Mizzie's Journey to Being Healthy

I don't have a lot of time, we are leaving soon for an impromptu trip to the zoo (3 hours away). But I've been thinking lately that maybe I'm eating too many calories. I mean, I'm staying right where I should be according to My Plate, but it's possible that either my metabolism is slower or that I set my activity level too high.

Right not it's at "Moderately Active" since I get to the gym 4-5 times a week. And that has me at 1600 calories a day. But I'm going to try to kick that back down to about 1300 and see if that helps at all.

Anyway, got to go! ^_^

So, I'm kind of excited. On our way to the zoo yesterday, we randomly happened to spot a scuba shop, so we stopped in. I am very close to earning my scuba mask (50 pounds lost), so I tried on a bunch of masks. It can be difficult to find one that really fits your face well and thus, won't leak. But I think I found one that will work well for me. I'm only 1 1/2 pounds away, so I'm very close and I can't wait to get it!!! Now I just need to decide what color to get...

Just got done in the exercise room. I didn't have as much time today since I got a late start and i have a lot to do today, so I tried to up the intensity. Mostly I did a slightly higher weight on everything (one number higher on the machines, 10 pounds instead of five on the bench press, etc) and found I could do it with a little more effort. I felt very strong and proud of myself. There's no way I could have done that a few months ago!

I've also set a new mini goal for myself. Originally I was thinking that I'd be at my first goal weight (150) by my birthday on Oct 1, but now I see that won't happen. So, I'm hoping to have lost 60 pounds by then which would put me at 159.8. We shall see.

Hey Mizzie, thanks so much for dropping in on my journal :)

You're doing so well - I can't wait til I'm 50lbs down. It must feel great to have come so far! I'm glad you're rewarding yourself for all that hard work.

PS as other's have said, your daughter sounds so awesome haha I wish I had a mini personal trainer!

Holly - Thanks! I am very excited to be so far along in the process. It's kind of hard to believe sometimes. Lol, my daughter is a lot of fun, but boy, you put a 6 year old in charge of something and they sure won't let it go! lol

Speaking of my daughter, she told me after my workout today that I am now "on level 2 of exercising". No idea why now, why today, but that's the word according to her. It's nice to know that I'm not level 1 anymore. ;) Although, she told me when I could "do 20" (move the pin down to weight #20 on the machines, the highest it goes) then I would be level 3 and done.

I guess I'll never be done then, because I think you'd have to be a body builder to do that! lol

Your daughter sounds so cute LOL!!!! I am thinking of putting my daughter in charge lol She will have me dance everyday just cause I try and make her laugh while I do it!!!! Great job on the loss that Scuba mask is sooo close!
I ber you got a lot of walking done at the Zoo, when we went I got a lot of running in ,,,,,hubby tought it would be cute to let our then 17mo walk.....yeah right!!! LOL

WHEW! I just finished reading your WHOLE DIARY!!! It's been great to see your progress so far! I see so many similarities between us that it's scary! When I first started losing I was losing 2 to 4 lbs a week. The pounds just melted away it seemed. But now they are being stubborn! I'm lucky if I lose half a pound a week - and in fact usually have just stayed in the same spot. I can NOT seem to get rid of these 150s! So I know how frustrated you must feel lately.

But WOW! Look how far you have come already. That in itself is simply amazing! I'll be stopping in more often to follow you on your journey!

Keep up the great job!

Wow that is so cool that someone started from the beginnig and read your whole diary!!
I was thinking of you while we stayed at the bluefin inn - we also drove to Duluth and went golfing at Lutsen! I thought I could run into you and not even know it.
So excited for the 50 pound mark! I love how you never give up - not even for a second! Keep it up Mizzie!!!

Verobc - Just keep in mind that if you do that, she won't ever give it up. I think my daughter is just too excited to be able to make mom do something she doesn't always want to. Tables turned, and all that. That's a good thing, really, but can be frustrating. lol I did do a lot of walking at the zoo, so that was good. LOL at letting the 17mo walk. Poor Verobc, you must have been exhausted by the end of the day!

Tigpuppy - Holy cow! You read the whole thing? Dang... But thank you. I should really go back sometime and re-read through it, it might be nice to see how far I've come. It is frustrating though, isn't it. There were weeks in the beginning where I lost 7 pounds over 2 weeks and now I struggle for every 1/2 pound. I knew that would happen, but I though it would be when I got down to 150 or so. I'm still 20 pounds over my "healthy weight" range. *sigh*

Lisa - Lol, I was thinking of you this last week too. But you wouldn't have run into me because we weren't anywhere near Duluth (or further north). Anyway, if we had been there and run into you, I would have recognized you from your pics and probably would have done the "run and hug" thing. LOL, that would have given you a shock!

What did you do in Duluth? We love to go there and play tourist. That's too funny that you went golfing at Lusten! I don't know if you remember, but we went golfing there when we stayed there. In fact, that was my first time golfing. Isn't it a nice course?

So, I've peeked at the scale and I think this is going to be a good week. If it doesn't go back up, that is. I do seem to do that on a fairly regular basis, where I'm the lowest I'll go for the week on Monday or Tuesday, then it creeps back up by Friday.

