My Journey Continued: Fresh Slate For 2014!

Sounds to me from reading your posts here that you dont know how many calories you should be consuming each day, and no comprehension of what good food and proper exercise is... at the risk of sounding mean, which is not my intention... you should do more research and less diarying and listening to people tell you that you are doing well when your starving yourself, eating the wrong foods and rationalizing these poor nutritional decisions. Your legs give out on you during your taebow because your not eating enough... starvation diets have not, do not and never will work for sustained fat loss and in fact will add in fat gain. Hence the 8lbs of fat you put on over the December period. Do you realize that there are 3500 calories in a lb of body fat so x that by 8lb gain and you ate almost 28,000, yes twenty eight THOUSAND calories more than you burned up in energy over this period. Sorry for the honesty but you should read more about and become educated in the the science of nutrition and exercise and get educated from people that know how to do this properly and sustainably. It should be a life long quest and not a week to week day to day proposition.

One last thing... don't get mad, angry or depressed with this post GET DETERMINED and EDUCATED in making this a LIFE LONG ENDEAVOUR in becomming fit and healthy for life... for you will learn and findout first hand that if you do this properly then you will be able to eat more food than you ever have and still gain muscle and loss fat.

Throw the SCALES away, measure yourself, and find out your Lean Body Weight, so that you can calculate how many calories you need to consume each day to be energetic fit and healthy.

I can post here a mathimatical formula for you that requires only that you take 4 measurments and perform an 11 step mathimatical (all explained) equation to get an accurate bodyfat measurement, so that you know how much muscle mass you have and then plan accordingly for your energy output for the day. This is the only real and sustainable way to lose fat and keep it off.

If you want to put in the work then let me know and I will post the formula for you, and also try and get posted it as one of those sticky things. This is not a sales pitch, it will cost you nothing there are no websites to go to, nothing to purchase just some free and relevant information from a trainer with 30 years experience in the fat loss industry.

Since you have posted in a public forum and are looking for advice why don't you take some advice is that is relevant . I could ask you 3 questions that are basic in their nature to losing fat and keeping it off and I bet that you could not answer 1 accurately or honestly. Here is something for you to think about and I will not waste any more time giving you the information you obviously have no intention of ever seeking out... What is your LBW?... what is your macro nutrient breakdown c,p,f,f being carbs, protein, fat, fiber? how many calories a day are you expending?.... you will never hear from me again as I only deal with people that are truly serious about learning how to lose fat and keep it off for life. But at least be smart enough to figure these things out before seeking consolation about getting fatter over xmas. Knowing these things alone would have keep the weight off you over xmas without having to give up the treats... ignorance = ill health. bye bye

Leave her alone. Jesus Christ, man.

Ignore this douche, Mandy.

LOL every1sanexpert is your name - but you clearly think that you are the only person who knows what lean body weight is - or for that matter is able to use a tool like to analyse nutrients and indeed likely calorie burn... (I note you do not mention calcium and sodium in your little list - it is worth watching these too)... maybe everyone here is that much of an expert... Mandy mentions all these things and more in many of the 970 postings that she has made on this forum... I doubt that you have read many of these postings as there was less than an hour between your posting on a different topic entirely and you posting on her thread above. You only joined the forum 8 days ago and most people are far too busy to read 970 postings in that time if they read no other postings...

Many people know all about all these things - but this does not stop people from gaining weight over the Christmas. Christmas is a time of celebration and socialising - and many events involve eating and drinking... From the christmas cake to the christmas pudding and brandy sauce to mince pies with brandy butter. Many traditional treats are calorie laden and people feel deprived if they do not indulge... People go to parties and have high sodium and possibly high calorie nibbles... All the education in the world does not stop these things from being tempting... The most successful result comes from a lifelong change of lifestyle - and this means meeting temptation head-on and not rejecting those party invitations...

Skinny people often gain a bit at Christmas and address it afterwards...

Strange - when you consider yourself to be an expert - that you use sweeping generalisation and inaccuracy in your earlier posting... Saying that someone must have eaten 28,000 calories over Christmas if they had gained 8 pounds is very simplistic. Much of that gain - especially in someone that had been watching their weight before the Christmas period is likely to be water retention due to having eaten a high sodium diet... On this forum we have often seen people lose as much as 7 or 8 pounds during their first week back on track. Such a loss is not because they have had a calorie deficit of 28,000 calories that week... It is more likely because they have returned to eating healthily, got back to doing exercise and have got back to drinking water at an adequate level.

