I really wish I could remember my food lists from undergrad finals time. Let's say large pizza, bag of doritos, bag of M&Ms and that was between 9:00 and bedtime. You're doing great. Just think how easy its going to be when exams are behind you.

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the support :)

I have FOUR pieces of good news for you all!

1)
I am 153lbs as of this morning! :jump: (And I REFUSE to moan about how 'it's only a pound'! I am so HAPPY that that one pound of fat is off my body-I worked damn hard for it!)

2)
My exam went great! In one or two of the essays I spent too long waffling at the beginning, and didn't leave enough time for detail at the end, and I forgot a couple of little details about things, but apart from that it really couldn't have gone much better!

3)
I have (so far) resisted the temptation to 'treat myself' to food as a reward for finishing the exam. I was feeling REALLY hungry afterwards (had breakfast stupidly early coz was up cramming!) and I wanted doughnuts, crisps, chocolate, ice cream, all the baddies... I had to drag myself through the high street, full of tempting shops, to get home, but I did and I ate my nice, big HEALTHY lunch as planned, and the cravings are still there but much less and I intend to keep it that way!

4)
It has FINALLY stopped raining! It's been raining, LOTS, for DAYS here (I had to sit through my exam with freezing cold, soaking wet shoes and socks lol! :p) But the sun is just starting to come out :jump:

Strategy for resisting cravings for the rest of the day:

Probably some of my hunger feelings are actually thirst, I haven't had a
drink since before my exam- ie 5 hours  so step 1 in defeating
cravings = drink lots of water, and a cup of tea! (I'm drinking water as I
type!)

Step 2) eat an apple, a handful of trail mix and a cereal bar to make sure
I'm nice and full!

Step 3) Then I'll brush my teeth! That always helps.

Step 4) I might have a nap! I've got time and I'm less likely to eat if I'm
not sleepy.

Step 5) If, after all that, the cravings are still crazy (which I don't think
they will be-I think it's mostly psychological) I will go and get something,
but I'll make it fairly good! Like, half a bar organic dark choc, something
like that... :drooling:

Here is my weekly post for the summer fitness challenge:

Week 2

This week has been OK, but not nearly as good as week 1, as my exams are now on top of me! Meaning precious little time for anything apart from revision (so exercise, and buying and cooking healthy food has bumped down the list of priorities, I have mainly been living on tinned soup and breakfast cereal!) I have still lost 1lb this week though :)

MONDAY weights 30 mins, walk 30 mins
TUESDAY week 1 session 3 couch to 5k, walk 1 hour
WEDNESDAY water aerobics class

Yay kez!!!!!!!!!!! :jump:

You are doing so great. I totally relate to that "exams over - time to relax/reward/go crazy" sensation. Fantastic set of techniques you're using to deal with it. You so deserve to celebrate that 1 pound loss! Well done!! Keep going! :D :D :D

I got a kick out of you saying waffling. When I studied at Oxford back in 1987, a professor told me a paper I wrote was full of waffling. I didn't want to act ignorant so I told him I'd revise it. It took me 2 days to learn what that expression meant. Even dropping a pound at exam time is amazing Kezzy. Be proud. We're all proud of you.

Verdict

Bad, :( but not very, very bad.

My second exam tomorrow and I am bricking it, to be honest!

BUT once this is over, I have only one more (Tuesday) and that isn't a 'proper' exam, on the stuff we have been studying. It is a general 'medicine in society' type paper, that is apparently easy to pass even with no revision! and it's only worth half what the others are. So I can breathe a big sigh of relief tomorrow lunch time. I just gotta hold out til then, it's hard, I am STRESSING!!!!!!

Take some deep breaths - put your hand on your stomach and feel your stomach move in and out with your breathing - drop your shoulders - make long, loose fingers....count five slow breaths... remember the proper summer coming so soon. Don't be scared of relaxing a bit - optimum performance comes with moderate stress.

Good luck. :)

Hey sweetie I'm really diggin on your posts and support of others and glad to see you're doing so well. Have a wonderful night/day, whatever it is over there right now!

Before taking your test find something that will make you laugh. Laughter causes your brain to secrete a stress blocking chemical supposedly. I always tell my students a joke before they take a test.
