Losing Weight in the Land of Chocolate and Cheese!

ARainbow - about the extra 500 calories - not sure about that, I'll do some hunting around. But seeing as the mayo clinic thing tells me that to maintain a healthy weight at my height I should be eating 2200Cal, it seems about right anyhow. Yep, we are planning more kiddies, so we'll just have to see how this being-away-from-my-family thing turns out when I have a few more! And I LOOOOOVE that thing about feet! That is awesome! Can't wait for THAT!

Cate - HGH indeed! I've even started to cry in ads now - even the ones in German! haha. They just have to have some emotional music, and I'm a wreck. :) Well I think you were one lucky chook to be feeling so great during pregnancy! Already I'm having nausea, but no vomiting, so that's good. I heard that the more nauseous you are, the healthier your baby can be... but not according to you! haha.

Irish Princess - HELLLLLOOO!!!! I will happily take your well-wishes from Ireland! Thanks for being happy for me! We are stoked :)

WEIGHING MYSELF
It's very weird to rethink my weight like this - to aim for health, but not weight loss. I usually weigh myself every day on my WiiFit, but doing that in my 'current condition' (haha) will just drive me crazy, whether I gain or lose, or whatever. So I've decided Saturday mornings I will weigh myself - the same day that Duncy will take a photo of my belly.

That said, I weighed myself yesterday as a 'just back home' weight, and I had put on 0.3kg. Which is less than what I thought, considering all those peanut butter cups! Today, though, I woke up now (at ONE O'CLOCK - what the?!?!?!) and I've lost 1.2kg! WHAT THE?!?! Which makes me now the lightest I've ever been since I started this 'healthy eating plan! What the? I feel weird about that - like I shouldn't be losign weight... but it IS one o'clock...

Anyhow, that makes me 81.2kg. My BMI is 23 point something. Insanity.

FOOD YESTERDAY

- oatmeal with milk and dried cranberries
- 1/2 pear and herbal tea
- small bowl veggie soup
- tuna, tomato risotto with capers and some parmesan (I ate too much of this! It was yummo!)
- thai yellow curry - stacks of veg with a little turkey breast - with a little brown rice.

Alright, gotta go eat something before the nausea kicks in.
xxxx Love to all from me and Beanie!

AHeya Joh and Beanie :)

I won't tell you about my pregnancy nausea until you are past yours!!!!! I had a really bad time and don't wanna freak you out lol.
Don't worry about losing or gaining, if you are eating healthily (which you are) then Beanine will take what HE (i have just decided you are gonna have a boy) needs. I didn't keep much down at all til i was about 20 weeks and both Jack and I were fine. Just go with the flow hun. :)
I don't know why i just thought 'She has got a boy' i just did. :)

A:) Hi Kate! So funny that you think it's a boy! I always thought I'd have girls, but I've got the feeling Beanie's a boy too... and Dunc and I were both originally saying that we'd probably prefer girls (mainly because I have a sister and he has sisters so we know more about it!) ... which also makes me think it's a boy!

I had wanted to find out, but we had the discussion today and Dunc doesn't want to. He wants the surprise. I think actually getting a real baby at the end of it is surprise enough, but I want to do as much as possible to make him feel involved in all the decision making processes, so I think I'll give him this one. :) I'll probably continue to think it's a boy, and if a girl pops out I'll be surprised!

Not worried about my weight, but still want to monitor it so I don't put on a lot more than what they recommend. I felt kind of bad today that I had lost weight today actually... but I'm being healthy, so s'all good.

FOOD TODAY
Breakfast

- 1 slice multigrain bread with fresh tomato and herbed fresh-cheese (dunno what that is in English! Kind of quark? maybe? but a cross between that and cream cheese?)
- tub natural yoghurt and 1/2 pear
- tea with 1/4cup milk
Lunch
- leftover tuna and tomato risotto with some frozen spinach stirred in.
Snack
- 4 chunks fresh pineapple
- 10 toasted nuts (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, cashews) with middle eastern spices and sesame seeds
Dinner
- 3 corn cakes made with wholemeal flour and some grated zucchini (YUM! Felt like somehting a little bland and these just hit the spot! Dunc loved them too)
- Green salad with lemon/olive oil dressing

EXERCISE
Was totally exhausted again. My man keeps trying to get me up and doing a little walking, so he came for a bit of a stroll for me... not much.
- 30 minute very slow stroll
- 20 bridges :)
- 20 dolly parton pushups ;)

Looking forward to startig pregnancy yoga in a few weeks!

