another day down.

ok ok ok. Antother day another workout. 65 min of elliptical cardio knocked down. Today was moderately difficult, which made me realize that starting next month i am giving my self rest days! Its only fair to my body. I wanted to knock down 30 pounds in the first two months and after that i wouldn't mind averaging 10 lbs a month. so that is my new goal. Also today, for the first time in a long time, i am going to have a nice breakfast, not counting the bowl of cheerios that has been completely consumed by the workout following its consumption. The plan is for scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, 8oz of OJ, and a banana. Time to go cook!

I really am hoping to get to the point of pushing myself to do an hour min in cardio!!!! Did you work your way up to that? and also- do you change speeds and stuff or are you going at a fairly steady pace.


I found last night and the last two weeks that i am able to run at a 5.3 speed on the treadmill for 10 min... take 2-3 min walking fast at a 4.0 speed... and that is my routine. i also heard that once your heart rate is higher... you cant lose as much????? should i keep it slower then?


What do you do.

as far as i know keeping your heart rate up is what makes cardio, well cardio, there is a target heart to follow, i believe it is 60-80% of peak performance, whereas 90% would be something you hit during interval training.

As far as what i do,it goes like this. I use the elliptical, so the speed depends on you. use that over the treadmill, because need really good shoes to prevent my shins for burning like crazy, it is said you get the same workout from either machine. but anyway, when i go i set a goal of at least 7 miles. which means i go about 7 miles an hour on the thing. of course its a bit easier because you don't have to deal with the imapct from actually running. today i did 7.5 miles in the 6.5 min (5 min for cool down), but i was at 7.16 when i actually hit an hour, so a little over 7 mph. I try to stick with what i decide. monday i did 8.03 miles, which wore me out! but it was fun.

ok next. Getting up to an hour. its all in your head! i said i could never do anymore than 30 min on a good day. then one day, i finished and got to thinking that i could probably go for an hour if i wanted to, so i tried it and it was fine. this was maybe a month ago. it felt like forever, but i pushed through it. my suggestion starting out is to cover the time and just listen to music. It helps a ton. Nowadays, its a breeze. i feel cheated when i can't do an hour. I also no longer need to cover the time or need my music. its just habit now.

so in summation, don't let your mind trick you into thinking you can't do it. I will say this though, there will be a point where you feel like you can't do much more, and its just in your head. If you push through it, your body will get a second wind of sorts and you can keep going. i have a friend who started coming with me the past week and he has already done an hour. i worked him up to it, but he got it done. he goes 5-6 miles an hour though, but everyone goes at their own pace. I have a ton of stamina from playing tennis and such, so that is why i go a steady 7-8 mph. Also on my strength training days, i do circuits so that i keep the heart rate beating while lifting, giving me additional cardio along with it.

oh and don't worry about the girl thing. i am just glad i clarified in time!

oh one more thing, if you feel comfortable running at that speed where you are not about to apss out then i think you are doing fine! i think i can get about 3/4 of a mile at 6mph before my shins get upset.

day three begins!

hello hello! another workout closer to fitness complete, to day was resistance/strength. full body. two circuits. massive energy. completely worn out! it was good though. got in at 5:30 and was out by 6:30. loving it! ok ok. nap time then time for work!

Hello!!!! do you work out at 5:30 AM or PM?


just curious if you see a difference in the work out intensity and overall your feeling depending on differnt times of day? as of now i go at night AFTER work......

they are always wonderful workouts... BUT... i know the times i dont go.. .its cause my ass is dragging after a long day....

i am going to post this in both diaries, so bear with me. i go to the gym in the morning. I've this this year about putting me fist, so its the first thing i do before anything else in the day. by going between 5-6 am, it solidifies my statement. the good thing is i get to come back home sleep for another hour or two before my day really starts. the workout doesn't bother me one bit also the sleeps allows my body to burn just a little more than if i were awake.
I've only gone to the gym a couple times after work, and my mind is totally not in the game for it, which is why i go mornings. its a pick me up a boost to my day.

Hey buddy,

I liked your post about cardio. I've been trying variations of HIIT on my recumbent bike and I'm a huge fan. I'm still only doing 1/2 an hour (plus heavy bag time), but the intensity of my workouts is up 10 fold.

I really admire your drive to hit the gym and wish I had even half of your determination. And damn, I really don't have an excuse seeing as I have a practically have a full gym in my basement!

Can't wait to throw you a 200's party bro!
 
Rest for the body is good:)So0unds like a good routine you have set up for yourself and it prob does help going back to bed for a little bit and nice that you can do that:)
 
Another day another workout..

hello all,

Well, log another 65 min of cadio, glad its out the way now. time for a nice size meal as i am huuuungry! yesterday was interesting. i woke up at 5 am, hit the gym, went back to bed at 7:30am. woke up at 8:30, went to work, got home at 4:00pm, fell asleep until 9 pm. up til about 1:30 am, adn here we are again. I slept an awful lot! crazy! anyway i am about to de-sweat now and eat. i'll be on later to check other diaries.

well before workout i usually have a bowl of cereal. today post cardio i had turkey burger and eggs (mixed together) a banana, and a 8 oz glass of OJ. i thoroughly enjoyed it.

sleeping lots is good, so i hear, LOL...When you stay up till 130a, you still get up adn go to the gym that early...eeekkk, tha tis alot of determination!!!
 
man o man. today was the worst. i was at work wayyyy longer than anticipated. i am currently cooking because i am starving beyond belief! not only that, but its pretty much my bed time. so i am tired, and hungry, gotta eat, but also gotta sleep. need to be up in about 7.5 hours..... oh my goodness. i am going to enjoy this late dinner tonight!
 
ok after a good nights sleep i am back to normal. hit the gym made lunch for work, made a second breakfast, and now its time to shower and go. man i am really hoping i lose 3 pounds come monday!
