WEEK 2½ - My Summer Challenge 2007 May 28th-August 15th

WEEK 2½
Measurements for June 14th 2007
Waist 30.7 -> 30.1 -> 29.9
Hips 39.4 -> 39.4 -> 39
Breast 39 -> 38.8 = 38.8
Thigh 21.3 = 21.3 -> 21.1
Calf 14.6 = 14.6 -> 14.4
Bicep 10.6 = 10.6 -> 10.4
Arm just below shoulder 12.6 -> 12.4 -> 12.2
Weight 150 lbs -> 147.8 lbs -> 147.4 lbs
Fat 28,8% -> 27,8% -> 27,6%
Water 51,9% -> 52,7% = 52,7%
Muscle 33,6% -> 33,7% -> 33,8%

Goal
21st June
145 lbs or waist under 30"
15th August
140 lbs or fat under 26%

The week (and a half) was interesting.
I trained as follows:
Mon running
Tue walking, small muscle strength session at home
Wed muscle class, HI cardio
Thu weights, light cardio
Fri rest
Sat rest (sister visiting)
Sun rest
Mon weights, light cardio
Tue SS cardio
Wed muscle class, light cardio, walking
On week 2 I ate an average of 2003 cals a day and used an average of 645 cals a day for exercise (counting only Mon-Thu, for which I have the stats).
On week 2½ (week 3 Mon-Wed) I ate an average of 1840 cals a day and used an average of 920 cals a day for exercise.
Apart from Fri-Sun last week when my sis was here and I neither exercise nor counted, but did well on the eating side since my sister also wanted to eat light, this has been a really great time.
I got my period, so my weight went up 4 pounds from Sun to Mon. Now the scales are back to "normal" weight, but I think I'm still retaining some water. It's been only four days, and the water weight usually stays for about 7-10 days. Also my fingers, cheeks and a couple of other places feel and look bloated. The cals and the amount of exercise would allow a bit more loss than .4 pounds. :rolleyes:
I'm still hopeful that I could reach my goal of 145 pounds by June 21st. Let's say one pound water and 1.4 pounds of weight is doable in a week. :) If I don't get there by next Thursday, I'll get there a bit later. I have, however, already reached the other goal I had for June 21st. My waist is now under 30 inches (29.9 :D) Altogether from the start of my summer challenge I've lost 2.4 inches of me, of which .8 from my waist. The numbers don't sound very big, but I'm quite happy to have accomplished that in 2½ weeks. :D If I could keep going at 1in/week, I'd be smallish by the end of summer. :rotflmao:
Thanks for you input, people! It's motivating to be watched!!!
:D

did someone set you on fire? :D:D

Well, Lena, my dear, I think you did! :flame:
Now that I'm on holiday, I just substitute working with working out... And knowing I report to you everyday just keeps me focused. I know I can't go on like this forever, but I'm determined to spend the time I can doing the best I can. When I'm back at work I need to learn how to maintain the then current weight without THIS amount of time and energy.. I kinda think that'll be the hard part. :eek:
Now I'm just enjoying the freedom of taking care of myself almost full-time. :D

Congrats on 29.9 and gettin ahead of time! :jump:
Soon u'll be able to put pretty belts round yr tiny waist!

Oh yea... TOM sucks. Bloated feeling and seeing panda like hands isn't funny at all. I go up by 8 pounds everytime, guess cos sodium intake went up too. I crave savoury food like crazy during that period.

Hi Julie, I think you'll reach your goal, too! Have a great day. Isn't it nice when those who visit you share your desire to eat healthy?

I'm totally jealous o f your measurements :) you're quite the shapely thing you are :) hot stuff you are heating up all of scandavia :D

Stats for Thursday
Exercise about 550 cals
Cardio light 20 min
Weights 65 min
Walking 10 min
Eaten
cals 1668
prot 149
carb 137
fat 57
fibre 34
My avocado for the day ended up being just half of one, thus the relatively low fat&cals, when I aimed higher. Not complaining, just note to self: find better avocados..
Had a good weights session with minimal cardio. Very happy with some weight added to assisted pull-ups and barbell upright row. Next time I'm going to up the weights on bicep curls. My poor arms and upper body are finally starting to play ball.. :)

It's nice to know that there are as misfortunate women all over the world. I've been saved from the bad foods this time by having visitors who have the motivation to eat healthy themselves. I can only guess what would've happened if they would've brought potato chips and chocolate with them... :rolleyes:

Hi Julie, I think you'll reach your goal, too! Have a great day. Isn't it nice when those who visit you share your desire to eat healthy?

Yes! I feel very good a) being able to serve them the food they want to eat and being able to enjoy it myself wholeheartedly. Preparing some delicious (fatty&sugary) treats and thinking "I can only eat a teaspoon of that" all the time would have been torture. And b) I don't have any bad leftovers to get rid of either. I have been taught not to throw good food away and so usually I just freeze whatever I can and eat the rest in teeny-tiny portions.. No such misery with my sister.
I found myself fretting (in my mind) over the whole milk based, very sugary yoghurt my friend bought yesterday. She ate the rest of the non-fat, no sugar kind there was this morning.. I ended up eating half yoghurt half fat-free natural fromage frais this morning, since I just didn't want to eat half of my daily calories in my morning yoghurt. I think I'll survive (and not tell her about it either). She didn't do it in purpose and is not here every week to do it anyway..

