Journey, Not A Destination

Morning, Steve. I came up with a nice new name for my journal. It's based on the name you chose for yours. I figured out, at the rate I'm losing weight, I'll be almost 69 years old by the time I lose it all. So I should rename my journal,
"A Journey, Because I Forgot What the Destination Was" :p

Hahahaha. :D

Very clever!

Eating 60-90 minutes before is good actually, and you should eat after your workout too.

Some like to structure carbs in their diet so that they are fall only on workout days mainly, or they eat carbs every single day, but match them to be eaten around your workout.

That said, I wouldn't worry about it at this point. Just focus on eating a balanced diet and consistently being in a deficit. Once you get closer to your goal weight, you can worry about nutrient timing.

thank you for the advice steve :) you deserve a hug :D

Steve always deserves a big hug.

Steve, I just wanted to quote something you posted in RJ's diary yesterday. I thought I would post it here so I don't fill up someone else's diary with my questions. I hope that's OK. The part that's especially relevant, I've put in bold.

I like to have 1 - 1.5 gm of protein for each pound that I weigh. Keep to the low end when bulking, keep to the high end while dieting. Right now that would be 195 grams, since I weigh 195 and am currently bulking. There are 4 calories in each gram of protein, which equals out to be 975 calories (using 1.25 grams/lb). If you are not weight training, these requirements would be lower. If you are dieting with a caloric deficit, protein requirements actually increase.

I've also heard you say 1 - 1.5gm of protein per pound of lean mass, and I wonder how this would apply to me. I am currently at 156lb, and I guess 30lb or so of that is fat, since that's what I'm trying to lose. How many grams of protein should I have while in a deficit?

Since I've been monitoring my diet, I've noticed that I'm only getting around 50 - 60gm of protein a day, which looks very low. I'm guessing this is partly because I'm vegetarian and I've cut one of the main souces of protein out of my diet, but also because, as a vegetarian who is thinking about the nutrients in my diet, it's very hard to find foods containing high levels of protein that don't also contain high levels of fat (usually saturated). Should I be looking at ways to supplement the protein in my diet?

Sorry to bring the whole nutrition thing back up again, but I can't find the answers to this elsewhere, and I don't want to be missing something critical from my diet.

Steve...during work out sessions, do all the exercises need to be done together in a grouping or can I separate some out and do them when I get a chance during the day?

ie today includes crunches - I don't want to do them in the rain on a wet bench, but I could do them here at home on the floor.

Is that alright?

Well, IMO it is easy to find high quality protein sources that are low in saturated fat. Then again, I am not a vegetarian though. :)

If you choose the vegetarian lifestyle, it is on you to find ways to get the required protein in. It makes life a lot more difficult, IMO. Do you eat eggs or fish?

Obviously, your protein intake is way down.... you should be getting about 1 gram per pound of total body weight in your case.

With crunches, sure... I don't see anything significantly wrong with that. However, all of the other exerises should be done together.
