Lukewarm's Weight Loss Diary

Risty Oh that's a great idea, yeah I totally waste em. down the disposal. here you go Risty! Hey if you end up trying any of those out, let me know what you think ok? I want to try some of them but I might go broke. Well. I am broke. So I'll be more broke. But yes I'm hungry now.

MissLadybug You should! You'll probably like it, you don't realize that egg whites are really good by themselves until you try it, and then you'll be surprised! Promise! ALso thanks...I'm happy too. Well I'm just happy I'm done for the semester. OK NO MORE SCHOOL TALK. aw you were just sharing nature, it's a beautiful cycle, there's no stealing among neighbors and their fruit trees. I used to have massive raspberry vines in my backyard in Michigan. My neighbor would help me pick them and by the time we were done, we had nada to show for it.

I didn't exercise yesterday. But today I feel like a new woman. for realll. So today I'm going to kick my own ass at the gym and I'm going to like it. I need to start lifting seriously. Here's my deal though. I need to be organized about it otherwise I'll never keep it up. The only reason I am able to manage this is because (well along with the beautiful support of you!) I'm able to keep it organized and I can just copy and paste my format, and then fill it in as I go along. So...I just need to figure out a concise way to record the weight stuff. I'll do it. I've got time now.

I just came back from the gym and I weigh exactly the same. I'm still at 169. I am sad.

M2M aw thanks :) I'll try to remain positive.

Does anyone ever feel as though they anticipate a plateau? I just feel like I'm not going to like this month very much.

Well I can tell you I didn't anticipate mine :p But it came and I'm pushing through it. The one thing I have to say about you thinking you're not going to like this month is...... think positive! When you think positive you'll try harder, but if you're thinking negative you might not try as hard and think see, I was right. Mindset is so important, you can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it. Like today, I was so bloody tired I came sooooooooooo close to not going to my CK class, but I made myself go and once I was there I was like I am gonna kick some ass! And boy did I! So it's all about the right attitude and positive thinking. Just try to think positive about the upcoming month and do your best at your eating and exercise, I'm sure you'll like the month if you do that ;)

This website has probably already been posted but I read through it and it has explained a lot about my body shape. Even when I was really thin I always hated my thighs, but I only did cardio, I didn't include strength training. My theory was that I already had really muscular thighs, so I didn't want to work it out and get bigger on the bottom. So this article basically says that in order to avoid looking like "a smaller haggard-looking pear" (which I did) I need to build my upper body to balance out my lower body, and also use weights to shape my lower body.
Right now I'm trying to figure out what my new weight-lifting routine will be comprised of, and how often/how much I should be doing. A lot of sites ask you to join or pay a fee though so I hope this doesn't take too long to get solid advice.

I can't wait to have nice arms, back, stomach. Nice legs is what I wish I could have though, it's going to take a lot of work however.

Hi Luke; that's awesome you're going to start weights. Just enjoy it and get familiar with it at your leisure. I bought Bob Greene's Total Body Makeover book. He's Oprah's trainer and I really like his simplicity and approach.

You'll breeze through the 160s now that SCHOOL IS OVER FREAKING YES!

2Skinny thanks I hope so. I absolutely do need to get familiar with the weights. I think that once I understand what I need, and start putting in the effort, I'll see great results.

How in the world does anyone get enough fiber in? I always get a "zero" percentage whenever I enter my food into fitday. I don't get it. My soymilk is fiber-enhanced, does that cover my fiber requirement? --Oops nevermind. I usually get about 30 grams, and it's recommended for adults to get about 25-35 grams a day. I understand.

I just made a yummy rice/bean mixture. Brown rice, black beans, fresh tomatoes, green onions, egg whites, and a little smokin' teriyaki sauce.

MMMMM RICE AND BEANS, one of my favorites!! Everyone goes through plateau's so don't stress out to much over them, just work your way through and as Risty mentioned stay positive! Your doing everything right and now your incorporating weights into your week, so in no time you should be seeing that scale gradually drop down. Oh I went to Sam's today and bought a huge box of Cheerios, you've inspired me!! :D
Kim

MissLadybug thank you for the vote of confidence. I agree, I need to think about what I can do to make sure a plateau doesn’t occur.

