My dairy

Hey Spark, just stopping by to see how things are going in your world. Your shins sound like agony! I know there is a way to wrap your feet and ankles to reduce the pain, I'd suggest a google search for that. I remember having shin splints in high school when I was on the cross country team. My coach wrapped my feet and ankles to reduce the pain, and yes, ice those puppies too!

Thanks for all the replies, my shin pain is completely gone today.

I got on the scale today, I'm 234 now. So that's a loss of 6 lbs total. I excerised alot yesterday, walked probably 3 miles and ran too (I think I did, maybe not, hmm)

Decided to just crash last night and not get up the morning, well I woke up at 1:50 PM! I slept in, normally this wouldn't be a problem but now it is because that means I've missed breakfast and I'm not sure how to comphensate. I still got the rest of that panda express food in the fridge I was thinking I should finish that off, but decided not to.

Here's what I've had so far:
8/5/09
Target cal: 2000
Breakfast:
The usual multi-grain cereal apple cinnamon with skim milk
(150 + 80 = 230)
A serving of better cheddar crackers
(160)
Celery with healthy hummus (19 + 50 = 69)
A banana (109)
Cal: 568
Wow, that really adds up. Since I basically missed breakfast because I slept in, what should I do? Should I eat a ham sandwich or something in a couple hours? I'm going to go get on my excerise bike and watch TV while I excerise today

I did the exercise bike for 40 minutes as well. Definitely not my thing, even while watching TV it was too tempting to just step off it when I get tired. I took a nice long soak in a hot bath to relax my muscles, I notice a big difference! Of course, I got yelled at by my dad for using so much water, and after doing 40 minutes on the bike (I was aiming for 1 hour) it broke, something came loose, and I don't know how to fix it. I asked my dad to fix it and he says he won't because of the way I treat him. (He got really mad I used the water for a bath)

My shin pain is completely gone now, and I feel full and energized. I think I just may go running tomorrow, we'll see.

I'll keep ya'll updated

DON'T RUN. :) Read what I wrote about about hairline fractures and don't run. When you have that kind of pain you need to give your body time to heal. One more day won't kill you and it will give your body a chance to really mend. Don't make me put on the MeanKara face. I will. ;)

About missing breakfast, don't worry about it. Just eat like you usually would and add in an extra snack at the end of the day or even just push meals back - have breakfast at 1 p.m., and so forth - squish everything together a bit more.

It doesn't so much matter that you eat specific meals as it does that you get in a healthy amount of calories (not too many, not too few). Sometimes on Sundays I sleep in well past noon (especially if I've had a wedding the night before) and just get up and eat lunch.

lol, mean kara face :D

I'll take tomorrow off running too then. I remember hearing about rewards and even though I only lost 6 lbs, I want to get a bike as my reward. Hopefully I can pick one up today..I used to ride a bike when I was thinner. I never really enjoyed running, was never good at it. But I've always enjoyed riding a bike. I'm actually kind of torn on what to do, I would love to be able to run a mile non stop, but I don't really enjoy running. I want to make excerise more fun, and swimming and bike riding I love. Running seems more convenient though because you don't need to a bike to go running, you can do it anywhere. On a vacation? Sure, you can run. Away from home, dont' have a bike? Yep, run.

:D

Bike running is awesome - I would definitely reward yourself that way. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be able to run a mile, but it might be something that you need to work towards. Bike riding will let you build cardio stamina while not stressing your joints and shins.

I'd say go for it. I miss having a bike - mine got stolen a few years ago and I never replaced it. I really should because I could ride to the grocery store from my house and it would be a great additional bit of exercise and motion for me.

Congratulations on losing 6 lbs! you must feel so happy about that!! Now we're tied :) lol..

Bike riding sounds like fun.. I haven't done that since I was a kid- I miss my pink Huffy :(

I'd love to go bike riding around my neighborhood later in the evening, when it's really nice out like this- ahhh maybe another year! Or.. maybe roller blading... now that might be a fun thing for me to do! I may add in something fun like that.. we'll see ... good job on the loss!!

Roller blading is fun, I used to roller skate at a skating ring often, I got pretty good at it when I was a kid. My dad used to be the referrie at the roller ring...biking seems more fun than running for me, easier on the joints, you can go faster, it's fun to see how fast you can go. I remember going down a huge hill when I used to ride my bike when I was a kid, we must've been going 40 MPH. I used to be able to go 30 MPH on my bike on an even surface, it was fun.

I'm going to make it a goal of mine to go 5 miles (one way) to the local coin shop...with my bike. So 10 miles total, I'll get there and back.

Good job on your weight loss too and sticking with it.

