My Journey Continued: Fresh Slate For 2014!

I had a pretty bad night too... For some reason, exercise doesn't seem to help me sleep better (or more, for that matter), and I'm still trying to figure out what actually works.

I don't usually sleep too much (I'd say 5-6 hours) and I wake up several times during that time, which just makes matters worse.

Congrats on the low! I hope you get to your lowest weight soon. :)

Jillian Michael's workouts are tough! I remember doing BFBF a couple times, and it was absolute torture, specially on legs... I could never actually make it past the 25 min.

I hope you have a great week. Take care Mandy! :grouphug:

Nice job with this year's low! I hate nights like that. They pretty much ruin my day. :/

Athala, you're right! Jillian's workouts are TOUGH! I watched the whole thing the night before I tried it and thought, "eh, looks easy enough". It was really hard! I wasn't expecting to get as sore as I did either. Man it hurt!

Cory, yeah it does kind of set the mood for a crappy day. Yesterday wasn't too bad thankfully. I was just tired.

~~

So, I'm still sore from the 30DS, but it's not the painful sore anymore. Now it actually feels kind of good when I stretch. Yesterday it hurt to stretch so that's a good sign. I did sleep well last night and even though I did not want to budge from bed this morning I got up and did the workout. It went well. I thought I'd be able to keep up better than I am able to because of the cardio involved with Taebo, but this workout is definitely different. I'm getting better though.

My weigh in this morning was 197.4lb. That's around where I've been stuck for the past few days and that number sounded pretty familiar to me. I checked my chart from last year and I stalled at this weight in Oct (it may have been Nov, can't remember now), but then I had my big drop down to 195's. So hopefully that trend will happen again.

My TOM is around the corner too so it may be water weight that's holding me back. Either way, I'm not letting it bother me. I'm just going to keep eating well and exercising. Whatever the scale says, the scale says.

I completed day 4 of the 30DS this morning. It's still difficult, but it's getting easier. I'm still not able to do the full workout without stopping for a few seconds to catch my breath. It's the going from jumping jacks to the jump rope move that gets me really winded. I'm getting there though.

I leave work early today and I've been thinking of doing a Taebo session mattering on how I feel. I'm no longer sore so I should be able to do it. It's just getting the motivation. I'd like to get Taebo in at least 3 days a week (looking like Wed, Fri, and Sat or Sun) just to get some additional cardio in.

New low for 2014 this morning too. I weighed in at 196.8lb. So far in January I've lost 5.8lb and I'm just 1.8lb away from my all time low. I can't wait to hit 195lb even because from then on it'll be all new lows. :)

Will get caught up on diaries tonight. I've had a couple of busy nights with no time to read and comment.

You are doing really well Mandy. I've watched the 30DS and it looks like hard work. And you are thinking about taebo to, be proud!

Thanks Clarissa! There are several Taebo workouts I can choose from. If I do it today it'll be the lighter one which is only like 35 minutes long and while it does include mostly cardio, it's not very intense. The 30DS is tough, but the payoff is that it's only about a half hour to fight through! It says it's a 20 minute workout, but I do a warm up, a cool down, and stretches she doesn't show on DVD so it takes a bit longer. My thighs have gotten a bit sore throughout the day so we'll see how I feel when I get home. :)

I've always thought about doing videos. I have a treadmill now, which is freaking awesome. I love walking. I could walk 2 hours a day easy, but, now I can only do 30min (sadsad). I love kick boxing and stuff like that, so I figured someday I want to learn it! Nothing better than punching that weight off, yeah?

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, would you be willing to PM me the link to the Taebo workout's you use? I believe you mentioned them being on youtube?

All that aside, holy crap! You lost a lot of weight, I wish I were you right now! Man, I miss 199 like it were yesterday. You're gorgeous too! Totally inspirational, I'm gonna follow the stuffing out of your thread now!

All I can think of when when I hear the words "Tae Bo" is Billy Blanks and spandex... scary...haha! I used to do the videos when they were the all the rage. I always thought they were fun though. Looks like you're doing great. I'm sure you'll see 195 very soon! :)

You'll get there with that 30DS! And think of how you'll feel when you can get through the whole thing without stopping. :]

Loch, thanks for your very kind words! :) I have no problem at all with sending you those Youtube links. I'll send them tonight. I will warn you that to begin, it is very discouraging because it's so hard to keep up. I had a really hard time to start because it's kind fo fast paced and I'm not very coordinated at all, but practice makes perfect. The more you do it, the "easier" it gets. Just do the best you can and don't quit. The more you do it, the stronger you'll get and the more your endurance and stamina will improve. Even Billy says if you need to take a break, take a break. Just be sure to come back and finish the workout. :)

Jen, I have to admit I do love Billy Blanks. There's something about him that I find really intriguing. He's a great motivator, maybe that's why I like him so much. I will say that the one thing that drives me nuts about him is he'll say "last set" and then when you finish he says "one more time". I hate those inaccurate counts, but in the end they do help so it's forgiveable. :)

Cory, I almost made it all the way through it today, but had to pause it because the bottom of my left foot felt like it was ready to cramp up. I walked it out for a minute or so and then started up again. It is getting easier, but is still quite challenging. I'm not moving on to level 2 until I can do level 1 without stopping.

