Lukewarm's Weight Loss Diary

Oh it's Mick. Very cool picture of him. For a while I thought it was you. And then I noticed you listed your playlist of music at the end of posts and thought, ah, it's probably a musician. I really like David Bowie's look too.
I love Bjork for her creativity and loved Dancer in the Dark the sheer brilliance of putting machinery in with music...progressive doesn't even begin to describe that gal. I loved her swan dress but alas, the world wasn't ready for it. lol I could talk about musicians for hours.

I would need some serious game plan if I was going home to gram's cooking. OMG her food sounds so good. Have a nice evening!

You ate so well today and everything sounds so yummy!! I have yet to try the soy milk, but I see a lot of people on this forum do drink it. I know it's good for you, but I'm just making small changes every month or so, I've given up my weekly intake of bread and pasta, and I've doubled my water, so like I said just trying something new once a month. And you just write away anything you feel like saying, it's YOUR DIARY and nobody elses and you can put in it anything you wish. Sometimes, it actually helps make somebody else's day, I know I get a laugh out of several posts I read, it's good for the soul and it's good to know people are just like you. I hope your friend sees the light soon and finds support in you. Just be there for her and when she's ready, she will ask. I know, I was one of those people!! ;)
Have a very good evening
~hugs~
Kim

2Skinny I'm happy you like it too! I do love the picture and that it's sort of obscure-looking you know? I love Bowie! YOU ARE SO AWESOME! Progressive is certainly one of the words that should be used to describe her brilliance. I love open-minded inspiring insanely talented people....haha of course. I dug the swan dress too. Same old same old is  I feel terrible for my friends and whoever rides with me! I'm so like you! ;) I grasp every opportunity to discuss interesting music and artists!

Oh I so know. It's such a bummer, and her feelings are completely shattered if I don't indulge. I've already let her know that I'm on a strict diet of non-delicious grandma cooking. I have a major task on my hands for August.

Miss Ladybug that's wonderful, I like your method of trying out a healthy alternative or change each month. GREAT job on nixing the pasta and bread and such. I'm going to stop eating Cream of Wheat, because when I do eat it, I use light margarine and splenda to make it better, and I don't need those. They do nothing for me, and I feel sluggish after eating a bowl of it. I've been wondering what it is that makes me feel so heavy and I think it is, in fact the cereal.

You're right! I do enjoy venting in my diary. I know I go off on non-weight-loss related tangents but everything reflects everything else in my life so it's important to talk about it all, or at least record it for my own piece of mind. I hope she finds the strength that you were able to summon, and I'm sure that she will do just as well as you are doing when she does. Thank you ;)

That is one nice thing about washington... not many big bugs... :D Now, in Cape Cod, the green headed flys are terryifying, and the cicadas...*shudders* normally bugs don't bother me, but these things get stuck in your hair...eww.

Have a good night!

Morning Luke, I love cream of wheat, even more than I love oatmeal and that's a lot! I don't know if I could give up my cream of wheat, so I give you a thumbs up for doing that! It's hard for me to cook in the morning, because I'm always on the run, so I pick up those packets of oatmeal from Sam's club in the big box and use two of those when I get to work, I never add sugar or milk to them so it keeps them at a pretty low calorie, but you know these items are both packed full of fiber and that we all need. I'm going to look up some ideas to add to cream of wheat and I'll let you know what I find out. I hope you have a FAB day today.
Kim

Xorie Seattle is my dream city. I wish I lived in Washington. I'm so jealous. Um green-headed flies! Cicadas! That's horrifying! So scared of bugs. Oh and it's way cloudy this morning.

MissLadybug The packets of oatmeal seem to be a great idea! Aw thank you! You are so sweet, I hope you have a wonderful day as well.:)

Hey!

