Lena's corner

Aw Lena I’m sorry I wasn’t here to help when you were feeling down. I wanted to say thank you for your kind and empathetic words in my diary. It really has helped me. Also congratulations on your boyfriend’s job! I’m so happy for you guys! Wonderful job on your diet and exercise Lena, you have reminded me that exercise is GOOD and that I should look forward to it tonight, so thank you very much! Also yes, you are supposed to boil the oats. I have my oatmeal with berries and some cinnamon. I sometimes use natural applesauce/thin sliced apples as well. It’s very yummy and really good for you! I hope you’re having a nice night/or day! ;)

aw that is so sweet of you :D i'm glad if i could help :D
oh and about the oatmeal...how do you cook it by the way? i really have no idea how much water to put in, how long it cooks etc etc. i've never done it lol. we don't have much of culture of eating it hehe. i saw lot of people here eat it and saw it in a store hehe. explain it to me like you would to a child lol :D

Absolutely, and I love what you said about explaining as though you were a child. I am the SAME way! I really didn't understand why I had to put water in the dish to steam broccoli when I was reading some recipe. I thought that maybe I should submerge the broccoli for it to actually cook, and then I realized that STEAM cooks the broccoli!!! lol you are not alone-in fact you're probably not nearly as bad as I am!

One of the instant oatmeals that was available this winter had granola as a mix in - now that was really nice - some crunch mixed in with the mushiness of the oatmeal :)

that's cute :) I have a buddy who was trying to impress his girlfriend with a home cooked meal - that he was going to cook himself. So he asked for some recipes that he could handle -I don't remember what what I gave him, but somethings that were obvious to me (I have been cooking since I was tall enough to reach the knobs on the stove) went completely over his head and there was a crisis about the difference between mincing and chopping and a few other things :)

Like anything, cooking is easy when you understand the basics - but when you don't, it's really challenging - kinda like me and going to the gym :D

I had granola in mine the other day too, I agree, it was really perfect!

LOL yes! But what about if both of those are challenging? haha I'm pretty much good at eating! :rotflmao:

everyone has to have a skilkl :)

saw someone with a tshirt on last night -

Tri-athlete..
and there were pictures of a bottle of wine, food and i think music :) that was my kind of triathlon :D

lol i usually don't have a problem with cooking, but when you cook sth you never eaten in your life you really have no idea how is should taste so its better to go with the very basics hehehe
plus its the language thing. being a foreigner i really need some explaining as a child hehe :)

i believe 90% of people would love to participate in this type of triathlon. hell they should put it as olympic discipline :D

i always have to remind myself that english isn't your first language - you have a better command of it than some of us who it's our only language :D

Damn I forgot that English isn't your first language as well, I noted of course your location, but wow Lena! Enough said by the way, haha I'm laughing picturing myself trying to follow recipes in a different language. I'd hurt someone.

hehe sarah :D well its not that hard for me really, i just look it up in a dictionary if i really don't understand something. ingredients are sometimes a mess. and i still don't understand what oz is or what ounce is (is that same) haha

oz and ounce are the same thing, I can definitely see why that doesn't make sense! I tried watching a foreign film the other day that didn't have subtitles and so I was reading the film transcript and it was really difficult, obviously! I just wish my parents made me study other languages as a child so that it would be easier as an adult.

1 ounce = 28 grams (if we're dealing with solid measures)
1 ounce = 30 ml (if we're dealing with liquid measures)
1 cup = 240 ml

Years ago,I bought a great cookbook in the UK, I spent hours converting all the recipes from metric to something I could understand :)

then there's the abbreviations :) ounce = oz, pound = lb :D

The other day on teh Spanish language television station, I was watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High, a movie I've seen 100s of times -I was about 45 minute into the movie when I realized I wasn't watching it in english :) I don't speak a lick of spanish other than to be able to order in a restaurant.. Just watch foreign movies you know well :D
