keepitoff83's diary!

I always seem to be "bad" right before my period comes. My body doesn't want to behave and my cravings kick-in sweet (chocolate) and salty (anything salty!)

Yeah I was pretty good for the last day or two, yet my weight keeps going up. My sodium intake isn't even bad, so I'm not sure what's going on :( Oh well! Hopefully it's just water weight!

So I just got home 15 min ago......our last case ran late. It was really sad...a guy who had sarcoma in his scapula was having his scapula removed and when we went in we saw that the cancer was spreading through the joints, so in the middle of the surgery we had to ask his wife for consent to take his arm off....she didn't consent but I guess we will talk to him tomorrow about doing it next week. Can you imagine though if he had woken up with no right arm....So sad, because he wasn't expecting anything like this :(.

Anyway, I barely ate anything today and am too tired to exercise, so that's my night! I'm hoping to get the bulk of my exercise for the challenge in this Fri-Sun in case stuff like this comes up next week. It's nice to just take some days off of exercise, and today will be that day for me :).

man i hate to hear stories like that. thats so sad, hopefully it wont spread anywhere else. Getting in the joints is the worse.
I agree with you on the the exercise, good to let your body take a break. Hope you have a good day tomorrow!

Thanks Amber.....yeah it really is nice to take a break sometimes. I've been getting frustrated b/c all week I worked out despite being tired and my weight keeps going up. I just need to relax a bit :)

Sweetpea, no I am a medical student. I'm currently on my surgery rotation!

Yeah I'm curious to see how the patient takes it tomorrow when we see him in the morning. He was pretty sedated and out of it when I left work, so we wont get his reaction to potentially losing his arm or dying earlier b/c of the cancer until tomorrow.......ahhhhh makes me so sad!

That is very sad about your patient. That has to be the hardest part of being a doctor--when you have to give patients and their families bad news. :(

I'm sure your weight being up is due to :reddevil:. The bright side is that you'll be heavier for your weigh in for the challenge, so you're more likely to get pts for having a weight loss next week. ;) In fact, if tomorrow's is lower than today, I'd go with Thursday's. It's better to have your starting weight higher, so you do better the first weigh in. ;p

Hi, I'm new and I thought I would say HI we are team mates for the "Summer Solstice Challenge" Sorry to hear about your patient. I hope you feel better. We are going to great on this challenge. Yeah Blue!:cheers2:

Such a sad story! My boyfriend is a medical student as well and sometimes he tells me similar things...You must be very strong to do this kind of job.

Don't worry too much about the weight going up, it happens sometimes...Just keep on track and you will soon see a loss.

*hugs*

Hi Keepitoff,

I'm expecting TOM any day now too so my weight for the start of the challenge is elevated. It's up 2lbs from earlier in the week (but still down 1/2 a lb from Friday's weigh in). An elevated weight at the start of a challenge isn't such a bad thing I guess, lol.

I'm excited about the challenge. Buying my cabbage today and going to see how much of it I can eat today. Hoping to finish all 5 cups and be done with it. I've never really had cabbage so I don't know if I'm going to like it or hate it but will eat it in any case to get the points. I found a recipe I'm going to make so hopefully it wont be so bad.

Have a good day.

V.

Well yesterday was neither a good nor bad day. Definitely stayed within my calorie range of 1500ish. I did not, however, exercise as I was sooooooo tired from standing in on those long surgeries all day! Today, I'm about to run out to get some cabbage (YUMMY ;)) and then I'll exercise for about 1.5 hours today at the very least. I have no real plans to do anything exciting so I'll have enough time to workout. I have to work tomorrow but we only have one surgery so I should be off by one'ish (hopefully!). I'll get some more solid workout time in after that! Ahhhh this rotation is going to tire me out!

What area of medicine do you plan to specialize in?

I'm sure you burned some calories from being on your feet all day yesterday.

I always thought I wanted to go into pediatrics, but I'm not sure. I have to decide what I'm going into in about 4 months, so that makes me nervous! Sometimes I just want to do something that has a nice, easy lifestyle! We shall see!

Yeah I definitely burnt more cals that I normally do at the hospital. I guess that's a plus side to busting my butt at work :)

Just worked out.....didn't do quite as much as I'd hoped but got in an hour and 20 min doing some cardio and weight training! Eating has been pretty good today, went out and got the cabbage, so it looks like I'll be eating four cups of cabbage (already ate a little over one with my leftovers) b/w tomorrow and Thurs! Fun times :)

You are doing well. Dont worry about the weight gain. We all gain due to TOM. You can be the most saintly person in the world - when your body decides that it is time to retain water - the weight just goes up. The main thing is not to get demoralised when you see it happening.

I have been catching up on what you have been doing since I last popped into your diary. I could not do medicine - because I really could not handle giving people bad news like that (re that poor man who should lose his arm). You should congratulate yourself when you have one of those stressful days and you do not turn to food. I think that most of us on the forum could understand if you wanted some sort of food treat after such a bad day.

You are doing really well with your exercise for such a busy girl.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Had a long day today! But squeezed in some gym time and some cabbage!

Good for you! Motivates me to see a fellow team mate squeezing in exercise even though you are exhausted. It sounds like you have a very busy work environment, not to mention emotionally exhausting as well. I guess the exercise eases your stress though. Excellent job. Keep going! Go Blue!:smilielol5: Have a great day!

Mmm Cabbage! Got to love it! LOL

Love your new AVI! You're super cute!