People do tend to get demoralised however when they see that 8 pound gain - and this is where forums and indeed the support network that they build using such tools as their diary comes to the fore. The support can convince them that they are not doing a hopeless task and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. That it is worth getting back on track... In my opinion this is why a lot of people post on forums... Especially in their diaries... If they have a question about how to proceed they will take it to a more appropriate thread or ask someone that they trust...

Your posting does come across as rude to Mandy - I suspect that Mandy hopes that you are true to your word with "bye bye".

Omega – Thanks for posting what you did. It’s really nice to hear from someone who… well, let’s face it… has a clue!

~~

As for you “Mr. Expert”, I don’t know why I feel the need to explain myself to you because you’re really not worth the time, but here goes…

In late Nov one of my pet’s health declined fast. I’m a stress eater. Seeing his health go from bad to worst stressed the hell out of me. As a result, I ate more than I should have. That went on for 2 weeks while I was focusing my time and energy on getting him well. On 12/12 I had this pet put to sleep. Again, I ate more than I should have. Then it was the holidays. Family get togethers, Christmas parties, etc… once again, I ate more than I should have. I KNOW I have issues eating when I’m under stress. It’s my way of coping with life, but I am working towards correcting that. You have absolutely NO idea what I went through in 2013. To summarize, in Jan I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (prior to that I spent months in debilitating pain and could NOT physically exercise). In April I lost my closest aunt to cancer. In August I lost both grandparents on my mom’s side of the family just 8 days apart. Then in December I lost a pet. It was a BAD year for me, yet I still managed to lose weight overall and I went down several pant sizes.

As for my 8lb gain over the holidays, I’ve already lost 3lb of that weight since 1/1/14. It was on 1/6/14 that I recommitted myself to this. Anyway, since 1/1/14 I’ve lost 3lb in 2 weeks which averages out to 1.5lb a week. Since the recommended weight loss is 1-2lb a week and I’m right smack dab in the middle, I think it’s safe to say I’m on the road to getting back on track.

I gladly accept advice when it’s given in a constructive manner. Yours did NOT come across like that, therefore I’m not interested in what you have to say going forward. This is my diary. This is where I post day to day updates. If I was really seeking serious advice on a certain topic, as Omega said, I’d post it in the specific forum. And, as for your claim about me not taking weight loss seriously? How on earth would you know that? Just because I’m not listening to what YOU said? You may think you’re an expert, but I certainly do not think so. If I wasn’t serious about this why would I have changed my schedule around so I’m now getting up at 4:45am to get my work outs in? Why would I continuously be looking for new low fat/low calorie recipes to try? Why would I be drinking only water, and lots of it? I could go on, but what’s the point. You DO NOT know me so you have absolutely no right to say what you’re saying about me. Oh, and I’m not looking for consolation for gaining weight over the holidays. If you really had read my posts you’d see that I openly admitted that I took a break from diet and exercise and that I don’t regret it one bit. It is what it is. I needed a break mentally. It was my way of coping. Not once did I ask for anyone’s sympathy.

Also, one last thing. You see that little picture under my posts? That’s called a ticker. If you look closely, you’ll see that I’ve lost 50lb. Now you tell me. If I was really ignorant about diet and exercise would I really have been able to lose that much weight HEALTHILY? I know what I’m doing. I have my share of slip ups, but I pick myself up and carry on.

With that said… please do me a favor and stay away. You may consider yourself an expert, but I can say that your people skills are definitely lacking. I am not interested in anything else that you have to say. I was doing fine before you joined this forum and I’ll continue on just fine without you. Buh bye now!!

I tried a new recipe last night. Orange-mustard glazed pork chops. It's a Cooking Light recipe and man was it delicious. I'm definitely adding it to my rotation! :)

Down to 198.6lb this morning! Getting closer and closer to being back to my low. :)

My dog gave me a big scare last night. She woke up a little bit past 11pm stumbling out of bed. I'm not sure what happened, but she would not put any weight on her hind leg. I was debating on taking her to the ER, but decided to give her the chance to sleep it off. I ended up pulling my mattress off of my bed and put it on the floor so she didn't have to jump up or down. In doing so I lost my exercise room so I didn't get to do it this morning. I'll either use this as my rest day or try to sneak it in tonight. This morning she seems to be fine so tomorrow should be back to normal. :)

Woah! your diary has been busy ;) another low Mandy :hurray: i would keep my weigh in time the same every day weather it's before or after a workout. nice to see new lows especially after working hard :D

Sorry about the troll in your diary. :/

Your food sounds really good though! Is Cooking Light a website? Glad your dog is ok.