Cream of wheat in itself wouldn't be bad if you didn't add the margarine. I eat oatmeal for breakfast most mornings. I don't eat the packets because the flavored ones are the nice ones but they have a ton of sugar. So I just go to the bulk section in the store and buy a ton of regular oatmeal and cook it. Then I'll add cinnamon (not sugar, just reg ground cin) sometimes, or sometimes I'll add berries to it. Usually I add the berries. Then I have a glass is skim milk for protein. And that's my breakfast almost every morning. I like it though and it's healthy :D

About the whole grandma cooking thing, I totally understand! My grandma always cooks a ton of things when we go there. There's quite a few courses in her suppers! First is usually a soup, then appies like cold cuts and cheeses, breads, tuna with mayo and crackers, etc then theres some sort of pasta (lasagna, penne, caneloni, gnocci, etc etc) then there's the meats, veggies, salads. Plus there's the odd extra random item of food. Then the dessert (biscotti or banana cream pie or cream puffs or tiramisu) MMMM. Trust me I'd be happy with just the pasta and only pasta. Or just the dessert, lol.

We used to go to my granma's every monday for dinner, so I don't think that helped with my weight issues. But then it became too much for her to do that every monday, so now it's only on special occasions. Which is a good thing because that's way too much to do every week, and plus I want to lose weight and so does she, so it's better for only special occasions in every way.

I hope you're having an awesome day, I'm so hungry after my post! LOL I'll continue eating my oatmeal and berries and I'll be fine, lol.

Risty oh my gosh EXACTLY! Grandmas simply make the best food. You must be Italian as well? You certainly have the coloring. My background is 1/2 Italian, 1/4 Scottish, 1/4 Finnish, but unfortunately I didn't get the dark hair and such. My mom could be your mom though.

Yeah it probably is the margarine isn't it? I don't know why I still add it, it's probably because when I was a kid my mom would make the BEST cream of wheat you know.....I remember her putting butter and sugar and milk in it and it was *bliss* there's something about the memory of your mom and her making certain stuff for you. Damnit mom...you've ruined me :p I'll knock it off w/ the margarine. I don't want it in there.

Oh I know, those flavored packets of oatmeal are 3/4 sugar, and 1/4 oatmeal. I think you and MissLadybug have the right idea, the nice little packets of regular oatmeal sound really easy and yummy. I love cinnamon! I add it to my applesauce as well. I buy the unsweetened organic applesauce so it definitely needs a little something at times, and the cinnamon is perfect.

Oh my gosh I'm hungry too. I'm going to go have cereal now.

Yup, you guessed it I'm Italian. I figured you were Italian too from the way your grandma sounds. That's so funny, the Italians and their food! I'm 1/2 Italian and 1/2 French. And let me tell you, both make good food, lol. Very easy to overeat when everything tastes so good, which is what my problem was (and still is at times).

About the whole margarine thing, try to eat it without it, like you said and see if you like it like that. I mean it won't be like your mothers but it'll be healthier. And if you really can't stand it, then you can always eat the oatmeal like missladybug and I do. Another good thing for breakfast that I like (if I have time to make it) is cooking egg whites, adding some salsa and putting it on a piece of whole grain toast! Yum! Salsa is so much better for you than ketchup (I used to have ketchup with my eggs all the time but now I only use the salsa). Besides it gives a lot of flavor to the egg whites.

Darn, have to get ready for work soon! Boo! AHH! Need to go put my clothes in the dryer... I always forget!

Oh I agree with Risty on the salsa, it just adds so much more flavor to blah eggs! Try these items in your cream of wheat instead of margarine: berries or nuts, banana, peaches, applesauce those are just ideas. I also heard Pumpkin Pie seasoning mix is good. All with good nutritional values as well. I'm going to try the pumkin pie idea, and see if that works. I never add butter to anything anymore, not even veggies and I grew up with butter in my veggies. Just give me PEPPER and I'm good to go!

Risty Italian girls are predisposed to enjoy good food. It's inherent in our nature :p You've got a serious genetic makeup there girl! French and Italian! Beautiful. I'm so happy I've found this forum. FOR REAL! I know I say it all the time, but this site is absolutely PRICELESS. Without it I would still be really depressed but just talking with all of you makes losing weight seem fun? Wow I can't believe I just typed that, and that I actually mean it.

Oh I know...sugary tomatoes? I mean when sugar is in absolutely everything, and it's considered the norm to ingest 8 tons of sugar a day, it's no wonder people have issues regulating a healthy weight. The salsa is an excellent idea, I think my next grocery trip I'll pick some up. I hope you have a good day at work ;)

MissLadybug I love peppers too! I love jalapeno peppers on just about everything. The best thing about peppers and spicy food is that it helps make you feel full, and you automatically drink tons more water if you eat a lot of spicy food. That was one of my tricks when I started drinking only water. I just picked up lots of frozen peppers at the store yesterday, whenever I open my freezer it smells amazing.