Well my gym doesn't have free weights. The machines available are: Back Machine, Lat Pull-Down, "Pec-Deck," "Modular Multi-Press" (It looks like a bench press on an incline), Leg Curl/Press/Row, Tricep and Row, and there is also a padded incline sit-up bench and there is one adjustable free weight. So...I guess I could do alternate bicep curls with it, or military presses (I think that's what those are called), and tricep whatevers. I'm thinking maybe I should join a real gym though so that I begin this properly and develop good habits. It is so expensive though! But then again, people have a lot less and still manage to get results. I don't know. I need to think about it.

Hi Luke, I like to jog outside for my cardio, only time I need the gym is when I want the elliptical trainer or if the weather sucks (which is often here). I have free weights at home, 5, 8 and 10 pounders, so I don't need the gym for those either.

What I'm trying to say is if you don't need the gym for cardio...why not buy some free weights and do that stuff at home?
Gotta run, supper's ready :) The boys and I are watching Nacho Libre. ha ha

2Skinny OMG I'm so crazy. That's a great idea. Tomorrow morning I have a mission. I've been looking for 10 & 15 lb. dumbbells that are available around here online so now I have a nice morning ahead of me. I'll pick up a few weights, hit up Barnes & Noble, and come home to play with my new weights before work.

Also...my sister gets out of school in 2 weeks, and she's athletic and wants to learn how to play tennis. I happen to be a good tennis player (No. 1 in high school!) so we've decided to join the racquetclub down the street from my apt :) where there is also a fitness center that offers kickboxing (which I never would have considered if not for Risty, so thanks!), tai chi, pilates (which I've always wanted to try), among various other courses. They also extend a student discount, and a family discount (for two) so I'm excited. Helloooo Summer!

I've been dreaming about my bikini that I'll be wearing NEXT summer. I've also thought about posting here in my journal...I know I say it every other day, but this has already proven invaluable. I only wish I had came across the forum earlier. Even after I reach my goal, I don't think I'd want to stop posting. Exercise is only going to become a greater part of my life in the future so I don't see why I would. Which leads me to feel attached, because I know that this will be a part of my life forever. Cripe, the forum better not break up with me. I'm looking at rings.

Another reason the tennis club would be nice is for when I can't get my sis to play, there are always tournaments and other singles that need someone to hit around with, which has been my issue since moving away from home. All I ever find are the people that don't know how to play, but want to learn, so I teach them, and then they lose interest in playing because it takes practice to learn, and then I was just a ball machine standing at the net and I never even got to play. ugh.

heyy. im not sure the exact recipe-will find for u tomorrow
there is this indian recipe, called kithree , duno how to spell it or say its english term. but itspuree, of rice and lentil daal. its really yummy, healthy, n puree!!

anywho, i totally get what u mean bout losing weight.
i was going to recommend, that hwen u work out, do somethin fun with it. i find it so boring just to work out. i exercise infront of the tv. i try not to watch tv that much, because of school-but what i do is, look forward to atleast one hour of tv, or a movie, daily. that way i have to work out ifnront of it. either stick it infront of ur tv, or grab a mini dvd player or what not,. even get on the phone while ur on the treadmill.
ull b surprsied at how easil time flies.

if u set realistic goals-it will be better. dont get mad that u did just 1.5 miles be happy, that u did it, at all. after all its the first time in a while u said.

u can make lentil soup, easily, there are recipes everywhere on the net. its east india mainly-, but it tastes good, very very healthy and nutritious- and its a liquid.
u can also do protein shakes if u have to do liquid.

gluck, keep me posted on ur results

Luke, How fun you will be playing tennis again. YES!!! That is such a busting cardio workout. You mentioned that tai-chi, Pilate's class, I take one of those at my gym, it's called Group Centergy, and I thought I was pretty strong, until I took that class, it worked on strengthening and flexibility, both I needed big time!! it's a good class to try, I know it's harder than I thought it would be. So go for it!!!! The kick boxing, I have yet to take. Since my gym offers so many classes It's hard to get them all in during the week. But if you can incorporate a few different ones, you will so see improvements in your body and you will find muscles in parts you never thought you had them. I say GOOD FOR YOU!! I'm so excited to hear about this. Good Luck and stay on track. On that note, I'm going to have my bowl of cheerios now. LOL

MedChick Hello! Thanks for stopping by, and I looked for your diary, have you started one? You should! Obviously it's really helpful, way more helpful than you imagine it would be. I love Indian food, I'd absolutely appreciate the recipe. I do agree, I love my iPod and I know for a fact that without it, I would not be on that treadmill.

