Hi All!

I was kind of reluctant to start a diary, not sure why, but since I've gotten pretty addicted to this site, I thought, why not! So a little about me. I've been a member of this fantastic forum for only about two weeks now, and in that time I've managed to gain the motivation to take off that extra 10-15 pounds I've been carrying around. I know it doesn't seem like much, but these pounds seem to stubbornly stay on. I've "yo-yo-ed" my entire life, losing then gaining the same 15 pounds, but haven't been at a solid weight for my height since my "adult" life (I'm only 24). Anyway, so here I am. I've already joined a couple challenges and loving every minute. This time, I'm trying to make this a lifestyle, not something I do for a certain vacation or for a certain event which has how it's always been in the past. I want to continue this lifestyle even when I'm at my goal weight. I'm also finally learning to balance exercise in what I feel is my very busy life---I'm a medical student and am expected to be at the hospital long hours in the day and then come home and study so I can impress the following day....it's a neverending painful cycle! Anyway, I will stop babbling! I look forward to meeting more of you! :coolgleamA:

Alright, so I'm proud of myself for today. Usually I go to the gym for about 30-45 minutes, but today I did about 70 minutes of cardio! I think being in the biggest loser challenge is really motivating me to exercise more to get all those points! I also ate over 30g of fiber, and I realized that before this, I was probably eating about 15g of fiber a day! So I'm really excited about this challenge, b/c I feel like I'm really changing some of my habits, and it's making me aware of things (such as my low fiber intake!)

congrats for being able to do 70 minutes!! Im not a member of that challenge, but I know watching the show on tv has been a BIG motivational thing for me.

I am glad that you are enjoying the challenge and that it is encouraging you to apply some of the medical knowledge that you already have to your own diet and lifestyle.

It is not unheard of for medical people to ignore their own health - Niles on this forum is a doctor tackling his weight problem.

The fibre bonus has clearly caused you to evaluate the food that you eat. You may be interested to scan through the bonus tasks that Kimberly (Bikinibound) set in the challenge which was held just before Christmas. It included a similar evaluation of protein.

Good luck with your efforts to lose those stubborn pounds.

Best wishes
Margaret

Yeah I am pretty excited about this forum and that challenge. Watching the show gets me really motivated, but playing it....even more! I never realized it would motivate me so much! Thanks so much for stopping by my diary :)

Thank you Margaret! Yeah, it's funny you say to stop by bb's other challenge before christmas....I already did! I'm hoping she also has more challenges like that for us this time around! I even started increasing my water intake, and make sure I'm getting the full 8 glasses a day at least......before I was probably lucky if I even got in half that amount! IT seems like you're always pretty on track with what you're eating and how much you're exercising! I can't wait to become so good with my food/exercise without having to think so hard about it. Right now it's not so second nature to me! I think I'm getting there though....one small step at a time!

hey, thanks for stoppin by my dairy!! That is alot if you ahve lost 10-15lbs in that 2 weeks! CONGRATS on that!! The speical k diet is going pretty good! I dont know how much i have lost yet....i want to do for 2 weeks (i started sunday) so i can weight-in next friday, but this saturday is my daughters 1st b-day and u know i'm going to have some cake..lol...(but limit myself!!) But i will keep u updated on how much i lose when i weigh! Hope u have a good week!!

Oh no I haven't lost that much weight in two weeks! I lost 2.5 pounds in one and I was damn proud of that as I have never lost that much before in a week! That is so exciting that your daughter is turning one---you definitely deserve to have a little piece of cake then! Look fwd to hearing about how your weigh-in goes after the special k diet!

So so tired today after a 14 hour shift at the hospital and then two hours of studying, but I managed to squeeze in 30 minutes of the elliptical. I know I said I wanted to do more, but I'm glad I even went! My diet was really good today too--I managed to eat over 30g of fiber!

Yes - Kimberly does run some good challenges. She knows that I am just waiting for her to make me count my calories. I suspect that the fibre bonus was to please me and lull me into a sense of security because she knows that I always have my weetabix and raisins. I anticipate any day her going in for the kill with calorie counting. I suppose that it is only fair because some new people will have not evaluated what they have and could be eating at a bad level on a daily basis. I hate calorie counting because it is a danger area since it opens up the possibility that I will deem a day a dietary failure which has been known to cause me to binge in the past and abandon projects. Also - counting calories is false in that I do not see me counting calories for the rest of my life. I can see me trying to adhere to a sensible balanced diet which is what I try to do.

Well done for doing some exercise and eating your fibre.

So much in life is habit - and it is as easy to follow a good habit as a bad habit once it is up and running in your day-to-day life.

Ok so earlier I decided I didn't want to keep up with my diary (I must be really lazy), but now that the challenge is over I feel like I need a place to write down everything I do well (and not so well!) So hopefully I'll keep up with writing in this thing daily and that way I'll force myself to admit to my mistakes and pat myself on the back for my accomplishments :). I'm really getting down to where I want to be with my weight; however, after BB's challenge, I'm starting to realize that for me this is more of a lifestyle change than anything....even after I get to my goal weight, I want to eat well, drink lots of water, and keep exercising!

