Hello! Just wanted to say Hi!! LOL I can't imagine trying a recipe and not knowing the what everything is!! Good for you for doing it!!:)

Congrats to the BF, oh yi-ah!!
I tried to give you rep and it said, "You have given too much rep in the past 24 hours, yada yada"--pshaw!

This is all so touching, yay!

1 ounce = 28 grams (if we're dealing with solid measures)
1 ounce = 30 ml (if we're dealing with liquid measures)
1 cup = 240 ml

Years ago,I bought a great cookbook in the UK, I spent hours converting all the recipes from metric to something I could understand :)

then there's the abbreviations :) ounce = oz, pound = lb :D

thank you thank you thank you. so that's what 1 cup is. really didn't know that hehe. i thought it was less. and that was what was so confusing about those ounces since it goes for solid as well as liquid.

The other day on teh Spanish language television station, I was watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High, a movie I've seen 100s of times -I was about 45 minute into the movie when I realized I wasn't watching it in english :) I don't speak a lick of spanish other than to be able to order in a restaurant.. Just watch foreign movies you know well :D

this is how i actually really learned english. my aunt started speaking to me in english (she's south african) and i really wanted to learn how to speak it. i was maybe 3 years old. i can actually remmeber that i watched a movie when i was about 8 or 9 and understood everything. i do similar now with german and it is actually how i keep my italian alive lol

Damn girl - I forget how much action your diary gets heh heh heh heh...are you feeling less stressed and happy abt gettin in that elliptical

oh and i forgot to say i did another 5 miles on the elliptical yesterday and it took me 16 minutes and 45 seconds.

my food today:

Breakfast: kellogs special k with low fat yogurt
snack: 1 misura fruit bar and 1 schneekopfe musli bar (both are for diabetics with whole foods in them and no artificial stuff. misura bar is 82 cals and the other one is 90 cals)
lunch: risotto with a bit of parmiggiano and some salad
snack: 2 low fat fruit yogurts with omega 3, some fruit
dinner: probably canned tuna (no oil) mixed with a bit of chopped onions and peppers - very refreshing :), but only if i'm really hungry if not i will have an apple or something

oh it feels so good to be back on track :D gotta remember this feeling.

YEAH!! Good for you Lena!! Don't stop doing that elliptical that is going to help shed those pounds quickly, and 5 freaken miles, HOLY COW! that's some hard pushing on that thing. Good job!! Keep it up!!
Kim

awww thanx everyone :) i am trying hehe

ok i have another question. when it says that you can have 1 cup of rice. is that 1 cup of cooked or uncooked rice?

When it says you "can" have one cup of rice, it sounds like this is out of some kind of food plan and probably means one cup of cooked rice. That is the most rice I would eat in one meal while controlling the amount of carbohydrates. On my plan, one serve of carbohydrate = 1/2 cup of rice.

If you are following a recipe and it says 1 cup of rice, that probably means uncooked.

I'm glad you're feeling back on track!! :) It's great that you're doing so well with your exercise despite the lack of a gym too. :)

well i mostly make risottos or pilav...the difference is in length and the way you prepare it. i always use whole rice (not wild one) long grain. now i made it as pilav...first i cook it in salted water, drain it. in separate pot i put 1 tb spoon olive oil, 1/2 onion, or 1 small one finely chopped, i put all sorts of seasoning, added kurkuma, a little water, today i put i tea spoon of ricotta and some grated parmiggiano cheese and then put rice. then you just stir until all blended. you can do this with veggies, with chicken or anything else.

when you make risotto, you so practically everything the same but you put uncooked rice on some olive oil and onions, season it, add water (or broth - chicken, beef, veggie, fish broth) three times more then rice and cook, stir every now and then so the rice doesn't stick. in the end add parmiggiano r whatever you want in it and that's risotto for you :D

the first one takes about 15 minutes, the second takes about 20-25 minutes :)

oh ok now that's clearer. well it was actually for me to measure how much actually do i eat rice. now i put uncooked rice in small coffee cup (makes it easier to prepare risotto for example) that's about 100 grams of rice. i eat this much rice only when i don't anything else with it. this is why it was so confusing. mal explained today that cup = 240 grams so my eyes popped out lol :D that's probably the cooked rice hehe

Hey Lena,

A serving of rice is generally 1 cup cooked. If you have a kitchen scale on hand, I'd measure it by weight since I think the labels on the back of rice packages account for the rice being "fluffed" inside that cup.

Those rice recipes look delicious!

thanx sunny :D well we don't have that on the back of labels. it only says about 100 grams of uncooked rice is 275 cals :) and that is how much i eat.

oh and i forgot to say i did another 5 miles on the elliptical yesterday and it took me 16 minutes and 45 seconds.

Oh my gosh, that's amazing! I'll be on the elliptical for 60 mins, and only make it 4.4 miles!!!! You're doing such a great job Lena.

canned tuna (no oil) mixed with a bit of chopped onions and peppers - very refreshing :)

That actually sounds pretty good. I have all of that, I'll make it sometime, thanks!

oh it feels so good to be back on track :D gotta remember this feeling.

I totally agree ;)

lol well i was going really fast and pushing myself :)

so i wanted to exercise yesterday but when i started running on the elliptical i really felt complete exhastion and couldn't move. its because of the heat, it is really really hot these days and you just sweat so i guess it is not very advisible to push yourself to the point where you might faint or something.

i put on trowsers i bought two weeks ago. when i bought them they were a little tight, now they're beginning to be loose so i'm really pleased with that. i also realised i didn't take weather conditions into account when it comes to weight. its summer, and during summer body retains more water. hence the weight doesn't go down that easy. therefore i'm not doing anything wrong :D