Thanks Angel and Cory. I definitely agree that person is just a troll trying to stir the pot. It was very uncalled for and reading his other posts I'm not the only one he's going after. The mods are handling the situation which I appreciate. No more on that! :)

~~

I decided to do what you suggested Angel. I'm going back to my old weigh in times. It'll just be more convenient to keep with that time on the weekends. So, I'll be weighing in at around 6:00am every morning. This morning's weigh in was 197.4lb!! That was after my workout and shower however so I have a feeling that tomorrow will be higher than that. We'll have to see.

My goal is to do Taebo workouts Mon-Fri and I'll be using either Saturday or Sunday as my rest day and some other form of exercise on the other day. Tomorrow will be a bit warmer than usual so I'm hoping to take advantage of that to bring my dogs for walks. I have some errands to run which will take a good chunk of the day so we'll see if it works or not.

I decided to mix things up and give Jillian Michael's 30 day shred a try. I kind of feel like I'm cheating on Billy Blanks, but I wanted something different. I watched the 30DS last night and said, "oh that looks pretty easy". Well, looks can be deceiving. It's a lot harder than it looks. It kind of kicked my ass. LOL I stuck it out though and go through it. It was rough on my knees and if they feel bad at all I'll have to stop, but hopefully I'll get through the 30 days.

This morning's weigh in, pre workout, was 197.8lb. Up just a smidge from yesterday. :)

I reported the jackass on the last page as spam for you and gave OL' "expert" a negative rep comment. The little triangle with the "!" in it lets you report spam like that and you can hit the rep badge and choose "I dissaprove" with a sweet remark like mine "SPAM and/or MORONIC JERK!".

Also you can click on user's name and "view profile" and "add to ignore list" which will make all of their current and future posts dissapear. I've done that now with that one.

Sorry to bring it back up, I just wanted you to know your options in case you didn't know.

Enough of that. You have been doing wonderfully on exercise and your weight is doing well. Too bad I'll have to beat you in the contest though. :D

Mmmmh....that sounds delicious. Would you share the recipe, please? I'm desperately looking for new recipes. And I'm glad that your dog seemed fine in the morning. My cat has done that before, suddenly limping for no apparent reason, but a few hours later he was right as rain. Still gives you a scare.

Hi Q, thanks for letting me know. I did know about the reporting people thing, but had no clue on giving negative reputation points. Good to know! :) Hey, I thought this challenge was to be for fun! Sounds like you're out for blood!! ;)

San, I'm assuming you're talking about the orange mustard glazed pork chop recipe? If so, here's a link to the recipe. :)

I made this one last week too and it was delicious. I could've eaten all of the potatoes they were so good, but I held back. ;)

Tonight we're trying this one. We're not doing the wild rice though. We're making potatoes using the lemon mix from the recipe above. I'll let you know how it is later. :)

I've been looking for lots of new recipes too. Tired of eating the same things week after week and also tired of frozen meals. I need more healthy, whole foods! I'll be glad to share recipes as I try stuff so keep checking back. :)

My dog is back at 100% thankfully. She must've just tweeked it enough to cause pain that night, but she's back to her non stop, high energy self again. :)

Wow, so I may be a bit late on this... but damn, that "expert" guy was such a prick. Perhaps he/she did have good intentions, but it most certainly came out the wrong way. You should NEVER have to explain yourself to anyone - except perhaps your Doctor, or a REAL health professional - about your eating and exercise habits. I don't understand why people feel the need to turn everything into a 'science' or formula: (x-calories in) - (x-calories out) = weight loss? Why do we need to complicate things to such a level?

Its not rocket science. In fact, its rather simple, really. Its about DEDICATION. Its about DETERMINATION. Its about HOLDING YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE. And people have different ways of doing this. If you want to go the whole technical route and calculate every single last calorie, gram, inch, pound... go ahead. To each, his own. But public forum or not, that does NOT give someone the right to shove their specific views and opinions down someone else's throat simply because they do not 'agree' with their specific way of doing things. And most certainly not in such a degrading way.

NEVER let someone put you down. You're BETTER than that and you DESERVE to be treated with respect. You've come this far on your journey and you know what best works for you. You are amazing, and never forget that!

Hey Mandy! You are doing so well I'm super proud of you! I've gained back tons more than you did during my "relapse period"!. I feel so frustrated but its an ongoing journey no point beating yourself just make better choices in the future right? Anywho a friend sent me this link and I thought you might be interested in checking it out as you sometimes have oatmeal for breakfast. I may have beat you to 'one'derland but rushy pants pandy regained and now your kicking my ass!

