Maryann's trail....Rotation Diet "version"....

Hey Maryanne,

When you step it up, you really step it up...lots of exercise, and using hot tea and water to calm your tummy growl...you keep that up and you'll see results! Glad you got to the wasp before he got to you...an illness, or injury always has a way of putting a damper on weightloss goals...so double glad it didn't get you!

Enjoy your autumn before the big frost/freezes/snows of Canada!

Sarah

Oh girl I'm sittin here reading through your diary and I am still laughing over the "shreddies" thing, It's so funny because I'm the SAME way, I have no idea why, I guess because we are use to and LOVE this sight, but I find myself in those positions I try to tell my fiance everything I plan to eat and do all week,.. and he doesnt care. That gave me a laugh tho, I was picturing you saying it in my head,.. I'm not making fun of you it's just that I DO THE SAME THING LOL!!!

Anyway, you are doing so good! keep it up!!! We are all cheering for you! (and eachother) We will listen to your shreddie stories anytime!!!!

Hi Maryann, Those shreddies moments are another good reason to be typing every day in our diaries. Most people don’t want to hear about our ‘lifestyle changes’, especially when they are still choosing to eat unhealthy food. I think I have managed to avoid seeing many glazed eyes by typing my feelings & ‘insights’ into my diary, instead of to my friends & family. That wasn't the case early on though & I stopped when I realised that most people just didn't want to hear ALL about it. I was like a convert! Well done on making the changes you have made. Every step counts, every time we choose something healthy over something that’s not, moves us us closer to where we want to be. Good for you Maryann! Cheers xo Cate

Good Luck! The Rotation Diet works. I lost 78 lbs on it 10 years ago. :hurray:

- Reaalllly sore Knee on Sunday morning ( maybe over-did it with jumping in too quick to increase exercise - ie. 2 &1/2hrs yard work+dog walk+tread mill on Satruday)..... will need to ease-up a bit .....

~ took some anti-inflammatories - hobbled -thru a golf-game Sunday aftn. ( bit of pain - but did get in 2 & 1/2hrs exercise ! yay-...) ( didn't have heart to cancel on my golf pal - just fought thru the pain - am glad I did )...but rest of day Sunday took it easy.

~ this AM - knee is fine- thank goodness - but will have to be a bit "less" quick to increase stuff - I am over 50 after-all ! lol.....

~ thx Sarah for the support - I am really giving full-effort this week to try & stick with plan....and see if I can make that scale move ! - your encouragement really helps me :p

~ thx Jessica for stopping-by my diary & for the support - & yes, that "shreddies moment" makes me laugh now too- I did feel quite "red-faced" when it happened. good to know I'm not the only one who's "into" this healthy stuff & forgets not everyone is.....

~ thx Cate for "understanding" my shreddies moment also....I totally agree with feeling a bit like a "Convert".....dont' get me wrong - I still LUV potatoe-chips...but am figuring out that I Don't luv what they do my body - .... it is so good to come here & chat with folks who understand .

~ hey Free - thx for visiting - most excellent 78lbs. on Katahn's rotation diet - I am thinking there really is something to varying calories certain days...will check out your thread ...thankyou

~ today is going ok - did noon-walk, major hungry-hungry-hungry on getting home after work - did a bowl of home-made veggie soup ( added 4gm croutons-15cals, 10gram grated romano cheese sprinkled on top(30cals) - did the trick - tummy now happy .

~ well, off to cut grass, then dog-walk- then healthy supper ( 4oz.chick breast & salad for supper ) - daily calorie total: 1,300 ( -plan for tea/water tonite after supper if get tummy growls....)- going to really try to stick to plan this week.

cheers all,

happy choices,

Maryann C.

Hi all,

...good day today , so far, did 1/2hr noon walk,

...calories planned today: 1485 ( am doing the "Free"s modified Katahn calorie rotation - week 1 is 1200cals alternating with 1500cals daily ., + exercise ( 1.5hrs daily ) -

- wrote out all my food this morning - so I have a set-list - less temptation to stray or substitute....

- am Packing my healthy food with me for a shopping trip to city this Aftn. ( so I'm not tempted by those evil fast-food places....baaaad).(and have few calories left for a nice bowl of veggie soup once home ( in case I'm starvin' growly by then ).

- plan for dog walk + tread-mill once home tonite - to finish up the 1.5hr exercise today.

hope everyone having a good day,:p

cheers,

Maryann.

Sounds like an Excellent Plan!