AOooh what are Dolly Parton push ups

I didn't know what i was having when i was pregnant. Friends had said that it adds to the excitement not knowing.
Boys have way better toys by the way!!!!! Way better than dolls :)

AOh no :( I can't believe that Dunc wants it to be a surprise!!! Honestly, meeting your baby for the first time couldn't possibly be any more magical and emotional, whether you know the sex or not. Try and talk him round! I really want to knoooow! You will have to decorate the nursery in gender neutral colours, and that's not good! And if you have a baby shower when your pregnant everyone will buy lemon and beige clothes, and when people stop you too coo over beanie they might ask if its a boy or a girl. FIND OUT!!!!! Find oooooout!!!!!!!

The 500 calories is for breastfeeding, D'oh! This says you only need an extra 200 calories a day in the final three months... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1252141/Eating-just-myth-Health-Service-advises-mothers-be.html

I had awful sickness as well Kate, but like you I am not moaning about it! If you do have it bad though Joh I can fully sympathise. On boys toys- Lily said to me the other day when she was watching a doll advert "But I don't want a doll.... I want a helicopter" lol. She has the right idea.

I was looking at a courgette salad recipe the other day (I thought of Kate and her courgettes actually), I had never thought of having them raw before. Some people said they went watery quickly, did you have that problem?

I can't believe how much weight you have lost even after your holiday! You have done fabulously today :)

Hi Joh, I think it's good that you are starting your pregnancy with such a healthy BMI & losing a little while you were away is a bonus, when you know that you are eating well. I never wanted to know the sex of either of our babies. A little mystique in your life is good for your soul. Good on you Dunc! BTW our nursery was red & white & red is still our OS's favourite colour. It was such a cheerful room! I had mostly red & navy baby clothes. This whole pink & blue thing is seriously over-rated. LOL Love to the 3 of you, xoxo Cate

ANot much to report today except for my first throw-up. Ew. Felt like SHITE this morning. Dunc helped me to eat a little something though, which has made me feel lots better.

About to call the families and let them know! I couldn't sleep much last night because I was so excited to tell them. Dunc is being a PAIN though and he has to finish something for work first. I want to call them NOW!!!!!! He says I have to wait half an hour. GAH! Stupid work on a sunday morning!!!

Katie - Dolly Parton push-ups are what Rainbow said when I first called them 'fake girly push ups' haha. And I love dolls! Just sayin... haha

Rainbow - I read that all out to dunc and he just thinks you're funny. :) We'll see. It wouldn't surprise me if, when they ask if we'd like to know, he just ends up shouting out YES! ;) And your Lily sounds like a treasure. With the calories thing, liek I said before, it suggestsbetween 2100 and 2600, but my maintenance is meant to be 2200 anyway, so it all works out. :) I didn't actually have zucchini raw last night, but I think one of the nicest salads is to use a vegetable peeler to make strips of little zucchinis, it almost looks like fat flat pasta with a green edge. Then drizzle it with lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper and it is SO yummy! Mu mum has always said that zucchini is an underrated veggie, and I agree!

Cate - :) A little mystique is good for the soul? But I wanna know! hahaha. You are totally right about the pink and blue thing being overrated. We have a couple of transgendered friends and it makes me a bit funny to think that I'd be labelling my bubba so early. So I think I'd be pretty yellow and green oriented anyhow. And I love the red and white thing! Cute!

I just wanted to say Congratulations for the good news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish you have an easy time and get so much comforting you'll feel like a baby yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:beating:

The throwing up will go away in time.

I heard that ginger is great for that feeling!Give it a try!

ASo sorry about the tummy feeling yucky!! I had all day sickness with one and not a stitch with the other.....I always kept a few graham crackers on the bed side table...and ate them before I really moved around...it helped a bit....and if nothing else at least I had some thing to "toss" instead of dry heaving....O you poor thing....it will get better ...I swear!!

