I have to remind her the goal is inside the lines hahahaha. She doesn't really like playing with me to be honest. :rolleyes: Speaking of which I hear some serious thunder in the background so I'm not sure if we'll be able to play. Maybe it's just a movie night.

oooh a thunder storm! I miss those! :D I used to live in Alabama, and in Colorado. Both places had many more T-storms than here in western washington. Oh well. Have fun either way!
 
Xorie I guess I’ve always mistakenly associated Washington with lots of fantastic thunderstorms! That’s a bummer then, because I’m like you, I LOVE thunderstorms. I went for a ride by the bay because I love to watch it come across the water.

Ok I know that I’m always whining. But I must vent a little bit more. All of my friends are lazy boring lushes. Not my girlfriends that I grew up with, of course, just the party crowd down here. I start my new job on August 20th and in the meantime I’m whittling down my savings so I really don’t have much money to be wasting ingesting empty calories and on overpriced alcohol. I would go out but I don’t feel like sitting in the smoke when I’m trying really hard to quit for good, and observe everyone getting shitty. :whine: I’ll stop. I do miss going out dancing though, but it’s really difficult to go out without drinking and smoking! ANYWAYS I did lift on the machines tonight, it felt good, but I don’t want to lift on the machines. I’ve got this distaste for them since I’ve been hearing everyone talk about how terrible they are around here. SO I have made a decision to hassle a trainer and get them to teach me the correct form with free weights. I just hope they’re a good knowledgeable trainer that doesn’t blow me off. I think I’m going to do what Cym did after reading a post of hers in another thread, go in armed with questions and I think I may also workup a chart to keep in a little binder. I’m going to make that appt. on Monday.
 
You still end up using a lot of machines even when you do free weights. Like the lat pull down or the seated row (both for the back), and I like the one for your chest but you can face the back and do the backs of your shoulders, plus the cable for working the triceps. I personally dont think circuit training is a bad place to start as you gain some strength and learn a bit about form, reps, resting and stretches (I like to stretch between sets). But it is fun starting the weight lifting. After several years at it it can get a bit boring, hence my time to take a break for a few months.
 
Morning Sara!! Oh I liked your venting!! I got to a point once where I felt the exact same way, minus the smoking part, I never took that up, so I didn't have to deal with that end, but I know from others how hard it is to quit, so good for you!!! :jump: I guess that's why when my gym came up with this Group Groove class I jumped all over it, because I LOVE dancing, and that's all I did in high school and Junior high I was either in drill team or pom-pom so I was always doing something dancing related. I didn't go to much in my 20's because I had small twins sons at home and you know I hated leaving them to go out partying, so I just waited and waited, and NOW YIPPY SKIPPY it's my time!! OH YEAH, they are grown and my hubby loves to dance so we get out every now and again and get our groove on, he's actually a damn good dancer thank gosh! HAHAHAHAHA :) Did it end up thundering and lightening yesterday on you?? It rained here for about 30 minutes, then gone. Strange right?? Today is cloudy YUK, but hot. Hopefully we can get our pool going. OH Good luck on your trainer, I hope he gives you some great tips, ask all the questions you can, let me know how it goes. Later Gator!!

Blancita Thanks for giving me some examples. That’s good to know, because I have been entirely confused on this subject. I’m going to study the workout sticky to learn more about what I should be doing for a well-rounded workout.

Miss Ladybug It did get stormy yesterday but only for a few hours. It was really beautiful! I love it that you love to dance too! I miss it so much, dancing by myself just isn’t as fun as feeling the energy of a crowd. I’ll start going to clubs again soon once I feel I can include alcohol into my lifestyle.

Well today is a beautiful day and I feel great. I want to do quite a bit today so I’m hoping my sis will actually play tennis with me, but it is 95 out at the moment so…maybe it’s a little hot right now. I’m going to get on the courts either way though so I may just end up hitting the backboard and practicing my serve. Kim has me thinking about the pool though so I may end up going to my moms. I don’t know but I’m determined to be really active today! I hope you all have a lovely Sunday! Oh yeah and I’m 2 lbs. away from my minigoal of 165, and my new measurements are posted. I can’t wait to get my hips and thighs down.

Thanks for stopping by. I was reading about your issue with partying, and I feel you--it sure is difficult to hang with party people and not start consuming empty calories--and get all that second hand smoke, I hate that the worst! Congrats on almost reaching your mini-goal!!
 
Curvie Girlie Thanks for the rep and saying hi! YES it is so hard! I'll be able to manage going out and being healthy at the same time at some point, like the way you went out with your girls the other night. It was about socializing and dancing, not getting drunk. I can't wait.
 
Yes! i think what helped was we met a cute guy who happened to be one of the nicest people I've ever met to distract us. Heh heh. Oh yes, and we were dancing our asses off to a rock and roll band--which is funny for me because I listen to rap :p
 
Curvie Girlie haha that's so funny! I'm opposite, I listen to rock and yet the only thing that's played in clubs around here is rap and electronica-but electro (which I prefer) is only the gay clubs. So I may very well see quite a few cute guys there but it's just not as fun obviously haha.
 
Hey, I don't think there is anything wrong with certain weight machines. There's a few I really love, have no idea what they're called though, lol. Good luck on talking with a trainer and getting some exercises. I'm sure if you tell them what you want worked, they'll give you good exercises :)

Sorry I got you craving pasta! But hey, if you eat it sensibly then it's perfectly fine!

