Now!

I've got into the worst habit that somebody trying to overhaul their entire lifestyle could ever, ever, get into. Everytime I go into what is basically my own bathroom, I step on my scale after I've done whatever it is I had to do, and it's causing me to go a little nutty because weight increases and decreases all day long, and one minute I'll see a number that I love or I'm okay with, and then I'll see a number I hate and I thought was wayyy behind me. This past week I've expected and accepted higher numbers because I've got the Female Curse. It's so frusterating knowing that I'm doing everything I can here and eating decently and that because I'm a girl there are going to be times where I get on the scale and it's going to say things I'm not going to like and I won't be able to control it. And it's even harder when as each day passes I see changes and the scale isn't changing with me.

I'm also slightly stressed out about college; my dormmate and I have yet to hear about where we're going to be living because we're at the very top of the waiting list for the dorm that we want, and I haven't gotten stuff back for fiancial aid, and I'm worrying about how I'm going to pay for all the stuff I'm going to need and how I'm going to get a computer for myself to use.

I tried pilates this morning through this DVD we had on our shelf; it was relaxing and not as hard as I thought it would be. I didn't have as much trouble with it as I thought, and it was actually kind of relaxing, so maybe it'll help with my stress levels along with writing about my dieting here instead of my Livejournal because my friends there don't really get what I'm going through although they're happy for me.

I hope that after my body returns to normal I can get from 324 to 323 or 322. I'm going to do my usual thing on my stationary bike or play DDR for an hour or so and then do pilates later, and see if it helps my results any.

do the best you can to not step on the scale more than once a day... it will make you crazy that the number changes -but it's yourbody =-it's going to do that - it's normal... If you must weigh every day, do it first thing in the morning, after using the bathroom... and don't step on the scale again til the next day (though once a week may give you more accurate results.)

Do take measurements as well -you wll often see changes there before youo will on the scale...

Maleficient: Thanks! I think I might try that, but it's going to be hard ignoring the scale as I use the bathroom...I think I might have to put it in the bath tub and get it out in the morning when I weigh myself! I took a bust measurement a week ago and it's gone from 48 to about 43, which makes me really pleased because I don't have to wear a bra extender now!

This morning I got up, ate breakfast (consisting of a bowl of this multi-grain cereal that looks like Bran Flakes and 2% milk), took a bath, did the usual 10 miles on the bike and I did pilates again. It was easier than yesterday, but that was partly because I knew what I was in store for and I knew that I could do it since I did it yesterday. I can already feel a difference in the way I stand and sit and walk around, and that's made the changes in my body more noticeable than before. I feel a lot thinner than what the scale says and I feel like I can move around a lot easier and that everything in general is easier.

I've also noticed a change in what I crave and how much easier it is to say no to junk foods that I used to love...last week my mom fixed chicken patties for my little brother and I ate one of them, and it was SO DISGUSTING that I don't ever want to have another one of them ever again, and I've caught myself thinking about how nice a salad would be or just a simple turkey and cheese sandwich would be on the white-wheat bread we get....it's such a good change and it's nice to know that I'll be able to say no to the kinds of food I used to eat when I'm at college.

sounds like a lot of great progress you're making.

Its said it takes 28 days to build a habit, and you are totally on your way to building new healthy habits :) well done :)

Moving into college is soo stressful!! It looks like your are making great strides on your journey. You seem to have set very realistic goals for yourself. I too have an issue with obsessivly stepping on the scale and then obsessing over the numbers. Thankfully my scale at home broke and I have refused to buy a new one. I am now only going to use the scale at the gym and have set weigh in dates. Its very difficult to not hop on the scale everytime I see it. Keep up the work. If you need any help or encouragement or even if you just want to chat feel free to pm me.

Jenna and Maleficent: Thanks for all the praise and encouragement! I'm still trying to shake off my bad scale habit, but I'm proud of the fact that I've only gotten on the scale three times today and four times yesterday compared to doing it about ten times a day or more.

I didn't work out yesterday because my mom was home and we were going to go see my great-grandma and grandma, and boy was that...tiring. Although, my great-grandma who has always made little quips about my weight noticed how much I've dropped, and things were good until my mother's aunt, who is obese and at least 350 pounds showed up and began to say really horrible things about my grandma and her relationship with my grandfather, and it was like she and my mom were trying to get my great-grandmother to focus on each other's flaws and problems so they wouldn't bring their own out...and then we went down to my grandma's and my aunt and uncle were there with their daughter and we had dinner. Eating around my aunt and uncle makes me uncomfortable, so I ate very little and just drank water and tried not to talk as much as possible...they don't ever say anything to me about my weight, but I can tell that they disapprove of my weight.

