Journey, Not A Destination

Personal Question

You don't have to answer, but I'm still curious about your GF:

Do you get her to weight train with you, ever?
Does she like to work out with you?
How tall is she?
:D

Well, IMO it is easy to find high quality protein sources that are low in saturated fat. Then again, I am not a vegetarian though. :)

Well, when I look at what I have eaten over the last few days, the only way I could see to work it would be to live on Kellogg's All Bran with soya milk, and wholewheat pasta with broccoli. Maybe I'm not very imaginative when it comes to food!! Until I started trying to lose weight, most of the protein in my diet came from hard cheeses, which seem high in saturated fat. Also, regardless of whether the fat is saturated or not, if I start matching my protein and fat intake gram for gram, I will very quickly go over my calorie "allowance" for the day.

If you choose the vegetarian lifestyle, it is on you to find ways to get the required protein in. It makes life a lot more difficult, IMO. Do you eat eggs or fish?

For me, it isn't so much a lifestyle as an ethical choice. I actually liked the taste of meat, and I think I still would, although I have no plans to go back to eating it. I stopped eating fish when I became vegetarian, and I've never eaten eggs because the smell of them cooking .... well, I stop feeling hungry, let's put it that way.

Obviously, your protein intake is way down.... you should be getting about 1 gram per pound of total body weight in your case.

Hmm ... so over 150gm. I've seen some people mention protein shakes. Would that be an option for me if I can't increase the protein in my diet any other way?

She does not weight train, go figure.

I don't force her to do anything that she doesn't want to do. She is a swim coach, and active with that, so she is in shape. She mentioned a few weeks ago that she might want to give strength training a try. I told her she knows she has a coach if she wants one. :)

She is 5'7.

Protein shakes are definitely an option. I use them myself, and I can't imagine being a vegetarian and not using them.

Maybe you could try egg beaters, the egg whites that come in a carton. I eat them, and I don't think they smell that bad.

Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein! Try to stick with low/no fat.

Nuts of course are a good source of protein. However they are high in cals too. That said, they should most certainly be included as they are a great source of good fats.

Cheese is good, just don't over-do it as it is high in saturated fat.

You are going to have to get a lot of soy in too, I think things like veggie burgers and stuff like that is high in soy.... even though soy is not the greatest of proteins when it comes to muscle nutrition.

I am thinking.....

I am sure I can dig some more stuff up from some of my resources. If you don't hear more from me in a day or two, yell at me in here to remind me.

I am having a brain fart.

hmmm - are brain farts produced by fish oil pills like they give me the occassional flipper burps? and more importantly - or less importantly - do they smell? but the critical question - what happens when you light a brain fart? :)

the questions I ponder before coffee really frighten some people..

have a grand ole thursday
