Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

296 on the health-o-meter this morning.

Normally today is mountain hike day (or some other outdoor exercise) but it is cold, at least by Phoenix standards. Was a mere 28F a few minutes ago but my thermometer on my browser now says 32 with a high of 47. So I'd rather just work out in the club. Except my new hiking shoes came yesterday and I'd kinda like to try them out. I suppose most likely the mountain will still be there next week, and, unless I leave them chained to my bike rack, so will my shoes.

Had sort of a rolling dinner last night: ate some of it at 3:30, some of it at 5:00 and the rest at 5:30. Still the right amount of calories, just did it in an odd way. May try and score some almond butter today over at Sprouts. I'm assuming that's my best spot to find it.

Break in the new shoes on the treadmill and they and your feet will be ready for the mountain when it warms. It's 71 here and pouring rain. We need the rain, but it's been a cold winter so far by TX standards (snow on Xmas), but the warm wet weather is killing my allergies.

Wow.. your doing great, and you definately made the right decision!
Could you please your height?[/COLOR] Thank you!

Mr. Tim the Monster: My height is 5'11" which is 180 cm. Thanks for stopping by. It hasn't happened in a while, but every once in a while I treat the board to "drunk posting." Always fun.

Mighty Quercus: We had the really nice weather earlier in the week, get ready for the cold stuff.

Did the treadmill for 40 minutes in my regular trainers (the new ones fit pretty perfectly so I'm not worried too much about breaking them in). Then I decided to shoot a few baskets for another 20 minutes or so. OOPS! Time for four on four full court basketball!

I hadn't played an actual game since the last time I posted about it here which was two on two half court at about 318 pounds. So we played two games: played well in the first and hit the game winner for our team, and then played decent defense but couldn't shoot any more in the second as I was exhausted. We lost. More importantly, I made it through both games in relatively okay condition. Full court (fortunately it wasn't a regulation court which helped a lot) is sort of an extreme workout for someone my size and age. Even in decent condition, carrying close to 300 pounds up and down the court is not easy.

That is to say, my cardiovascular conditioning from the start and even from two months ago has taken a massive step forward. I was less tired playing full court four on four today than I was playing two on two half court less than two months ago. It feels good. Rest day tomorrow.

Dang man, you'll need the rest. I can't wait to be there fitness-wise although all the cardio in the world won't help this brick factory in Bball.

However you have the one thing I'll never have: height. I was a relatively decent player as a kid, but just not tall enough. While my shooting is there from all the shooting around, the rest of my game in a competitive team game has a bunch of rust. I'm also not light enough yet to move off the ball very well.

But I'm very psyched again to be playing a sport that not long ago I was certain I'd never play again.

How awesome is it seeing non- weight loss related results from being healthy! Well done on getting through two games. I'm terrible at all ball sports, I wasn't born with the coordination to play any unfortunately (or even enough to stop myself from walking into door frames at least once a day!)

Ooo did you manage to track down some almond butter? That stuff is the shiz!

Didn't hit the Sprouts today. It'll be around here somewhere. Maybe at the Sprouts or even possibly at *gasp* Trader Joe's. And even if neither of those places have it (which I doubt), there will be some sort of specialty store in Scottsdale somewhere that will have it.

You are just doing so amazingly well! That scale just keeps dropping and dropping! And you're doing so great with you workouts. I need to get that drive back!

Great job on the basketball Mr Vee! Nice to hear you're playing a sport you enjoy. Are you considering joining any clubs, or is it social games?

296 again this morning (though maybe it was closer to 295.75).

In case anyone was wondering, two or three months ago any type of physical effort like yesterday would have left me wishing for death and reaching for Advil this morning (you can go back in this diary and see me say talk about such mornings). But the aches and pains really do lessen some the more you exercise and the better shape you're in. I still feel it, of course, but it's much more a light soreness than anything that bothers you too much. Or maybe it means I'm not pushing myself hard enough, though after yesterday that seems unlikely.

Finally although I've seen no sign of it, this morning's weather forecast:

You really can be proud of yourself!!! You have achieved a lot since the summer!
Keep up the remarkably good work!! :D

Lol my weather forecast is 38C and sunny, then 40c with thunderstorms Wed and Thu. Eh. There's another tropical low on the way down the coast which they expect to form into a cyclone towards the end of the week, don't think it'll hit us but it's bringing serious storms and a monsoon trough. Just what we need! (Has rained here twice in the last 9 months... If that rain comes we are gunna flood big time!)

296.5 on Monday morning.

My mom's birthday today so I'm heading off to the parents house for dinner and a tiny slice of birthday cake. Back to the personal training in an hour and a half.

Gonna try and cut down on the diet soda some. Not only is it probably not good for me at the amounts I'm drinking it, it's also expensive. Gonna try and reach for water when thirsty and see if I can stick to no more than two diet cokes a day, none after say 3 pm. I've known this for a while, but I'm a big believer in not making too many drastic changes at once. I'm now comfortable enough on the diet and exercise changes that I think I can attack this one now.

Aye, been considering the same recently in terms of the sofa. Personally pepsi max is my downfall! Was watching a random foody show recently that was talking about the sweeteners used in diet/zero versions of drinks (specifically Aspartame), and how it's generally considered a lot worse than sugar! (200 times sweeter than the same amount of sugar) :banghead:

You considered trying any of those flavourings for water? (The weird little crystals that dissolve and flavour it). Just gives it a different taste when bored of plain water :)

Steve

Add me to the Needs to Stop Drinking Diet Pop Club. I gave up the regular full strength version, but still can't kick the diet. Maybe one day.

Haven't tried any flavorings for the water as I generally don't mind the taste of water. I did however buy a filter for my tap as the Phoenix tap water is notoriously bad tasting. The water is safe enough, but they don't get rid off the algae taste when they treat it, so I need a home filter for that and there isn't one on my fridge.

I actually still have the regular stuff every now and then as a treat for a dessert, or after a ridiculously intense workout instead of my snack. But not very often. But I've been drinking way too much of the diet stuff. One to wake me up in the morning. One with lunch, and that should be good enough. It's important to get this done now, because when July hits around here you have to start drinking liquid by the truckload.