In order to keep myself off the scale, I've decided that every time I get on it besides the one time in the morning, I have to do an additional two miles on the exercise bike. I figure that my hate or being on the bike longer than I feel like I have to be will keep me off! I've done a bit better today than the past two days; I did my pilates DVD and seven miles on the bike and I'm going to do eight more later on today. Eating wise I so far haven't done so well; I had a bowl of cereal for breakfast and some chicken strips for lunch.

I've also got a bit more inspiration for me to lose weight; because the senior pictures I had taken at school were awful and I didn't order them, my mom is going to take me to have them done the week after next, and I hope by then I'll be down to 320, and then down to 315 by my birthday. Hopefully by then I'll be fully down to a size 24 jean or even a 22!

Biiiggg Victory!

:eek2: I BOUGHT A JUNIOR'S SIZE 19 TANK TOP TODAY! It's been YEARS size I got something from the junior's section, and I'm only almost 18! It makes me so happy that I finally have met my first goal- being able to buy from the junior's department and not the plus!

Truslyer: Thank you!

Today I did pretty well with the eating front; I had a small apple for breakfast with a little bit of peanut butter, two small turkey and cheese wraps for lunch, and Mom took me and Nathan to Wendy's for dinner and I had a small fry and chicken nuggets with water. We walked around Walmart and stopped at Fashion Bug because they were having a summer clearance sale (and it's ONLY July!) and I got a denim skirt and a pair of capris. I also did very well with exercise- I did 13.5 miles on the exercise bike and an hour's worth of pilates.

Thanks, Jimb12!

I couldn't be more proud of myself or love my scale more right now. I woke up and did my usual thing (i.e., get on the scale) and it said 321! That means I've dropped 3 pounds (29 in total) and have dropped 4.4% off of my BMI, although I don't really consider my BMI at all because it's pretty much useless. I'm so happy; I was hoping to break my 324 barrier this week, but I wasn't expecting to go so far down! Pilates has really woken up my body!

I watched the Dr. Keith Ablow show today while I was doing my bike workout, and he had a group of female body builders on who were talking about the stereotypes of bodybuilders, especially the female ones, and man, do I have to say, they've got such determination and perseverance that it's mind-blowing! Plus they all had HUGE self-confidence that it was really amazing when a lot of people don't respect what they do or like the way they look! They were all very sculpted and still looked really feminine! It makes me want to do more weight training, but I don't want to become buff; I want to be long and lean with curves and SOME muscle definition.

Congrats!!! You're doing great. It feels soo good when you can buy things you havn't been able to buy forever. Keep up the great work!

Lindsey, you are doing great! How awesome is that, to buy a size that is out of the 20's??? Cool beans, indeed!

And kudos on getting a handle on the constant weighing-in thing -- you can do it! I have a good example of why its a bad idea -- a co-worker and I are doing Weight Watchers, and we started a Wellness Challenge at our office -- so we brought in a scale. We found our selves weighing all the time on the office scale, and getting really frustrated when we'd go over to WW and the number would be sometimes the same, sometimes less, sometimes more. My friend almost quit one day...our scale said she lost four pounds, the WW scale said she had gained.

After that we decided...only one weigh in per week, and use the same scale each time. It was too hard to be all emotionally involved each day on what was going on with the scale...hard enough to do it once when it counts!

Keep going with those pilates! I've always wanted to try, but worried I won't be able to do the moves.

Hi Lindsey

I think it's great you've taken the initiative to learn how to do Pilates and ride the bike on your own. I've had Pilates videos for years, and yet I've never really done them, it takes a lot of determination to learn something new. Congratulations on your Juniors clothing! You are doing a great job, keep it up!

I think you are doing great, you have a good attitude and will be successfull in reaching your goal.

Thanks guys! It feels really get to get some praise considering that my parents really don't.

Today I slightly backslid and ate some things I shouldn't, but I did do 13 miles on the bike and I'm over what I did eat and I'll do better tomorrow. We went to the ballpark yesterday to see fireworks and we had to walk from this parking lot that's about a block away from the ball field, and I did that back and forth without getting out of breath....we had to stand under an overpass thing for an hour and a half because it was pouring the rain, and I had no trouble doing that, either...it makes me really proud that my stamina is so much better!

Wow 13 miles on the bike is great. That shows how much stamina you have built. Its great that your not letting one day of not eating perfectly hinder yourself. Keep up the great work.

~Jenna

Thanks guys! 13 miles on my exercise bike is nothing...usually I do 15 miles (one set of 7 and then one set of 8) and pilates, and sometimes even 20, but today I decided since I walked so much yesterday at the ball park and out shopping that I needed to break just a teensy bit.