Look into the ginger thing...I heard it could help...just talk to your Dr first before taking any thing .....all us "mother hens" are going to drive you nuts!! " :)

ARGH!!!! OMFG CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

I missed the big reveal! But I'm so happy for the two of you! (I never did finish your bike blog though whoops)

Yeah it's 200 in the last trimester, and 500 if you breastfeed after 6months, stay at 200 until then I'm pretty sure.

I'm assuming you know what foods to avoid etc so I won't go all into that!

I just get super excited and carried away when people are pregnant :)

AOh no :( Stop making your mummy sick beanie!!!! I wonder if other creatures get morning sickness, or whether its just humans. Morning sickness is horrible. I literally couldn't do any thing all day then the two hours before I went to bed I felt fine again. Hopefully it will just stick to mornings with you. I found eating little and often helped a bit, but your doing that anyways.

How did telling the families go? :)

I agree about going over board with pink. Or blue. Its not exactly original. My daughters room is a bluish grey with dashes od green and a few pink bits. I love her room. Need to get a carpet (theres just a big rug) and I am torn between yellow and pale pink. My son had a navy carpet when we moved in which is good quality and in good condition, so I had to do blue in his to tie it in. But there is a lot of red silver black and white in there as well.

I knew I should have been less hysterical in my knowing-the-babys-sex reasoning. Oh well. You still will have mystique til your twenty weeks pregnant. Just sayin' (where did I get that from lol).

I've peeled cusumber like that and its pretty. The courgette recipe I saw said to grate it. I can imagine that being extra watery than vegetable-slicing it.

ATold my family! I will never forget it :D They were SOOO HAPPY! My mum was a crying mess and dad had to put down the other phone to go and cuddle her. Then every 10 seconds she would say 'You're having a baby!". And Dad just kept saying how he was overjoyed for us. So nice! I then called me sister and she had a couple of minutes of crying and laughing hysterically and saying that she can't have imagined a more perfect thing to ever happen in all of the world. SO NICE! AH I feel so much better now that they know. Phew! And they didn't say anything that made me think they'd be sad that we are so far from home... so that's great.

Struggled with eating today, but managed it! Didn't want to eat, but made myself, andI eventually got my apetite back at 10.30pm. Unfortunately this was the same time that pizza got delivered (we were having a quiet games night at our friends' place and had planned on getting vietnamese for dinner, but I got outvoted.)

FOOD TODAY
- 1 wholewheat cracker
- 1 slice multigrain toast, 1 tub natural yoghurt, 1 ring fresh pineapple
- Salad with lettuce, radish, carrots, tomato, capsicum and 4 little cheese cubes with a lemon mustard dressing
- 2 wholeweat crackers with cottage cheese and capsicum
- ginger tea
- 3 slices pizza with capers and anchovies (trying not to have too much food guilt... I've been so good, and it's better than me not eating any dinner at all...)

EXERCISE
- 30 minutes gentle walk

Here's a pic of me today, at 6 weeks and 6 days pregnant, at 81.1kg - the smallest I've been since I was 19. I feel little! :) But I want to have a normal appetite so I can eat properly!

And I love everyone else to be excited too! :) Especially because I can't tell everyone yet, so here is where it is! Yeah, I've been doing stacks of reading and research, butfeel free to throw anything you might think useful my way, partifcularly things that just worked for you. :)

Awh thats great that your family are so happy for you:)

You look so thin in that pic, and HAPPY:):) to think there is a little boy or girl inside that tummy of yours is amazing!!:)

Congrats again deary xoxox

AAwwww, am I allowed to be happy that your Mum was a crying mess? If so, then I am! If not, then we will just move swiftly on!