About the whole dancing thing, I never really had fun dancing because I always felt self conscious. I know I shouldn't let it affect me, but it does. Maybe when I get fitter, thinner and toned I'll go try again. The clubs are just not my thing, lol.

How in the world are you able to control your appetite to that extent?? I only wish I could have 2 days as low as you :confused:.

Are you getting enough protein? This GNC protein whey powder is so tasty so worth trying if not. I have the strawberry and orange creamcicle flavors, which are so good mixed with skim milk. The powder has 20 grams of protein per scoop and 100 calories. We had talked about these shakes in Risty's diary but at the time I was using this other powder that was nasty compared to this yummy GNC brand.

Anyway, great job!
 
Risty Yeah I was sort of on a rampage whenever I posted my frustration about weights. I just can’t help but feel really incompetent when it comes to lifting and I take it out on my diary and this forum and I apologize that you all have to see it. I sort of just want to get in and out of the gym tomorrow so I’m not sure that I’ll talk to a trainer tomorrow, but I may make the appt. for later in the week. I know ‘later’ isn’t the solution to my problem, but I feel like taking that approach at the moment. I know what you mean, I feel really self conscious too. I think that you’ll uncover an entirely different side of yourself when you feel good about your weight, although you should because you’ve lost what like 60 lbs? That’s awesome Risty, I can’t wait until you post one night about how you just had a fantastic time bumping and shaking all over the club. I just came back from my sisters and we’re like little zombies when we get together, blaring hiphop and nodding and grooving hahaha. I feel the groove again! That’s a sure sign I’m getting back to my normal self.

Blancita Thanks! I feel good about the measurements too, and I slipped into a pair of jeans today that I haven’t worn in 2 years. My mom got to see me for the first time in a month tonight and she was so happy to see me looking better! Haha funny you should mention how I keep to a low cal intake, as I just had my highest calorie day in a long time. I didn’t go to the gym today either which I’m disappointed about but whatever, all I have is tomorrow. I don’t know, I’m always a little hungry but I’m terrified of eating more and falling back into the pattern. I need to keep myself restrained and I’m doing an alright job of it. You’re already pretty fit and you don’t have as much to lose, and ALSO you have a child! I would be eating tons more if I wasn’t able to focus so much on myself, the only way I can manage it at the moment is by carrying on this constant dialogue in my head about how I’m going to lose weight. And no, I’m not getting enough protein at all, thanks for the protein powder tip, I have been wondering, could I put my vanilla protein powder (it’s not whey protein though) in my berry smoothies? Does anyone know? I worry that it’d be gross, but I guess it’s worth a try.

So I hit around on the courts today with myself. Not nearly as fun but I did get out there. I felt a massive binge coming on so I called my sister and went over to my moms to play a heavy game of monopoly with Chels. If she won, we were going to go for a walk, if I won, we were going to go play tennis. She won, and we just didn’t do anything hahaha. So tomorrow after Pilates and spinning I’m going to scoop her up and we’re going to go play tennis AND go for a walk. Although we practiced not slumping while sitting around playing the game. We tried strengthening our cores while sitting up straight. We’re such slouchers. I know I’m rambling a bit, but I’m waiting for my sleeping pills to kick in before I can crash so I can wake up for the gym tomorrow. Ok…..well have a glorious evening everyone, sweet dreams.
 
I put strawberries in sometimes when I drink the vanilla milk powder drink. Don't think it will be any different with protein ones. It's yummy! :)

Pinkydolly thanks! I think I will try out a protein strawberry smoothie tomorrow. I'm sure it will be good, instead of OJ I'll use vanilla soy milk perhaps...I don't think vanilla powder would work too well with OJ.
 
Pinkydolly I tried it and I think my protein powder is just sick, the strawberry protein smoothie was terrible. I’m sad.

-Exercise Today: 60 mins. Pilates/60 mins. spinning/90 mins. Tennis Drills!
-Miles Today/Total Miles: 0/179.4 miles

Sara, you have got to try the GNC brand of whey protein powder, this stuff is so yummy and I am not exaggerating. You really do need to crank up your protein if you want to retain your muscle mass while restricting calories. Also, it is impossible to grow muscle without adequate protein, so your new weight lifting efforts will be for naught if you dont figure out a way to add in some protein.

I only wish I had your discipline with the calorie levels...
 
Blancita Ok I know I need more protein...but it's so much effort to cook chicken and fish, and protein powder would be nice and easy. So just GNC whey protein powder, no flavor? I will pick some up. Thanks :) Also, if I can do it you can certainly do it. You can! You're trying to stay at 1800 right? I know that most people say eat the most during the morning to take you throughout the day, but I fall prey to my cravings at night, so I try and save a good 600 calories for my evenings, so that I can have something substantial and I don't feel too much like I'm restricting. I use mind tricks all day long. Like I just had two pieces of toast with turkey/cheese/mustard, and I immediately wanted to go make another two, but I just picked up my laptop and entered what I ate, and I realized that if I did have another two, I'd have to have a lousy dinner, and that's enough to prevent me from eating more. Ok I hope you have a nice day!

So I'm about to go pick up my sis so we can try and play some tennis. Hope we burn lots of cals...It's brutally hot outside though.