Berries, nuts, fruit, that all sounds great. What a fantastic idea! Also, the pumpkin pie spice is a freaking great idea as well. I have so many spices too I need to start putting them to good use. I refuse to buy salt too, so I have zero salt in my home, which just prevents me from using it at all. I try to buy groceries as well that have really low to no sodium and it's been working great so far. I'm a salty loving girl so this has also been another battle for me to stop using it.

I grew up with butter in everything too. My mom didn't inherit my grandmother's interest in cooking, so we always had butter slathered on everything. Well my gram does it too so I don't know what my point is. It's a blessing to live on my own and not have to watch all the stuff my family is eating. I don't think I could do this successfully if I still lived at home.

Seattle is cool, but it's just not my cup of tea. Now, Monroe, where it's nestled up against the mountain foothills, and there are no tall buildings, and lots of wide open spaces... that's the place for me. :D

BUT, Seattle is home of the SpaceNeedle, (which is a really cool place to eat dinner, if you happen to have about $50 to feed yourself...) and there is a lot of culture there. (I live north of seattle in ghetto everett. :D)

It's sunny out right now, but the clouds are threatening, and should be here in about half an hour.

I totally agree, the forum is priceless! I look forward to coming on here everyday! And when I skip a day, like I did this week, the next day I'm like OMG I missed so much! lol

I don't add salt to anything except one thing. When my bf and I make popcorn we do add margarine or butter and salt. I know, so bad! It's just not the same without it :p I don't feel guilty about it though cause I hardly ever eat it anyways. I may have popcorn once every few months, so adding that stuff to it once every few months (and never adding margarine, butter or salt to anything else) isn't too bad, lol.

That cream of wheat and pumpkin pie spice sounds absolutely wonderful! Makes me want to try it! I heard cream of wheat is good for iron and I need more iron, so maybe I'll get some and try it with the pumpkin stuff. I never even knew you could get pumpkin pie spice by itself....lol

Xorie Monroe sounds absolutely beautiful. haha I'm sure Everett is very nice as well. My sister wants to go to school in Seattle, we've both agreed it will probably be our favorite city. I woke up to a dense fog this morning, which I love, I just run out and sit on my back balcony and watch it lay on the pool.

Risty I know that does sound so good! I'm going to try it as soon as I run out of soy milk. I'm paranoid about it going off. I hate buying perishables, I feel like it's going to go bad before I have a chance to use it.

Well it's popcorn, and it's absolutely delicious with salt and butter. It's so funny that you should say that, I was just talking about going to the movies this weekend with a friend and I thought about that. I mean we did promise to be good but to allow a treat every once in a while right?

Good morning everyone ;)

Well I woke up super early this morning (for me) because I actually fell asleep last night while editing my post to enter my exercise for the day. I took some leftover medication from my surgery because I had a serious headache and I literally fell on my way up the stairs because I couldn't keep my eyes open. I'm shocked at how I responded to it. I slept like a damn rock though and I woke up feeling totally disoriented. I hate that! But I did have a great sleep.

Ok I have 3 exams this morning and then I have to set up shop at the library to finish my paper that's due tomorrow. So this means planning ahead...I'd ride my bike but it's supposed to rain this afternoon. I'm so excited this semester is almost over. 2 more days.

 Oh no I've already eaten 700 calories and it's not even 10am yet. This is gonna be a rough day. I was hungry though and I'm not used to getting up so early. :(

I didn't have a good imagination today. I meant to eat soup but I just ended up eating exactly the same thing I had earlier today.

-Breakfast: MG Cheerios/Raspberries/Vanilla Soy Milk- 400 calories

Yeah I always worry about buying things and them going bad. That's why if I can, I like to buy things like frozen fruits and veggies because for example with broccoli I have it only every so often and if I bought it fresh I'd only use a small portion of it and by the time I want it next it's gone bad. So I buy bags of frozen broccoli and things like that. So that helps reduce things going bad. HAHA, speaking of things going bad I found half a green pepper that I had forgotten about yesterday, lemme tell ya that was thrown away so fast, lol.