When I was pregnant I only felt hugry for what I fancied. I could wander round the supermarket for over an hour umming and ahhing over what to get. I tended to sit down on the shelf stacking stools ever now and then to recuperate as well. I just didn't fancy ANYTHING! Although I could always eat a KFC. Or a jacket potato. And loads of foods and smells I loved before I became pregnant made me feel sick. Jam doughnuts, pure orange juice, egg mayonaise. Romance perfume. In fact all smells became sickening to me. I was a barmaid when preggers with Charlie, and the smell of cigarettes made me throw up about every 20 minutes. The boss eventually got pissed off with me spraying air freshener constantly and banned me from doing it. Oh well. I got through a can of air freshener a day at home as well :)

I am so jealous of your skinny little tummy. I bet you are going to have a lovely bump :)

APrincess - Thanks for saying I look thin! I feel so happy that I managed to get myself to a healthyweight for this little Beanie! :)

Rainbow - :) I'm so glad that you are happy that my mama was a crying mess!!! :) I was too! hahahaha. Yeah well check out my food below and you'll see that I'm on the same bandwagon as you were, darlin. No more veggies round here right now! And I had to take a train today... there were SO many gross smelling things on the way there. and everyone around me smelt hideous! Like smoke or beer or strong perfume or something else... Wish I had air freshener on me at the time!

Food... ugh... even the word makes me want to vommy. ugh. Wish my appetite was like this a few months ago when I was trying to lose weight!

As seems to be the norm, I only managed to properly eat anything after the sun went down. And I've eaten SHITE food today, which makes me worried, but I can't fathom the thought of stomaching vegetables.... hmm... weird. Annoying when all I have in the house is fruit, veggies and wholegrain stuff.

FOOD TODAY
- 1/2 tub of natural yoghurt 3 chunks of pineapple
- 1 boiled baby potato with a cup of chicken broth
- 1/2 tub cottage cheese
- macaroni cheese
- small tub vanilla rice pudding

AHeya skinny

You are so skinny!!!!! and these are your 'pregnant' photo's. I agree with Ruthie, you are gonna have a cute bump!
:(:(:( So sorry to hear that you are suffering. I was pregnant at the same time as someone else at work and she sailed thru hers and i was awful....I HATED HER!!!!!!!! lol
I wasn't gonna give advice or say anything about my pregnancy sickness (i won't call it morning sickness cos it SO wasn't) First of all, eat what ever you can stomach, i really wouldn't force yourself to eat something your body doesn't want. I lived on really plain food for a good 6 weeks, like potato, white bread, plain crisps and bananas.
This next bit is gonna sound gross but.......Throwing up food is way way easier than dry retching!!!! eat often!
You will get use to it. The smells, the feeling sick etc. I actually had a routine around my throwing up lol. It's weird looking back now, how you just work round it all.

Thinking of you sweetie, When you can feel beanie, it all makes it soooooo worth it :)

Lol, nothing worked in particular for me because I don't have children yet!! But I work with pregnant women a lot. I can't say too much but I can jump in with general advice now and then.

1 quick thing though, it's not the ginger in ginger biscuits that settle your stomach it's the carbs! Ginger is meant to be pretty good for it, but eating very little and often is the best thing for morning sickness. My mentor at work used to eat half a cracker at a time until she could handle bigger things!

I can't wait to see your progress pics as you get bigger, I bet you're going to have one of those really neat bumps!

AO deary...you make me miss my babies.... I've been browsing old pics and it makes me a bit sad that they are "men" now...and i love it...but to be honest...I loved every stage....from the moment I peed on that stick..... to right now as I scrub muddy cleats.

I'll share a fav prego crazy lady story with you.....I never had crazy cravings...no ice cream with anchovies or pickles dipped in chocolate....but when I WANTED something...I WANTED it NOWWWW!!

So one stormy and snowy... borderline blizzard day...I innocently asked the hubby to go get pizza....he replied with "ok hun...where from" ..."well from the Mall of course" was my reply...he had a look of pure terror in his eyes I have never seen before....he was either afraid to drive to the mall 45 minute away on country roads in a blizzard or the fact that he would be stuck in a blizzard with a prego lady who couldn't have the pizza she wanted...and needed!!

I didn't get my pizza until 3 days later and I never forgave him to this day!! haha But he did bring it to me in the hospital after my hysterectomy to make up for it 13 years later...lol.

Enjoy it all my dearie...its a fun and crazy.... full of love ride!!!

Hi Joh, I'm just popping in to tell you that your fantastic photo above has inspired me to snap out of my fog & get moving.