Maryann, Well done on getting better organised every day! Hope your muscles are no longer screaming out! Cheers, Cate

AHey MaryannC,
Sorry you're not feeling too good, and hope you are less sore now! Easy does it! Keep those walks up and you'll be seeing those pounds dropping off!
Getting your meals organized ahead of time and planning them is such a good idea! I try to always take my lunch to work so that I have 1) portion control and 2) know the calories I will have during the day. I also always have some hot green tea (no sugar added...it's an acquired taste) around in the evening to drink and make any night snacks or over eating less probable.
Keep up the good work, and good choices to you!
Sarah

Grrrr ..... gotta rant a little here ( as this is my "safe" place to rant about weight-loss stuff ) :argue:

- yesterday I ran into a girlfriend I haven't seen in a few years - let's call her "Smarty-pants Sue"... ( she is quite overweight too - has been for all of the time that I have known her ) - she said "might as well enjoy ourselves now -'cause at our weights -"we're not looking like we'll be living to be very old" .... sheesh ! ...I told her that I am making a really hard effort these days to improve my weight and health - & she gave me the old - " yah yah - oh sure - yu've said that before"... I bit my tongue....just repeated that I am really giving it a hard-try to be healthier...and left it a that. *(inside I was just steaming , and felt very hurt at her attitude).... :svengo:

- I was pretty upset last-nite - very tempted to "fall off healthy wagon" do a feelin' sorry for myself food-party.......but logged-in here & started reading all the positive posts & thought - NOPE - I'm not going to let one grumpy-Sue derail all my hard-work so far & throw-me off of the good-track that I am on....so I turned my frown into determination....I am SOOooooo gonna Show her - I Can so do this ! .....& I picked myself up , did 1/2 hr on treadmill last nite, wrote out my food this morning ...and am trucking along solid on my healthy trail - poo poo to that Smarty-pants Sue...she'll See !! :smash:

~ on a happier note - I am having a good-day today, did my noon 1/2hr walk, good on my food so far - it's a 1,200cal day today - I'm a bit hungry- but "Free's" rotation that I am following allows for an afternoon snack - which hit the spot..

~ Cate - yes, I am finding that having my whole-day of food planned out ahead & Written-down first thing in morning is really working well for me so far - it's In Writing - so I gotta-stick with it- even when I'm hungry.... lol......, my muscle-pull is bit better, thanks for your on-going support ( it really helped me cope) on a tuff day like yesterday with my friend's "Negative" attitude & comments....

~ Free - thankyou again for sharing your version of Kathan's Rotation Diet - I found the snaks in your version really help keep the "hungries" in control ( I'm on a 1,200cal day today)...and handling it ok . , & thanks for tip on watching for injury on the increased exercise - my exercise is pretty low impact so far - I walk outside at noon, walk dog in early evening, and treadmill ( walk ) later evening at home. - so far, so good, ....I did peek at scale this morning...don't want to "jinx" things...but is looking like will be a good week.

~ Sarah- thanks, as always, for the support and care & tips - I do find that packing lunch is a good strategy- I will keep it up , and a nice hot cup of green tea sounds good - I think I'll brew one shortly, my knee is a bit better, but I have eased-up to 1 hour ( rather than 1.5hrs) daily exercise for this week , don't want to create a long-term injury...I am hopeful it's just a muscle pull.

cheers all, thanks for all the support - definately got me thru a 'tuff moment" yesterday...:gnorsi:

Maryann- We are your cheer squad but you are the one doing this & you will show “Smarty-pants Sue!â€

If you had gone home and had that “feelin' sorry for myself food-party†Sue would have been right. BUT YOU DIDN’T! WELL DONE!! You WILL show her!

As Mahatma Gandhi said- “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.â€

I also like- I am what I choose to be.

You have chosen to become slim & healthy Maryann and your life will change for the better & you will have done it yourself. Don’t forget to give yourself credit for every positive change that you make. GO MARYANN!!!! Cheers, xo Cate

Just want to share some gardening success this year ( that ol' garden work is good exercise).... had some zucchinis' that were over 2 feet long ( very unusual).... ...

~ my walking pal Koko- says "OK lady - enuf gardening- time for my walk !

~ bye all,

wishing everyone good choices,

Maryann .

ASo happy for you Maryannec! You are solo right, you will show smarty pants sue! I am more happy that you turned your frown into determination and kept on the good way you are on now, and that our little forum here had a small role in that! That's one of the best parts about this forum...we can say what's really on our minds and know that it's likely that someone else has been through a similar situation and is not going to judge us, but in fact may actually help us get through it! I am sure I wouldn't have been able to get where I am today without all the good people here!
I love the pictures of your garden bounty...makes me homesick here in my concrete jungle, and little Koko is so cute! She looks like she might be full of energy...also good for you!
Keep up the good work Maryann, and we are right here cheering you on!!

:hurray::hurray:

Sarah

Hi all ,

Sarah - thanks for the support - & you are right - I should give myself some credit too - I didn't cave-in after the very negative talk with my friend - Not caving in to comfort food when upset was definately a new change for me....I will work hard to remember that I can & did avoid turning to food when stressed.... a good event/point for me to note & remember in my weight-loss journey....:iagree:

& yup - Koko is a pretty active little dog ( even tho she's 6yrs old already).... she is fun & a good "walkies" motivator.

- your "jungle" doesn't look all concrete... that picture of you cycling a while back looked like a very nice green park... but must be tuff being so far from home ....I think you mentioned you will be visiting back home around Xmas ?...bet you are looking forward to it ! - and I'm sure everyone will be so impressed with all the weight-loss you've achieved.