Keep it up girl!

<

Mandy, nice job over the last couple of days! I think it's good you tried a new workout. Variety can be very important. Just please do be careful with the knees. You only have two. :p

Ms. Pia, thanks for stopping in. Yes, I do agree that I deserve better. We ALL deserve better! Hoepfully this person will not be back to try to bring anyone down again.

Slickzchik, sorry you’ve gained. :( It’s not fun, I know, BUT you are right. There’s no point in beating ourselves up. We’re in this for life. We just have to brush ourselves off and start working towards our goals again. I’m sure you will have no problem at all getting back down to onederland. Just dig deep and find that determination again. :) Thanks for posting that link. I did click on it, but it says Page Not Found. I can try to search for it though. :)

Cory, oddly enough my knees have been great! Same for my ankles and hips. It’s muscle soreness that I’m dealing with right now. Which of course I expected. At the first sign of soreness in any of my joints I will need to reassess to see if it’s worth continuing or not.

~~

I probably should’ve used today as my rest day. I woke up very sore. Mostly in my thighs and my abs. I debated on what I should do. Should I rest? Should I just walk on the treadmill? Should I go for day 2 of the shred? My decision was…. Day 2 of the shred! Once I got going the soreness went away and I got through the workout pretty smoothly. I’m struggling with the push ups and I did do modified jumping jacks during most of the reps, but overall it went really well. Of course now that I’m showered and relaxed my muscles in my thighs are screaming at me again. Oh well… it’s manageable.

My mom and I went shopping yesterday afternoon to get the snorkeling gear for our trip in March. For those who don’t know, we’re going to the Dominican Republic to go snorkeling with the humpback whales. I can’t believe we’re just weeks away now!

Anyway, mom got the largest wet suit they had in stock (size 12), but they were out of larger suits. The lady at the store is ordering sizes 14 and 16 for me to try. I’m going to ask what their return policy is because if I get a suit and lose inches from this 30 Day Shred workout I don’t want to get stuck with a suit too big. I’m not expecting to lose that much, but I don’t want to spend all that money to find out the suit won’t work!

This morning’s weigh in was 198lb even. I’m not surprised because I ate just a little bit later last night AND I had a lot of potatoes. They were just soooooooo good! Yesterday was cheat day so it’s all good. :)

We have family coming over this afternoon to watch the Pats game so we may end up ordering pizza. We’ll see. I’m trying to eat lightly throughout the day to save the calorie space. :)

Oh, and SAN, that pork recipe we tried last night was ok. Couldn’t really taste the apple juice in the pork, but it was really tender. :)

Yepp, I meant the glazed pork, and thanks so much for the links. I am in the same boat here, tired of eating the same stuff, and tired of microwave meals. They are convenient, yes, but it just gets so boring....so I want to start making some better stuff. Especially now that my husband finally decided to try and lose some weight as well, and I want to work on my health for other reasons as well, so....yeah. Loads of recipe input needed. Thanks again for sharing the links! :)

MrVee - This trip has been two years in the making! It's an expensive trip which required a lot of saving our pennies and even still we're cutting it close. My mom and I are going with another mom/daughter duo that we met on our trips out of Gloucester too so it'll be nice sharing memories with them. I have to say that we've met some amazing people through our love for whales. :) It'll truly be a trip of a lifetime, although I must say that building in your photo is really inviting too! ;)

San, I completely hear you! One of my goals this year is to expand my "menu" and to try a lot of new things. So far I have been with results. :) Here are a couple more that I'll be trying this week.

~~

So today I had a good day. Dinner wasn't the greatest. We had fried chicken and French fries, but I ate lightly.. very lightly.. in anticipation of eating something like this for dinner so I hope it won't be as bad as I thought.

I'm not sure if I'm going to exercise tomorrow or not. I may rest. I'm feeling VERY sore right now from the 30DS and my thighs and upper arms hurt a lot if I move the wrong way.... or walk... LOL So, we'll see how I feel in the AM.

Well, I had a very hard time falling asleep last night and didn't sleep well once I did fall asleep. When my alarm went off I was surprised that I wasn't that sore anymore, but then I moved and realized I was still sore. Not quite as bad as yesterday, but still sore. Since I didn't sleep well I decided to hit the snooze button and rest today. I'm at work, no getting out of that, but I'll be skipping a workout today. I'll pick up again tomorrow for day 3 of the 30DS. :)

Weighed in at 197.2lb this morning. A new low for 2014, although not my new low of all.
