Journey, Not A Destination

Day one will contain somewhere around 5 grams of carbs per pound. At least that's what's called for. I'm not sure I'll be able to swing that or not... that's 3600 calories coming just from carbs alone. I'll shoot for it though.

mmmmm big ole plate of lasagna or baked ziti... with garlic bread :)

cool Steve. You got this on lock down man...but damn i would die without at least a bit of carbs. I usually don't count fibrous veggies toward my overall carb count when i eat. Im guessing your lifting sessions are horribly tiring, especially with no glycogen what so ever. I envy you man.

Hey Steve.. :)

Question:

I have been reading a lot of articles lately re: women and if they should first get their weight down before trying to do exercises that focus on all parts of their abs.

What is your view on this?

I'm confused on if I should skip the ab work-outs for now until I start shrinking in my stomach/mid-section areas.

You envy feeling hungry and drained, lol?

The workouts are adjusted for the state I'm in. It's intense (intensity = weight on the bar) but breif (volume = sets x reps, is kept in check).

Plus, there are only 2 workouts per week, both full body. I'm in and out within 35 minutes or so.

I do have a Gatorade that I sip before and during these workouts to provide some glucose... but it's the G2 Gatorade, which is low calories and carbohydrate. And it's only 2 per week.

That sounds like nonsense to me.

Firstly, why would you have to lose the fat first before training any muscle?

Secondly, I'd be focusing on training the entire body.... not just the abs.

Steve, can I jump on the ab questions bang wagon?

I've been going to my kickboxing classes about 4x a week and they're great. We do more than punch the bag... lots of drills that include running, squatting, push-ups, ab/core exercises, lunges, and then of course lots of punching and kicking. I've been watching what I eat to an extent... it could be better I realize. I'm not being strict but I'm not being insane either. But what I don't understand is why I'm seeing a difference everywhere except my stomach. It won't budge. It's just as fat and tubby. The fat isn't even getting squishy... it's still on the hard side. When I've worked out/tried to lose weight before I never had problems reducing the fat there. Every other place on my body has budged when I've taken measurements. Any thoughts? Am I going to have bird arms and legs, and big ole Midas tireman belly?

Some of the articles mentioned that for some women, they could bulk up their stomach while still trying to lose much needed fat.

So, that scared me bc lord knows I don't need any more freakin' bulk there. :biggrinjester:

My work-outs are full body work-outs but I have been skipping the exrta ab focus routines bc I didn't know if there was any proven facts re: my question.

Thanks Steve! :)

As shitty as it is, there's not much you can do here. Keep plugging away and the stored fat on your belly will eventually be tapped into. Not the answer you're looking for, I'm sure. But it's the truth.

What's your current weight if you don't mind me asking?

I'm interested in the reply you get. lol

That is also my fear!

*IF* and that's a big if, you packed on slabs of muscle under your fat, sure, it would bulk you up a bit. But, the thing is A) you're a female and not hormonally dispositioned to pack on slabs of muscle even when conditions are right and B) conditions aren't right since you're dieting and building new muscle is a very intensive process, energetically speaking. If you don't have the calories to support your current fat and muscle (dieting) you certainly don't have the capacity to add new, metabolically-expensive stuff (muscle).

Plus, when is the last time you saw anyone with enormous abs popping out of their stomach?

People's abs don't 'explode' like some people's biceps or whatnot.

My work-outs are full body work-outs but I have been skipping the exrta ab focus routines bc I didn't know if there was any proven facts re: my question.

Core work is important not for 'toning' your midsection.... but b/c the core is the foundation of our bodies. All movements are initiated or stabilized by the core. If this weren't the case, you'd fold like a wet noodle.

I'd leave it in there to strength and increase the endurance of the core muscles (front and back) without the expectation of it increasing your fat loss in those specific areas.

Definitely doing butt loads of sets and reps isn't necessary. It should just be part of the normal program.

More than anything I just wanted someone to tell me I'm not insane... because it's making me batty.

What's your current weight if you don't mind me asking?

The short answer is hovering around 191 pounds.

And thank you for your thoughts!

Nope, you're not alone. I mean yea, I think we're all a little batshit crazy at times.....

But we all also have problem areas on our bodies that don't seem to understand the concept of cooperation.

Remain consistent and things will fall into place.

The short answer is hovering around 191 pounds.

kthanks

Okie Dokie Steve..

Thanks so much bc that was confusing to me and then it scared me..lol

I will most likely never see a flat tummy bc the women in my family (mom's side) are cursed.

We were all sticks before giving birth and boy did it do a number on our stomachs/metab afterwards.

Once when I reached goal, I was able to get really trim and wear my shirts tucked in without any bulge although I still had a pookie tummy under the clothes.

The women on my dad's side of the family are lucky as hell bc they all just bounced right back in place/shape.

GRRRRR..

lol

Howdy Steve!!! Very good words to remember"Remain consistent and things will fall into place.":cheers2: Hope your weekend is a good one ,Tammy

Post pregnancy can really make it that much more of a challenge. But pretty much anything is achievable within the confines of our genetics. Certainly any of us (aside those with certain diseases) can get lean. It's just much easier for some than others.