And unfortunately today was NOT so well!

I was eating really healthy up until dinner, when I went to my local qdoba and grabbed a vegetarian burrito.....those things are 1100 calories and have very high fat content! Luckily, I didn't add the guacamole, went easy on the cheese, and didn't eat the whole thing, but I haven't eaten that bad in weeks!!!!!

Oh well, tomorrow is a new day!

On a BRIGHT note, today I fit into a pair of jeans that I absolutely loved that I have not fit into in about a year! So I'm very excited!!!!!!!!!

Hey.

Damn that Qdoba... The hottest salsa/sauce they have is so good on the burritos/tacos. It makes you sweat - instantly. (what a workout!?)

Congrats on fitting into that pair of jeans! Yay

Hey Keepitoff,

Glad to see you posting in your journal. Don't worry about today. I think you were just letting a little loose after the challenge. Just get right back to business tomorrow and no damage done. You did really great in the challange.

By the way, I ended up ordering all four DVD's, BL 1, 2, Cardio Max and Powersculpt. They should be here in less than 5 days.

Isn't is great when we can fit into something we haven't worn in awhile.

Keep up the great work.

V.

Welcome back to your diary. They are useful for tracking back to see when the diet subtly changed. I also get tons of encouragement from my diary.

They can be as time consuming as you want really. I update mine several times a day - but know people that maybe pop in once a week.

For me too it is definitely a lifestyle thing - and something that I will have to continue working on long after I get to goal. Maintenace will be a project in itself for me.

We all have less good days - dont let yours get you off track. It will not harm your project.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Hey mike!
Thanks for visiting. I am def. very excited about the jeans! I agree about the hottest salsa, that's the one I always get. But hopefully I wont be going there for AT LEAST a month or two :). I can only resist so long!

I was definitely letting loose after the challenge....all the more reason I CANNOT wait until the next one. Those are so motivating for me I didn't even realize it until today! I love that I've made so many changes since them...I def. havent' perfected them but I'm trying to be more aware of my fiber intake, water, and I went back to doing strength training! I'm glad you ordered the DVDs. I'm curious to hear what you think of the cardio max and the second DVD as I have both of them but have not opened them yet. I considered getting the powersculpt one but I don't have free weights, and I'm not sure how light/heavy weights you need. I guess I'll wait for you to tell me :). Thanks for visiting my diary! It's great to have encouragement!

Thanks Margaret for visiting my diary....the encouragement/motivation is absolutely priceless! Reading your diary is so inspirational for me. I love seeing how far you've come especially in the past few weeks, it's so wonderful to see how your weight has changed, and how you beat your "plateau" by making some dietary changes! I definitely don't plan on letting yesterday getting me off track!

Saturday, February 24

No workout (day off!)

Breakfast:
Fiber One Bar

Lunch:
Subway Veggie Delite on wheat with added 1/2 morningstar veggie pattie
8 Baked Lay Chips

Dinner:
1.5 cups wheat pasta with emeril's roasted garlic red sauce (yum!)--would have liked to not eat pasta but it was pretty much what I had at home

Snacks:
16 wheat thins
1/2 Cup Slim Fast Chocolate Shake
1 clementine
1 apple

Not sure how many calories I ate today. I generally aim for 1400-1500 but I didn't bother to count today! I may have gone a bit over b/c of the pasta.

Tomorrow, I'm hoping to do at least 30 minutes on the elliptical and a little strength training with my triceps and chest. I will be busy this week as I have my big end of the rotation test for my pediatrics clerkship on Friday! And then, I'm off to Houston to visit my boyfriend (the Mexican food there always gets me!!!!!)

Just got up 45 min ago.....how I love the weekends and sleeping in! Weighed in at 120.6.....not complaining but I was on complete empty so probably wont stay that way!

Breakfast: woke up at 10 so by the time I was showered and ready, near lunch time, whoops!

Lunch: homemade "pizza": spinach flat out wrap (90 cal, 9g fiber, 9g protein!), 1/8 cup ragu pizza sauce, greenpeppers, broccoli, onions. about 1/8 cup 2% milk cheese. Throw it all in the oven and it's done :). Tastes GREAT, loaded with veggies (way more than there is cheese) and good for you!

Snack: 1/2 c skim milk blended with half banana and a couple strawberries yummy :)

Now off to study for my test Friday!

Well studying didn't go so well. I don't know what's wrong with me but I can only seem to do about 1.5 hours at a time, and even that's pushing it! I used to be able to study for like 5 hours without getting up (except to pee, of course!)

Anyway, off to go do some exercise since I took yesterday off! Hopefully I'll hit the books again afterwards.....I'm supposed to have a "study date" w/ a friend, so hopefully that will be motivating, and I wont end up doing more talking than studying!

Have a great day everyone!