Damn girl you are gettin there and looking great :)D:) Keep up the great work!!!

Thanks, Cerella! I will certainly try to. :D

Ooooh, thanks! :angel:
Noooot so sure about the heat... We have 10 C this morning. Some sun visible, but very high winds. They had 4 inches of snow in Sweden and Norway yesterday, so I guess that makes us the lucky ones with only some rain and thunder.. :eek: The traditional weather for the midsummer celebrations seems to have come a week early this year. ;)

4 inches of snow?? Wait, aren't Norway and Sweden in the northern hemisphere? :) [LOL, I have to put a smiley after that, because here in the U.S., there's no guarantee people actually know.]

Hope you have a warmer weekend!

it's supposed to be 90 today - a mid day snow shower would be very cool - umm cold - yeah :D

how close are you to the north pole? and have you ever seen santa claus?

You are beign so dedicated to your work outs and you joined play - so cool - I think maybe next year I will be ready for that !!! So cool :):):) WHne i am lazy and need motivation I just have to drop by here !!!

21 C in the weather forecast. :) And yes, firmly in the northern hemisphere. ;)

I have no exact answer to that. I tried to google for a while, but nothing exact came up. All I can say is
Helsinki: Helsinki - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
North pole: North Pole - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Santa, yeah, I'm a good girl :angel:, so Santa visits my home every Christmas. :D

You're welcome anytime. I'm honored to be motivating!!! :)

Hi Juliette you whole lotta woman you! Looks like you're kicking butt on your healthy eating and exercise as per usual. Way to go! Romeo is going to be soooo lucky to meet you, doll. Just make sure he's rich, but not related to the mob and you'll be fine.

The mind boggles on how you achieve such seemingly insane goals. All I can say is Respect! Keep it up - you truly serve as an inspiration to me.

Cardio (warmup, cooldown) 20 min

I had my 5th consecutive day at the gym. Not really sensible, as I found out. But I'm a true representative of my people. We just don't believe until we try. At the moment and on my current level of exercise four days in a row is my limit. I just didn't have enough energy left to do what I intended well. No biggie, now I know and will have my rest day earlier next time.
I went out with my best friend in the evening. We had some bubbly and some wonderful Rioja red wine with steak etc. Thus the high calories... ;) I'm sure both the alcohol and the sodium in what I ate will show in the scales for this weekend, but I'm hoping it goes down before Monday.
Funny thing is, I woke up hungry as a wolf this morning. Eating makes you hungry??? No bad eating planned for today though. My friend who was staying in my apartment left this morning, so I have my home and my fridge to myself again.
The beautiful weather has reappeared. 21 C forecast for today and the sun is shining! :D My rest day is going to be perfect!

I don't know about you, but it can work that way for me. Extra calories on steak will fill me up, but extra calories on sweet things (including alcohol), can leave me wanting more of the same! :)

Oh lovely! Enjoy that sunshine!! :)

Thanks, all of you lovely ladies! :)
Felici, I think your right there. If I keep eating only healthy stuff, I never feel like this. But I'd say yesterday evening was worth it anyway. ;)

I had a bit of a struggle for staying rid of exercising today and a similar struggle to eat only what I had planned. Won both struggles! :angel: 1-0 :mad:
:D :D

Oh my I broke a sweat just reading your gym activites!!Ok gotta a question for ya since you are an expeirenced gymer? When you 1st started what was your routine like what was the 1st piece of equipment you used?I am going to TRY to make myself go to the YMCA since I paid for a month but I really don't want a trainer and they act like no one can just show me what to do unless I sighn up for the 12 week orientation and with my hectic days I can't commit to that so on the days I can't get a walk in I want to hit the YMCA.Ok any advice would be great!Have a nice day Tammy

Hey, Tammy!
Don't feel shy about going to the gym. The place is there FOR YOU and there are some ways of learning how to use the different equipment even if there's nobody to show you how. Try to find some videos online to see what to do.. (Or ask Steve, the current links in his "Workout" thread aren't working for some reason.) I'd try leg press (or squats) and the back and the abs benches, then some rows and curls for the upper body and arms.. But I'm no expert, I just do what I've been taught so far by my trainers. (Also, since English is not really my language, I may not use the correct terms for the exercises..)
I would however encourage you to ask again for somebody to just show you how to operate the equipment. It's also for the benefit of the gym, since they actually don't want anybody to hurt themselves on their premises. Something that's very difficult to explain here in the internet is very easy to show and see that you start doing it right. Is the orientation included in the cost of the gym card or would you have to pay extra for it. If it's "free", if I were you, I'd take it and try to use as much of it as I could
You might think that there's only very experienced people exercising at the YMCA, but in reality, they are mostly like you. Or at least have been before they started going there. So it takes some courage, but go there once and the next time will be easier and the next one even easier than that. You have to start somewhere, because no one is born with experience. ;)
Good luck! :)
Julie
