Journey, Not A Destination

I mean, we can throw quotes around all day long. Most have come from amazingly advanced, great minds. But if we just read them, and move on with life without relating them to ourselve's.... they don't do us a whole lot of good.

And feeling moved or motivated for a split second after reading a quote does very little in the grand scheme of things.

It's about applying those powerful thoughts from those that have been successful before us.

We ride on the shoulders....

right?

Howdy Steve,Wanted to drop by and say and nice new thread you started
about everyones program's they are using to lose weight and get fit!I have learned a few things reading them.Tammy:doh:

Wow, you look great yourself Steve - and I don't know if those pictures are "meant" to show progress, but from right to left, and to your avatar, it does seem like you are getting towards your goal - right? Good for you! :)
I live in a country where most people tend to be quite thin, so beyond those who pester me to lose weight, I do have women approach me telling me how they'd wish they could just put on some weight! In a sense, I think they'd want more curves without fat...
The problem is I've noticed that when I purchase workout gear and tools, people have this issue that muscled female equals not female female anymore - most go: "no stay away from the weights, the dumbbells etc.!" It's kind of sad how people have a limited notion of what strength training does to a body.
Also, I find it irritating how people think that because you pay attention to how you look they just presume you have nothing else to offer - my personal experience. Very irritating, but not life hindering...! To me I want to look how I am getting to feel more and more - confident, strong, self reliant...
But enough whining... Great work and will hop back here some more. I'm finding a lot of your advice useful!

Hey, thanks for stopping in!! :)

Yea, I am making progress. I am leaner now then any of those pics. I will take updated pictures soon. I still have a month left of dieting, but there are a lot of circumstances thrown in that time period that will potentially throw me off track for a bit.

That said, it should be interesting to see where I end up at the end of June.

Where do you live?

I like curves. If I had to build my woman, she would certainly be curvaceous. :)

I don't find musclebound women or non-shapely women overly attractive, not that I'm shallow. It's just one particular preference of mine.

I used to train a lot of women. It was amazing how little they understood the body. Society has set up at atmosphere where people think it's easy to get lean and muscular. Even for women!! And this couldn't be further from the truth.

It's ashamed too, b/c since this notion exists, many women stay out of the weight room. Or, if they pick up weights..... they are equivalent to 3 lbs.

When all along, I think weight lifting is the most important form of exercise. Tides will turn, but it takes a lot of time and education.

Also, I find it irritating how people think that because you pay attention to how you look they just presume you have nothing else to offer - my personal experience. Very irritating, but not life hindering...!

I can certainly relate to this. Caring about your health and physique seems to be equivalent to being shallow nowadays.

Some of the coolest people in the world, that I've met, live this lifestyle day in and day out. It's their jobs. It's their lives. It's everything. Again, it just a form of ignorance.

To me I want to look how I am getting to feel more and more - confident, strong, self reliant...

That's great. I find too many people focusing on the scale. Whatever it takes to get to a certain weight, they'll do. They relate ultimate happiness to a certain weight.

It's not about that. It's about building a new you.... emotionally and physically. It's about how you feel. How you look. Improved performance and ability. The list goes on. The number..... that's such a small variable in the grand scheme of things that it's practically irrelevant.

I hope nothing but success for ya.... if you ever need anything, you know where to find me.

I read that elsewhere! The wedding, eh? :) Congratulations! And I think you're determined enough that even if it does keep you off track, you'll catch up easily afterwards!
Where do you live?
Madagascar (South East coast of Africa). It is a combination of African (Black) and Asian (Polynesian/Indonesian) cultures and genes. I myself am part European, part African (Madagascar & Rwanda, and the Rwandese women in my family have $thick thighs & hips, regardless how thin they are, so I doubt mine will ever get quite small, so I'm aiming for firm)!

I perfectly understand. I myself like my men mostly anything but thin, but I can't say that meeting an incredibly fun and silly thin man will not change my mind about that! lol

I completely agree with this! I try to explain what I know to people, and to recommend whatever source of reliable information I can think of, but people have very... "stuck" ideas about weights and muscles.

Exactly! My mom use to be constantly on my back about this: because I put a focus on how I appeared, she took it as it being the only focus of my life. I told her it was one thing amongst other I felt the need to improve, and that to me the outside changes reflected/reflect my inner change... I think she's getting it now though! ;)

I absolutely agree in terms of me! I have a scale that I use when I haven't worked out in a long time, and try to only get on it occasionally. I can't say I have a specific weight loss objective, because I'm willing to admit that the figure (shape) I want might not be reflected by a set numerical figure. And knowing that the scales might not reflect the fat (as opposed to weight) loss have made me more cautious of pinpointing a weight. If I'm firm and a size 10/8, breathe correctly when going up stairs, and am in a basically healthy condition, I'm happy!
I hope nothing but success for ya.... if you ever need anything, you know where to find me.
Thank you and I wish you the same! :D Your advice always seems quite careful and thorough, while not being dogmatic so I will be sure to hit you up if I have questions! Thank you for being so supportive to us all!

Quote of the Day

The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.

There is no use whatever trying to help people who do not help themselves. You cannot push anyone up a ladder unless he be willing to climb himself.

When a man does not know what harbor he is making for, no wind is the right wind.

Random thought of the day:

I don't have one. Yesterday's was very long and triggered enough convo for 2 days I think. :p

Good morning Steve! I finally am getting caught up on diaries (super busy week at work).

I liked the pics you posted. Your fiancee is beautiful! :) It looked like you were having a good time at that wedding! ;) and YOURS will be here in no time! :)

Have a wonderful day!

Afternoon, Steve. What a lovely day over here! Nice quotes, and the previous conversation about weights reminded me I need to squeeze in another day. I used to do Mondays and Thursday mornings, but now Thursday mornings are reserved for Cambodian martial arts. Hmmmm. What an exercise slut I am! Eh, I like variety.

Have a great day!

your poor journal is lonely -it's had no visitors today...

::sneaks in and installs secret hidden cameras::

one week to go before the blow out bash down the shore :)

now when I lived in north jersey it was down the shore because we headed to points south - in Pennsylvania is it up the shore? that sounds kinda dirty :)
oh who am i kidding, I could make anything dirty :D

Exercise slut.

That's something I haven't heard before, lol. :p

As long as you are hitting the major muscles twice per week, I'm fine with it. And if you are doing enough cardio/fitness stuff, weights once per week is fine for lower body.
