it up myself for waaay less.

What I would really like is to try to find a place that can duplicate the board, get the same shape, foil, the whole deal and make a copy-cat of it. Get it customized, maybe a nice decal, idk. Maybe it will be my ultimate reward for getting to my goal weight, idk. Problem is that will cost a butt-load of cash...

Anyway, don't mind my rambling. Here's the board itself:

Actually, for the push-ups I might be trying this. A video on youtube titled: How To Do Push Ups For Beginners by Evilcyber.

have you considered doing some getups to go with those pushups?

there is a series of exercises targeting surfers (Red Bull Surf Challenge) levels 1-3 which has exercises which may help your surf fitness. If your interested I will post the routine.

Don't sell yourself short on your surfing. That you were able to get out there and get some done is a huge step. You should be very proud.

That would be awesome, thanks!

Thanks, I know I shouldn't get down on myself for not doing better. I know I did pretty good out there today. I just have that nagging feeling that I need to "up-the-game," and start working out more and focus more on my core and shoulders/arms. My leg strength is really good, I just need to get to the point where I can pop to my feet without that much effort. :)

Wow! I will definitely start doing these when I can do normal push-ups easily. ;)
But all that will definitely help later on, thanks! Perhaps, when I can do R.B.S.Ss I can get myself pumped up and out-surf my younger brother. That will be a day I look forward too.

My arms are crazy sore. Even raising them above my head kills me... maybe I should wait for my arms to mend before I start doing push ups, ugh.

I can't wait to get into shape.

Ugh, just tried doing 1 push up and it was pretty difficult. But I did it. Now it's off to the gym!

Yesterday I did 2 push-ups! Yeah!

But, today was horrible (actually, this week so far has been terrible)! LOTS of fast food and I just finished eating a slice of coconut pie. I weigh-in at 165 right now... but I'm terrified I will keep eating and eating!

I have been busy with moving, we are moving out of the tiny apartment and into an actual house... still not an excuse for my bad eating habits though. :(

Okay, so were all moved in and I have to say... the last two weeks I have been horrible with eating healthy. Lots of junk food, beer and very little greens. I can definitely feel the affects of all that crap in my system.

I've also been stressed-out. We are currently living with someone that has the idea that we don't appreciate that said person. That person thinks that we think he/she a b!(*# and we had confrontation last night where I was called, for the second time now: the "Queen of Sheba."

With that, my stress levels are at an all new high and I'm feeling really, really down. I know with that feeling I could be going to the gym to alleviate it but that will have to wait for when I get paid Thursday. I no longer have the free gym to go to so I gotta find some place that's pretty cheap.

I know this is a small chapter in my life and in the future I will look back at it and try to forget the bad memories, but right now it's hard to think positive. I just gotta keep in mind that I have someone in my life who loves me for me, that there are people out there who know me well enough and know that I'm not the terrible person that someone made me out to be. I don't take advantage of other people and I'm not cold-hearted.

With all that said and done I'm still pretty angry/sad. I don't know when I will calm down, but I know it won't be for a while.

Anyway, sorry about the rant but I really needed it. :)

Hopefully the rant was therapeutic. :D

Sometimes it's funny what causes us to want to eat even when it makes no sense. Eating because you're in a bad mood is like cleaning your kitchen because one of your shoelaces broke. I'm not sure what one has to do with the other. :D

But of course we've all done it. Long about November I wondered on my thread what to do when my usual method of dealing with feeling bummed out (eating) no longer is available. Music helps a little, but I haven't found much else beside trying to keep busy.

On the free gym front, can't help you there; I've spent a small fortune on personal training the last 11.5 months.

It was therapeutic. :D

Things are a LOT better now and have certainty calmed down. A few days ago my little pickup truck's brakes weren't working and I had to take it to the mechanic. Should be fixed and ready to go by the end of today, which is a huge relief.

And I haven't been eating that great lately, I have been trying to watch my calorie in-take and been restraining how much I've been eating. I know I will be losing a lot of water weight over the next couple of days too, but this morning I decided to get on the scale and see how much I weigh (and this was after drinking two cups of coffee and some water). I readily assumed that my weight would be around 166-168lbs, BUT the first time I got on the scale it read: 161.7lbs.

Me: "No no no no no. That's not right, let me try this again."
Steps on scale, still reads 161.7lbs.
Me: "No way!"
Steps on scale AGAIN... still reads 161.7lbs.
Me: "OMG I'm 161lbs!!!
And there's me running around the house like a lunatic, flapping my arms around crazily and bounding from room-to-room like I was some magical fairy who just learned how to fly.

I'm astounded and dumbfounded, really. I don't know how I could possibly be 161. Maybe it's some miracle of weight loss, maybe it's because I haven't been feasting on salad and have been eating ENOUGH calories to speed up my metabolism and burn the weight. Maybe it's just a bunch of water weight and I will gain some lbs over the next couple of days, idk. I haven't been working out, I haven't been eating like a rabbit (far from it, had a few beers over the last couple of days). But I'm just happy that the numbers I saw on that scale were that low.

Anyway, I will just bask in the glory of being a few lbs skinnier. 150s here I come! :D