We are allowed a treat, so I say enjoy your movie and popcorn! I know for my UBC program we're doing Sunday is our rest day (no exercise and we don't need to watch what we eat that day). So instead of eating the random crappy things every so often, I'm gonna stick to having my treats on Sunday when I'm supposed to, lol.

Those pills sound like they sure did a number on you. If you still have more, make sure you take them while in bed, that way no falling on the stairs!

Good luck on all your exams and things! I'm so happy for you that you're almost done! WOO!

Oh and don't think of it as breakfast 1 and 2, it's breakfast and a snack! But it's not so bad anyways, I heard that your breakfast should be your biggest meal of the day anyways. My breakfast alone today was almost 600 cals! But I ate late so no snack before lunch. So it evens it out :)

Wow, how did the 3 exams go today? I hope you have a really good sleep again tonight. Falling up the stairs hurts like a son-of-a-bitch don't it? lol Man, I hate when I do that. And I do it without the drugs!

Okay first off I have to say I love cheerios so good choice on that one!! ;) And I can't believe you have so many exams to take all at one time, I'm sure you did well, as you seem to study a lot, so I wouldn't worry about that. :) Hey when you eat peaches do you buy the ones in the can?? And do you like the egg whites?? I see a lot of people on here eat the whites only, I'm not sure if I can handle that or not, I guess it's just another thing I need to try. :) Is it the same thing as those egg beaters?? Well, I hope to hear about how your school day went, I hope you were able to stay awake and focused. Did you get any bike riding time in today??Or did it rain all day?? It rained all day here. We have really dry summers, so I'll take it that's for sure. Have a great evening and I'll check in tomorrow.
Kim

Alright I exaggerated...I didn't actually fall but I did stumble. One of those sort of shock-you mis-steps, because I was so out of it. All of my exams went really well, thanks for asking guys. :)

Risty Thanks I will enjoy my weekend, and indulge in the popcorn. I'm happy you're getting at least one day in where you can have a little fun too. ;)

I agree about frozen veggies...I want to go pick up more, but I was reading this vegan website today (obviously I'm not a vegan, but it had really good information about nutrition posted) and it was talking about all the different sort of recipes you can incorporate into a very simple basic diet.

2Skinny Be careful! Don't slip in any you-know-what in the backyard tonight :p Miss 150. ;)

MissLadybug Oh me too! I've loved M/G Cheerios since I was a kid and it felt nice to snack on something I loved years ago. I don't buy them in the can but I do buy the unsweetened peaches in plastic cups that are in their own juice. They're 50 calories each.

I love egg whites. Really. 17 calories each and protein-rich. I do believe they're the same thing as Egg-beaters, which are good and are just flavoring and coloring...but I'm just used to cooking the egg whites and adding in whatever I want. I think the more you cook with unprocessed ingredients the better.

Nope it became really warm around here today. My body isn't ready for summer yet but my mind sure is. The sunshine was beautiful...I do love the rain as well though.

Hehe, well I'm glad you didn't actually fall! I hate those stumbles, scare the crap outta ya! LOL

I've heard about egg beaters but I've never tried them. I get the pure egg whites in carton and you just have to pour them out! It's awesome! I don't wanna bother with actual eggs and then separate the yoke, and what will I do with the yokes? So yeah, I get just the plain egg white carton. I always have one in the fridge.

Hey, could you post me a link to that vegan site? I would be good for ideas on how to get in more veggies. All I tend to do is steam my broccoli. Or add peas and corn to things, lol.

Morning Luke!! I'm happy to read that your exams went well. YEAH!! :p Are you planning anything exciting for your weekend?? I have so much to do, I hope I can find time to get online and post in my diary! I'm going to try some of those egg whites in the carton that Risty spoke of, I'm willing to try anything at least once. And I'm also going to look for those peaches in the cup, that sound delicious!! mmmm, I love peaches, when I was in grade school my neighbor had a peach tree and we would pick one everyday, she also had a nectarine tree and needless to say, none of those ever went to waste. Now that I think back, we actually took a lot of fruit from others yards, oh my gosh, I was a little thief and didn't even realize it. LMAO~~:D Well, I need to get going and get busy. I hope you have a FAB day today.
Take Care
Kim