YOu know, I have a pair of blades in the hall closet and I haven't ever used them. I bought them a couple of years ago with the idea that I'd learn how and never did.

I should do that this weekend. Yeah. That'll be my goal for this weekend to become at least somewhat proficient on roller blades. Oh how fun!!!

Looks like I'm not getting a bike after all, parents won't let me.

They say:
A) I'm too heavy for the bicycle, I'll pop the tire
B) The tire will get thorns in it and I'll have to constantly replace it
C) We have "no room" to store it

This is absolutely ridiculous and absurd, really upsetting. I'm going to go take a nap. I can't deal with this.

Roller blading is fun
oh my gosh I used to absolutely love roller-blading. I should so get back into that!
thanks for the great idea!

I'm sorry to hear you won't be getting a bike. You know when I heard bad news or when something sad happened I used to binge eat and then make myself throw up. Now I just binge eat and let it all go to my thighs :D but then I took a kickboxing class and learnt that it's SO much more fun to channel your rage/ emotions through exercise rather than food. You should use not getting a bike as motivation for reaching a goal weight! When you reach it you should hire a bike, show your parents that it wouldn't break because of your weight and that'll teach them! There is great power in constructive revenge :)

psh! Your parents are crazy. I weighed more then you and still used my bike. Go for an all steel frame one with no shocks. I know it doesn't look cool but aluminum isn't made for bigger people. And you really think they'd make tires that let thorns through them? sheesh. As for popping the tire, tires have different weight limits, if you go to a proper store they can explain it all to you. They're on something!

and like Makemehappy said just use it as motivation to get your goal weight! Dont let it get you down, you can do it :D you're doing great so far!

Make a deal with your parents, if you lose X number of lbs, they will help you buy a bike. Bikes can hold all sorts of heavies, trust me, I rode my Schwinn mountain bike when I was 260 lbs, the tires didn't pop, the frame didn't crumble beneath me. My boss is over 350 and she has a rocking schwinn cruiser that she rides to work two or three times a week in the summer and it only has street tires on it. AND, I've never met a mountain terrain bike tire that couldn't withstand a thorn, a nail or a huge piece of rusty shrapnel left over from WWII. I just keep extra tubes in my pack and always ride the trails with a portable pump.

Don't let this get you down. Someday you will be the proud owner of a bike if you learn the fine art of parental manipulation. I know, I'm a practiced parental manipulator.

Totally agree. I rode my bike when I was over 200 and good grief .. it's not like you'll be in the wilds of Borneo. You're riding on city streets, right? Even if you do get something in a tire, that's what they make patch kits for.

Start pinching your pennies and watching for sales. Or check craigslist in your area (I can't remember - are you in the States?).

Well heh, I did it.

I was out with my peer support john. Yesterday I did some research on bikes and brands, looking for the best type. I searched walmart online looking for good bikes. The other bike I had, the tire got a thorn in it so I wanted to do that with my next bike purchase, but I couldn't afford it. First, we went to the mall. I a salad from paradise bakery with mandarin oranges, walnuts, strawberries, blueberries, cucumbers, carrots, and basmaic vinegar dressing. The salad was HUGE! I'm guessing it had 600 calories or so in it, just because of all the fruit and how big it was. I could've gotten the smaller one, but I got the larger size salad, didn't look that big at first, then I began eating it. It never ended! Must've taken me 1 hour to finish it.

I have to say this first out, I'm very impulsive and impatient. It's just my nature. After the mall we went to a 1 dollar movie and saw Angels and demons. It was tortuously long, and so boring I almost fell asleep. Not my type of movie. John didn't like it much either (my friend). After that, we went to the local bike shop. Now this is a shop that carries brand name, specialty bikes, better than what you'll find at walmart usually.

Well, I bought an aluminum-alloy frame Giant Sedona, with front and back shocks, 21 shifts and has a nice seat too. I went full out, and spent ALOT on it ($411), but I'm happy I got a great bike that will last. I can't wait to ride it tomorrow, I would've gotten the anti-flat tire as well, but I Just couldn't afford that as well, I was already in my limit. I'm pretty sure giant is a great brand and makes quality bikes, I'm going to do some additional research on it. I'm stuck with it, so I can't return it, my dad's upset I spent that much (It's a mid-range bike), my mom is going to flip, but I'm happy.

Breakfast:
Large Salad with walnuts, strawberries, blueberries, mandarin oranges, cucumbers, carrots, red onions, and spinach and lettuce.
~600 cal
Lunch:
A turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread
(50 + 70 x 2 = 50 + 140 = 190)
60 cal yogurt (60)
A overripe peach (86)
Serving of carrots (35)
1 8 oz glass of sunny D
(90)
Total cal: ~1061