Free - thx for the "green-thumb" - I'm really not a very good gardener, but we had amazing weather this summer, lots of warmth, tons of rain-but not too much - pretty much everyone here had "bumper" crops of cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, and , of course, amazingly huge zucchinis ! lol.

Cate - thankyou for the support ( yur very kind words brought tears to my eyes... ) - I now have even more "incentive" to push me on this journey - I will show Sue that she is Wrong ! I am changing this life-long issue for myself - I am eating healthier, I am Moving-! every day....& I am reading & sharing on this site when I'm feeling down ( instead of a "food party" for comfort)....I am so looking forward to calling her up sometime next year & inviting her out for a coffee , after I've lost some pounds......and , maybe....she will see that she could turn her "grumpy" negative around too if she wants...If I can do it...maybe Grumpy-Pants Sue can too !

I'm having a pretty good week, have exercised everyday so far, calories today - 1,500 cal day - including a lite beer I've got planned for a bit later this evening ( co-worker/neighbour is having some ladies over for a beer - to visit with a past co-worker who is in town to visit).:beerchug:~ will be nice to have a bit of fun ( & yes - I am taking a veggie tray - so I can nibble & not feel guilty or blow my good calorie week so far, lol. )

~ cheers all, we CAN do IT !

Maryann .

Yay ! ...1 lb. gone this week. bye-bye. ( gotta keep it going & then I'll be lighter & fitter for my upcoming stuff - - annual doctor visit next month, a wedding this fall, Florida trip at end-Nov, and work conference next June...)- ...here I come:hurray: !

~ wishing a good weekend to all,

cheers,

Maryann

I just read through your posts...Way to go! You are starting a positive journey! Nice to see th scale start to head downward isnt it? Havent you almost hit the 10lbs lost mark? On your first post you wrote that you wanted to get 15 off by a Dr visit in Oct. You are 2/3 there! I commend your slow and steady success!

AHey MaryannC,
Congratulations on busting through that 240's mark...kiss those 250's behind girl! Now doesn't that make you already say a secret "I told ya so" to ms smarty pants sue?!! Good job!! By the way, my apartment is surrounded by concrete...the picture in the park is where I go to escape the concrete! I will go there tomorrow! When you go on vacation, don't let yourself have a vacation from your eating! A little planned indulgence is OK, but, plan it and enjoy it, then get back to normal. Business trips are always the toughest for me as I'm not preparing my meals, and I have to get out of the routine to exercise etc...but somehow we can manage it if we think about it and get a plan together! I actually lost 2 pounds on a Hawaiian vacation...did a lot of walking around, still exercised at the fitness center every morning and didn't eat like crazy! I was pretty happy about that, and you can do the same in your upcoming Florida trip! Stick with it...you're a little over 1 month into your journey that is changing your life! Enjoy your journey... We are enjoying having you along! Good choices to you Maryann!

Sarah

AThx Brawny- didn't realize I was close to 10lbs loss, just been plugging along 1 day at a time.
That's a real good boost! Thankyu

AHi all- having a gorgeous fall wknd at the lake. Will post some pics later( too tricky here on iPhone)
Brought healthy snacks-veg tray/fresh fruit& have already gone for 2 walks today- will go for one more shortly- to get 1.5 hrs exercise today.

Sarah- I am glad for U that u are able to get away to a park to escape the concrete- mother nature time is so good for recharging ourselves :)
It's hard to believe I've been at this a month already- and yes, I am very happy to finally be under 250 lbs (beiing over 250 lbs for a short gal like me is scary.)
-thx for idea to start thinking/ planning ahead on fitting in "healthy" choices on my Florida vctn. I am already thinking I could get up 1/2hr early each AM and start my day with a nice walk on hotel grounds (we're staying at a Disney hotel- their grounds are quite spread out with lots of lush greenery& tons of nice walkways I could do.) For food-brekfst is easy- we usually just have fruit/yogurt in room before heading out for the day, I'll need to add some protein in- maybe some high fibre cereal or some cheese strings. Disney theme parks-bit of challenge- :hat: of bad-food/ fries, burgers- but there is healthy stuff too- will just seek out fresh fruit or carrot stick packs- instead of those soft pretzels.....(very good idea Sarah to start thinking on this now- then healthy options will be well ingrained in my noggin by the time I go.
- similar approach would work for work conference- outside walk or hotel fitness centre treadmill walk in early AM before day gets going- then pick the healthier choices on food offered. Beverages/ plan - stick with wAter- & allow for 1 drink ( lite beer/wine) if I feel I'd like one.
Yup- before U know it- I will be saying na na na to Smarty-Sue!
So glad for the cheering squad on Here, all the great advice ,support and just knowing that I'm sharing my journey with you all is making it enjoyable & so far- good progress- happy with my good start so far .

Cheers , happy Weekend
Maryann