Yesterday I added up all my calories after dinner and was at 840 for the day. Uh oh, a little bit too low. lol So I got to have a snack of wheat thins and goat cheese. YUM! Still ended the day at 1120, which is still a little low. But I figure that it's one day and won't hurt me.

I was a little afraid that I would be sore today since I upped the weights yesterday, but I'm not. That's good, because it means I can go today. Speaking of which, I'd better go have breakfast so I can get there a little earlier today.

Just realized that it was time to take my measurements again. I've lost 3 inches total since the last time I took them 3 weeks ago. That's good, but not great. I'll take it though, since I didn't lose much weight in that time either.

That would have been so funny if you saw me and came to give me a hug. I'd probably be a little frightened at first, lol! We just went to the mall, Target and Khols to do some shopping - nothing too exciting. There is a lot of construction going on there and we got a lost a few times driving around.
Lutsen was a nice golf course but a little hard for me - I think I only got one par the whole day. We also did the Alpine slide and gondola ride there - it was sooo hot though so I just wanted to find shade and water most of the day.

Great job on 3 inches! I should take measurements, just never keep up on it when I decide to do it. Ahh, oh well. I'll stick to the scale for now, lol.

Hey - thanks for the reminder! I haven't taken mine in a while either!

Great job on getting rid of those 3 inches - an inch a week is awesome!

Lisa - Lol, well you did better than me. I never got even close to par, but then, it was my first time golfing. I got about double par for the course. lol

Jess and Tigpuppy - Thanks!

Who else wishes they could spot reduce fat? Ok, now that everyone on this board has their hands in the air... Right now my big (no pun intended) issue is my arms. Yeah, I hate my belly, thighs, butt, etc, but my arms are what's really annoying me.

I still have big flabby "bye-bye" arms. When I let my arms dangle at my sides, there is a bulge of fat that hangs down over my elbows. It's really gross. And the thing that irritates me the most is that I'll see women who are much, much larger than I am and yet, they have thinner arms. They don't have the elbow lump. Why are my arms so disgusting? Ugg...

It doesn't help that arms are so visible too. I can wear jeans and flattering shirts, but in the summer there is nothing i can do to hide my arms. It's too hot for long sleeves.

</rant>

Anyway, I really can't wait until weigh day tomorrow!!! I wasn't going to weigh myself until Friday this week, but I can't help it and I've jumped on the scale every day. Unless something drastic changes between today and tomorrow (which I think would prompt me to kill something! ) I should have a good weigh in. :D I just can't wait to change my ticker and tell you all what my weight is!

This is the only reason I love winter...Well actually there's 2 reasons I love winter. 1. I can wear long sleeves and jackets to cover my hideous arm fat....hahaha...and 2. You can leave your drink in the car, go shopping or whatever for a while, and it's actually colder when you come back. hahaha. Other than that...winter sucks..hahaha!

I hope your weigh-in goes good tomorrow!!!

My arms have always bugged me too - more than anything else. It wasn't until this year that I started wearing tank tops and even still only wear them around close family and friends. I agree that it's really annoying to see larger ladies with smaller arms too - I always wondered why as well. I think it must have something to do with our genes but then I look at my mom and sisters and they all have nice arms with no stretch marks.
It wasn't until I started doing kettle bell that I started to notice some definition to my arms that allowed me to bare them occasionally. I think push ups really help too. Don't fret, the fat will disappear from there soon just like the rest of the body. Do you take measurements of your arms? Have you noticed any difference? I remember my arms used to be somewhere around 16' and now they are somewhere around 12' I think so eventually they will get smaller. Just keep it up and I'm sure once you get to goal you will not hate your arms as much!

Jen - Lol, yeah, I hear you on that one. I've always loved winter because I can wear a sweater anywhere. With jeans, it's a casual outfit for shopping or visiting family, with slacks, it's a work outfit. And sweaters are very forgiving when it comes to less than perfect bodies.

Lisa - Yeah, I look at my mom and she doesn't have this arm issue either. Maybe it's a recessive gene or something. My arms have gotten smaller, when I started taking measurements (in March, 1 month after I started this) they were 17 inches and now they are 15, so that's a definite improvement. It's not even the inches that bothers me though, it's the way the fat hangs down in a flap. Ick!

So, drum roll please... 3.2 pounds lost this week!!! :hurray: And by Sunday, I was down 1 pound from last Friday, so I think I must have had some water weight last week. Odd, since I don't really see any reason why, but whatever.

That also means that I've lost 51.8 pounds total. So, I get to buy my scuba mask now and I get another free day. I haven't even thought about what I want to have on my free day either, so I'll have to decide on that today.

I'm really excited that I had a good loss this week and that I've broken 50 pounds AND that I'm now in the 160's. Oh, and I only have 18 pounds to go until my first big goal! I'm feeling very proud of myself today.

Oh, and more good news. I have a job interview on Monday. Wish me luck!

:D

Wow Mizzie you are just full of good news today!! I'm so excited for you and super proud too!! Keep it up and you will be at your first big goal in no time!! Also good luck Monday!!

:hurray: Yay! That's awesome!! Congrats on the weight loss this week and your total so far, you're doing great. Oh, and on getting the scuba mask too, that's pretty cool. Hope you find one you like!
