Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

271.5 this morning. My little hand held inaccurate body fat monitor thingy gave me a sub 35% reading for the first time today at 34.9%. Looking at which tries to predict body fat from height and weight (and then waist circumference for men), based on my height and weight alone, I should have a body fat% of 37.5%. Based on my height, weight and waist circumference it should be 32.9%. Whatever.

Anyhow, the dentist yesterday was more of a "let's see how much money you're willing to spend sort of exercise rather than getting any actual work done). We'll see how much I'm willing to fork over.

Haircut and personal trianing today.

Every time I try to enter my data into a body fat calculator, it just answers "YES" -- What does that mean?

I discovered my dentist was milking me when for the third straight year my annual checkup came up problem-free... and he suggested that it was time to replace ALL my old fillings with more pleasant looking white material rather than the ugly, old fashioned silver amalgam my previous dentists had used. Uh, no. I'm good. But thanks.

269.5 this morning and that's the first one in the 260s.

According to the model, I will reach 185 in 359 days. So that means I'm less than a year away from my goal weight. Having some patience problems this week though. Happy with the way I feel, but not nearly happy with the way I look and how I look is really all that matters. :D

Congrats on the crazy good success over the past few months and being well over the halfway mark now. Must be an amazing difference in how much more you can do since starting last July.

You're so vain. You probably think this song is about you. :puke:

Wow 269.5! Don't be pleased if it keeps you motivated, but that's the only reason. You've done terrific and you're looking great!

It's weird that your measurements of body fat varied so much between the same two measurements that were pretty close for me. Your average Bf is pretty similar to mine. Do you know have a projection of what it will be at 185? That seems like a very light weight. My quick calculations say you'd have just over 5% BF at 185 if you kept your same lean body mass.

269.5 with 35% BF gives a lean body mass of 175.5 so 9.5 pounds over your current lean body mass would give a little over 5% BF. So either you expect a significant reduction in lean body mass or you'd be really close to essential body fat levels. I'm not trying to poke holes in your goal, but there is a possibility that your frame size/amount of muscle won't support that low of a weight. Maybe a 185 or X% BF whichever comes first would be an improved goal?

I don't know enough about human physiology to know what kind of lean body mass loss you can expect, so I may be concerned for no reason. Obviously you needed more muscles to stand and move about when you were >100 pounds heavier. If you have BF% from then you would know what kind of lean body mass changes you've had so far. I will look at that for myself as well.

Well yeah "if" I kept that lean body mass, but some of the weight I lose from now until then will be lean mass (and other things like fluid), it won't all be fat. At 185, the NIH model predicts 17.7% body fat. This comes from an initial estimate of 48.1% body fat at 375 pounds. I came up with that, basically by trying to find the beginning body fat% that would result in a 34.8% body fat% today (which is my best guess right now). Of the 190 pounds lost from 375 to 185, their model estimates 147.5 will be from fat, 42.5 from non-fat. So far it estimates that of my 104.4 pounds lost so far, 86.1 is fat, 18.3 is non-fat.

That model also says that when you go into maintenance from there, you'll gain a little weight, but your body fat% will continue to drop a little bit.

I dunno, we will just have to wait and see. Generally though, every method I've checked suggests I have less body fat than you would normally expect from someone my height and weight.

Hellooo 260s !! Nice job, MrVee! You continue to prove that having a plan, determination, and putting forth the effort WILL give you the results you seek. You are the "rabbit" in my own marathon. If I get tired, I remember that you have set a pace that will help me finish the race. So I just plod along. Keep it up!

We are in the same boat in that regard.

I've gained a little over 11 pounds of lean body mass since I've started losing weight based on the Naval calculations (199.04 to 210.21). That would explain the long lack of scale movement, but I would be surprised if those numbers didn't swing hard the other way. That's not how things are supposed to work. We will see how things go from here on.

Edit: The other two calculations have me with a loss of lean body mass of 2 and 5 pounds.

Waaaaaaaaaa you are catching up with me! I literally have been at a standstill since end of Jan!
You are doing so good ! Well done! :coolgleamA:

270 even this morning.

Had some trouble sleeping this week. Have had a ton of things racing through my mind, and when I have trouble sleeping I'm usually kicking those around in my head for hours. That said that's usually a symptom of something else than the actual cause. Need to stop having caffeine a little earlier in the evening I think.

No personal training today, will probably do a basketball workout. Want to try and get out early tomorrow to get a chance to go on the mountain. The highs are now getting into the upper 80s and that's a little to warm for mountain hiking. It's not even 9 am yet, and it's already 69 degrees today.

I've been trying to avoid even thinking about it, but I'm afraid I have to start on my taxes this weekend. Ugh...

Will you still do outdoor activities next month when the temps start to fly? In the Summers, I used to shoot for 6am tee times at the golf course to play and be done by 10am, just so I wouldn't melt. I would still sweat, though, as it was already 90 by the time I got off the links.

Well, I try and golf every year in the stuff, and I have such a lousy time usually that it doesn't seem worth it. Mountain hiking seems like a no go.

But casual walking isn't too bad, bicycling wouldn't be too bad if I ever decide to replace my stolen bicycle. And walking at night is usually pretty pleasant as long as you bring some liquid along. My parents have a pool, but it's not really of the exercise variety. Come to think of it, I have a pool in my apartment complex too and it's a nice one too. But I'm not yet comfortable enough with the way I look to actually use it. It too really isn't an exercise thing.

My body fat% estimate says I reach 25% body fat on October 21 (217.6), which is about three weeks past swimming season. Checking the weather site, the avg high on that day is 87 and the average low is 63. The average high on today's date is 82 and the average low is 57. So I don't know, maybe toward the very end I might be happy enough with my body that I'd swim in public. I realize I'll probably have some loose skin issues though...

I'm also planning on spending a fair amount of time out of town this summer, some of which due to work. Will likely take a couple of trips back to the small town in Illinois where I'm from (Chicago).

I remember a cool Summer day in Phoenix of 117 degrees. I wanted take a dip in the complex's pool, but the water was a bit nippy at 90 degrees... that's not a lie. The pool had little spray nozzles that sprayed a mist of pool water back over the pool just to try and keep bathers cooler. I used to like going to the lakes out east, past Apache Junction. That's a nice place to swim and enjoy the heat.... or maybe the Prescott area. As far as swimming in public, I've noticed lots more men swimming with thin neoprene tank tops and overshirts... part of the growing weight problems in the US, I suppose. But it is more common.

Hi Mr Vee, thanks for the idea of working on my putting & chipping. That sure is turning a negative into a positive. Congrat's on 270. That's excellent! Will you get a new bike if you move? Maybe moving near a gym and/or a decent sized pool would be a good idea. You may find that your skin will retract as you are not losing at a really rapid rate & you are still young'ish. You know, most people are so wrapped up in themselves that they don't really notice others. I feel the same about myself, but it's crazy. I never look at someone exercising & think "euuw, loose skin." I think "good for you!" Go for it Mr Vee

Mr Vee just caught up on your diary a bit and firstly WOOOOOW on those pix - you look amazing and sooo much younger!!!

Also congrats on the 270!!! You will get back in the 260s in a few days. You are so inspiring Mr Vee!!
