Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

You have such smart plans! Your whole weight loss you have gone about it in such a smart way. Sometimes people set their cal goals so low that it's crazy and you know they are gonna lose all their muscle mass, but you've just been so smart about it!

Thanks Mystic,

Yeah from the beginning I've tried to take a "what's the best most proven way to get this done" approach and it seems to have served me well. It hasn't always been easy, but I feel like it's helped a bunch.

Anyway 165 again this morning, with a 14.6% on the body fat monitor. That's a new low percentage on the monitor and obviously since that 165 matches the low weight from yesterday, that's a new low for the total body fat calculation as well.

Had a nice day at the parents yesterday. Seems like they are also concentrating hard on eating better now and my mom signed up for Curves and has gone several times trying to get in shape. From a selfish perspective, not having so much food around when I go over there will be easier for me, but the reality is that it makes me happier that it means even better things for them.

Cardio day today. Not sure what I'll do. Am up a little early, but this might become a more permanent thing. Bright sunshine at 6:45 am and despite my shades drawn, my bedroom gets pretty bright around then. Tough to get back to sleep if I wake up.

Great job MrVee! We were there once before our training career. Went through ups and downs, but fortunately found our happy and healthy lifestyle medium that works for us. In addition, it's working for countless others.

Keep up the good work MrVee!

That's great news that you have most probably inspired your parents to be healthier Vee. Our sons must have worried about my health before. It feels good to be fairly fit & active now, especially when we see so many people our age hardly able to walk.

That's nice for you MrVee!!! I think I'm probably the only person I know that always had the opposite problem going to my parents place, they are CRAZY health fanatics and even me with my generally healthy diet gets critisized for eating certain things. They grow all their own produce, all their meat and dairy comes directly from a farm (my dad is a gardener, he has a client that pays him in half a cow every quarter or something), they only eat raw dairy etc. Yikes. I used to spend all my time at friends places growing up so I could get junk food!! Haha! I guess it'll be good if I'm spending 2 weeks there this time around, unless I'm buying my own food I'll be incredibly healthy my time at home.

Great job on the new % low!
That's awesome that your parents seem to be following after your example and trying to get healthier!

Well...

163.5 this morning. That this is a new low goes without saying. That would be 211.5 pounds lost overall. 15.2% on the monitor.

That weight would put me at a 22.8 BMI for the first sub 23 BMI of my adult life. I set 161 as the goal because it would be, roughly, a 22.5 BMI. That's 2.5 pounds away.

Staring Tuesday of next week, I'll have a week of having relatively little control over my food choices, and even controlling the amount will be difficult as I'll be stuck in a room for the majority of the week. Now that's not really a complaint as the reality is that this is the time of year where my job gets the most interesting and exciting, but it is the hardest time diet wise. Exercise wise I should still be able to get the work in, either in the morning or at the hotel after I get back.

Point being, after seeing that 163.5 (and without a plummet on the monitor), under normal circumstances I might up my calorie output immediately. But making an adjustment when I have only 5 days left before the disruption is probably not worth doing until I see where I'm at when I get back. I realize this falls under the category of "thin person problems," but I can't help it; when something weird happens in this process, it can't help but throw me.

I'll take it though. :)

The changes in routine, especially when they involve not being at home are always hardest on the diet. I try to have the mindset of eating at maintenance so at least I'm not 'hurting' anything just not progressing, however I usually struggle even with that!!

164 this morning (more like 163.75, but whatever). 15.5% on the body fat monitor.

A while back I posted a link to a study that predicted body fat from height, weight and waist measurement. I saved the equation, but it looks like this website's software has been deleting external links from older entries. I'm pretty sure I found the old post, but the link appears to just have been deleted. And I can't find the study on Google. I mention this formula because way back when I got the DEXA scan in fall of the 2013, it was the one online formula that happened to be pretty dead-on with the DEXA results.

Anyway, the waist measurement is supposed to be taken at the mid point between the iliac crest and the bottom of the ribs (which for men is usually really close to your thinnest point. Anyway measured that today and it was 29.4 inches. So plugging that 29.4 in with 5'11" and 164 pounds, and I get 14.2% body fat.

I did this, because it sure looks like the excess fat I still have is starting to noticeably disappear. I'm effectively bodybuilding at this point (believe it, Broseph!!!) and so that's really the big key now. So if it is really around 14.2% that's good to know.

Anyway that's enough math geekery for today. Finished my sprint intervals this morning.

And speaking of bodybuilding and science (NSFW):

163.5 this morning 14.5% on the monitor.

The 30 day linear weight is 165, with a weekly slope of a 1.3 pound loss. Since I know what day I reduced my calories and have tracked the daily weigh ins since, this data seems like it could be quite useful in nailing down a pretty close approximation of my weight loss versus calorie intake. So this could definitely help get a good approximation of how many calories I'm burning a day.

Final lifting session of the week and I only have one more on Monday until my trip. Will try and lift during my trip, but the schedule could prove tricky.

Did not get enough sleep last night as racing thoughts (work related) kept me up.

163.5 this morning (damned plateaus!!!), 15.0% on the monitor.

Evaluating my business casual wardrobe for the trip and realized I needed to buy pants. Tried on a pair of 32 waist, and they were laughably big. The size 30s were a touch snug, but not much and I'm still losing weight. And so I'm now in size 30 slacks somehow. It's very interesting how much I've lost off my waist size in the last 10 pounds or so. It's been a good two to two and a half inches. Now part of that isn't so much my waist (my natural waist is clearly under 30 inches at this point) as it is my thighs and butt. Indeed it's always been the oversized part of me, and was indeed the last to go, but it's clear it is now going. Bought size "small" underwear (that just describes the waist measurement) as that should help with the fit of the slacks.

Need one more pair, I think, as I'd like to have two in addition to my suit pants. This will keep me from having to go to the cleaners every single day. Will head out to Macy's now. Still have a little time if I don't see anything I like, but cash is tight and I'd rather not have to resort to higher end type places. My size 32 slim fit jeans, which were a little tight 6 weeks ago when I bought them, are a little baggy, but should do unless I see a great deal on smaller ones.

Finally, we had a really nice run this year, but yesterday the trips finally came to Phoenix with a high temp of 102. Today's high 103, tomorrow's high 104. It will get hotter than this. Well at least I won't miss any good weather while I'm gone.

It's a shame that you've hit a plateau. Just keep at it though. Look at how far you've come! It's amazing.

Gotta say, I hate buying work clothes. Well...I don't enjoy clothes shopping much at all, but work clothes are the worst.

Clothes shopping must be weird for you right now, in between losing fat and bulking up on muscle. With your planning ability you´ll probably only need the tiny pants for a really short time!

162.5 this morning. That's another new low. Heading out for cardio but will leave with a quote from my dad from yesterday:

"My God, you're skinny..."