~~

I did end up doing a Taebo session last night. It was the lighter one, but it's still great for cardio. I'm going try again for tomorrow night and one day over the weekend. My 30DS went well this morning. I'm still have issues with some thigh soreness. Especially my left thigh when I try to do the side lunges. I can't really go down that far because it hurts a bit. The rest of it is getting better. I'm able to do ALL of the push ups now which is one set for 30 seconds and a 2nd for 30 seconds. Overall, I'm very happy with how I'm progressing.

I also VERY VERY happy to report my weight this morning. I weighed in at 195lb even which is my all time low! That's down from 196.8lb yesterday so I'm not sure if this is just one of those fluke fluctuations or if it's for real. We'll see tomorrow I guess. Either way, just seeing that number again was a great feeling. Hopefully tomorrow will be a new low overall. :)

Great job everyone. I was in a good routine for about 18mos., and hurt my elbow exercising of all things. The problem with that is when I felt better enough to continue I didn't because it was Thanksgiving/Holiday time. Blew of eating right for the remainder of the year and managed to gain 25lbs. back since then. Back in it now and was able to drop 9lbs last week. This is a good place to seek motivation and stay focused. Best of luck to you in 2014!

I have a question and would like some feedback from as many people as possible. I remember when Tae Bo was the best thing around too. I used to teach a cardio kickboxing type class at a local gym here. I used the free standing heavy bags and I got a really good response from everybody that attended the class. I've looked all over the internet to find instructional workout videos that utilize a bag or a BOB dummy and can't find any. The philosophy for me behind using something that you can actually hit is that you can really go hard and burn even more calories. People in the class really enjoyed when I would have them do self-defense combos on the bags. I was considering making a "pilot" video using the BOB dummy and create a 20-30 min routine. Every cardio kickboxing routine that I can find is more or less all the same "shadow boxing", which are good workouts and anything that does involve a bag or prop is a really short demo on how to do just one thing i.e. kneeing the bag. I've done the P90X "Kenpo X" (quotes because it's hardly Kenpo). Anyway, would any of you consider trying something like that for a cardio workout? If so, maybe you all could try it out when I do it and give me some feedback.

Thanks!

Mandy, You're making me feel lazy! Would you mind also pming me the link to the Taebo workouts that you use. I'm very curious. You are going great guns sweetie & will see a drop soon I'm sure. Cheers, xo Cate

Mr. Smack, I think you’d be better off posting your question as a new thread instead of a reply to mine. Not everyone checks the diary section every day so your posts will get buried fast. To answer your question though, I am a fan of Taebo, but I don’t the room for “real” equipment where I work out. If I was going to the gym and saw you had a class going, yeah I’d probably check it out. :)

Cate, I don’t mind at all. I’ll send you those links in a few minutes. As for me being so energetic… yeah… not so much. LOL The morning exercise I do to get it out of the way so I can have my nights to cook proper dinners. Adding a bit of Taebo back in is to just get some more cardio in. The Jillian Michaels workout is great for strength, but the cardio is lacking. A good mix is good. :)

Cory, I’m hoping to be below 195 tomorrow. I did hit 195 last year, but that’s the lowest I got. Anything below 195 will be awesome! :)

Loch and Cate, I sent both of you those links, but the PM isn't showing in my sent folder. If you didn't get it let me know.

Great progress in just a few short weeks, Mandy! Congrats on the new low, and I'm sure you will be below 195 soon, if not tomorrow.

Thanks guys! Today's weigh in was 195.2lb so I'm not below my low yet. Oh well, I'm VERY happy to have gotten here so quickly! :)

I did the 30DS this morning and was planning on Taebo tonight, but remembered I have a few errands to run after work so I might not have the time. Still hoping to get it in over the weekend. We'll see!

Five weeks from today we'll be heading down to the Dominican for our trip. I'm super excited! I can't believe how close it is, but yet it still feels so far away. I'm sure these 5 weeks will fly by though. :)

Disappointment turned into happiness today. I was disappointed because the last couple of days I weighed in at 195+. This morning, the stupid scale said 196.6lb. No idea why, but whatever. Now the happiness part! I ordered a bathing suit last weekend so I'd have one to take to the Dominican (I threw the one I had away because it was falling apart). I tried it on and amazingly not only did it fit, but I thought it looked pretty darn good on me! I still don't feel comfortable wearing just a bathing suit so I'll still be wearing some type of cover up over it, but it was nice to actually like what I saw for a change! :)

Oh, and the wet suits came in and that fit as well. I had to get the larger of the two sizes, but the embarrassment of having to get another size special ordered wasn't a factor. :)