MissLadybug Oh I know! I own a hopper full of balls so I just drill the person I'm playing with (maybe that's why no one wants to play with me) and then they drill me. In ten minutes I'm worn out, because of the heat. But if I don't drill them, they won't get better, and I'll never actually have fun playing them because I want to play a real game instead of watching their shots hit the other court.

The Group Centergy class sounds really great! I need serious help in those areas too! I know stretching is so important but holy crap...I never thought I'd be this inflexible. Thanks so much, I intend to begin soon. I might swing by there for some info after errands this afternoon. Have a great day!

LOL your food intake looks like mine today!! I have no appetite, and I only ate that bowl of cheerios this morning, I think I better take a break and go cut up some cheese and tomatoes or something, before I get the urge to eat something bad. I posted some pics on my diary, I hope you get the chance to look at them. Talk to you later
Kim

Hey! I hope that you will try the kickboxing there! I wonder if it's like my cardio kickboxing, or if it's strictly kickboxing. Either way, I'm sure it's fun! I love mine. I can't wait until I'm more fit and then I'll go into kung fu! I LOVE martial arts.

I just watched this movie last night, Equilibrium (AWESOME MOVIE, if anyone hasn't seen it, they definately should). They have this awesome kind of martial arts type of style when they shoot guns, it's the most awesome thing ever, I was just watching going OMG I wanna do that! I wanna learn martial arts so bad! But it's not a martial arts movie, it just has some elements in it, definately a must watch :D My bf and I show everyone this movie. It's one of my favorites along with The Crow and Boondock Saints.

Anywho! About indian food, I absolutely love indian food! We have this restaurant here my bf and I love to go to. We try to make our own butter chicken, nan and rice pulao and although it's very good, it's nothing like the ones at the restaurant, lol.

I hope you have a lot of fun doing your tennis, do try some of the other stuff there like the kickboxing, I'm sure you'll like it!

Risty mentioned the Boondock Saints, my husband loves that movie, we watched a movie yesterday (martial arts) called The Protector. Now that kid in that movie can do some serious martial arts, and I'm thinking he's probably better than Jackie Chan, when it comes to the stunts he did in this movie, totally blew me away. Plus the movie itself was pretty good, he is the Protector of the elephants, and they have this baby one in there and AHHHH it's so cute. Well, just reading along, and thought I would throw that one in there. Hope your day went well!!
Kim

Miss Ladybug I know, I didn't eat anything except for the egg whites until 5:30pm today...but I think that was sort of because I had nothing in my house. I went shopping though after work and I'm stocked now! I picked up 4 boxes of MG Cheerios! :p We're so funny. Yes I was just about to come post in your diary ;) One of my best friends recommended The Protector to me and I liked it as well. I can dig the martial arts, it's a beautiful art.

Risty I have a feeling it's probably regular kickboxing. This place isn't super savvy, it's just a family center that offers a few classes. So I'm not sure about it. The guy is calling me back with the rates tomorrow so I will see if it is feasible for me to join or not. I love The Crow and The Boondock Saints! I'm a freak about movies. I'm sitting here watching What Women Want, and I'm cringing. I can't get over how the entire movie portrays women. It's just crazy to me. It reinforces the entire stereotype of meek women who bloom with only a drop of some dude's attention. No thanks. Anyways I'm getting off on a tangent, sorry. Well and another thing, if everything wasn't so BLATANT it might be better. ugh.

So I did pick up those dumbbells (thanks 2Skinny), I bought two 10 lb. weights, and two 15 lb. weights! I'm excited. I feel empowered. haha. Also thanks Risty, I went out and bought the egg whites in a carton instead of eggs, and I need to go on my treadmill soon, because I'm feeling tired already.
