keepitoff83's diary!

So, I did about 50-55 min of exercise, 30 elliptical, the rest on the bike at a leisurely pace as I was reading my pediatric notes while I was on there :).

Overall, I ate about 1450 calories according to fitday. My sodium intake was VERY HIGH, about 4000 mg. I should've learned after that last challenge....eek! But, my fiber intake was over 30g, so I'm excited about that, and I had about 90g protein. I am not sure how much I should have, but I'll look into that and see how it goes :). It's pretty good considering I'm vegetarian and often have a hard time finding sources of protein (I know excuses, excuses). Overall, not a bad day!

Monday, Feb 25

Weighed in at 121.5 lbs this morning.

Breakfast:
Slim Fast Shake blended with 5 strawberries and 1/2 banana
1 clementine

Lunch:
Veggie Wrap with cilantro hummus (YUM)
12 baked dorito chips (my weakness)
1 clementine

About to go study....again. Will hopefully do some exercise in the evening when I get back. This week may be low on the exercise since I'm so busy but hopefully I'll keep it up.

Worked out tonight! 30 min on elliptical and 15 min ST!

Total calories for today: 1446 according to fitday.....but not a lot of protein, whoops!

Thanks for stopping by my journal. Just wanted to say that some days it takes a lot for me to get up and get started on the exercise. But once I get going, it's all good.

Worked out tonight! 30 min on elliptical and 15 min ST!
What's and ST?

Sounds like you are doing great with diet, exercise, and weight loss!

Der! I kept trying to think of what the abbreviation was, but it just wouldn't come to me. LOL

Jeez, I didn't know my name was being mentioned in here so much or I would've stopped by sooner. :D Thanks for feeding my massive ego.

I thought you were a veggie, b/c I never noticed you eating any meat.

If you weighed 120 on empty, you are 120. Margaret and I always weigh on empty, no shame in that. ;)

It sounds like you are studying to be a doctor. Congrats on that. I know it is a lot of long hours and hard work, so you have my respect. :cheers2:

Being in Missouri while your bf is in Texas must be difficult. I have had some long distance relationships myself, so I know how that goes. :)

I think you're doing great--only 4lbs to go. :hurray::hurray:

OH, protein--you should eat at least 1g for each 1/2lb of your weight. So in your case, a min of 60g per day. If I were you, I'd try to shoot for 75-80g a day.

Thanks for visiting BB. Haha yeah I've been throwing your name around quite a bit as you bring the competitive side of me out! I love it! Thanks for the info about the protein. I've been trying to follow the fiber and sodium from the challenges, but since we didn't have a protein challenge, I never looked into it. Probably not good on my end!

I wish it was only 4 lbs.....more like 7.4, but still close enough. It seems to take forever though to lose a pound, but I'm not complaining. I'm more excited about building a new and healthier lifestyle moreso than losing those last few pounds!

So this morning I weighed in at 122.5 (damn, up a pound....I hate how I have to weigh myself daily!)

Total Cal: 1345 according to FitDay
69g protein
25.79g fiber
3063mg sodium (whoops, I really need to watch that)

Worked out 30 min on the elliptical then 10 on the bike (wanted to finish watching american idol :))

Tomorrow, I have to work til 5, then I plan on staying at the med school and studying all evening so I've packed a couple healthy meals :). Hopefully I stick to my plan and don't come running home after work!

Don't be down about your weight being up today. It's par for the course. My weight fluctuates like crazy. I was 219 on Friday, and 224 on Sunday. I still consider my low 219 even though I was 222 today. Water retention is most likely the guilty culprit. Keep an eye on your sodium, and try to drink all your water and it'll go back down to 120. ;)

Well done for getting your protein requirements in. As Kimberly said - basically half your weight and that is the amount of grams of protein you want to be sure of getting as a minimum - so for you about 60g. I think that she had a typo so I thought that I would confirm the calculation for you.

I am sure that I was once told that there had been some research into the effectiveness of study time and longer sessions were not as productive as shorter sessions which accumulated to the same total duration. Maybe your study habits are improving.

Since I know how busy junior doctors are - maybe my approach of eating a precalculated repetitive diet where you only change the main meal would work well for you. If you look at my food plan you will see that really apart from my main meal there is a minimum preparation time for everything and it is very portable. Obviously you would build one with food that you like that fits into your vegetarian lifestyle. I needed extra protein so started with a snack of a packet of cooked meat - but on realising the sodium content - I replaced with a grilled pork loin steak. I grill 4 at a time and wrap in foil so that one is in the fridge when I want one. My point being that we hone things as we go and find ways of reducing the preparation time.

I can confirm that I am a firm believer in weighing on empty if at all possible. Water retention is something that we all suffer from at times.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Margaret,

Thanks for visiting (and once again congrats on a NEW LOW!!!!!)

I sure hope my studying habits are improving. I studied for about 5 hours total today, splitting it in bouts of about 1.5-2 hours each time, so I guess maybe youre right....maybe I am getting betteR :)

I have actually been paying attention to your diary a lot more lately and noticed that you do have a very repetitive diet. I think I could probably do that for a week or two at a time, and then I'd get sick of it. I've been thinking about maybe planning out a different "menu" for each week, so that I even change up the fruits/veggies I'm eating. I am at the hospital most of the time and when I'm not there, I'm out studying, so I would definitely benefit from pre-planned meals. I planned all my meals for today and brought them with me, and it worked out really well (for the most part). I'm more than likely going to start doing that b/c if I don't, I end up eating really bad tasting, bad for you cafeteria food!

Today I weighed in at 121.9 lbs....better than yesterday :) hoping it follows this trend!

I haven't exercised yet today as I just got home a little bit ago from studying. Still undecided if I will!

Today's food:
Total calories: 1308 cal
Sodium: 2808 mg (still higher than I'd like, but I'm getting there!!!!)
Fiber: 38.25g
Protein: 59.18g

Overall not bad. I will prob eat an apple or have a glass of milk to up my cals a bit. Unfortunately, I munched on some (4) now and laters today.....something about studying gets me in major sugar cravings! Oh well, I normally would've eaten three times that many w/o even thinking twice....and I'm still only at 1300 cals with that, so I guess I can't beat myself up about it!

Yes, Margaret was right, I said that incorrectly, however the min of 60g of protein was correct. It's 1g for every 2lbs.

Congrats on being down today. :hurray:

I think meal planning would be very beneficial to you as you are so busy.

Thanks bb, seeing the scale go down is ALWAYS FUN! :)

So I got unlazy and went down to my gym and did the bike for 30 min at a relatively slow pace (I was reading peds while I was on it!). Better than the nothing I had planned earlier :)

Well this morning I weighed in at 122.3. I wish I could get myself to start weighing in once a week, but I am too addicted to stepping on that scale first thing in the morning.

Eating has been okay today, not too great, but not horrible.

So far: 815 cals, 21.75g fiber, 34.7g protein

I guess I gotta up my protein a bit today!

Anyway, I haven't worked out yet as I was out studying most of the day. Will go soon though :).

And then I get to pack my bags to visit the boyfriend :). I don't expect to eat very well (I see him like once a month and usually one of the days I'll go out to eat where I'll eat whatever I want!). We do always workout when we're together, so that'll be good!

Anyway, off to the gym!
