Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

I NEVER knew how to smile for the camera, without looking demented. Weird is OK, btw. Practice Mr Vee, practice. Get some work done to pretty them up if you can. It does wonders for your confidence & will help with the not-too-distant, (hopefully) dating.
A smile goes such a long way. You have lovely eyes & obviously a great sense of humour. If it will make you feel better about yourself, getting some cosmetic work done to your teeth will probably have women falling at your feet. Ok- I am doing some not-quite-drunk, but have had a rough day & yes, have-had-some-red-wine posting....whoops! Won't read this & will quickly post! Cheers, with the last of the bottle...too much wine, not enough food xo Cate

Oh how exciting getting rid of all the big clothes!!! I can't wait to start doing that. I'm at the stage now where some of the smaller clothes are fitting and it feels reaaaaaaaal good :) Soon soon I can get rid of my fat clothes too!!

As for the smile thing....if you are taking the photo yourself just tell yourself a joke until you laugh and then snap.

273.5 this morning. The model says 273.5.

An interesting link is this . Now BMI is not that hard to calculate which happens to be one of its weaknesses in that it's too simple a number for a complex concept. But the interesting thing about that link, is that instead of just adhering to the standard categories of "normal, overweight, obese, etc., it also gives you the percentile you're in for Americans your gender and age. IE, if it says 78% that means you have a higher BMI than 78% of the Americans your age of the same gender.

So at my target weight of 185, while the CDC would classify that as "overweight", I would actually have a BMI that puts me in the 46th percentile, meaning I'd have a lower BMI than the average man my age. Considering that the evidence that a person with a 26 BMI is less healthy than one with a 23 BMI simply doesn't exist in even a general way, the percentile method seems a much better way to go.

I mention this because in a few pounds I will finally escape the ">98th percentile" category I've been in on that site forever and start the process of slowly dropping down the percentile ranks. The link for women can be found .

HA cool - i tried it! :) I don't really fare well just yet... 95 percentile... uff
Thanks for sharing the link!

Yikes. I'm in the >98 category. Not for long though!

I don't know that I agree with you about the pecentile being the better way to go. It takes the average and deviation from the average. If the average is still fat, then that doesn't necessarily mean you're at a healthy weight.

Right. The point is what is "fat?" If you're talking strictly the effects on health, the current BMI categories favored by the CDC are further off that standard than the percentiles are.

IOW, if your standard is that everyone with a BMI over 25 is "overweight" than yeah the average American is overweight. But there's no particularly good reason why that should be the standard. Certainly no medical reason if any of the recent studies done on the subject are any indication.

I agree with you on that front. I think the BMI chart is warped and not appropriate for a large percentage of the population. It recommends I be at 150 lbs, but I TRULY don't think that would be a healthy weight for me. I know every fat girl likes to talk about her big bones, but I genuinely have the bones of a god damn wooly mammoth and would probably be better at 170. So, I do agree that the BMI system is definitely not ideal, but neither is the percentile approach.

Good job on matching up with your model!
Tried that calculator and am at 46% I think. Once I reach my goal weight I will be at 34% I think it was. Need to get 12% down! Haha.

274 on Wednesday.

Gonna get some basketball in this morning, I think.

Little bit of a mini-plateau going on, but that's sort of been the pattern lately. Wanted to hit 272 by month's end and that certainly is still within range.

I agree with you Cory! I already look slim with an hourglass figure when I am 200!!! People would never believe how much I weigh!..even though I am only 5 feet 8 tall. My goal weight is 180 and according to the BMI i would still be overweight. For me the (highest) recommended weight is: 164lbs.

272 today. And that's finally a new low (first time I can say that in a week and a half).

Something must have started growing around here the last few days because the "ALLERGY ATTACK" is on! I'm fortunate to some extent in that I don't have them very often, but when I do get them I get them something fierce.

Back to the personal training this afternoon and I have another one tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to move on Saturday.

272! That's awesome, MrVee.

Funny thing about your allergies... people used to move TO PHX to get away from those Spring allergies; now with all the irrigation and cultivation, PHX has allergens, too. Weird.

Keep up the good work. There are a lot of people looking to you for inspiration. :)

Great work on 272 ! .... hope the allergies dont' get too terrible,
and hope personal training goes well . ;)

New low of 272? EXCELLENT!!!
I take anti-histamines all year 'round as I'm allergic to most fragrance :(
You are an inspiration to many people Mr Vee. No pressure, but it would be really sad (& hard to imagine now) if you gave up. I think we can all see the changes in your confidence & your outlook on life, & that is always an inspiration. Cheers, Cate.
BTW I had a 'drunk' posting in your diary & I don't think you noticed!

I noticed, I just didn't want to point it out to anyone. :)

Again thanks everybody for the kind words. I feel like it's going to be harder from here. I've been losing at a rate of about 12 pounds a month until this month and I feel like that's now going to slow some. My hope is now that my estimated BMR is actually below my daily calorie calorie intake (just barely), the slower weight loss will be accompanied by a greater percentage of that loss coming from fat.

I'll post some post dentist pics on the 1st or 2nd since it's a new month and time for that anyway. And there will be no giving up. I eat what I want and I enjoy the exercise I do, what's there to give up? I got more of the five other deadly sins than I can handle, I can give up gluttony and sloth without missing them at all. :D

271 this morning.

Personal training this afternoon and then I have the weekend off. Playing golf with my parents on Sunday.
